Fat Boss's Pub Abilene

It’s a cool, casual, laid back bar which provides entertainment, live music, and onsite food truck dinning. I’ve been here to eat with Essence Soul Food truck & catering company which serves delicious high quality SoulFood/New Orleans southern cuisine. They provide a stellar customer service experience and the food is always flavorful, fresh, & hot. I’ve also been at Fat Bosses to attend the open mic event hosted by the amazing soul band of Abilene, Basic Truth every 4th Sundays. The establishment serves a plethora of beverages to choose. Not just alcohol. It caters to a diverse audience. I’ve seen a variety of different people at the open mic event. I’m looking forward to going to more open mics hosted by Basic Truth and perhaps even other events at Fat Bosses. The servers are very attentive and polite coming to your table and ensuring that you are taken squared away. Love, Light, Peace, & Blessings

I e gone here a few times with friends and had a pretty decent time. The staff was always nice and the drinks are good. They have a really cool bouncer there too so BRING your ID!!! Or you won’t get in. And I think that’s a GREAT thing. They’ve got a decent junk box and it’s a good place to go sit at the bar and enjoy a nice time just relaxing and having a drink. I don’t find it super expensive drink wise either. I’d say if you’re downtown one night, go in and give it a try!

Great time at Fat Boss! We got there early and had the potato skins, they were perfectly done, absolutely top notch. The staff was really nice, every single one. I stopped in and spoke with the the night manager/all around good guy (Bobby Smith). Said hello to the fantastic cooks, my waitresses Hannah W. and Ipsy were just amazing! My brother and my friend said the bartender (Jerb Johnson) was a good mixologist and pleased with the fast service. Met one of the bouncers (Ron Hill), very polite and super nice gentleman. Every likes their job from what I see and the atmosphere was great. The evening got busy and hopping with a good DJ putting out some great vibes. Will most definetely go here again!

Great service all around. Everyone is very willing to serve and take care of you. We meet for Bible and Brew every first Wed of the month and they are gracious hosts. No one there has complained about the food, matter of fact we haven't had anything we didn't like. Great selection of brews and great food! What else could you ask for? As for the music? All I had to do was ask if they could turn it down. They have controls that take care of volume upstairs and downstairs if it's too loud.

Great lunch. The food was hot and very tasty. We had a little time to kill and never felt rushed. We will certainly be back.

This place was pretty cool to check out, I would say the food was good and the service was great. Unfortunately my BF really wanted a reuben sandwich as they had one posted on there website and they didn't have one so that was a little bit of a disappointment. Prices were good as well.

Drinks were awful. Asked for a jalapeño margarita and got a spicy bloody mary. Sent drink back asked for just a regular margarita and waitress come back with something with orange juice and salt around it. So disappointed!!!

We finally got off the Abilene beaten path and found Fat Boss’. Wish we would’ve done it sooner because this is one awesome burger/beer joint. Not much heat (spice) but that can be fixed going forward. I had a well prepared half pound patty melt with an ice cold Shiner Boch. Both hit the spot on a scorching Tuesday PM. Can’t wait to try the wings then fish and chips. Great service by Joshua, too.

Really unimpressed. Music and atmosphere was basic, but it was the bartenders who killed it for me. They seemed pissed off at every interaction. I'm not mad at an aloof bartender, but it was enough to make me feel unwelcome. Much better bars within walking distance.

Time to update the review. Haven't been here in about 3 years. That's a mistake. Place has been remodeled and it nice, in a sparse kind of way. Very minimal decorations on the walls, except lots of TV's! Your welcome sports heads! Waitress was quick and friendly. Special of the day was a Cuban burger. Huh? Let's try it. Brandon loved his Tres Tacos. John said the fish and chips were really good. The Cuban burger was Incredible!! Beef, pulled pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and their "special" sauce. It was delicious! The special sauce is really good! Fries were great too. We will definitely come back for more specials. If you can get downtown for lunch, do it!

Nice little bar downtown that I caught for lunch with my British friend - we had to eat at the only pub downtown. At least I think it's the only place called a pub. Their fish and chips were done to my liking and I'll ensure that's where I go to get my fix in Abilene. The service was great and definitely friendly staff.

Limited experience here - lunch and happy hour. Both times the place was kind of dead - lunch was tasty and the portions very generous. Very attentive waitstaff. Happy hour - we were probably ahead of the real activity. Decent beer selection.

Business is closed. Looks like a new pizza joint is taking its place.I hope it is better than Fat Boss's was

I love this friendly downtown spot in Abilene. The atmosphere is welcoming and the beer selection is top notch! The General Manager, Tessa, and staff, ensure each customer is well tended to and they promote a customer friendly environment. I highly recommend this pub to everyone!

Satirday-11:15 So, came here think it would be better than my other experiences with fat boss bars, but nah. Pretty much, same shit service, packed and hard to get through, smells like old beer, obnoxious crowd, and "reserved seating" on table not occupied. So yeah, pass on fat boss places in general.

Wanted to try out the food, because we had heard that it was good. Well when we got there, we ordered what we thought were cheese sticks, but they were big squares of cheese and the coating on them was WAY too over seasoned. Then I had ordered the chicken strips with fries and my chicken was so dry and the fries were hard as if they didn't cook long enough. But I gave it a 3 star because it's a pub and the food isn't a main factor. I drove so I didn't get an alcoholic drink. But my boyfriend tried 2 beers and they were good.

The general manager is no good. My husband worked for her and she has not paid him his last check. She let's her friends eat for free so they will give reviews. If you post on Facebook, if she don't like it she deletes the post....​

I was genuinely surprised when I entered the pub. It was very expansive and well furnished. It's much bigger inside that it looks like it would be. High quality TV screens and one large projector were playing ESPN, so I'm sure this is a great place to watch the game. It was also very clean, it looks at first like it might be a little dark for the afternoon, but once your seated the large windows bring in just enough light to set a good mood. You are in a bar, but it feels like a comfortable restaurant at the same time. The waitress was quick to take our orders and checked on us frequently throughout the meal. I ordered the fried pickles and the fat boss melt. The fried pickles were good perfectly! A real stand out. They were obviously very fresh and tasted perfect. This was a cut above the average fried pickle. Super hot and right out of the fryer! Prefect! The patty melt was also very solid. It had a nice quality beef and a rye bread. The secret to the success on this dish was the jalapeño grilled and placed on top. It had a really nice back end heat! A very enjoyable experience. Although I don't go to bars, this would be a great place to go if I did. Recommended!

Surprisingly great food! I know this is a bar, but I would recommend this for a casual lunch spot. The burgers and chicken fingers are very good. Service is fine and pricing is reasonable. The only negative is that it's a bar. I get this for takeout every few months. Highly recommended for a downtown casual lunch spot.

Really get rate local awesome really you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Has a great oh my God awesome. This spot is good for both lunch and dinner. Love the options on the menu. Can't wait to go back.

Truly a bad drink. Ordered an old fashioned and they put in 3x the normal amount of bitters and 2x the normal amount of simple syrup. Asked two different bartenders about it and they said "that's how we make them" and charged me $15 for a makers old fashioned. Please, if you're going to charge truly aggressive prices, make quality drinks and not absolute undrinkable sh*t.

Always excellent and stays open past 2PM! Today we had daily special, chicken penne pasta with a sterling sauce. It hit the spot and had fresh basil on top! YUM! They have a daily special that they typically post on their Facebook Page. When you go try the 1. Southwest Pulled Pork (it's spicy) 2. Cheese Burger with bacon. Plenty of seating and TVs. They can host a large group of people, but it is kind of loud. We prefer to come to eat on weekdays after the lunch crowd clears out. We have also been here on a Saturday night, it was packed and there was a DJ mixing club music.

Great place for an out of towner to grab some dinner and a beer at the bar. I had the fish taco and was pleasantly surprised when it came with pickled onions and the fish was perfectly cooked, all served in a corn tortilla! A great value, too, I think I got THREE tacos and an IPA for around $10. This is also in a great part of town, close to the art museums and train depot. :)

In town for a doctor's visit. Stopped here on the way out of town. It was around 1pm, and the place was empty, so we were a bit worried about our choice, but the burgers were delicious. Chargrilled, good bun. Really good. We ordered queso too; it was alright. I would go back for a burger.

They serve lunch now! And it's good! Had the chicken salad sandwich...twice. It comes on a Hawaiian roll and is served with freshly made chips. Get it.

Met with a group from work. Erika was amazing. Best service we have ever had here. We will come back just because of her. We had a table of around 15 and everything was flawless. Great drinks, food and she always checked on us. Never had to search for her. Erika was always available and we felt she was our personal server. Couldn't ask for a better evening. Thanks again Erika. (Hope I spelled your name right)

I went here on a Monday night to grab dinner with my friend. Walking in, it was super roomy and not too many people were there. I'm guessing it gets busy on game days/nights. We seated ourselves because the servers/waitresses were nowhere to be in sight (this was already a bad sign). I never got our waitress' name but she gave us our waters and menu pretty quick, which is good. Once we ordered our food, it was downhill from that. We got our food in a good amount of time. I got the Green Chili Burger. It doesn't say it anywhere on the menu, but most of the entrees come with a side of fries. The burger was huge and it was alright, a little dry but thanks to the chili, it made the burger taste pretty good. The fries were crunchy and just the right amount of salt. The only thing missing was ranch. I tried to get our waitress' attention but it didn't work. She would come back every 30 minutes to check how we were doing and when I really needed her, it was difficult. I finally got ahold of her after finishing more than half my meal and she said it would cost an additional 50 cents. (*insert eye roll*) I don't think I've ever had a burger place charge ranch. Other than that, my other issue was my water was never refilled. She never really took notice of us and that may be our fault because we were seated further down. We were done with our meal for awhile and just waiting around for her to come back but she never did. I guess her coming 2 times asking if we were doing okay was enough and when we said yes those two times, she literally didn't come back. After awhile, she came back and we asked for two to-go boxes. This should be quick right? I think it took about 20 minutes for her to get the boxes. What was she doing? She was standing in the middle of the restaurant talking to someone. My friend got up and went towards her to ask for the boxes again and she said "I'm getting them." What did she do? She was still talking to this person. When she came back with the boxes she said sorry and she had a business talk. (*how is this relevant at all to my dining experience?*) Needless to say this was the worst service I have ever experienced in my life. Will I come back here? Maybe, but I'm going to make sure that I seat closer to where the waitresses are so they can see me. This place definitely takes notice if you're a regular, so if you are one, good for you because that's the type of service I would like.

In town for the day and was Looking for a place to watch College basketball and eat lunch. A Facebook friend suggested Fat Boss Pub! Hello when I walked in the door TV's everywhere with the basketball games on! The lunch special was on the chalk board outside so I thought I would give it a try. Steak fingers cooked to perfection with gravy fries and a salad great price under $10.00 OMG the gravy was slap your Momma crazy good! The flavor was out of this world. My water glass was always full. (Cold beer would have been great) Drove back to Dallas with a full belly and a Smile! Put this place on your bucket list it is worthy.

I've been to this place several times since my first few visits and it's kinda wearing off on me. On the nights it's busy it's just too loud, especially with the music blaring, and the service is pretty lacking.

The chipotle hollandaise on eggs benedict with pulled pork and jalapeño hashbrowns was incredible. Add a mimosa and you have the best brunch item I have had in a while. Delicious !

We were passing through on our way home (odessa) from dallas and came across them on Yelp and I'm so glad we did! Food was amazing! We had the homemade cheese sticks and burgers. I loved both but the cheese sticks were my fave! Will defiantly stop again!

This bar is totally awesome. Best time to show up is 3 to t bc you get to find out how awesome your bartenders are. Btw my bartender was tiana and she was amazing. I will definitely be here more often.

The service here is pretty shitty. There's a select few of bartenders who are great, but the rest do not look like they enjoy their jobs and it kills the entire experience. The vibe at this place is cool. Coming from a big city like LA and Honolulu I guess I had higher expectations.

Stopped in at Fat Boss for lunch only to find out that they don't have food yet was told it would be a month or two. Really classy looking place that you would hope and expect for a downtown Bar. Looks like I'll be back to try them out. so for Now I'll rate them a 3 stars.

Walked in ready to spend about $100 on food and drinksand drop a Pokemon lure. Asked whether they could change one of the TVs to ABC and waited over 20 minutes with no answer. Finally another waitress, Brianna, came over and got it changed, very awesome.

My husband and I were in Abilene last week and came into Fat Boss's Pub for a late lunch and a beer. The place is huge and well maintained. Even the bathrooms are nice! The menu is varied and creative. The prices are great for food and beer in Abilene! I had the club sandwich - served on a buttered bun and is about 4 inches high! My husband had the chicken fried bacon BLT - served on toasted bread and the bacon is coated in fried chicken batter and fried. AMAZING. I even told the chef! Brianne was our server and she covered the entire restaurant of customers (new and regulars) with the same professional manner. I was so impressed that I will go to Fat Boss's Pub every time I'm in Abilene!

Ate here for lunch. The food menu is small, but the food was decent for bar food. If you are looking for a cold beer or cocktail you should be able to find something to appease you here!

I am a business owner. I've worked for the hospitality industry for many years (in Miami & New Orleans) and understand customer service all too well. This woman was completely RUDE. I DROVE 1 1/2 hours from San Angelo for the Crawfish with my Employee/Apprentice and his girlfriend. The crawfish was late due to a flat tire on their way here, so we had time to kill. At first, we thought we'd sit at a table so that we could eat comfortably. Erika, came to our table to serve us. However, her demeanor was snooty & in a completely disrespectful tone, she demanded that if we sit at this table, we weren't allowed to order directly at the bar...that we had to go through her. However, she was super frustrated...although, not by us because we had literally JUST gotten here. She didn't let me get a word in. She literally HUFFED AT ME and swung her curly locks at me and stormed off. She was SO RUDE, that I'm in utter disbelief that you have someone of this caliber working in an establishment where customer service outta be a priority. Why? Tips! Why else?!? I have NEVER experienced service like this at a bar...and I've lived in Miami & New Orleans. Work ethic is a must if you want a business to prosper. I'm telling you NOW...SHE is hurting your profits. Had we not decided to sit at the bar and have HOLLY taking care of us, you wouldn't have earned a single penny of my hard earned money...regardless of crawfish.

Wasn't impressed with my experience at all. The bar is slow an pretty easily distracted, and I recently had the staff tell me I couldn't go back inside to finish my drink after smoking because it was too close to closing time. They closed in a half hour and I wasn't let back in to finish what I paid for.. They had the potential to be a great place and they dashed it.

Whent to lunch with my husband this week at Fat Boss's, and glad I did. We went @1:45pm. The Bartender knew the menu and was helpful, and quick to get our order in. We both had the fish tacos, they were so good. Warm grilled fish, cold spicy slaw and just the right mix of celontro. Oh yuum. We can't wait to try some of the other items on the menu, we will be back!

Ok service was not so great but damn it those pulled pork nachos were amazing!!!!beer was good and cold. Clean and nice bar. Will be back again.

Just got in to town from San Diego and wanted to check out a bar so I came here. For Abilene this place is actually pretty sweet! They have a good amount of draft beers and lots of liquor choices. I also ordered food, Club Sandwich with fries, and that was delicious. The staff was very friendly and helped me out with suggestions on places to go and things to do during my visit! I will be back here soon.

This review is written from the standpoint of a lunch stop or a non-peak time period. I don't do crowds or loudness. That being said Fat Bosses is one of my favorite places to drop in during the afternoon on my days off or after work. My favorite thing on their menu is the burger. I saw in a previous review a gentleman had a bad experience with his, but in my multiple visits I've never had a bad experience. It's large and always cooked just right. Refills come quickly and I'm never sitting there with an empty glass. The bartender and waitstaff are always attentive and friendly. I personally like the decor. My only suggestion for improvement is to ditch the fries they serve. I think they're called "hand cut" fries? Yeah they suck. Serve some steak fries or the old fashioned ribbed ones. But that's a preference, not a complaint. As the 4 star rating says, I'm a fan. Now, when the place starts filling up and getting busy, I'm out the door. I can not give an honest review of service during peak times. Another positive is I love the downtown location. Always been a fan of downtown Abilene.

I like this little place! I enjoy going here alone on Saturday afternoons, playing the juke box and having a few beers for some alone time. If you're looking for food try the sampler appetizer or they have the BEST club sandwich I've ever had. I'm not sure what's different about it, but you'll crave the taste forever if you give it a try!

Their customer service is legitimately the worst. If your passing through town (or even just looking for moderately fast service) don't go here. We ordered two burgers right away and waited 25 minutes before asking where our food was. The waitress went to check and let us know they had "just started working on it." The place was empty and the manager was not present. After that I paid for my tea and went to Subway...

This place was very surprising. We try to make it here for lunch quite often. The first time we stopped by was out of convenience, and I'm very happy that we did. Their food is not your normal bar food! Burgers are great, but some of their other dishes are what really make the place worth a stop. Fish and chips is excellent, and their tacos are perfect. Even their cheese steak was a surprise. They also have daily specials and good selection of local and Texas beers on tap. Atmosphere is a mix between a pub and sports bar, yet family friendly. Servers and bartenders are great folks!

Food is good and beer is cold. Always like lunch and dinner here. I order a variety of different things from the menu. Burgers are good, the Cheese steak is awesome. This time I had the Southwest pulled pork sandwich, spicy and delicious.

Great beer selection. Big tasty burgers fixed up just right. Better than i expected.

I love going to the pub ... or used to ... but I'm also trying to watch my weight so I often get a salad. But good grief ... I pay $10.81 after taxes for a large container of a chief salad that BARELY covers the bottom. I can go right up the road to United's salad bar and get a salad literally 3x the size of this salad and only pay $8. It's crazy. The Pub used to give large salads for that money but what they are producing now should only be a $5 salad in my opinion. In fact ... I used to get this salad, from the Pub, twice this size and pay barely over $8. C'mon!!

Great pub. Friendly staff. Drink specials all the time. Would recommend for a chill night.
