Yelp
Date night with the hubby brought us to our first farm-to-table restaurant, and Farmhouse at Descanso Gardens did not disappoint. After a quick Google search and checking out the solid Yelp reviews, we made reservations. When we arrived, we were seated immediately.
We started with the grilled Asian beef short ribs. For our entree, my husband ordered the Asian chicken salad and I chose the pizza. Wow--everything tasted incredibly fresh and full of flavor. The short ribs came with butter lettuce, green papaya salad, pickled Fresno chiles, and a sweet-and-spicy dipping sauce--basically lettuce wraps, and they were delicious.
The biggest surprise for me was the pizza. It featured Pink Lady apples, prosciutto, pesto, arugula, and a balsamic drizzle, and it was one of the best pizzas I've had. All the ingredients paired perfectly. Although it's listed under "Starters," it's definitely large enough to be an entrée, which is exactly how I enjoyed it.
For dessert, I ordered the warm cornbread with seasonal grapes, plumsicles, caramel corn, and buttermilk ice cream. Just reading the description, I thought it might be a bit much, but it was surprisingly very good.
We also ordered a couple of cocktails: Autumn's Up (mezcal, lemon, Montenegro, and Aperol) and Cool Pom & Collected (vodka, pomegranate, lime, and mint). Both were refreshing, not too sweet, and well balanced.
Service was good, though a bit slow at times. Overall, it was a great dining experience, and we'd definitely return.
