Fat Dan's Deli

This place is lit. Great vibe. Chicago oriented. I was in town for the night but hope to return with friends for an even better time. Has outdoor seating, which is covered. Oh and the food? Good stuff. I'm not sure if they are the best fries. But they are tasty hot. Not so much if you let them get cold. My sandwich was the best BLT I've had. But it was my first. Good stuff all the way around. They could spruce the place up with some Purdue stuff though.

We came to Fat Dans for the first time. Wasn’t sure what to expect, but just wanted something a little different than the norm. This place did not disappoint!! We had the Chicago dog and a burger and also got champ tots. Oh! And can’t forget the amazing fries! Everything was delicious. There’s just no other way to put it! We plan to come back plenty more times!

They offer a 3 item flight for their burgers. So many good options, I had to try. Slider versions of the big sandwich. AMAZING! Wings were on point also. Very nice staff, even better food. Don't ask for ranch! 😂

The wife and I were shopping and hanging out in Indianapolis and we decided to pop into Fat Dan’s for a quick beer. The place was full but not packed too tightly. We didn’t eat anything but it smelled great! I think the special was a meatloaf sandwich and I was a bit jealous because we had just eaten. ☹️ The prices seems perfectly fine. Staff was fantastic and friendly. A fun vibe from a very accessible establishment. I suggest that if life’s adventure ever sends you towards Fat Dan’s Deli go in and enjoy yourself, have a drink or something to eat. You won’t regret it!!

Very cool spot in downtown Indianapolis. I highly recommend their Chicago dog if you love a flavorful Chicago dog. Their fries were good and the loaded tater tots were amazing.

Amazing restaurant that has an amazing beer line up and food menu. We got the burger, melt and loaded fries and a few local brews and the food was hot, fresh, and great quality. The service was nice and made sure to give good recommendations for their beer selection. They try to only buy beers within Indiana or the local states surrounding Indiana. The place has seating indoors and outdoors and has a cool bar dive ambiance. I would go here again anytime I’m in the area!

This place had such good wings we went went twice during our short stay in Indy! The wings were incredibly delicious on their own but their hot wing sauce was truly unique. It's not just the standard Franks and butter. You can tell it's homemade and it's phenomenal. If we weren't continuing to travel, we would've purchased some to bring home. They have outdoor seating and allow dogs there. Only negative, both times we went we sat at the bar with different bar tenders and both times the service to refill drinks was slow. Update: Service much improved. Good still amazing.

Sort of a hectic dude-bro atmosphere. The brisket is awesome and they serve a proper Reuben. The meatloaf is actually kinda great. Lunch-time gets pretty crowded, but they also offer catering if you are into a quieter table (pricing is very reasonable). All together, a decent place to get a tasty and hearty sandwhich.

Ok so. I've been wanting to try Fat Dan's for quite some time and I'm so glad that the place I was intending to go this morning hasn't opened yet because HOT D*MN. First, these may actually be the best fries I've ever had in my life. STELLAR isn't even a word that can adequately describe them. The mac and cheese was so stupid creamy that even full, I couldn't stop eating it. I got the burger flight with the Ghost, Wells St, and Fat Frenchy. My dining partner ordered the NY Fat. Out of the four burgers we tried, the only one that didn't hit was the ghost burger. The flavor was bomb, but I was expecting it to be spicy -- and this unfortunately had none for me. (Also. Get the d*mn brisket today and every day bc that is the JUICIEST brisket I've had in Indy. Our server was AWESOME and kind and even caught that my partner had spilled sauce on their shirt and brought a rag to do damage control on the stain which was so responsive and way above and beyond. This place was great and will absolutely be a staple in our foodie expeditions!

The food is always fantastic regardless of what you get. I forgot how hot and spicy the dirty tots were. The downtown location can get a bit busy and sometimes there's limited staff availability so just be prepared for a little wait.

Arguably my favorite wings of all time. They are smoked and completely fall off the bone. also love their house hot sauce. I used to live downtown but have since moved to Chicago. when i found out i would be back in town for work this was the #1 spot i had to make sure to get.

Great food, great service, and a chill relaxed vibe. The hot sauce is fantastic and you can buy it by the Pint. Highly suggest the Dirty Tots. You really can't go wrong with anything you order.

The food is tasty and authentic Chicago. I used to come here to watch cubs games. It was know as a cubs bar. Now, you're lucky if you can see it in a small corner TV, and they no longer play the sound for it. Disappointed.

Fucking awesome! Went before the Broncos last second loss to the Colts. Food was incredible and the staff was on point. Very friendly and accommodating. Lots of Bears fans in there watching the loss but it made for a great atmosphere. Can't wait to go back!

If you're here for wings--especially smoked wings--you're in for a treat. Truly some of the best in the city. But here's the deal: stick to the wings. Lately, the fryer oil seems... tired, so I'd skip fries, apps, or anything you expect to be crisp and golden. And whatever you do, don't ask for ranch--not that I did, of course. Their reaction alone is worth the trip, though!

I'm an old guy so would rank this kind of hipster joint. Lots of 'vintage' decorations, 5 or so big wall TV's. It not large but with big glass doors they open for a summer street patio. The food was outstanding although a bit messy to eat. Hot Italian sub was stuffed full of meat, don't know why they even try to add veggies. The burger was also nicely done, used american 'cheese' ugh and a super soft bun, both came with store bought ripple style potato chips. The Mac N Cheese was sort of a velvetta style, also store bought, not creamy, not real hot and average at best. They get one ding-4 things...onions on both sandwiches were overkill, crap Coke products, prices are above average, bathroom was trashed. Stick with the sandwiches and you'll enjoy

We came by on a Tuesday evening. Tried the Dirty tots, Wells St burger, Fat Havana burger, and some wings. Everything came out quickly, no-nonsense style on deli paper and was absolutely delicious. Our server was very nice and I cannot recommend this place enough if you want a perfect low-key dining experience. 10/10. No notes.

My husband and I had the Dirty Tots, Chicago Dog, and the NY Fat absolutely delicious!! Portion size is overwhelming and prices are reasonable. Service was outstanding and so nice. Ambiance is chill and simply perfect. We also had some local beers and that too was so good. We're definitely will be coming back.

Their smoked wings and tater tots are to die for! The vibe is even better when the garage doors are open -- such a fun and welcoming space. Highly recommend!

Been here a hundred times but first time trying the Italian Sausage and Cubano because everything else is so good. This was amazing as well! We no longer live in Indy so it's always a treat to get back to Fat Dans!

I had very high hopes when coming to Fat Dan's. I was in town for a work event and some locals from the office said this was the place to be. The layout is kind of old school, rustic, and laid back. I ordered the Wake N' Bake burger and it was very good. A lot of flavors and the burger was packed with almost anything that could be found on a farm. The server we had was very nice and accommodating but the manager of this establishment was incredibly rude. I came with a group of coworkers, and he was upset with the amount of space we took up. We all paid, were civil, and even helped others around us move chairs and tables to make their visit accommodating. I won't come back simply because of the manager. I'd instruct people if they want to experience Fat Dan's to go to a different establishment where maybe they care a little more about the customers.

Went to Fat Dan's on Mass Ave this week and I that it was really good. The inside has a bit of a hole-in-the-wall, super casual vibe. Our server was nice and we had no problems over all. I ordered the Gobble Gobble turkey burger which was a lot better than I was expecting from a turkey burger and it was massive. We also ordered their fries which were my favorite part. I would come back here for the fries alone!

My husband picked me up this from his lunch out. I ordered the Fat Dans Burger. It was good! There was a lot of flavor to the burger and toppings. I also got the fries. The fries were okay- they had some of them not all the way cut up which was interesting.

I mean..it's okay. This definitely is not worth the hype. It has the potential to be utterly amazing, but fell short. Food- Chicken Wings. 6/10. Skin was too crispy and the meat was dry. Cheeseburger- Bland. Falling apart. Soggy bun. Hot Dog- Costcos are better. That shouldn't be a thing. Pastrami & Corned Beef Sandwich- Second best thing we ordered. Hands down delicious. And if we come here again, this is what we will be ordering. FRIES- The best thing we ordered. They use perfect potatoes. They were delicious and filling! Service- our server was okay. It was our first time there and we told her that, but she literally didn't care. She was just very short and seemed liked we bothered her. Cleanliness- 1/10. Our table was disgusting when we sat down. We had to clean our own table. The floor was disgusting. Thank gosh I have a toddler and always have wet wipes. THE BATHROOM...just EW. It's an "everybody" bathroom. Which means for women, there is pee every where. Be prepared for the smell and for the pee on the floor and on the toilet.

As usual love coming here. They were busy so we sat at the bar and I actually enjoyed sitting up there which is something that's usually out of comfort zone, the service was fast and we were able to watch some of the NCAA game. Even though sports are playing it's not overly loud in there. Also they are kid friendly in the dining area. This was my first time trying their ribs and I do wish they had more smoke to them. Other than that they are fall off the bone tender and the sauce is a good balance or sweet and spicy. Hubby got the NY burger: the patty was a little dry but the pastrami on it was fantastic. Overall it was pretty good.

The waitress was very attentive and keep drinks full and any of our needs food was good I had a dip, the aujus was a different taste it was a spicey version, the wings was really good a surprise , great atmosphere pulled pork was good we got a burger to go for our dad and he was i. Love with it nice little spot to give another try sooner than later

Fat Dans never fails to be soooo delicious! The food comes fast, is always flavorful and its a great local spot to hang out and get to know others in your community!

Ordered a breaded chicken sandwich...asked for a side of mayo. Got charged .50 cents on the bill for the mayo. I thought it was a mistake since most chicken sandwiches get mayo on them. I asked the waiter about it but he said that was the way it was. I get it it's only .50 cent but I hate getting nickeled and dimed to death. The sandwich was mid. My brother's and I met their monthly...will go elsewhere.

I've been here many times since 2020. Food is always really good. Some of my favorite wings in Indy.

This is literally one of my faves in Indy! I love coming on Sunday or Saturday since this is the ONLY TIME you can get ribs! The ribs are are so good and slow cooked! The service is always amazing and my food is always SO HOT. Not to mention the vibe reminds me of Chicago and the ambiance captures that! If you're ever in the area def check It out

Great Chicago style food in downtown Indy! They have all of the Chicago classics, except for pizza, on their menu. In addition to the classics they have some smoked meat! It's a great menu. I got the Italian beef and a side of fries. The side of fries was MASSIVE. Well worth $5. It could easily feed two. The Italian beef was delicious. They have a great beer selection, including Old Style on tap, which is hard to find in Indy. They staff is very friendly and the service was very quick, the inside of the restaurant is pretty much your standard Chicago cubs sports bar. Lots of cool decorations and tons of TV's with sports. All in a perfect location right off of Mass Ave. Overall, this is a great place. You definitely want to try them out!

Easily a top burger in Indy. The double brother is stacked, perhaps too much burger for one person. I barely finished mine, highly recommend. The options for loaded fries or tots makes this place for the boyssss. You The Champ, Champ is a perfect combination of tantalizing flavors. The vibes here are perfect. Great Chicago themed spot for burgers and brews. Service was attentive and pleasant. The portions are large for everything so bring an appetite.

All I can say is wow. My friend took me here and we got the wings and fries. Everything was seasoned so well and taste so delicious lol. The fries came out on a sheet of paper and it was a plate of goodness gracious. It was so fire and yummy. The customer service was good! They were very accommodating and helpful. We ordered drinks and the drinks were good. This is a place that I will keep in my rotation of ideas when I'm craving chicken wings. Yum!

My girlfriend and I stopped in here for the first time Sunday after church. The name gave us an indication of the type of food we could expect and we walked in and looked at their simple yet yummy sounding menu. We sat down and we're greeted by Kara (or Cara couldn't remember spelling) and she was awesome! Her smile, awesome energy and great customer service made our entire visit awesome! We were also co-served by Britney and she was awesome too. Great energy. Always had a good attitude! We ordered a bunch of food and thought it came out really good! My burger was a little over cooked but other than that was very tasty. Slutty tots were good. The fries were bomb! Coleslaw was really good too. Overall I really liked my experience here and will be back!

If I could give them a zero rating I would! The burger was completely undone in the middle. I asked for the hamburger to be well done and it is brown on the outer portion and completely pink inside. I took a big bite out of the sandwich and saw the pink inners and immediately spit it out. I called the restaurant a lady answered named Wendy. She placed me on hold for an extensive period of time. Finally, a lady named Amanda got on the phone to tell me that she couldn't refund my money and they do not do refunds except by gift card. She was offered to give me $20 on a gift card in place of the charge card purchase of $18.42. I explained I had no intention of returning after such a horrific first experience. For me personally, biting into a raw burger is like literally trying to take a bite out of the cow. I'm totally grossed out! Once I expressed my dismay with this process Amanda said she would call me back after she spoke to her Manager who was in a meeting until 4:30 p.m.. I waited to see if she would give me money back before posting this but here it is 8 p.m. and I haven't heard from Amanda or her Manager so I'm out of $18.42 and famished because I haven't had eaten breakfast and now I'm out of luck on lunch as well. Ironically, a co-worker stated to me after the fact that she does not eat there because their food is undercooked. Thanks a lot for NOTHING Fat Dan's Deli!!!! UPDATE: I left work at 9:38 p.m. got to the restaurant at 9:45 p.m. they were closed down even though online says they're open until 10 p.m.. There were two men and a lady standing outside when I walked up to the door and sighed when I saw all of the chairs placed atop the tables through the pane window. The lady asked me what did I need. I told her my refund that Amanda never called me back at 4:30 regarding as she said that she would. Long story short, the lady's boyfriend took $20 out of his pocket to refund me and the lady said she will talk to the Manager to get reimbursed tomorrow. I thanked her. but reiterated numerous times that they didn't have to do that I wanted the establishment to be held accountable for peddling raw food. They were unyielding. There were no trash cans so they took the food and I thanked them again and I left.

I eat at the Broad Ripple location regularly and recommended to my coworkers to do lunch at the downtown location. I've had the beef. The combo. The wings. About 6 different burgers. The dirty tots. It's all great. Went with the Chubby this time with no tomato or ketchup ( don't like tomato and I think ketchup is a weird addition to this one). It was amazingggg. Comes with chips. 2 coworkers got the wings and were in love. Recommend the hot bbq as your side sauce. I could eat here once a week for the next decade and. It get tired of it. And please, please, don't have ask if they have ranch. They don't.

I tried Fat Dans and enjoyed my experience. I would totally come back! We came for lunch and I ordered the jumbo wings (10pc). and also the mini corn dogs. The wings were so delicious and it was a pretty good deal - 10 for $14 and it was enough to fill you especially for lunch. The corndogs were also very delicous. It came with like a honey mustard dipping sauce. I would definitely order those two items again. I would have given this a 5 star review but 2 things kind of took away from the experience. The server seemed agitated when I just wanted to ask for extra sauce, I get that shes busy, but at the same time I thought she was kind of rude. We received the bill and were also charged for extra sauce, which were 2oz containers. I don't mind being charged for the sauce if the server was not rude in the first place... also theres alot of corndogs, you would think it would need more sauce than just a 2oz cup and for 3 people. Yeah, my two cents, I would come back just for the food or togo.

Nestled in one of the most vibrant areas of the core of Indianapolis, Fat Dan's Deli appears to be doing quite will with this particular location. I was in the mood for something hearty on my way to rehearsal, so after a good long look at the easy to navigate menu and a few clicks on their online ordering service, the anticipation of the East Coast Submarine was kicking in. Upon arrival, on the easier side of the street parking wise, it was just a few easy exchanges and I was on my way. While I ordered the sammitch to go, I could really see spending some time in the space, as it appeared to be casual and inviting. Wow, that sub. A dynamic blend of ham, capicola, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato and a perfect amount of oil & vinegar and oregano. In it's category, of of the best I've had in a long time. Were I to return, I would probably have it Al Capone style, their moniker for a hot sandwich. I realize this spot has been in Indy for a while now, but I'm glad that I've finally had a chance to visit. I'd highly recommend Fat Dan's and wish them well.

Always my favorite place to visit and this one is the downtown location and it is my first time. I had the fatty melt and my husband had the well street fat burger both are always delicious. I also love that they serve the lemon shakeup like the broad ripple location and the ambiance is also pretty cool, we sat outside. Our server was attentive which is always the case at Fat Dans, now I'm torn between downtown and broad ripple....great problem I think

This is a great casual spot to grab drinks! They have garage doors that stay open on nice days and a decently sized patio for downtown. The beer selection is great! We ordered the loaded fries & they do not skimp on the toppings!! The wings were super smoky and flavorful, however I prefer mine tossed in the sauce. My only disappointment about the wings is not having any ranch available to dip in, as they do not have it available. The patty melt was just okay, but it was pretty dry and didn't seem worth the price. This is definitely more of an app & drinks place in my opinion than full on dinner!

Went there on Sunday at Noon and IT WAS CLOSED!!!!!! Website clearly states that they open at 11 AM on Sunday. LONG DRIVE FOR NOTHING!!!!!! Wont try again! Screw me over once and you don't get another chance.

I was traveling across country by train and stopped in several cities and this place had the best bar food of the entire trip! Omg y'all the wings! The wings! Before I even left the restaurant I was trying to figure out if and when I could get back to get more before I headed to my next destination. The bartender, Gavin I think was his name, was awesome. It was fairly quiet evening so we chatted about my trip, food and booze in general. He made me a great old fashioned and basically recommended the whole menu lol. I ordered the dirty tots with fries instead of tots, the ghost burger, a Chicago dog, and of course the wings with hot bbq sauce on the side. Everything was truly delicious, hot and fresh. The fries were crispy and the buns were soft. Idk who Dan is but his hot sauce is bomb! Not just heat, but also dynamic flavor, which way too many hot sauces miss the mark on. Last but certainly not least, the wings were perfectly seasoned (I love a dry rub) and perfectly smoky, no sauce required. Would absolutely return again and again!

I'm not sure how I haven't been here before because I have been missing out! Located on college so parking can be tough but I promise it's worth it. Inside is a bar with plenty of beer options. Many local beers on tap! Their food style is to serve on a piece of paper - known for their meats. We shared a large order of fries for the table (four of us and was plenty) and I ordered the brisket sandwich. The portions were huge and tasty! Service was prompt as they knew we were off to a basketball game and we appreciated it. I will definitely be back!

Had to work late downtown, since I missed the Yelpies I decided on Fat Dan's! Since it was 7pm on a Thursday, their was a small crowd, nonetheless our food came out quickly and was delicious! Gavyn said he believed they served the best wings in town, Gavyn - they were very good, thank you for the suggestion! We also ordered the ghost burger which comes with chips, a side of tots and coleslaw - everything was great! Would love to come back soon!

Are you searching for the best wings in Indy, if so, look no further then Fat Dans. Their smoked wings (yes, not sauced and tossed) are INCREDIBLE - excellent smoked flavor, super meaty... and they've NOT inflated the price like many other restaurants which is why I'm so loyal to them. Not only are the wings a must, but the DIRTY TOTS are essential to your experience. They come out piping hot every time and are loaded with goodness from the god above. Lastly, they have multiple TVs inside so it's a perfect spot to watch a game!

Mass Ave does it again. This place is awesome. There is metered street parking available or you may be able to find a free spot in a nearby neighborhood, if you feel like walking a bit. They have a fun menu full of tasty food. They have indoor and patio seating available and they have sectional garage doors that can raised up to open up the indoor seating and let in tons of fresh air. Patio seating, where I set up camp, is pet friendly. Someone had their pooch with them while I was there. The staff there is very friendly, funny and attentive. Fred is the man. The restaurant has a full bar and beer specials. There are televisions at the bar where you can catch your team while you drink and/or eat. I ordered the NY Fat and got a side of fries. It did bot take long for my food to be prepared. They bring it out on paper, not a tray, which was awesomely odd. It worked. The sandwich was as delicious as it was unique. It is what you get if a pastrami sandwich and a burger had a baby. The burger is huge. It dwarfed the bun. The sandwich came with potato chips, but I had to get some fries too. The fries are fresh cut and perfectly seasoned. And you get a ton of them. They were delicious like the burger. I am glad I got an extra side of them. I cannot say enough about this place. It is awesome, awesome, awesome. I highly recommend this spot and am sure that you will not be disappointed. I will definitely be back soon.

Fantastic spot for folks who like great food, sports (especially baseball), people watching & indoor/outdoor dining. The wings are great...dry rub and smoked...some of the best in Indy.

Fat Dan's lives up to its name! The food is hardy and filling, and don't expect a ton of green options when you come, however it's super yummy with a great vibe. The energy is casual and great for a chill date night. The service has always been good and everything comes out fast and hot. The pulled pork sandwich is one of the best I've had in awhile. A word to the wise - make sure you come hungry and prepared for a heavy and large portion - maybe even share with others!

Went with a group of 7 right after the Pride Parade. So you can imagine how busy it was. Our server Cara was amazing! She served us with a smile, checked on us regularly, and allowed us to pay separately without a fuss. The food is ALWAYS good but it's services like Cara that will keep me going back.

This place has amazing corn dogs and macaroni and cheese! Beware when they say something is spicy, it is spicy! They are a big No Ranch establishment which hurts this midwestern heart. They have large portions that you can definitely split with others. They also have a large drink selection that you can choose from! It's really nice when they have the windows and doors open. They have a great patio as well that's off a popular street on mass ave! Our service was great and we got everything we ordered in a timely manner!

This is a great place for a burger and fries, or a good sandwich. They have large portions too! You get a side with your burger (I got chips), but we also ordered fries to share. We couldn't finish them! Which is a great problem to have. Everything comes out on a piece of large paper, which is both cool and sanitary. We got some beers as well, they have a great selection! They have a done a good job of keeping precautions in place from what I could tell. The tables were far enough apart, they have patio seating, and all the employees were wearing masks.

Love coming in here! Great sandwiches, hotdogs, sausage, brisket, pulled pork, amazing loaded fries and tots.. such a good mix of food and lots of craft beer options. My go to is ALWAYS the grilled cheese, add brisket, with their hot sauce to add as you like. You will not be disappointed. Most pictures are from past visits, but the wings are from this one! Tried the wings for the first time. So good even without the sauce, as they are dry rubbed and you can taste that they are smoked! They have several sauce choices to pick from!
