Highlights

Nestled opposite the Nirox Sculpture Park, Farmhouse 58 enchants with its stunning design and serene surroundings, but struggles to meet high expectations in service and dining.

Such a wonderful setting, completely unique. The design & attention to detail are extraordinary, a new take on SA design/aesthetic. Just let down by poor service and food offering. The staff are friendly but not well trained, slick or professional which does not match the expectations created by what you are charged. Same for the food offer - its actually just poor.

We had been offered a late arrival on Saturday because there were a lot of guests staying over due to a nearby event. I arrived at the unlit gate and waited 30 minutes for someone to open for me. Parked my car and had to wait for other guests to arrive to take the shuttle to the farmhouse. This was another long trek on a very bad road . On our arrival, our room was stifling - with one small window to open. We found a fan which we plugged in. At this pointed I wanted to go home. |There was nothing luxurious or spoiling about our stay- nothing. |I thought breakfast would be the redeeming part but sadly it wasn’t. It’s a pretty setting and the staff are charming. I ordered coffee - to be told they only had decaf because “ we ran out on Friday” . It was Sunday. |Sourdough bread that needed a hacksaw to get through, no avocado. Tea served in a coffee plunger? |I am sure it all started out as a very nice place with good intentions but certainly lacks management.

Way overpriced - the hot is good food but inconsistent, lovely ethos and well appointed, particularly the room (no hair drier nor shower cap - nice gowns but sans slippers). No television, particularly in the common area, had to watch on mobile phone, internet was excellent as was the wellness centre treatment. Staff attention was near perfect but in reception far from it. Regretfully, we are unnlikely to do a return visit.

It’s a harsh word, but it’s true. |We were meant to arrive at 5pm, but got held at work. So we they called to inform us that no shuttle will wait for us and we would be stranded. So we chose to drive up for ourselves. They said we can’t park there. All this while it’s pouring. Eventually we parked anyway and finally got to our room the soaking. ||We asked what time restaurant closes. They said 10pm and last order is 9pm. We arrive at the restaurant at 8:55pm and the restaurant was closed…workers had already left.|We asked what we should eat and they said (sarcastically) we should drive somewhere since we came with our own car. Any restaurant would be closed by the time we reach civilisation…||We are in the most expensive rooms, the cabin. But the rooms didn’t even have slippers or belt for the robe or even WiFi. There’s nowhere to put our clothes or luggage. And where there’s free space is actually outside. So we slept hungry and obviously couldn’t shower cause it was still raining outside where the shower and bath are. Not even covering over it. The receptionist made sure we knew it’s not her problem, even though she’s hosting us in her property. |Honestly we will never come back.

What a huge Disappointment! I had high expectations for Farmhouse 58, especially since I was planning this anniversary getaway as a surprise for my husband. Set in a beautiful heritage area opposite the Nirox Sculpture Park, the property boasts a stunning architectural design, a lovely spa, and a farm-to-table dining concept that promised a luxury wellness experience. I couldn't wait to experience it all, but sadly, what we encountered fell far short of what we had hoped for. Restaurant: Despite reading previous reviews, nothing prepared me for the culinary experience at the restaurant. The food was, by far, some of the worst I’ve ever had. This entire menu needs a complete overhaul, along with the addition of a qualified chef and properly trained kitchen staff. If you still plan to visit after reading this, I would suggest fasting — or secretly bringing your own food. Cabin: The cabin was an absolute visual delight—eye candy at its finest! The outdoor bath, which initially seemed uncomfortable, turned out to be a fantastic feature, and the bed was luxurious, with a great mattress and high-quality linen. However, considering the location and the premium price, I would have expected basic amenities like air conditioning. We had to sleep with an open door, which is a safety concern. In their effort to keep things minimalistic, they placed the coffee machine under the counter, forcing my husband to kneel just to make coffee. Not exactly the luxury experience we had envisioned. From 7 a.m. cars were driving past our cabin. Furthermore, at 8 a.m., the garden cleaner swept right in front of our door, taking away any semblance of privacy. Design: If you stay in one of the cheaper rooms, the main walkway passes right in front of your door. If stillness and seclusion are important to you, I would strongly recommend avoiding these rooms. Spa: My husband had a great experience at the spa, but I cannot say the same. I had a horrendous experience where the therapist left the door open during the massage. Guests were walking by and chatting, and I’m fairly certain they saw me lying there, nearly naked. To make matters worse, the room had no air conditioning and was incredibly hot. The noise from a tractor or construction vehicle nearby completely ruined the experience. Feedback: I called the manager three weeks ago after our stay. I mentioned that the staff seemed undertrained and lacked basic skills, her response was, "You must remember, this is a community project." While I appreciate the community-focused concept, when you’re paying five-star rates, you expect a five-star experience. I’m still waiting for any follow-up communication. Positives: The gardener we encountered on a walk was friendly, very professional and gave us some interesting information. The transfer was a delight and The Nirox Art Tour, is highly recommended. Also, "And Then There Was Fire" catered a meal that was everything we had hoped for—a true highlight of the trip. Final Thoughts: Farmhouse 58 has so much potential to become a truly special boutique experience, but as it stands, it fails to deliver on the luxury wellness promise. There’s a real lack of professionalism across several aspects of the service, from the kitchen to the spa and beyond. It’s a great concept, but the execution needs significant improvement.

What a unique gem situated in the cradle of humankind.||This beautiful, peaceful and serene retreat is complete bliss from the moment you arrive.||From the Wellness area, the farm, the restaurant, the unique bar area, the pool, the spa, the outdoor gym, makes this unique gem a must to experience.||The rooms are so comfortable and unique.||The service was fantastic and the cuisine was amazing.||Lots of activities to choose from. I personally enjoyed the walk to the Waterfall. Extremely tranquil and peaceful environment.||I highly recommend this unique gem and looking forward to a return visit.

I recently had a frustrating experience with Farmhouse58 that I feel compelled to share. On September 25, 2024, I was overcharged for a massage and, despite multiple follow-ups, I have yet to receive my refund of R2120 (21 days later at time of writing this review). I initially raised my concerns before making the payment, and the receptionist assured me that the double charge would be corrected. However, not only did I not receive my refund, but I also found myself having to repeat my situation over and over on WhatsApp without any resolution. This level of customer service is simply unacceptable. I hope my experience can serve as a caution to others considering their services. It’s disheartening to deal with such poor communication and lack of accountability. Double check your invoice on checkout. HUGELY DISSAPOINTED.

I am very disappointed in the service. We've booked as a team, and we received our food in drips and drags. Most people finished their meals and then only received theirs. We were not a big group, which does not justify the ppor service. Beautiful place, though, but service a disaster 😕
