Niagara Just Became a Serious Culinary Destination

"Led by Chef Zach Smith (formerly of Bar Raval and Meat and Three), this restaurant embraces whole-hog, nose-to-tail cooking—slow-roasting whole pigs on an Argentinean asado grill and showcasing substantial charcuterie like lonza, coppa, mortadella, and ’nduja. Steaks are aged in-house for pronounced flavor, vegetables skew indulgent (for example, an endive gratin with béchamel and Quebec blue cheese), and the lunch menu (served until 4 p.m.) follows the same ethos with items such as a grilled cheese with duck confit and a curried smashburger made from house-ground chuck." - Kate Dingwall

We had been eyeing this restaurant for a while, always noticing how many people were dining there. When we learned it was Michelin-listed, one of our foodie friends made a reservation for all of us to go together. The atmosphere was wonderful, and although the dining area isn’t large, it felt cozy and perfect for enjoying the food and service. We loved how high their standards are for ingredients. Even with our group’s different tastes, every dish was beautifully prepared and easy to enjoy. The juicy, perfectly cooked steak, the fresh and refreshing appetizers, salads, and side vegetables were so well balanced. The seafood was sweet and tender, and the bright, flavourful sauces really stood out. The two desserts at the end were the perfect finish—absolutely delicious.

Oh yea! This place hit the spot after a day wondering around Niagara. We tried to order as much as we could eat and we devoured everything! Started with some charcuterie and the meats and cheeses were so fresh but the truffle salami was the standout! The Nduja Rosa Rigatoni was perfectly cooked and the flavour layered very nice with the steak. We got the 100 day dry aged striploin and it was fantastic! If you’re only going to order 1 side then let it be the delicanta squash! This was 1000/10 you will not be disappointed! Ended our dinner for what was the best dessert we have ever had, the sticky toffee pudding. We also got the carrot cake dessert as we love carrot cake and while it was an amazing carrot cake we have to admit, the sticky toffee was just out of this world!! A must try if you’re in the area! And 20% the freezer section when you dine in, we took home some jerk sausage. Can’t wait to try!

Fat Rabbit - St. Catharines Tried: Beef Tartare, Crispy Humboldt Squid, Cheeseburger, Rib Steak, and Crispy Potatoes The beef tartare was a standout.fresh, balanced, and beautifully presented over crisp fried flatbread. Every bite had a mix of texture and flavour that just worked. The cheeseburger was amazing.juicy, layered with gruyère, caramelized onions, and dijonnaise, easily one of the best burgers I’ve had lately. The rib steak was cooked perfectly, juicy and flavourful with that deep, smoky char that shows real skill in the kitchen. The crispy potatoes were golden and light with 2 special sauces , a great side to everything. The squid was fine, but didn’t hit the same high notes as the rest of the dishes. Overall, Fat Rabbit nails the balance between comfort food and fine-dining precision. Great atmosphere, thoughtful plates, and everything feels made with care. Definitely worth the trip to St. Catharines.

Came with my little family of 5 and had a fantastic experience. We ordered the cheeseburger, roast beef sandwich, charcuterie for 2, crispy potatos and French onion soup. Everything was great and just the right amount for us (2 adults and 3 kids). My only thought would be the French onion soup, while the size of the bowl is fantastic, it is alot to get through. A slightly smaller size would be just right. Otherwise, looking forward to my next visit. Also, I generally hate pickles but their in house pickles were absolutely out of this world for me. Would love to have the option to be able to purchase them.

Had a great experience at Fat Rabbit lastnight. Service was on point and very attentive. Porterhouse steak was cooked perfectly. A nod to the summer slaw and squash dish, both were excellent. We celebrated a birthday and there was even a birthday card waiting for us at our table! A nice little touch to make the night even more special. Thank you so much for the great hospitality. We will definitely be back.

Fat Rabbit in St. Catharines was a win. Sat at the bar and ended up chatting with the chef—always a great vibe when the team’s that involved. Had a few drinks (okay, more than a few) and ordered a mix of dishes. The burger was unreal—beefy, juicy, and packed with flavour. Was a bit skeptical about all the pickles at first, but they totally made sense—cut right through the richness. Tried a few individual cured meats: the house-made summer sausage was my favourite, with the coppa coming in close behind. Also grabbed some Wildwood cheese (not made in house, but absolutely bomb). Finished with the beef tartare, which came with a super creative twist: crispy fried halloumi, raisins, and honey. That mix of salty and sweet hit just right. Service was dope too—got checked on often, and the crew made sure I always had what I needed without being overbearing. Food, drinks, and atmosphere were all on point. A solid 7.9 dining experience. #TomEatsYummyFoodBecauseWhyNot

Google
Incredible from start to finish. Booked via OpenTable. Messaged them to say that we were going to be late due to traffic and they couldn’t be more helpful - and told us not to worry! It was the final dinner of our honeymoon and they went well beyond the service we’d expected. The food was delicious. Definitely deserves their Michelin accolade and 100% worth the detour from our Niagara hotel. Photos are of the mixed grill, burger, summer squash and sticky toffee pudding. But they will live long in our memory without the need for visual reference. The perfect way to celebrate the end of our honeymoon. Thanks team! 🫶

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon expecting a long wait and we were able to get a table! I’ve had here on my want to try list for awhile and it was SO WORTH IT!! The burger was amazing and the bread was so soft! The whole thing just melted in your mouth! The crispy potato’s were great and we loved seeing a few NA drink options! I was so sad we didn’t have room for dessert but I’m already planning our next trip back! Our server was so warm, welcoming, and kind! I didn’t catch her name but she definitely made our experience comfortable and great! I would highly recommend here!

Yelp
Awesome breakfast sandwiches! It hasn't been open very long this place but it has created a buzz. It's a butcher/ restaurant, that's not on the cheap end. The service was great, the wait staff were really friendly. We ordered the breakfast sandwiches, the sausage and the peameal bacon. The sandwiches were sooo good! The egg was perfect sunny side and the sauces on it, had a sweet and hot spice. We loved them. We will definitely be back to try more things on the menu. The burger looked crazy good!! The space was nice and bright and open. They did a great job with the space.

Yelp
Wonderful Michelin recommended spot in St Catharine's. What we loved: - it's a butcher (you can pick up things to cook at home) - it's a restaurant - supports local - fantastic selection of meats and cheese for charcuterie boards - you pick your own cut of meat and they cook it how you want. - sides are great for sharing. Things to know: - Parking is a challenge - apparently they have overflow one street over. Ask for directions. - Not a ton of seating so reserve well in advance. - if you want to go with picking a cut of meat (like steak) to enjoy, count on $$$ - $$$$ Wonderful meal though! Vibe is casual - it's all about the food!

Yelp
Really wanted to try their dinner menu but their daytime menu will do (for now). Their kale caesar salad is amazing. Same with the crispy potatoes but $16 is wild to me. We had the porchetta sandwich and cheeseburger to share and the one thing that I find unappetizing is the pickled eggplant in the porchetta sandwich. We didn't have room for dessert but the grilled peaches funnel cake would've been my choice.

Yelp
Only open 3 weeks and read some great reviews. It's a restaurant/butcher shop. I know, weird, but it works when they explained the concept. Came for lunch and oh wow, oh wow. Tapas style eating for the most part but the dishes were tremendous in flavour, portions were decent and we chose from most of the categories as there were 4 of us. We had Olives, not your run of the mill; samosas came with the beef tartare, blue cheese was so creamy, the beef short ribs were succulent and so on. The 2 "foodies" exclaimed that they would drive here (2hours) just to eat here again. Not inexpensive, but the flavours, the sauces and the quality is amazing. Glad it picked St.Catharines as home.
