Google
I have been going here for years and the food has been consistently amazing. I’ve tried nearly every sushi, however one of my favorite dishes remains the chicken katsu. Can’t go wrong with it.

Google
My favorite sushi place in the city. Good prices for great food. It's usually quiet (a lot of to-go orders) and there's never a wait. The place is cute and feels like a true pasion project of the owner. Never had a bad meal here.

Google
I came here with my sister after she had a hard day to cheer her up. The hostess approached us once we sat down and told us we had to order at the counter and pay first for dine in service we agreed and once we paid we sat down. Another customer who is white finished eating and she brung him a check and he was able to pay that way. She charged me 10% automatically on my card for dinning in as well as my sister. I ordered to go for my husband and was charged 10% on that order. When I paid cash for my daughter dessert she gave me a snarl and said You aren’t going to tip me. After she was playing on her phone she took my daughter mochi out the container in the freezer with her bare hands. I asked her to wear gloves or wash her hands and she and rolled her eyes and continued to bag my food. I will be calling the Health Department as well.

Google
Just had an incredible meal at Fat Salmon Sushi in Hamtramck, MI! The sushi was out of this world and the chef was not only talented, but also incredibly kind. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area!

Google
This is the most friendly restaurant ever they’re Japanese food, such sushi, perfection, and tasty

Google
Went in there and ordered the chicken fried rice , avocado/cucumber vegetable rolls and beef dumpling soup and everything was so good. The man working there was very nice as well ! Definitely would recommend.

Google
Sushi was phenomenal! 🍱 really glad I tried this place out while here in Michigan. Definitely a hidden gem. Tasted fresh and delicious. The vibe in the inside is pretty sweet too. The salmon was the best !

Google
This place made me fall in love with Sushi!! When I tell you that the Mexican Roll was LIFE!! It was good, spicy but savoury.. The Las Vegas Roll was also very good.. I would definitely recommend this spot 🤗

Yelp
The food was good but every thing was taken from a freezer. There were no costumers and waited for 15 minutes I kind of recommend .

Yelp
Great service, yummy food and lots of options! Loved the different types of sushi they had!

Yelp
Little hole in the wall place with interesting decor. The sushi was excellent! The service was good.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place for a while now. I was excited to hear it is Korean owned after noticing kimchi and some staple Korean dishes on the menu as well. I was craving and wanting some kimbap rolls but not after finding out they would be charging me the $10 per 8 piece roll when I don't eat beef. I can buy a fresh 9 piece roll from Kagopa for $3, that's insane and highway robbery to charge $10 for my specified roll. I notice they really get you with their specialty rolls and note there are several rolls where they only come as a 5 piece rolls too, the majority are 8 rolls. I ordered 2 house salads, Mexican roll, sweet potato roll and 3 Cali special rolls cream cheese ($1) and green onion ($.50) added to them. The interior looks rather rough and cheaply done, it doesn't look finished actually. Was told it would take 20 minutes for my carry out order and there's only one sushi chef working and it's a super small station and there was not one customer in the dining area either. Keeping an open mind until I try the food. The ginger dressing is mostly sweet, can't distinguish any ginger flavoring at all. The house salad isn't special at all. The California special roll is nice and creamy, fresh and delicious and so was the sweet potato roll with the addition of the cream cheese. My husband enjoyed his Mexican roll, nice touch with the jalapeño slice on top. I get that people come here for strictly the sushi, that's what they excel at for sure. I would agree their sushi was the best part of the meal luckily.

Yelp
Very affordable good quality sushi, friendly staff, kinda hole in the wall place but I've gone back a few times. Such good food!!

Yelp
Perhaps the greatest find I've had in the last two years. I was in the mood for some sushi and yelped nearby places to midtown. Called and was promptly answered and placed my order. It was ready in 15 minutes. When I got back to the office to eat I was surprised about how much thought they put in a carry out order. The miso soup was wrapped in plastic so it was still hot when I got back to my office. The spring rolls and sushi were well packed and they gave you a small bag filled with your sauces. The food was delicious. The miso soup was filled with tofu and seaweed. My coworker raved about their special California roll and my avocado roll was fresh and delicious. Better yet all of it was affordable. Awesome service, awesome food And I've been back 3 times in a month.

Yelp
This is the first time I've been here and I found them completely by accident! I do like they have a small lobby so not many people can come in. I ordered only five items on the menu that I wanted to try to determine if I was going to return in the future. I ordered the yam yam rolls, and the Sunday morning rolls they were cold but I didn't complain this time. I also ordered the seaweed salad and regular salad Firecracker we and this is awesome . I enjoyed my spicy salmon hand roll. The chicken teriyaki is okay but it's slightly dry but nothing I couldn't handle. Overall I will be returning to this location Little SaladSeaweed SaladYam Yam Roll

Yelp
We were excited to see Fat Salmon was still doing their thing during the age of COVID. And doing it safely! We ordered some of the basics as well as a couple special rolls. They were quick, ready when I showed up, and tasted incredible. They also had some of the best prices for sushi I've seen in the area - rock on! Shout out to small business working their butts extra hard during these wild times! We appreciate you!! Thank you thank you!!

Yelp
I tried Fat Salmon for Valentine's day. I got the Las Vegas roll as I had read so much about it. I wanted to take out 1 for family member and very helpful waitress/cashier suggested Philadelphia roll. Both were excellent. I will return but also will check off 2 other locations on my list for sushi.

Yelp
Another fantastic find of a restaurant in Detroit. I went here purely based off the reviews, and I'm glad I made the decision! I ordered food to go, and i was very pleasantly surprised. The food here is very good and at a reasonable price as well. The tempura rolls are phenomenal. Perfect crunchiness, and so much flavor bursting from each bite with all the different sauces and ingredients. I've realized I'm a big fan of tempura sushi, and this place does it very well. The staff was friendly when I picked up my food as well, and I look forward to trying different rolls here sometime in the future!
google avatar

Yelp
Best veggie spring rolls I've ever had! The udon noodle plate was very good too. Didn't love the ramen because the chicken in it was not seasoned.
google avatar

Rebecca R.

Yelp
I like Fat Salmon Sushi. It's casual, the food is good, the prices are right, it's BYOB and unlike downtown you can get a table on Saturday night. If you aren't looking for a scene Fat Sushi is your spot. Bonus: the bathroom is clean and there is hand soap Recommendation: the ginger dressing is a little too sweet
google avatar

Yelp
Fat Salmon Sushi - yum! This little hole in the wall is staffed by expert sushi chefs and one efficient waitress and delivers up delicious sushi, sashimi, and nigiri, along with udon bowls and bibimbop. For appetizers my party of four had edamame and shrimp dumplings, which were delicious. We all ordered different entrees. My son-in-law got the nigiri, the fish for which were picked for him by the chefs, my mom got the chicken teriyaki roll, my dad got the shrimp tempura roll, and I got the Fat Salmon special. We all loved our orders. And that is saying something with regard to my mom, who doesn't like sushi. I am so happy that Fat Salmon is nearby where I work, I will be taking co-workers there regularly.

Yelp
This restaurant is open for carry out during COVID. I ordered a crunch roll, last Vegas roll, spicy salmon avocado roll, miso soup, and house salad. Every last bute was delicious! This sushi restaurant is also reasonably priced which is a huge selling point for me. I will absolutely be back.

Yelp
I work in Hamtramck and while there are a lot of great places to get food around here, there isn't a lot of options for Asian take out. So I was happy to find out about this spot that has Japanese cuisine! I ordered the Chicken Fried Rice which was great! Really good quality ingredients and it wasn't like some kind of mediocre fried rice that you get at the mall food court. The portion size was also great and more than I was expecting - I love to have leftovers and I definitely had plenty! Looking forward to trying more off their menu in the future!
google avatar

Yelp
This is my #1 favorite sushi restaurant!! I would eat here every day if I could! The staff is so nice and the sushi is so fresh!! Highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Katie Y.

Yelp
They don't season the rice in the sushi rolls. It's disappointing, but they're totally affordable and always fresh. ‍ Also, they're only doing carry out right now because of COVID, fyi

Yelp
Food is delicious and low prices! The service is good and food is prepared quick and fresh.

Yelp
I had higher expectations. The menu I realized had a limited selection of sushi rolls/ special rolls and sashimi. I ordered the shumai 6 piece appetizer and it visually did not look appetizing it literally tasted like it came from a frozen box. The spicy chicken wings tasted much better. Only one server was available helping 3 other tables. We ordered California Roll, spicy tuna and avocado roll were super small. My hand roll the spicy salmon which was $1 less had more fish and tasted great. Their bulgogi entree for $10 was delicious you had a choice of soup or salad and of course rice on the side. We ordered 2 specialty rolls: the joe Campau roll and the Bulgogi roll both did taste great. Here's the kicker I didn't mind waiting for napkins and forks I get there was 1 server but when you were charged .50 for a small amount of siracha that surprised me. The server didn't tell me there would be a charge. It's the service and the waiting and waiting that bothered me. Oh and they don't have soda machines you will receive cans (I didn't mind this at all) I don't think I'll be back yes it may seem cheaper but for the portion size it will adds up. - metered parking .25 = 1 hour.

Yelp
I would give 0 stars if possible Called in to order hand rolls, and asked for no rice. They assured me they could do so, so we ordered 4 hand rolls no rice. Attached is a photo of what we got when we opened the container at home ..... this is a small square to go container for reference Literally the most sneaky and awful thing a restaurant has ever tried to pass off as okay. They charged $7 each for these ... This little box costed $30.... How could you sell this to a customer? Either say you can't do it or get it right. Shoving this in the to go bag and accepting our money was unprofessional and frankly absurd.

Yelp
Great addition to the Hamtramck food scene. My friends have been raving about it for a week, so it became my birthday dinner. K-pop music videos play on a lone TV above the buzz of activity of servers, cooks and sushi chefs putting everything together. The three server girls all helped serve us, were very friendly, and checked on us regularly. I ordered three rolls, all $4 or $5, and Miso soup. My girlfriend got chicken teriyaki as she's not that into sushi. They were great! Good ingredients and well constructed. I loved the spicy salmon roll with the spicy mayo. My girlfriend's teriyaki was great too! Very juicy chicken surrounded by flavorful vegetables. It also came with Miso soup and salad. If you're someone that doesn't like fish, they'll find plenty to like here. There are other options too, like dumplings, bibimbap, and ramen. I'll be back to try them. It's really hard to compare this place to something like Noble Fish, but it has many of its own charms, is much nicer to eat in, and the price is fantastic for the value. Happy to have them in town and I hope they stick around!

Yelp
It's one of those hidden gems in Hamtramck. My god their sushi is so good. I get the Las Vegas all the time and shrimp tempura. They decorate it with grass, it's so cute. The place is okay. Small but very clean and nice people.
google avatar

Karen S.

Yelp
My heart is broken, you stopped selling sweet spicy fried chicken! I had to settle for chicken katsu instead and it was such a disappointment. The prices also went up. The breaded chicken itself doesn't have much flavor. The katsu teriyaki sauce doesn't really go with it. A peanut satay sauce would work better. The chicken lays on top of a bed of shredded raw cabbage that is not seasoned or dressed. An Asian slaw would be so much better. For $12 the chicken with a cup of white rice and pile of raw cabbage was not worth and really boring. I'm broken hearted! The spring rolls were great and the fried gyoza not much... probably won't be back unless they bring back the sweet spicy fried chicken...

Yelp
My friend heard about the new sushi restaurant in Hamtramck, and we definitely had to try it. The Shumai (steamed dumplings) were good but very small in size. The rolls were great. The star was the chili shrimp roll. It's one of the best rolls I've ever had. We also had the yam yam, calamari, and shrimp tempura rolls. They were good also. We also had a couple of fizzy Japanese sodas in melon and original flavors. Service was great and fast. We will definitely return.
google avatar

Maryam L.

Yelp
Excellent authentic Japanese food. The spicy ramen was amazing. The sushi was fantastic and cheaper than any place I've seen (I was weary at first). Parked on the street. Place for busy around 830pm on a Friday. Servers were very nice. Will definitely be back and highly recommend.

Yelp
Bibimbap Pure heaven in my mouth! I love coming here when I'm on this side of town. Quick service too.

Yelp
Best sushi ever! I have tried sushi at many places. By far, this place has the best sushi. I am so glad it's halal and I am able to try all the yummy food. The place is small but clean and staff is great. Food is ahhhhhmazing! I come here all the time!
google avatar

Paula C.

Yelp
Not a fancy restaurant but the food is always fresh and delicious. Sushi, Fried rice, chicken teriyaki and Korean dishes. Large selection and variety of dishes

Poni M.

Yelp
We had been ordering from here pretty regularly because they are available on postmates & we have an infant so being exhausted some days it's just nice to not also have to cook... they have a lot of vegetarian friendly rolls however on the last 3 occasions we ordered, the orders were canceled.. and this wasn't a polite cancel a few mins after placing the order... nay nay... this was making us wait up to 90 mins & expecting the driver on way to pick up...THEN canceling... have your ever ordered dinner at 7:30pm then found out at 9pm when everything is pretty much closed NOW your order is canceled? After following status & keeping your phone close? Fool me once, shame on me... fool me 3 times... loose my business

Yelp
I LOVEEEEDDDD my sushi/sashimi experience at Fat Salmon Sushi. A colleague and I dined on Nigiri, Sashimi, a couple of special rolls and the gyoza (actually.. the gyoza was not a favorite of mine.. could have been because I ordered vegetarian instead of beef? It was also a tad burnt.. BLAH).. the miso soup was also "smackin" that day too. No salty taste as if it's been sitting too long or reheated. It was FREEZING in there, however, but I will chop that up to the space being small-ish and the door literally being only a foot away from the dining area. Oh.. and another very very very very small thing.. I tend to talk fast (a Northern thing?) but am aware of both my tone and speed of tongue when speaking with someone who's native language isn't English.. but MY GAWD.. the person taking our order asked atleast a dozen times to repeat myself.. that annoyed me... but that oh so good buttery fresh fish saved everything! Of all the sashimi I have eaten.. Fat Salmon has been easily placed in my top three! It is convenient to work and I can not wait until I dine here again.

Yelp
This place had great service and the pricing was fair and restaurant has a working class feel. I have the bibimbap and it was good but not the best I've had.

Rabija H.

Yelp
One of the best local Sushi places with affordable prices. Always fresh, always tasty! I wish they worked Sunday's but their other hours are just as great.
google avatar

Rach B.

Yelp
I love Fat salmon! So happy we stumbled upon this place. We go almost weekly. Small menu but a great selection. Fish is always tasty and fresh. Its a small little place, less than a dozen tables. I enjoy the vibe. Staff and sushi chefs are all very friendly. My favorites are the chili shrimp roll, tuna and avocado roll, michigan roll (not on regular menu), and the fire cracker roll. Prices are super beyond reasonable. Fat salmon is in my top 3 favorite sushi places in Michigan
google avatar

Luiz Robertto M.

Yelp
Simple, but one of the best sushi places between Canton and Detroit. Always fresh and well prepared. We really like this place.
google avatar

Razu C.

Yelp
Where was this place all this years I lived in Hamtramck, this is a hidden gem. Walk-in on a very cold Friday night and this place was jamming. Not one open table so sat at the Bar. Ambiance is nice, listening to Asian spice girls on tv while the drinks are flowing n people just having good time. Think it's a BYOB on the alcohol. One server but she was great with recommendation to detail of everything we needed, she was taking care of the whole restaurant(impressive). We ordered everything she recommended, spring rolls, small dumpling, ramen noodle, volcano rolls, spicy tuna, Las Vegas roll is so good had to order another one. Everything was beyond our expectation. Goodbye Ronin, Inyo, sushi gallery, maybe not Mon Jin Lau on Wednesday and Hello Fat Salmon!!!!!! Oh yea their price is below average
google avatar

Adam C.

Yelp
I'm grading this on the Detroit scale, in which everything is given one star more than it would in most locales. This little BYOB small place has a minimalist interior, with a pseudo industrial vibe. The menu is somewhat limited, and many of the rolls on it are very similar. That said, everything was quite good. The wakame was a bit mild, the rolls were priced very well and the flavors all on point. 2 specialty rolls, 2 "normal" rolls and a wakame salad set me back a very modest $32. The staff was attentive and courteous. There were only a few occupied tables, but quite a few takeout customers came in during my meal and they were taken care of promptly. As far as my sushi experiences in the area, this one is hands-down the one I will return to. Next time I'll ask about some new rolls, but even if they can't accommodate, this place is solid.

Yelp
We had seen the signs up for a new sushi spot in the old Rock City eatery windows and were excited to check this place out whenever it was opening. When we caught wind they finally open shop we went and checked them out, must have only been open for a few days. Couldn't have been more pleased, this place is exactly what we were hoping for in a new sushi spot in the neighborhood. The pricing for the quality of sushi you get is fantastic. Service was great, and the atmosphere which isn't much changed from Rock City is still very plesant. We've been back twice since our initial visit and have tried most things on the menu including the Udon and Ramen which were both excellent. Favorite rolls as of now are Yam Yam, Mexican, & Chili shrimp roll. If you're around town I would definitely recommend stopping by Fat Salmon for a roll or 5. Eat Dirt Steve T.
google avatar

Emmanuel H.

Yelp
Favorite sushi place in the neighborhood. You will get alot for your dollar here.A very large menu with alot of goodies on it.
google avatar

Vincent S.

Yelp
Not a top shelf place, but a pretty good place to grab a quick sushi fix. The price was reasonable and the quality was decent. I normally go downtown Detroit to a few other places but decided to try some thing new. Probably will stay with my favorites. Cost was the same, so if you want sushi in hamtramic quickly there's fat salmon for you.
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
I've been twice now, and both times was not impressed. The price is right, the sushi is not. The fish isn't the freshest and the rolls cater to an americanized palate in the most indulgent sense--deep-fried decadence and spicy mayo slathering are par for the course. Service is abysmal. When I'm doing a checkbook-waving interpretive dance through the joint just trying to leave and setting up bento boxes for the staff takes precedence? Not impressed. Wanted to like. Do not. Keep going to Noble Fish, Detroit.
google avatar

Pritam D.

Yelp
I'm a long time resident of hamtramck. Love the food at fat salmon sushi. Bibimbap dish was delicious. Customer service was excellent. Thank you sultana for explaining the menu to us.
google avatar

Josh B.

Yelp
Great little find in Hamtramck. There's a super lack of sushi in the area and this place is definitely the best. Friendly fast service and a nice atmosphere. The Joseph Campau and Mexican rolls are my personal favorites.
google avatar

J S.

Yelp
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Fat Salmon. Thank you for existing in Hamtramck. Please stay forever. Ok, can't go wrong with a youtube playlist of kpop - although if I could put in some requests I'd say more Mamamoo and less Exid, more F(x) and less Blackpink, but hey, not complaining. I highly recommend the bibimbap or spicy ramen. Their miso soup is great (not sure how you mess it up but some places do... this one gets it right). Oh and the little salad thing with ginger carrot 'dressing' on top - YUM it's so tasty. I can't speak to the quality of the sushi because I usually go for one of the two dishes noted above. I mean, you're in Michigan - how good can sushi be? I'd suggest going with the other dishes.
google avatar

Nat Z.

Yelp
Fat Salmon cannot be Rock City Eatery, but the spirit lives on, and the food has never failed to satisfy, offering a full menu of sushi, appetizers (gyoza = delish), noodles (udon, etc.), and other items (the killer Bibimbap, for example). I will also eat them mochi ice cream jawns any day of the week. The fish is solid and service is pleasant, reliable, and fast. Some of their special rolls can be rather excessive-- priced affordably but it's like a giant sushi roll with shrimp tempura and a salmon filet wrapped around the outside and then that is wrapped in scallions and covered in teriyaki sauce and it's really more like a messy sushi burrito at that point-- but I ain't trippin' cause the rest of it's great. Excellent spot for date night, an affordable meal when you're too lazy to cook, or a small to medium-sized group. BYO.
google avatar

Ken M.

Yelp
My wife and I shared the fried tofu appetizer. It was very good. Something we don't typically see at sushi restaurants. I had the Nigiri deluxe. It was very good. However I was extremely disappointed with the size of the tuna roll and nigiri. The roll was the smallest I have ever see. The nigiri piece were also the smallest I have ever seen. I've seen pics on yelp and I don't think the portions are typically small. Besides the smallest portion the food was very good. The main thing that brought me to Fat Salmon Sushi is that it is BYOB.
google avatar

VP L.

Yelp
So my loving wife and I are big sushi lovers And was just starving for some sushi and I must say that this place here is just delicious I had the shrimp tempura and my wife had the Philadelphia which had smoked salmon cream cheese and avocado which made us order some more to go
google avatar

Klaudia B.

Yelp
Delish!! Carried out the yam yam and chili shrimp rolls. The place is super cute with a friendly staff. I will definitely be a regular here :)
google avatar

Ben K.

Yelp
Never knew this place existed, when I went in I learned that it had recently opened, and I am glad I came by. The dine in area is definitely casual and the atmosphere is nice and comfortable. The sushi tasted really fresh compared to most places in the metro Detroit area. The prices were really good too. Very low price for pretty decent quality sushi!
google avatar

Tony H.

Yelp
What can I say.... This place never fails to satisfy. The chili shrimp roll is my favorite.
