I think I need to stop talking to people about restaurants before I visit them. I've had family members rave about Farmhouse Restaurant, so I went in with high expectations. And it's a restaurant on a farm, so I'm thinking farm-to-table goodness. And the restaurant is beautiful and gently lit, so I'm also thinking it's a place with good taste. My experience was fine, but not as good as I had built it up in my head!
I got the French onion soup, and it was a little too salty for my taste. The cheese was more congealed than melty, and I really had to concentrate on chewing it and swallowing, because it felt like bubble gum in my mouth. I also got a Caesar salad, which was good -- probably the best part of the meal. I do love a good Caesar salad.
We also got a baked potato with everything and a wedge salad, but the wedge salad never came out, and we didn't see our server for a while, so we just gave up on it. Fortunately, it wasn't on the check.
My children got burgers and fries and grilled cheese and fries, and they loved them. I tasted some of their fries, and they were indeed good.
Everything was fine but nothing stood out. I guess I was expecting more from a restaurant on a farm, so maybe it's my fault for having disproportionate expectations. That said, Farmhouse Restaurant is probably the best sit-down restaurant in the area, so if you're looking for a place to eat in Fair Oaks, you should visit.
