Google
Diner style restaurant serving great breakfast! Our server today was Rose, what a sweetheart! Coffee was filled as needed and was always hot and fresh. Breakfast arrived in a timely fashion and was absolutely delicious! Eggs were on point, cooked to order. Friendly and inviting atmosphere, space is clean.

I can’t say no to trying a long running business, and Fat Boy Burgers was worth the stop. They’ve been around since 1952, and their food was excellent. The price wasn’t too bad, and the staff was quick to get our order in. I tried the Fat Boy olive burger, and I upgraded my side to the onion rings. The burger was satisfying and full of umami flavor from the beef and olives, and the onion rings were perfectly crispy. I can understand how they’ve managed to stand the test of time; they must have a loyal customer base. If you’re craving an old fashioned burger, you really can’t go wrong giving this place a try.

Google
Such a cute little place. The onion rings and the pickle chips were a surprisingly delight. The waitress said they hand dip and fry fresh. Burgers were good. The loaded potato soup was the award winning star and they make it from scratch every morning.

Visited one last time.  You have until February 12, 2025 to visit.  Beware!  “DANGER MEN COOKING.”  (HA HA!) - Bacon Blue Burger - $12.59: I’ve had a couple of blue cheese burgers and I wanted to have Fat Boy’s before they closed.  Their bacon is some of the very best.  I live within running distance and remember running by the restaurant in the morning smelling the bacon on many occasions.  I finally stopped in and tried it.  YUM! The burger patty was ordered medium and was fairly close to medium.  The burger was medium quality and seasoned well.  The toppings were spot on.  The blue cheese was mediocre, but not bad.  The cheese was great and melted well.  The bun was spot on. - Ultimate Grilled Cheese - $7.99: This is my daughter’s favorite here and she has ordered it at least twice.  They used to sprinkle fried cheese bits, but it doesn’t look like they do that anymore.  It was her favorite part. - Reuben - $11.99: Accidentally received instead of the grilled cheese.  We did not eat it, but it is pictured for your reference since I took the picture without realizing what happened until later. - Fries (comes with the burger and grilled cheese at extra cost): Crinkle cut.  I was able to see from the kitchen that they had a bowl of fries already made ahead for orders to dish from.  They were warm and good, though. - Chips (comes with the burger and grilled cheese by default): Made in house.  I am not a fan of the chips made this way, but that is the same with most restaurants that make their own chips.  If you like most other places, you’ll like these.  I personally prefer to upgrade to fries. - Sloppy Boy - $16.99: Probably my favorite here.  I’ve ordered it at least 6 times in the past.  It is HUGE!  The beef patties dominate here!  The bun is comically small compared to the burger patties.  It is massive and VERY messy.  Forget your manners and just go for it.  It is SO good and you won’t go hungry.  (Sorry, I don’t have a picture.) - Service: Fairly good.  Some of the staff have been there a long time and are passionate. - Atmosphere: Definitely a mom and pop shop feel.  Some 80’s and 70’s nostalgia on the wall.  Not kept up with remodelling and the bathroom is TINY, but it has a feel of warmth that cannot be missed. - Conclusion: You will be remembered and missed!  If Governor Whitmer can officially appreciate this place and commemorate it, it is safe to say it is a national treasure that we will never get back. Visited usually on Saturdays because the hours are breakfast and lunch only (except toward the end when open for suppers on Thursdays and Fridays).

Hey Bob

Google

Google
Had lunch there today and it was delicious! Best onion rings and deep fried pickles I've ever had! Seriously, ever! The batter makes it. I had the cheeseburger deluxe and that was great. Juicy, good flavor. I joked with the server that I had to do "the Hunch". Totally recommend!

Google
Decent little meal. Probably a buck or two more than it should have been compared to relative places and what you get. Handful of fries and a burger that easily fits in the palm of your hand. But the taste was good, food came out at a decent pace. Service was attentive. In and out in under 30 minutes at lunch time seemed like an alright turnaround too.

Google
Had breakfast and it was good. Place was busy and waiter took good care of us. Coffee was refilled in a timely manner and the order priced right. They also have great burgers! 🍔

Yelp
Old school diner with homemade food. It's been there for 70 years and I have childhood memories. Burgers are scrumptious and fries and rings piping hot. Their breakfast menu looks great too! Rosie our server was excellent. Hurry it's closing soon!!

Yelp
We saw reviews on this burger shop. We were tired from traveling all day so we ordered To Go. As soon as we walked the door the girl said "what would you like?" My first thought was well let us look at the menu. Then we ordered the 3 piece chicken tenders & the bbq burger. We ordered fries & onion rings. The lady asked us if we'd like ranch or house sauce. So I said "I'll have house sauce" and my husband said "I'll have that too." When we got back to our hotel room and noticed, no house sauce. Only 1 small container of ranch & 1 pkt of ketchup. The burger was small & the chicken tenders were tough to eat and very salty. The onion rings were just ok & fries were so salty I could only eat a few. Maybe they just had a bad night, but we won't go back. Paid $30 and only about $10 was edible. The shop offers burgers, kids meals, salads & ice cream. Small area to dine in plus small outdoor patio.

Yelp
Small corner bar restaurant! Really good burgers so definitely worth the drive over there. I did the monthly special which was a jalapeño and bacon burger which was really good. The homemade chips were also spot on. Service wasn't the quickest so just make sure you have enough time!

Yelp
This place has been such a familiar, kind staffed and just true staple of so many of my Sunday mornings growing up. Wether I went with my grandparents for a post church burger to now being able to grab a delicious sandwich and tots with my wife and my own little boy, I genuinely almost come to tears knowing this might've been are last sit down meal and review since it's sadly leaving us after over 70 years of good family business. I will miss them dearly.

Yelp
Old school diner serving breakfast and burgers. The cheeseburger was quite good being juicy and thick, not overcooked. Onion rings were good as well. Service is friendly but don't expect high speed, this place is leisurely. Decor is simple and functional with free parking behind the diner.

Tim K.

Yelp
Exactly the type of restaurant I look for when traveling, but never find. A must stop when we entertain business guests, always a request to go back each time. Fat Boy Burgers is an institution in the Grand Rapids area.

Yelp
We've been meaning to go for a while and finally made it for breakfast. The food was good and the service was very hospitable. We'll be back for burgers.

Jack M.

Yelp
Not a very nice place. Not very nice food. The staff was not very pleasant. So I would recommend going next door to Dollar General and get something

Yelp
My first review was many years ago. Since then, everything has gotten better about this Cheshire neighborhood gem. But it has taken a dedicated owner and staff that have continually worked at making the shop better. I stop at least once a week, and I'm always pleased with the food, the staff, and the continual updates made on the 60+ year old building.

Yelp
BURGERS! Online order and pick up was little off but great burger and fries for good price

Yelp
SUMMARY: Some of the food is fine, some of it is...not great. It's a bit pricey. The burgers tasted good enough. We like the buns they use. They gave a decent amount of sauce and toppings with the burgers, and I like the barbecue this place uses. That said, the burgers taste like very generic meat and toppings you could easily put together at home. Plus, our burgers were a bit overdone. About half of our onion rings were also overdone. The onion rings are really not good. Not inedible, just not a good batter. One onion ring was made from an inedible, papery ribbon from the outer layer of an older onion, so no matter how much I chewed, I couldn't get my teeth through it. The fries were pretty tasteless. The fresh cut fries (straight fries) weren't salted, and as pictures from other users show, they were super soggy. The chili fries were also without seasoning, it seems, and somehow covering them in chili did absolutely nothing to add any flavor to the dish. The service was pleasant and timely. Overall, I just can't justify coming back to this place, especially for the price. The fact that so many people rave about this place is proof that you can't trust anyone. If you want a basic burger and fries like this place offers, Bridge Street Burger Shack up in Rockford. It's better and cheaper.

Yelp
This place is your classic straight fire burger place. Solid burgers and fried food side options. These diner-esque burger joints feel like returning home, and Fat Boy beings you there. Friendly neighborhood staff with the a classic grill guy flipping patties through the kitchen window. A slice of America through and through.

Yelp
Food was good, portions adequate. Service and lichen were horrible. Like to support local businesses but this was not worth the time.

Yelp
Fat Boy Burgers is an iconic burger joint in Grand Rapids. They've been around since 1952. Guys. That's 68 years. ⁣ ⁣ Their signature "Fat Boy burger" is an olive burger that always cures my cravings. I tried something new today and ordered their Mac n Cheeseburger and it was so delicious I wish I had ordered 2! ⁣ ⁣ And don't get me started on their breakfast, you'll have to check out that menu on your own - the options are unique and you'll be surprised how good it is! ⁣ ⁣ Any burger is a good burger here, and I'm sure you'll find that the classic service and atmosphere of Fat Boy will take you back in time to the simpler days. And if you're a fan of a thick & creamy milkshake, order one. ⁣ ⁣ Definitely a must stop diner.⁣ ⁣ Plain, simple, delicious. Fat Boy.

Yelp
What a great little burger joint! I visited Fat Boy for the first time last weekend and was pleasantly surprised at the warm atmosphere, friendly service, and truly good food. I had the basic Fat Boy burger with bacon, which was plenty big, fresh, and tasty. With the burger I had an order of their fresh cut fries, which were fantastic. I topped it off with a Coke to drink and had a perfect meal for just less than $10.00. I like that Fat Boy has some history, was clean, and food that is as solid as it gets. I'll be back because I heard the hand cut onion rings are to die for!

Yelp
A classic in GR. Been around a long time and for good reason. Hope they do well. Great burgers and breakfast - love the coffee in the old school mugs!

Yelp
I stopped by Fat Boys last week for lunch. I live in the neighborhood and have been past it many times, but decided to try it out. The restaurant is a diner style place and serves sandwiches, burgers and the like. We went on a Saturday around 12:30. We sat ourselves at a booth and we're promptly served by a waitress. Both of us got burgers, I got a cheese burger and guest got a fat boy burger. It comes with chips ,but you can request natural fries, crinkle cut or onion rings for extra. We both wanted the natural fries. The food came out in a decent amount of time. The burger looked and tasted good. The Patty was crisp on the outer edges, but juicy and delicious in the center. The fries, we didn't really like them as much. They were delivered still wet with fry oil. They were unsalted and limp, there was no crispy parts really. It's like they shoved a potato through a slicer, threw them in the fryer for a bit and dumped them in the basket. I would try the onion rings or crinkle cut next time. Overall, a decent place for lunch, good price too.

Yelp
Delicious. Friendly Service. Comfortable atmosphere. Good to see the old NorthEast side place still doing business.
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
Absolute terrible food. The french fries had no seasoning an were so greasy, limp and undercooked that they were inedible. I ordered a double cheeseburger no mustard, no ketchup an add lettuce. It came with heavy mustard, ketchup and pickle. The 2 patties were cooked completely opposite. Bottom patty was over cooked and dry, while the top patty was beyond undercooked. Please choose somewhere else to eat

Yelp
OMG. I'm so glad someone posted about this place. The last time I was there (several years ago) it was horrible. I vowed never to go back. The pictures I saw were nothing like the food I had been served previously. They had hand cut fried and fresh burger patties. The burger was great, but I got a few extra olives. Oh speaking of extras, ask for extra napkins. My hands were a drippy mess after I plowed through the burger and not in a bad way. I think I'll be making some more frequent stops as its just around the corner from my house. I'll be back!

Yelp
So while in GR I was looking for a top rated burger/slider joint but I didn't just use Yelp. I looked at other sites as well. This was was consistently ranked first or second. A bit off the beaten path on the north end of town. I am a fan of of the vintage kitschy sign that rests atop the restaurant though the neon light is gone. Their claim to fame? A fat boy burger which is a quarter pound slider with green olives among other accoutrements. I passed on this one. I did get a regular hamburger and a Chicago dog. Both were very good. Now, I am a fan of coneys before windy city dogs. This Chicago dog was exceptional as it was absolutely loaded. I had the pleasure of being kept company by Janice who was a great conversationalist. They're strict with covid regs, take your temp etc. I'm not complaining at all. This is an old school joint that deserves recognition.

Yelp
Fat Boy's is an awesome place to eat! The service and atmosphere are both great, and the food is delicious! I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone!

Nos N' Savage's Food Ravage ..

Yelp
Nos and Savage's Food Ravage brought us to Fat Boy's Burgers. Since 1952, Fat Boy's has been filling bellies of people in Creston district. When you walk in, it certainly feels like the restaurant was lost in time from the album covers on the wall to the diner setting. Savage got a bacon cheeseburger and I got the bacon bleu. Do they have the greatest burgers in the world, no. Do they have the best burgers for the prices they have? A definite yes. Moist and juicy is the name of the game there with just enough gristle on the sides of the patty to authenticate them. I would suggest a bit more bleu cheese on the bacon bleu since when I bit into it, I could barely hint at the cheese inside. Despite that, the fries and homemade chips were good but, not seasoned at all, making for a dry experience. Its always a bit busy and the servers are extremely friendly. Clare, our server, was having to not only serve out half the tables but ring people up at the front and bus finished tables. Great servers make or break a dining experience and Fat Boy's knows good service. Nos and Savage give Fat Boy's Burgers a solid 4.1 out of 5. Great for all occasions and even prom night if you are looking for something homey and on the cheap.

Yelp
After several more visits, I continue to enjoy the food here but I can't justify a higher rating. I maintain that the service is sub-par. I have, on occasion, gotten good service here - but that's the exception and certainly not the rule. They seem to be chronically understaffed and they take longer than average to serve you. For some odd reason, the milkshakes take an inordinately long time for them to make. Given this, I would advise not bringing young kids that can't wait long to get their food or you will have to put up with a lot of whining. Ordering takeout ahead of time is a good way to get around the service issue. The burgers are always good, however. My staple is the 1 lb. "Super Fat Boy", which is an excellent olive cheeseburger. The hot dogs are decent, but not good enough for me to forego the burgers. I do enjoy the crinkle cut fries, but sometimes they are a bit on the dry side. I would consider you order a side of mayo and mix it with ketchup to dip them in - this makes them heavenly and will keep your cardiologist in business ;)
google avatar

Yelp
This was a really great stop! The cheeseburgers were delicious and we also ordered the fried mushrooms, which were so fresh! Glad we were able to try it out.

Yelp
I love Fat Boy Burgers! This place is definitely a go to for a hangover cure, or a greasy spoon if you're craving it. It's a tiny spot of a place, but every time I've been there, there hasn't been a wait to get a table. Service is alright; the last time a group of us came out there, the server messed up our order and we ended up staying there twice as long as we would have hoped. The kitchen puts out simple food, but not simplistic. They make classic burgers that are straight up done well, and stay true to the menu names. Onion rings are actual fresh onions deep fried, and the hand cut fries have the perfect crunchy texture on the outside with some softness in the middle. I ordered the Fat Boy breakfast for my daughter, and she devoured the whole thing! I can't say that we've had the omelettes ever, but we will be back soon to try those.
google avatar

Amy V.

Yelp
I'm not a local and have not heard of this place. So, I admit it, it doesn't look great from the outside, but this divy burger and breakfast joint was highly recommended. I was sure I was in the wrong place. Nope. This is the right place. And....It did Not disappoint! The food was so good. Low prices. Giant amazing onion rings. The burgers were crispy and the bun was toasted yet soft and fresh. The old school wall art of 70's bands was you know, right on. As well as the music. The staff was super chill and nice.
google avatar

Gary B.

Yelp
A Grand Rapids icon restaurant for sure. They have an olive burger that is really good. The burger is cooked well and seasoned just a bit. Lettuce, tomato, and tons of olives. French fries are good. Onion rings are real onions deep fries. Not the Burger King type. Now this is t the place I go on a consistent basis, but it nice to go down memory lane every once in a while. I have been going here for years. I've brought my kids here quite a few times. It's been bought and sold a few times I believe. Not quite what it used to be, but don't let that stop you from giving this quaint restaurant a try. If your looking for that down home small town feel. This is a place you might want to try. This is the place where people gather each day and sit around drinking coffee and chatting the morning away.
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
Good food, friendly service, and cheap food. This place reminds me of the restaurant in the television show Happy Days. The fried mushrooms are the best that I've tasted.

Yelp
I am so glad we stopped here! My friend and I were passing through on our way home and made a detour to check it out! It is a cool little dive right in Grand Rapids. It has a neat diner feel where you can come in and seat yourself. I ordered a cheeseburger, crinkle fries, and a strawberry shake -- it did not disappoint! The cheeseburger patty was fresh and prepared there and the strawberry shake was the perfect balance of sweet and refreshing. My *only* complaint is that the shake could have had a little more strawberry flavor. My friend ordered the same thing but with onion rings and they were delicious, especially if you love them extra crispy! The service was great - our waitress was friendly and sweet. I would definitely recommend dining at Fat Boy Burgers.

Daniel S.

Yelp
My family has been going here for four generations (and I am thinking three owners). They recently changed my favorite Blue Burger and I wasn't happy with that, but the new version is ok and it's led to my try some other things on the menu. Great fries. Great burger. Awesome history to the place.
google avatar

Nika D.

Yelp
A delicious Grand Rapids greasy spoon! We stopped in on our day off fo lunch and were not disappointed. The magnificent vintage sign is on point with the spot on diner food served inside. I had the Fat Boy Burger because not getting the namesake for your first time in should be a sin! The Fat Boy is a 1/3lb burger served with cheese, a little lettuce, chopped olive mayo, and a fresh tomato. It's a little heavy on the mayo but it's not healthy anyway so.... :) I ordered my burger with onion rings and i think they may have been the best onion rings I have ever had. They were super crispy and light. I'm glad we stopped.
google avatar

Bonka H.

Yelp
Regretting supporting their fund drive to stay in business. Today's food was pathetic. Soggy pickle fries, burger without the specified toppings and horrible service. What's goin on over there?

Betsey B.

Yelp
Great food! Period. Always consistent, the pandemic caused a few blips, but food never changed
google avatar

Douglas M.

Yelp
Stopped by for first time in years in search of great chili cheese fries. place had been remodeled and was very clean. Covid rules well adhered to. Chili cheese fries were just ok. Plenty of fries and chili but meh. Was looking for dish like used too get at the now gone Red Lion. I will keep looking.
google avatar

Neil S.

Yelp
Get a burger ... any of them. The home made chips are great but if you're going to indulge go ahead and grab some fries or onion rings. Finish it off with a chocolate malt and maybe a cup of chili if you're super hungry. Then sit back and enjoy. Way better burger than than any of the places downtown.
google avatar

Stephen G.

Yelp
This is the best burger I've had in Grand Rapids. I had the Breakfast Burger which is a standard burger with bacon, an egg, and hash browns. We took our food to go, but the place was really cool and clean inside. Only con I can think of is that they don't serve beer.
google avatar

Evan S.

Yelp
I stopped by on my way home from work and grabbed a mushroom swiss burger, chili cheese dog and onion rings for dinner. The chili dog was average, but the burger and rings were awesome! The rings were a bit greasy (as expected) but still had crunch and excellent flavor. Great place to stop for classic American fare.
google avatar

Adria C.

Yelp
This is one of my new favorite restaurants! I plan on going back quite often Food: Amazing burger; the taste was phenomenal. Service: Very friendly! Price: Very reasonable for what you receive.
google avatar

Tommy A.

Yelp
#CrestonGR's best greasy spoon that is fresh and delicious. The burgers are smashed on the grill and the fries are the perfect fix for that elusive hangover cure. But Fat Boy is where every other restaurant chef should go to taste the best fried pickles. Unlike those fresh out of the freezer chips (I.e. Pre-made) the ones here are homemade and it shows. Order one to share unless you are a greedy chip snip. Cash or Credit cards (again)
google avatar

Eva R.

Yelp
This is a nice, small burger joint with great food and service! Our waitress was lovely and there was only a short wait for the food. The only issue I have are the small restrooms. But otherwise than that, I have no complaints!
google avatar

Doc B.

Yelp
First time visiting. Burgers were very good and crispy on the edges, and the milkshakes were thick. Onion rings were a little greasy but tasty. This place has a really cool old school diner feel to it. The staff was very pleasant and friendly. Will definitely come back.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Great food! The burgers and dogs are tasty and the decor reminds me of an old diner. The only thing missing is a waitress named Flo but the staff is very friendly. The fresh cut fries are great.
google avatar

Yelp
Arrived at 1pm to a half-full restaurant, most tables already had their food. Our order (two people, two burgers, fried pickles) took 70 minutes to come out after being told we were 'next up' at about 50 minutes. We watched a few to-go customers come in, order, and receive their food all before we got our order. When it finally came? Not good. Burgers were luke-warm at best and fries were actually cold. We ate half our food and were offered a 50% discount for our wait, but even then at $13, it absolutely wasn't worth it. I feel even if the food had been hot, I'm not sure it would have been worth it. (Very few mushrooms on the mushroom swiss, cheese almost impossibly sparse, sloppy presentation, dry meat, etc.) The table of four next to us who ordered about 5 min after we had, walked out after getting their food without paying, so we weren't the only ones having issues. Fried pickles were the only hot and decent dish we had. Definitely not going back.

april k.

Yelp
Lived nearby for a long time, cannot believe I have never been here! Took advice and tried the FatBoy olive burger, the best I have had! I tried the onion rings and thought they were great too! I wasn't sure what to expect about the service based on other reviews, but it was fine. I will come back!

Chris H.

Yelp
Yesterday I had the burger flight! Definitely worth it! You get to have 5 different burgers all sliders( larger then most) with a side! Definitely will be coming back!!
google avatar

Danny H.

Yelp
Classic burgers, so glad this spot re-opened. It's my favorite quick burger place. Don't sleep on this spot, ya nerds!

Yelp
Surprisingly good breakfast. Service is outstanding because this restraunt sits empty most of the day. On a Sunday when all the other breakfast places are full - this is the place to hit. The bacon is very good. The eggs are good. The blueberry pancakes at 1.50$ a la cart is outstanding. The only downside is the bread is just average. I think the name "fat boy" scared a lot of people looking for healthier options.

Mary H.

Yelp
Ordered online, paid, left a 15 percent tip as thanks for the essential workers and drove to the restaurant to pick up my food. Waiting in the parking lot to pick up food when I get an email that the order has been cancelled. Called the restaurant but no one answers. Website says I will get a refund in 5 days. No food, no service, no money. If I could leave a zero rating I would.
