Niagara Just Became a Serious Culinary Destination

"Led by Chef Zach Smith (formerly of Bar Raval and Meat and Three), this restaurant embraces whole-hog, nose-to-tail cooking—slow-roasting whole pigs on an Argentinean asado grill and showcasing substantial charcuterie like lonza, coppa, mortadella, and ’nduja. Steaks are aged in-house for pronounced flavor, vegetables skew indulgent (for example, an endive gratin with béchamel and Quebec blue cheese), and the lunch menu (served until 4 p.m.) follows the same ethos with items such as a grilled cheese with duck confit and a curried smashburger made from house-ground chuck." - Kate Dingwall

Fat Rabbit in St. Catharines was a win. Sat at the bar and ended up chatting with the chef—always a great vibe when the team’s that involved. Had a few drinks (okay, more than a few) and ordered a mix of dishes. The burger was unreal—beefy, juicy, and packed with flavour. Was a bit skeptical about all the pickles at first, but they totally made sense—cut right through the richness. Tried a few individual cured meats: the house-made summer sausage was my favourite, with the coppa coming in close behind. Also grabbed some Wildwood cheese (not made in house, but absolutely bomb). Finished with the beef tartare, which came with a super creative twist: crispy fried halloumi, raisins, and honey. That mix of salty and sweet hit just right. Service was dope too—got checked on often, and the crew made sure I always had what I needed without being overbearing. Food, drinks, and atmosphere were all on point. A solid 7.9 dining experience. #TomEatsYummyFoodBecauseWhyNot

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon expecting a long wait and we were able to get a table! I’ve had here on my want to try list for awhile and it was SO WORTH IT!! The burger was amazing and the bread was so soft! The whole thing just melted in your mouth! The crispy potato’s were great and we loved seeing a few NA drink options! I was so sad we didn’t have room for dessert but I’m already planning our next trip back! Our server was so warm, welcoming, and kind! I didn’t catch her name but she definitely made our experience comfortable and great! I would highly recommend here!

Incredible from start to finish. Booked via OpenTable. Messaged them to say that we were going to be late due to traffic and they couldn’t be more helpful - and told us not to worry! It was the final dinner of our honeymoon and they went well beyond the service we’d expected. The food was delicious. Definitely deserves their Michelin accolade and 100% worth the detour from our Niagara hotel. Photos are of the mixed grill, burger, summer squash and sticky toffee pudding. But they will live long in our memory without the need for visual reference. The perfect way to celebrate the end of our honeymoon. Thanks team! 🫶

We had an incredible meal and experience at Fat Rabbit. The food was so delicious and beautifully presented. The menu has funky art on it and I love that they promote local. We had a very friendly and personable server. The place has a super cool and casual vibe, plus they had a dog friendly patio which is so wonderful! We took home a delicious loaf of sourdough bread and a doggy treat too! I would highly recommend going and would go again!

Fat Rabbit isn't good; it is extraordinary in every way. The atmosphere is wonderfully non-pretentious. The beverages, including a great selection of mocktails, are fantastic. The food is incredible and every dish was well thought out, well executed, and delicious. Finally, the service makes you feel as if you on a culinary tour that is led by friendly pros who have PhD-level knowledge of their craft. Get there and enjoy!

Google
Great local butcher if you’re after quality meat at a fair price for cooking at home. They have a “dining room” set up in the middle of the shop, with a few extra tables spilling into the parking lot. I’ve eaten there twice and most dishes were good, just nothing spectacular or “Michelin”-worthy. If you’re chasing ambiance, this isn’t the spot—it’s loud and not particularly cozy. Get the meat and cook it at home !

Had an absolutely stellar dinner here. Big flavours, super friendly service, great atmosphere. I know this is supposed to be a meat forward restaurant, but the veg dishes are what really shined. I love that they highlight local, in season production on a frequently changing menu. Portion sizes are also quite generous. Can’t wait to come back.

I truly wanted this to be a 5-star experience, but the FOH completely ruined it. I was visiting family in St. Catharines and brought a group of 4 adults and 5 kids (all under 10). It was pouring rain, yet the staff insisted on seating us outside on the patio, saying all indoor tables were reserved. Given the restaurant’s recent Michelin Guide mention, I was determined to try it, so we reluctantly sat at wet tables in the rain. The food itself was excellent—smaller portions, but spot-on flavors. Hats off to the chef and kitchen team for their execution. Unfortunately, the service was another story. Our server showed little professionalism or awareness of the situation. He repeatedly checked in, asking if “everything was okay” while we were literally drenched and trying to finish our meal. When I pointed this out, he disappeared and never came back. I’ve never encountered this kind of disregard for guests. The industry has suffered enough through the pandemic and is now in recovery, restaurants that make it onto the map should prioritize care and respect for their diners. Sadly, the FOH here failed on that front. Great food, but service and hospitality were shockingly poor.

Yelp
Awesome breakfast sandwiches! It hasn't been open very long this place but it has created a buzz. It's a butcher/ restaurant, that's not on the cheap end. The service was great, the wait staff were really friendly. We ordered the breakfast sandwiches, the sausage and the peameal bacon. The sandwiches were sooo good! The egg was perfect sunny side and the sauces on it, had a sweet and hot spice. We loved them. We will definitely be back to try more things on the menu. The burger looked crazy good!! The space was nice and bright and open. They did a great job with the space.

Yelp
Wonderful Michelin recommended spot in St Catharine's. What we loved: - it's a butcher (you can pick up things to cook at home) - it's a restaurant - supports local - fantastic selection of meats and cheese for charcuterie boards - you pick your own cut of meat and they cook it how you want. - sides are great for sharing. Things to know: - Parking is a challenge - apparently they have overflow one street over. Ask for directions. - Not a ton of seating so reserve well in advance. - if you want to go with picking a cut of meat (like steak) to enjoy, count on $$$ - $$$$ Wonderful meal though! Vibe is casual - it's all about the food!

Yelp
Really wanted to try their dinner menu but their daytime menu will do (for now). Their kale caesar salad is amazing. Same with the crispy potatoes but $16 is wild to me. We had the porchetta sandwich and cheeseburger to share and the one thing that I find unappetizing is the pickled eggplant in the porchetta sandwich. We didn't have room for dessert but the grilled peaches funnel cake would've been my choice.

Yelp
Only open 3 weeks and read some great reviews. It's a restaurant/butcher shop. I know, weird, but it works when they explained the concept. Came for lunch and oh wow, oh wow. Tapas style eating for the most part but the dishes were tremendous in flavour, portions were decent and we chose from most of the categories as there were 4 of us. We had Olives, not your run of the mill; samosas came with the beef tartare, blue cheese was so creamy, the beef short ribs were succulent and so on. The 2 "foodies" exclaimed that they would drive here (2hours) just to eat here again. Not inexpensive, but the flavours, the sauces and the quality is amazing. Glad it picked St.Catharines as home.
