"True to its name derived from the Arab word for market, this more grown-up, all-day global cafe in a historic D.C. townhouse keeps the exposed brick and family photos while shifting to an order-at-the-counter, third-space vibe with comfy leather couches that encourage lingering from morning to night. Opening with breakfast and expanding to an all-day menu, it leans into traditional Lebanese mornings—za’atar toast, pistachio buns, labneh with granola and apricots, and a platter of feta, manoushe (flatbread), Persian cucumber, and tomatoes on labneh—alongside a bacon, egg, and cheese and an everything-spiced croissant. A Lost Sock Roasters coffee program features drinks like a fig leaf latte and ginger–tamarind espresso tonics. Inspired by the salons of France, the space transitions into a lively wine and spritz bar with small plates such as an extravagant shrimp cocktail, Kirby Club’s signature chicken wings, and potato chips loaded with cherry peppers, prosciutto, anchovies, and Parmesan. The all-day bar spotlights natural wines and the Go There Wines label supporting small, independently owned producers from lesser-known regions, and a retail corner sells za’atar from Rockville’s Z&Z, Maydan’s cookbook and rib-eye rub, and tahini imported from the Middle East with plans to expand into a true world market and bottle shop.
