My manager brought us here to the Schaumberg location for a team building dinner. Since all of them live in the suburbs, we tend to go to places closer to them and their office location. The venue itself was interesting and had a vibrant décor. The outdoor patio looked really nice, but on the day we were there it was too windy for us to sit out.
One the plus side for this place they do have bubbles on the menu. The negative side for me was how close the tables were. Even though a lot of people have moved into a COVID-free mindset, I still practice COVID protocols as best as I can when I am out. But honestly, before COVID I was not a fan of sitting on top of people and this place has tables very close together. We were lucky that the table we had was near the wall and entrance to where the servers were using a POS to enter information. I made sure I had the chair where I could get in and out, but two of the people in my party had chairs right next to the back of theirs. For a Monday night, it looked like a Friday night, the place was packed.
We started with the Guacamole Del Dia (Traditional Pico de Gallo) and Fat Rosie's Queso Dip. The guacamole was the standard fare but the queso was amazing. Never had it prepared this way, taco style queso. It had Fat Rosie's beef diced tomatoes, salsa suiza and cilantro. That I could have ordered as a meal it was so good.
For dinner I got the Tampiquena: grilled skirt steak topped with salsa de Molcajete, plated with one "Enchilada Roja", grilled queso fresco, rajas, Mexican rice & beans, garnished with cilantro, served with a side of guacamole. Very good dish, with a nice blend of flavors, but the portion seemed small based on the price, more like a portion for a lunch menu.
The ladies I was with got margaritas, and I have to say that they were huge. So many places these days are charging you for a large margarita in an 8 or 12 oz glass, but these were what I am used to seeing, in the tradition glasses. All three in my party said they were great, and I have to assume they were since they got a second round. The gentleman waiting on us was very nice and he always checked up on us and asked how everything was.
The one thing I will point out is the ladies' room. I opened the door and immediately went into fight mode because there appeared to be "guy" standing in there with his back to me. Turns out it was a mannequin that "moved" with some sort of motion activated sensor. Once I got over the initial shock and pulled back from whupping that butt, I laughed. Don't know what is in the men's room but would love to know.
Fat Rosie's Queso Dip was amazing but definitely the best part of the meal for me, but don't see myself driving from Chicago to get it. The minute they open a location in Chicago, I will be there, but for now they are all located in the suburbs. The food was good and if you live out that way, don't mind sitting on top of people and the crowd, go for it. If I did live closer, I could see this a take-out place for me or eat at the bar, as there was more space in there.
