Google
Great local burger joint with tons of beer options, both local and from around the tri-state area. I happened to come on a trivia night for a date, and it made the whole experience even more fun. Definitely a spot I’d go back to!

Great place to relax and enjoy Great things beer. Love their Crumble berry Stumble berry Hefeweizen and Spooky tooth Also have food menu Must visit if in Pittsburgh

Google
Some pretty yummy food here for sure. My Pastrami and Brisket mixed Sandwich thing was on fire, and the homemade chips that came with it were great. Beer menu was excellent as well. Wife got a Brisket sandwich and Tots, they were cooked well. Would definitely go back.

The space is kinda small, especially since the have shut down their other room that has more seating. They have a nice selection of beer on tap and drinks. Staff is friendly and responsive. Food was ok. I ordered the large smoked wings. They were dry and and tasted like leather. Not a nice flavor and moist inside as expected. Prices were average on the food.

We must have been there on a busy night. Was over an hour wait....which wasnt expected. Anyhow, food came promptly after ordering. Everyone was so hungry it was inhaled....everyone said the food made up for the wait. So bring your appetite and enjoy a drink or 2 while you wait 🙂

Food was delicious we got some smoked wings and some pierogies they were stellar and I had a pear margarita they should give 7 wings instead of 5 but they were good regardless

Google
Small space. We were in the area for a volleyball tournament and decided last minute to stop by here. We had heard good things. We had a party of about 10-11 people, so we expected to wait, no big deal. What we didnt appreciate was the host talking about how it was rude for us to expect them to accommodate us. She also stated, "I hate when people like that just show up. They should call an hour early so we can prepare the kitchen for such a large party." Mind you, they had a whole side shut down with plenty of seating available. Our waitress, and bar staff were super friendly and helpful. Which is why I still gave a decent star rating. The atmosphere star rating is for the lack of respect and trash talking done by the host. She was disrespectful to people who spent over $100 on 4 plates of food. If she hadn't said anything (at least loud enough for us to hear) I would have given 5 stars across the board.

Saturday day night. Food was so absolutely salty it was inedible. Burger was cooked to point it was dry and pastrami sandwhich tasted like nothing but a salt block. Nacho appetizer with brisket. Again brisket very very salty. Made for an icky dish. The nacho chips themselves were fine. But very limited toppings. Menu made them sound more satisfying. Service staff didn’t make the experience special enough to forget about the bad food. Slow to get entrees and repeatedly forgot to bring us silverware. I thought ordering a beer would be nice, but that to was a mistake as the Yinzer tap had a very sour stale taste. This was the second time I had eaten at this location and the first time was 5 star. I heard waitress tell another table they got a new food supplier. Well you all at Fatheads might want to reconsider because this experience was awful. $60 wasted. Should’ve went to Primantis

Yelp
I ate here for lunch with my coworkers on a Friday; we arrived shortly after they opened and got seated immediately. Our server was really attentive. We all split the Three Cheese Corn Dip & Giant Pretzel, both were tasty and were eaten very quickly. I also love when a dip (or any food) is served in a cast iron skillet. I got the OG smashburger and it was scrumptious. the sauce and onions really elevated it. Also the fries?! Perfectly cooked, I had to withhold myself from eating them all so I could save room for the burger lol. And the ranch was top tier. I've definitely been sleeping on Fat Head's.

Yelp
We have been coming here for better than 25 years. Our group was last here about a year ago, and we find that quality and variety has dropped sharply. The menu gets shorter and shorter. The sandwiches are fine but not the inspired monsters of years past. The chips remain quite good, as do many of the sauces. Front of house staff seemed bothered and largely uninterested. Fat Heads used to be a Pittsburgh Destination. Feels to me like they have given up.

Yelp
Was here in Pittsburgh with a buddy last month Wednessday through Saturday to catch the Dodgers vs the Pittsburgh Pirates. We got swept. I loved the PNC stadium and abundance of bars , pubs. I chanced upon this bar while walking around Pittsburgh. I love the name" Fat Heads Saloon". I got childhood friends who we call Fat head..lol. Anyway the bar was laid back and ckmfortable. Friendly staff and patrons snd hood priced. I felt welcome here snd s few brews and some bourbon. Nice way to finish a walkabout! I'd definitely come back.

Yelp
Luv Fatheads and have been coming here for nearly 30 years. The Buffalo Chx Sandwich is my go-to. New wrinkle...it was chopped chicken instead of a Chx breast. This was a bit disappointing---it just wanted to fall off the bun.....BUT, the Beasty BBQ sauce is still the bomb and their ranch is a nice compliment. I sat at the bar...service was good. I hope they go back to asking it a breast

Yelp
We are on a quest to check out some spots that serve wings, so we decided to start at Fat Heads! I know they are mainly known for their beer and their huge sandwiches, but here we are! We arrived on a Friday evening around 6:30 PM. There was a musician playing live music, but they also had bowl games playing on tv too. We didnt make a reservation but was able to be seated in the dining area right away. Our waitress took our drink order- I ordered a ginger ale and my boyfriend ordered the bumble berry beer. We then ordered our food- we split an order or fries, smoked wings with beasty BBQ sauce and fried wings with mild buffalo sauce. We both commented on how good the wings and fries were! Though not known for their wings, Fat Heads got it right! This is a clutch casual spot right in the heart of the Southside!

Yelp
We waited a long time because we landed there on a day they were short staffed and only had one dining area open but it was the whole reason we came to the city so we stayed. The staff were apologetic and quick given the circumstances. The food and beer were delicious, as always. The only disappointment was the smaller menu and the removal of the shroomies, the extensive menu and shroomies especially were the main reason I'd make the trip down for years and tell everyone about visiting there when in town. I think it makes them stand out so hopefully there's a possibility of at least the shroomies coming back in the future! Everything was clean and decorated nicely for the holidays, I'd love to see more merchandise someday. I feel like it's almost always the same and very limited for our location compared to the others.

Yelp
Was told wait would be 45 minutes to an hour. Well, our table was ready in 10 minutes. Service was good. The issue was the burnt crusted potato skins I ordered. A few other items were ordered and when put on the table I thought I'm not paying 13.00 for those. They were so burnt & crusted brown. No orange or yellow to indicated melted cheese. The waitress was great about it, it sure wasn't her fault. She agreed to have them remade. Like 5 minutes later this woman with red hair appeared at the table with the most horrible energy basically talking loudly, boarderline yelling at me about this is how their skins are cooked & I did I not want them. It seemed pretty obvious these were the same skins from 5 minutes ago & if indeed they were not then they should not let food leave their kitchen looking like that. I relayed to her that the ones she had I would not be eating either & she scoffed at me that she's not sure what I wanted her to do since they are cooked in a convection oven & that's how they are served. Look I don't care how they are cooked, I just wanted some ohhhy gooey melted cheese on my skins. Her attitude and the way she approached me was unacceptable. I'm a customer, I was understanding it wasn't the fault of the waitress and simply wanted food that wasn't charred. I'm assuming this woman is a manager and I truly would not want her representing my establishment if a customer asks for food that isn't burnt.

Yelp
Just wanted to say again how rude the people are who work here. Especially if you are over 30.

Dan F.

Yelp
Anita and Dan went today 3-8. We had a truly bad eating experience. the whole wings were over loaded with rub. the headwich bread was stale but the chips and tots were good along with headhunters beer. looks like the restuarant is going down along with the neighborhood Dan Ford Munhall

Yelp
Man, it's been a while (at least 15 years) since I've been to Fat Heads! I was in the Burgh and was heading back to Columbus at rush hour and decided instead of sitting in traffic, get wings. Only 1 place came to mind. Sat at the bar, ordered a Jungle Juice, 10 Spicy Parm and fries. I forgot how much I loved these things! These wings literally set the expectation level for wings my whole life. Large and meaty, just the right amount of heat, and covered in parm. The hot sauce and cheese combined into this addicting and unique wing that only Fat Heads has. The fries were perfectly crispy and the portion was huge. Man I miss this place! I'll have to come back and try the other sauces I used to get.

Yelp
Great spot for a group lunch. We were able to grab drinks at the bar while waiting for our table. Waits can be long, especially during peak times. The workers are always awesome and very helpful with the menu. This place is a favorite due to their GF menu and options.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Fat Heads Saloon. I love their fried pickle chips and buffalo cauliflower bites and all of their beers are excellent. On my last visit, they were out of the pickles so I ventured to try the fried mushrooms. They were just ok. The breading overpowered the shrooms, in my opinion. We ate them all, though, so they couldn't have been that bad! I also tried the imperial bumble berry beer, which was tasty. I'll be back soon to try again to score some frickles!
google avatar

Renee G.

Yelp
I was very disappointed by my meal and beer. The smoked wings tasted like they had been sitting for a while and then reheated. The Bumble berry beer tasted like regular beer just with a few blueberries thrown in it. My friend was equally disappointed with her wings as well. I will not be back.

Yelp
In town for a girl's weekend. This was a great local bar with a large menu and cold beer! We split appetizers...sausage stuffed banana peppers and buffalo wings. Amazing taste...good prices...surprised we were last ones there at 9:20 on a Thursday! Recommend

Yelp
Amazing local bar with friendly staff and delicious food!!! First time visiting Fat Heads Saloon and enjoyed every minute of it. It was trivia night on Tuesday at 7pm and anyone can join the game. Bartenders were friendly and had quick service even though they were very busy. The environment was very causal. They have a wide selection of beers, ciders, wine, and seltzers plus can make any cocktail. I ordered the Caramel onion & mushroom burger with French fries, the meat was cooked just how I like it medium well and the fries were cooked from scratch. They also have flights (5oz each) available for you to try different drinks. Highly recommend if your in the area to check them out! (:
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! Went to Fat Heads tonight and has it changed! They got rid of the fried mushrooms and the fried pickles and shrunk their menu down to 2 pages. The good news is the portions are still respectable. Service wasn't the best either, took a long time to get the beer and the check. They also ran out of the beer I wanted. Disappointed and won't be making the 35 minute trip here anymore. They had a good thing going before and wrecked it.

Yelp
The last visit to Fatheads was in 2003. A stumbling lad who stumbled into this eatery with a silly notion to be quenched. Is it true them damn samwiches is as fat as my head. To my utter joy the cholesterol raced through my veins lubricating all sorts of divine enchantments to the wonders that be still a beating heart. I was alive then and daggonit that Fat Italian sandwich delivered delight. Many moons had passed and in 2025 I found myself in Pittsburgh, PA a stones throw from a mountain of memories. I convinced my wife to let us go and off we went. I entered the establishment that I had been craving for two decades and found myself transported back in time to that season of decadence and delightful abandonment. The sights, the smells, the food oh the fragrance of long forgotten days that began at 7am and ended at 3am. Rested after a night sleep i ordered the Fat Italian once again. My souls thirst had been quenched my deliverer of flavors. The meat so thick, so poignant, so unmistakable Pittsburgh with its bold outpouring of a simple idea. Work hard play hard live for eternity the yokes removed from my tastebuds. The hard boiled eggs perfectly light and fluffy with texture. The rosemary mayo an ode to herbology. Maybe I was a small town girl on a Saturday night dancing like a maniac 20 years ago but here at a proper lunch hour I sat back and feasted and relived that small little portion of a time travelers fable where I touched that time long since forgotten and enjoyed this treat as time stood still. Fates abatement struggles to endure but I am nothing short of satisfied that like the very blessed union of our souls this establishment endures! I did get too excited to eat it that I forgot to snap a pic. Dream on dr

Yelp
Food: all the food was excellent. We had the Pittsburgh salad, the pastrami and sauerkraut sandwich and I snuck some kids' pierogis off their plates. The beer selection is great and has a wide variety of types of beer. Service: we went at about 2:00 on a Thursday so we had the place to ourselves. Attentive staff. Ambience: nice pub style environment. A very Pittsburgh ambience. Good spot for kids too.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in the city I somehow forget about! Portions are huge so be prepared. While the sandwiches are what they are known for, I always get the whole wings. They melt in your mouth and always hit the spot. The draft list is unrivaled as a great place to grab an out of the box beverage. Check em out!

Zachary H.

Yelp
Talk about a fall from grace. They have absolutely gutted the menu, down to 2 pages. None of the classics made the cut - no cheese curds, no frickles, no arrogant onion rings. What food remains is standard fare you can get anywhere pretty much. Service is god awful too - they had 4 waitresses and only the small back dining room open, and my waitress checked in on our table once - then we waited literally 35 minutes to ask for the bill, 10 minutes to get it, then another 10 to pay. No clue what's going on, but I doubt this place will still be open in 2 years at this rate.
google avatar

Yelp
What can I say about this Pittsburgh institution that hasn't already been said? They'd been around since the 90s and have stood the test of times. They've watched all the bars and restaurants around them change hands and names multiple times. If you're looking for a humongous sandwich that is delicious and you'll have a hard time finishing, than this is your spot. They've always got an insane beer selection and their bartenders make some pretty interesting cocktails as well. Drop in to watch a game or just chat with friends at the bar. It's always a good time at FatHeads!

Yelp
First time ever at Fat Heads. Was not disappointed. Little bit of a wait, but helped myself to a nice cold Crumble Berry beer while waiting for our table to be called. Tried the Expert Pastrami Headwich and it was great. Huge sandwich stuffed with pastrami, hot sausage, egg, onion, pickle, etc. Had a side of fries with some spicy ranch which was tasty as well. Overall, great dinner. Great service. Our waitress Gia was amazing especially with how busy it was! I will be back Fat Heads...
google avatar

Valerie V.

Yelp
Large portions, fast service and casual atmosphere. Food is consistent and they offer many options.
google avatar

Samantha G.

Yelp
We were underwhelmed. Our server was nice and attentive. But another server was rude. The food portions were quite large. The best thing we had was the onion rings. The salad was good, but I didn't care much for the chicken. It's a dive-y spot with a plentiful menu of drinks and food. I think we were just there on the wrong night and didn't order the best from their menu?
google avatar

Ross W.

Yelp
Italian hoagie and burger and fries were really good! The chips didn't seem like there was any salt in them so they were a little disappointing unfortunately. Service was good and we were seated immediately! Noise levels were good inside and the interior was a saloon atmosphere.

Bret R.

Yelp
Service and timeliness with very few customers. My family of 6 waited for a little over one hour to be seated then left 1.5 hours later, so 2.5 hours total. The food was very good.
google avatar

Ralph H.

Yelp
On this visit there were 9 of us and the female server was jumping like an elf at Christmas. Oh wait it is Christmas so obviously the service was impeccable and the food was equally as great. I had the Steak hoagie and it was loaded with peppers of all varieties. The mushroom appetizers were decent but the loaded fries more than made up the difference. I absolutely highly recommend this warm and comforting establishment in Sus side part of Pittsburgh.
google avatar

Gianna W.

Yelp
Second time reviewing this place! So so good!!! I go here very often. Very gluten free friendly!!! My new go to is the smash burger and fries with their homemade ranch. So great, so fun! 10/10, you need to go!
google avatar

Lamara S.

Yelp
I love fatheads burgers and chicken. I've been going to this place since I was a kid. Nice to see they never fell off and the service holds the same quality standards they've always held. It still has the same old school bar feel like the early 2000s. I can't believe it's like a great part of my teenage years that never change.
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
If you want a beer and some bar food and are in the Southside, I think this checks all the boxes. But overall, beer is fine and food is fine. Came for a late lunch so we just shared a few apps. Can't really go wrong with a pretzel, typical cheese and mustard sides. The fried pickles were a little breading heavy, so couldn't really taste the pickle. But the wings! Those were pretty darn good. And the dry rub with the original sauce on the side is the move!! The original sauce might've been the highlight! Typical bar vibe and service was quick for the time of day.
google avatar

Kayden R.

Yelp
Very good food with decent prices and wait times. Food was fresh and not greasy. Ambience was amicable, would recommend.

Morgan M.

Yelp
Quesadilla was huge and delicious -- definitely ate myself into a food coma. Drinks were tasty and fairly priced. It's a small spot, so we waited about 45 minutes. Our server was amazing with great recommendations. Overall really solid, just wish the wait wasn't so long.
google avatar

Julia E.

Yelp
Always have a great experience at Fatheads. I came for lunch mid week last week for what felt like the first time in forever. I ordered the mild buffalo wings for an app and then the bumble berry chicken salad for my entree. Everything was SO good. I definitely want to come back for lunch, so much less crowded than dinner time and everything came out quickly. My mouth is watering thinking about those wings. I will be back!
google avatar

Humphrey F.

Yelp
I shared smoked wings and fried wings with my friend, I enjoyed Mark's mighty fine bovine Headwich with satisfactory amount of beef, I also ordered Southside slopes, original cheesesteak and divine swine for take-away. The variety of sandwiches or headwiches are more than you can shake a stick at, the amount of each serving with the side is worthy of the price. The only flaw is the slow service probably due to the popularity.
google avatar

Owen R.

Yelp
E CARSON classic Since 1992 Worth the effort for solid beers, sandos, and salads.....
google avatar

Rebecca M.

Yelp
Fat Heads is such a staple of Pittsburgh, specifically the South Side. Parking is always such a pain, but I love that there is a public paid lot directly across from Fat Heads, one less thing to worry about! For a Friday night there was no wait for our table for 2. Although busy, our food and service was on point. Our server was awesome, and we couldn't have been happier with our food.
google avatar

Joseph B.

Yelp
This is literally one of my favorite places on earth. Excellent beers, sandwiches, and service. Fat Heads is a Pittsburgh staple, so get in here! Yep
google avatar

Reuben M.

Yelp
The Headwiches are ok. They were out of banana peppers, and wouldn't serve the double d without the peppers. Bummer! So me and my son got a similar sandwich - sliced steak with veggies and cheese. I got mine topped with a fried egg...which makes just about any plate better. We also got a few pints of beer. Overall, I would say it's about the ambiance and a place for good bar food. We went in on a Saturday, so there was a big college game day crowd. The service was pretty slow. I'd go again just to drink pints and hangout.
google avatar

Julia B.

Yelp
It turns out Primanti's isn't the only popular Pittsburgh spot for giant sandwiches! I got the bourbon blue burger which was pretty decent (as far as bar burgers go) and a huge portion. The fries were also thin, crispy, & salty (which is how I like them). As a group, we started with the shroomies appetizer (essentially, fried mushrooms with a horseradish sauce). While nothing fancy, they were quite good! And again, an absolutely giant portion. Where I will say Fatheads is lacking is in the service. They weren't very busy, but the waitress still completely forgot about our drink order for over thirty minutes and food took a while to come out. Despite that, I felt very rushed with my meal (I only had finished about half my burger & a third of my beer when the waitress came around trying to give us boxes), which is an extreme pet peeve of mine when dining out. The highlight for me was that they randomly had the Westminster Dog Show on TV (anyone who knows me personally will know I love watching that!). Overall, it's fine bar food with a decent beer list (all at a reasonable price) but bad service. I would maybe go back and sit at the bar for apps/drinks vs relying on wait staff, but I think there are definitely better options in Pittsburgh for similar food. Food: B- Drinks: B Service: C Ambiance: C

Dan G.

Yelp
Went for dinner and the GF Codfather didn't disappoint, even threw in a gluten free Ghostfish Brewing Company beer. I can't tell you the last time my wife had either of those out! She has celiac and is super sensitive and didn't have any side effects, even today!!
google avatar

Tito K.

Yelp
We hadn't been to Fat Heads in some time. This place is really good though. It has a fairly central location in Pittsburgh's Southside section. It has some decent seating sections and a nice bar. The food is really good. Our group has a mix of salads, wings, and of course their huge Head which, sandwiches. The beer line is really good also. Headhunter, Bumble Berry, and Holly Jolly are my favorites.
google avatar

Greg S.

Yelp
My favorite eatz in the Burgh for sandwiches, well Headwiches, and burgers. They have it all, from apps, to handhelds, a huge menu, and its all yummy! Today, I got the Triple Bypass burger, Cheddar, smoked brisket in Beasty BBQ sauce and a sunny egg. Doctor recommended! No need to describe it, if you love burgers, you'll live this one. With battered fries on the side, which are crunchy, and delicious, another great eating experience was had.

Amanda C.

Yelp
We use to go here for years. We moved to Columbus Ohio in 2019 and decided to drive 3 1/2 hours to our once favorite place for lunch. Sadly it's not the same AT ALL! We were so disappointed. First the menu is a fraction of the old. They don't serve any of the old burgers only a couple smash burgers. The fresh cut fry's , fried mushrooms all gone. We had a mushroom Swiss smash burger. It was not bad but they out a ton of arugula on it. We also ordered the pierogies and potato skins they were way over cooked and cold. The potatoe skins looked like they made them two days ago and heated them up in the broiler. The cheese was hard and over cooked yet cold. The waitress was ok but she was not friendly. She did mention the place had downsized the menu dramatically in the past months. This was a place in the past that you had to wait for an hour to get in because it was so popular. Now half the dining area is blocked off because they are so dead. It's very sad to see a one time staple to the community fall apart.

Jaren J.

Yelp
Food was really good. I was bummed I couldn't get the Codfather so I ordered the house smoked whole wings and the Pittsburgh salad instead. Don't get this salad if you're counting calories it's got cheesy French fries on it I ordered takeout so it wasn't as fresh when I got to eat it so I'm sure I'd give 5 stars if I ordered and ate at the restaurant. I will order from here again!
google avatar

Meghan M.

Yelp
We love Fatheads. They have so many celiac friendly options. Nothing like a burger and fries to finish out the weekend.
google avatar

Suzan H.

Yelp
Love it. Always consistent. Great wings, burgers, appetizers...the works! Great casual atmosphere. Easy in/out for takeout. Enjoy sitting inside or out on the patio. My go to are the wings and the fried pickles! It's a great place for groups that have a lot of folks with varying tastes. Everyone should find something on the Fat Heads menu!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great local brewery with some good beer and great food. We found them via Yelp and joined the waitlist at 4:36pm. At that time, the waitlist said it would be about 44-57min before we were seated. We were across town so weren't worried about it. We got there around 5:12pm and checked in. We were told we would get a message when our table was ready. We were able to sit and waited. Normally we would have gone to the bar to wait but there was no room up there as it was after a early hockey game at PPG arena so the place was packed!! We were not seated until closer to 6:10pm and i'm glad I kept an eye on the waitlist as when were showed as fist, we never got a message or call saying we were up. When I went up and asked about it, the seater asked if I had checked in when we arrived (which I confirmed we had an hour ago when we first arrived). We were sat immediately after in a room behind the bar area. The menu that yelp showed was not accurate compared to what was given to us. Far more options available then when you just look at the menu online. We opted for the Cajun ranch rubbed fried wings and an order of the Pierogies. The wings were crispy goodness and a nice great with the Cajun spice. The pierogies were good, but cooler, temp wise, then I anticipated. We tried a few beers, the red ale known as Little red rooster, the brumble berry (heavy blueberry brew) and the crumble berry (Notes of Madagascar bourbon vanilla and cinnamon). All were very tasty. I actually opted for two crawlers of the crumble berry to go back to FL with us as I liked the smoothness of it.
google avatar

Dani J.

Yelp
It's been awhile since I've been here but I feel like it takes all crowds and not just people in their 20s. I remember their appetizers being great and their drinks having a high percentage of alcohol and they were able to comfortably lay for our large party.
google avatar

Carly B.

Yelp
Food and service was great! I've been here a few times as well. I'm not a beer person but my friend loves their selection.
