Where to Sip Chewy, Fruity, Colorful Bubble Tea in Dallas | Eater Dallas

"This boba chain opened in Dallas in 2002, and has been serving up perfectly chewy tapioca pearls ever since. Choose from premium artisan teas (try the pu-erh for a serious caffeine boost) or fruity smoothies (avocado, obviously) and add tapioca pearls or jellies for the perfect personalized boba tea." - Amy McCarthy

Google
The milk teas are still sweeter even with 50% less sugar, but the mochi Dubai chocolate flavor was the delicious. I didn’t get the chance to take a picture, the kids loved it.

Google
I love the staff in Plano Location, the cashers always help me with every order. The drinks are fantastic I like the happy tea, jasmine tea, green teas, caramel frappes, mangonadas, piña colada, taro, smoothies OMG! all drinks are yummy 🧋🧋🧋 This place have everything & don't forget the mochi donuts 🍩!!!

Google
This location has friendly staff, great service & delicious drinks. My husband and I always look forward to coming here. We can’t rave enough about how great this location is—the people make it awesome. We always choose here for our boba fix.

Google
FAT Straws deserves a five-star rating! They have great boba tea and donuts that are simply delicious. The store is clean, although it's a bit small, but that adds to its charm. The workers are cool and friendly, making the experience even better. This place is where all the OGs hang out, and it's easy to see why. 5 stars!

Came in Saturday morning, I wantsd a caramel frappe but I discovered they put ice cream in it which I can’t eat due to diet restrictions but the guy in the back gave me an alternative to making it with ice cream and he even let me try it to see if I liked it and to my surprise it was still just as delicious! Thank you I love Fat straws this by far my favorite location

Google
I always get their classic milk tea (first choice) and their thai milk tea with stevia. It is seriously the best milk tea flavor I have had! I love that they have a sugar free option and I am not sure what it is about their flavoring but I honestly cannot tell that it has an artificial sweetener in it when I get this version here. They also started making these mochi donuts a few years ago and I must say they are super yummy. The “icing” on top is more like a chocolate texture and when they have special flavors you can really taste it in every bite. They have fast service and I don’t think they have ever given me a single wrong drink order for the many years I have been coming here. Side note: they don’t accept cash so be ready to swipe your card. Highly recommend!

all the drinks were water downed and some were either too sweet or have no flavor. Mochi donuts old and not fresh at all . Staffs not friendly at all.

Google
This is my favorite boba place! My husband and I come here once a week because we love the variety and flavors. The service is very good too

Yelp
I enjoyed the drinks..the drinks are reasonably priced... I would visit the location again.

Yelp
I love this location. It's always clean and fast. I told the lady at the counter that I wanted something different, and she did just that. It was delicious! I love adding boba also. I got the popping boba for my daughter. She really enjoyed

Yelp
Some of the best boba in town! We've been patrons of Fat Straws for a long as I can remember. We love it so much that we even had them cater our wedding. They always have such a good consistency with their boba and the initial sweetness of the drinks are not too bad so not alot of adjustments are needed. They changed their indoor seating after covid but recently added chairs and tables back. Current favorite drink: Mango Strawberry Fresca with boba and mixed jelly The workers are super friendly and always have good suggestions. Shoutout to Carlos and Eddie!

Yelp
Ordered a large passionfruit jasmine fruit tea around 10:30 am, and unfortunately, they had to brew the tea since they didn't have it. It would be nice if they posted that. Service is OK. You are created when you walk in but the cashier's didn't look happy. It's a very small shop with 4 small tables so I wouldn't recommend this place as a hang out spot. There are many bubble tea spots in town so competition is tight but I feel like fat straws got it right as the drink options target Americans.

Yelp
I've gone to this fat straws whenever i'm in the area ever since graduating from HHS. Although the drinks are not the most authentic they have delicious smoothies and slushes. The teas are also refreshing especially on a hot summer day! The service is always quick but the store is pretty small with only a few tables/chairs both inside and out.

Yelp
This Fat Straws was actually the place where I had my first ever bubble tea (years and years ago now) so it'll always have a soft spot in my heart for igniting my obsession with bubble tea. I went back recently and ordered the matcha milk tea. It's awesome that you can customize it to your liking (they have different milk and sweetness customizations available). I got it with coconut milk and no sugar and of course with added boba. It was perfect. The boba especially was perfectly squishy and sweet. Inside the shop they have few tables and plus wifi available, so it was convenient for me to park for a bit and get a bit of work done.

Yelp
We stopped by Fat Straws before dinner as I had the craving for bubble tea. When you arrive at Fat Straws there is plenty of parking in the front. Just a heads up, that this location only takes credit/debit card. When you walk in you place your order at the counter and then there is a waiting area for Fat Straws to call out your order when it is ready. I order the Island Passion smoothie (Smoothie with strawberries and peaches) with boba which was so good and refreshing. I can't wait for our next trip back to Fat Straws.

Yelp
This is the only place I will go for bubble tea. Not only does Fat Straws have the best milk tea and mochi donuts around, but they will do something no one else does. They make sugar-free milk tea and drinks! Not only can you reduce or eliminate the sugar from many drinks (check with the staff to see if your desired drink can be made sugar-free), they will add sweetener such as stevia and mix it in for you. Note that bubbles are not sugar-free. Drinks that can be made sugar-free: Classic milk tea Thai milk tea Chai milk tea Matcha milk tea And of course cold brew coffee and brewed tea. Classic milk tea with stevia is delicious and my family's favorite treat that's also not naughty. You can also buy the milk tea in bulk such as quart or half gallon. Most drink places don't have sweeteners like stevia, and if they do, you have to mix it yourself. Thank you Fat Straws!

Yelp
The best donuts and mochi donuts of all time. . If you are not donut person. try these. they are bomb. Even my friends family in california said this one is better and has texture and nice and chewy. Everytime I travel i always want to bring a whole box back . They close on sundays get it before then if you are visiting. I

Yelp
One of my go to places for Boba drinks in DFW as I had frequently visited the Plano store. 1. Delicious options and flavors for boba tea. 2. Mochi donuts. 3. Ease of ordering online and the option of curbside pickup. 4. Friendly staff. 5. Indoor and outdoor seating where available is very cozy. Will come back when back in the area.

Trruc L.

Yelp
My favorite boba store with the best staff they're always friendly, fast, and courteous!

Yelp
I've come to this location for years - since it opened in fact. Covid changed some things. Maybe for the better. But it has remained the same delicious boba tea. I like to come pick up a donut and a classic tea every now and again. They are consistent. Place is small. But quick to get drinks out the door.

Yelp
We absolutely love Fat Straws! They actually came to my workplace and were selling their delicious donuts and boba tea. I had never had a mocha donut until they visited. My goodness they are amazing! The boba tea was also absolutely delicious. We decided to visit the store last weekend and bought a 6 pack and, of course, some boba tea. My wife enjoyed the latte. The donuts were amazing, especially the Ferraro Rocher. Holy crap! So good. Bottom line, for a friendly, delicious and service-oriented business, there are no better donut shops around. We made the drive from Frisco and will continue doing so!

Yelp
Decided to stop by after our dinner and were happy with our drinks and donuts. The boba was perfectly chewy and delicious.

Yelp
Its been awhile since I went to this boba spot! There's a lot of changes and it's definitely not like what it used to be... maybe i missed the memo? They used to have this matcha milkshake.... I was so excited to come back to Vegas just to have it but I found out their menu is sorta different now? I got the taro-coconut and it was sooooo good. My homegirl and I got the mochi donuts that were advertised! I got the fruity pebbles and she got the cookies and creme. Its not what I expected when I got it... definitely hard donut.. chewy, and cold... and the fruity pebbles tasted kind of stale. Overall, it was okayyyyy. The service was SUPERduper fast. I give them that.
google avatar

Joiya A.

Yelp
Fast friendly service! Whenever and where ever I'm at I have to try a tea spot. While in Dallas Fat Straws won the toss of tea splats to check out. I ordered their Garden of Eden tea with rainbow jelly 4/5 (a little too sweet. I should have adjusted the sweetness) Mango chamoy 5/5 Passion fruit tea (ordered for a friend)

Yelp
Whenever my dad comes to visit me, he always wants an avocado smoothies boba from this place. He always remembers this place, he said the boba consistency is perfect! I cant agree more. Today i stopped by the shop and they had these amazing selection of mochi donuts!!! We bought ube, strawberry, coffee, and pebbles. All of them are so good! My personal favorite is the ube one. The crunchy sprinkles on top are buttery and delicious! It takes this donut to the next level. Very smart combination! Their donuts are soft and perfect chewiness. 100% recommended!

Yelp
Super friendly. Clean place. Great atmosphere. Solid prices. Tasty drinks. So worth the drive.

Yelp
Fat Straws!! How have I not wrote a review for them yet? Atmosphere - 4/5 - It is a typical bubble tea place. There isn't too many places to sit. Staff - 5/5 - Very Friendly. Food/Drinks - What I order / usually order: - Peach slush - 5/5 - This is my go to when I come here. I can drink this all day. Must get - Mochi Donuts - 5/5 - You must get these! So chewy! I will rate the flavors below: 1. Strawberry - The best flavor. Such a strong strawberry flavor 2. Cookies and Cream - I am a HUGE cookies and cream person, but strawberry tops it. I think because the strawberry one has the strongest flavor. 3. Blueberry 4. Chocolate 5. Churros 6. Fruity Pebbles - some bites felt kind of stale though. 7. Pandan 8. Green Tea 9. Black Sesame I haven't tried passionfruit yet, but I will for sure next time. Overall, you definitely need to stop by for the mochi donuts alone. Great place.

Yelp
BEST MOCHI DONUTS!!! Was on vacation to TX and stopped by this place. Donuts were so soft and chewy. My favorite flavor was the black sesame. Would definitely come back next time!

Yelp
Tasted a drink that the wife had here it was good nothing special. The staff was nice and helpful not bad service at all just a mid experience.
google avatar

Yelp
5 stars for the mochi donuts. 3 stars for the drinks. Limiting 3 customers inside for social distancing. I'll start off with the donuts. These were excellent. The airy yet chewy texture is delightful, and it's fun to peel off the individual puffs. Favorite flavors are coffee, black sesame, and blueberry. Pandan coconut tasted like plain vanilla, and matcha was underwhelming. Now the drinks. The taro milk tea with grass jelly was nasty. It tastes extremely artificial and is unnaturally bright purple. The matcha swirl was just okay. Wouldn't get it again. Overall, come here for the donuts!
google avatar

Jenny N.

Yelp
We were intrigued by the name of this shop - my friend even thought they had HUGE straws. They have a big menu that ranges from milk tea to fruit tea to even smoothies. I ordered a green milk tea with boba. There wasn't anything unique about the drink itself but the store was colorful. They had a sign made out of bubble tea straws spelling 'smile' - good photo op.
google avatar

Kirtana S.

Yelp
I come here every time I visit Plano! The chamoy with the mango is absolutely delicious! It comes with a tamarind straw and OMG DELICIOUS. It is the best after bubble tea snack you could get! I also got a matcha donut and it was really yummy. I couldn't have enjoyed it more! The price for the donut was a little expensive but it was worth the money to try it!
google avatar

BiBi M.

Yelp
This is currently my favorite smoothie place. My go to is the strawberry piña colada with strawberry popping. The consistency and flavor is the best. And I also got to try my first mochi donut. I got the strawberry flavor, it was so cute and tasty. It reminded me of a cream puff but better. I will be back to try another flavor of both smoothie & donut!

Yelp
I love this place! I learned about them on the DF-DUB Grub Page on Facebook to help support Asian-owned businesses during COVID-19. There aren't any locations on the Tarrant-side, but they were willing to deliver right to my house! You can message their FB page and they deliver all over the Metroplex. For me, they delivered it right to my door, but for other locations, they will have a meeting point. I got one of their Smile Packs, and it came with a half-gallon of boba tea. I loved their jasmine tea, and am grateful they packed the boba separately so the tea keeps well in the fridge. Delicious mochi donuts! They aren't greasy at all. Pre-ordering is helpful because they sell out of flavors very quickly. I like their bubble shapes because it makes it easy to share the donuts with the kids. They are chewy and they make their fancy frostings inhouse. My absolute favorite was the black sesame, then the passionfruit (delightfully tangy), and the strawberry which tasted lovely and creamy. They have stellar service.

Yelp
My first time trying mochi donuts was in Hawaii and then I had them again in New York. They were both very delicious and fresh. I was very excited to see that Dallas has a mochi donut spot. Sadly, I was disappointed by the quality of the mochi donut here. It doesn't taste fresh and not as chewy as I had remembered it was supposed to taste. Their boba menu also looks very odd - doesn't feel authentic to me. They have many odd boba/tea drink flavor to cater to people who aren't the usual traditional boba drinker. That's how you know it's not a good specialized boba place when they have too many uncommon flavor selections (like pumpkin spice milk?) and all the basic fruit teas and slushy. Their regular drinks felt very syrupy. Would not recommend this place!
google avatar

Alexandra G.

Yelp
This place has been on my list to go to for a while and I finally got to try it out! I got to say there donuts are expensive for just one but really good! I had a Thai milk tea with topiaco boba and it was pretty good! Defiantly will come here again when I am in town!
google avatar

Kacie D.

Yelp
Great quality boba at reasonable prices! Drinks: I really like their Taro milk tea & Jasmine milk tea. Honestly, the boba is near flawless to me. Some days I think it could be cooked a bit longer to achieve that really soft gummy texture, but it's really not that big of a deal. I haven't tried their donuts yet, but they look delicious and I've heard great things about them! Atmosphere: The spot is a bit small, but very clean! Service: I don't think I've ever experienced bad service here. The wait time for your drink is also pretty short as well!
google avatar

Hong L.

Yelp
I originally didn't think too much of this place so I didn't have much expectations, however, the drinks we had were pretty good. We opted for the Watermelon Cooler, Jasmine Tea Infusion, Honeydew Milk Tea, and Avocado Smoothie. They have a Mangonada drink here too which sounds pretty good. I would definitely recommend the Watermelon Cooler if you don't know what to get and it's the perfect refreshing drink for the summer heat. It seems like their most popular drink was the Avocado Smoothie because we saw a lot of people ordering it; I would recommend to decrease the sweetness level for this drink though. Overall, menu was is simple, prices are affordable; and service was fast, so I would recommend it. Check in for 15% off is an added great deal. Interior is pretty small so there is limited seating.

Yelp
So as you know, I like guys with FAT STRAWS When I see a fat straw it makes me TAKE PAUSE They're the only people I let knock at my BACK DOORS Even if a lot of them turn out to be CRACK WH**ES They're the only reason I get down on ALL FOURS Shake it in the air like I'm one of those RAP BROADS I end up with knee wounds, so I buy the WRAP GAUZE Then I go and drown my sorrows at FAT STRAWS WHAT The girls working at Fat Straws are real sweethearts. It's a sweet little place with nice prices, and a very interesting menu. I like their stuff, even though most of it was extremely mild and didn't taste like very much. The milk tea was good but not amazing. The fruit smoothies are pretty good. The coffee smoothie is okay but a little heavy on the coffee. They also need a lot more than the few tables that they have, but I guess there just isn't space for them. Overall it's a good place, and like many of the good bubble tea places in the area, I would give it four stars. And if you have a fat straw, call me.
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
My absolute favorite drinks of theirs are anything coffee-related! I loved the dalgona latte and Vietnamese coffee drinks. They're not too sweet. I also recommend their milk teas, especially the taro and matcha flavors! Hands-down, they have the best mochi donuts in the DFW area. My favorite flavors are strawberry, matcha, and coffee. Their mochi donuts are so chewy and not greasy at all.
google avatar

Adiba O.

Yelp
The service was great-- I expressed that it was my first time and they offered various samples of milk teas so had an idea of what I wanted. Ultimately decided on the classic milk tea and it was delicious! Not too sweet and it hit the spot.

Yelp
Here is one of the long standing bubble tea shop in Dallas! I respect the business owner(s) and team for continuing its work throughout the years! Honestly, I am not sure why I am getting a chance to write a review now after all these years, haha. I thought I already left a review...maybe I did under other locations, oops if I did. I tried many of the classic milk teas and many of the seasonal ones. It is really hard to pick my favorites, but since it is summer... let's go with my summer favorites. I love Fat Straw's Watermelon Cooler. Summer is not IT without some watermelon every week. I also like to add rainbow jelly to the drink! It is a perfect summer drink especially when the temperature peaks to 100s! I have to fight my way to drink milk teas at Fat Straws, however, because my stomach is not happy afterwards (weird...not really lactose because I try bunch of milk tea at other boba shops...it's only at Fat Straws). Also, Fat Straws brought out THE Mochi Donuts to Dallas few years back. I can, for sure, say they have been killing it with amazing new flavors and improvements on its texture! I cannot wait for more new flavors!! Lastly, I have been going during this pandemic and they are doing super well! I especially love the curbside pick-up where I can order through the site and call to pick up my order! Super convenient. If you are in town, please go and grab some mochi donuts and a boba!
google avatar

Marissa T.

Yelp
This review is only on their mochi donuts that was pre-ordered online.. I AM IN LOVE. I had one request during my trip to DFW and it was to try mochi donuts and man oh man these were amazing. Yes $25 is a lot for a dozen, but do not be discouraged it is worth every penny. My favorite was the matcha and salted caramel although the others were also very good. If I could describe the texture it would be a crossover of the Brazilian cheese bread and Chinese donut. I cannot wait to go back and visit the DFW area and get some more. For Fat Straws's mochi donut will be the one I will compare all the other places to as they have set the bar high!
google avatar

Thea I.

Yelp
Came here once and it was really good in my opinion. I love the mochi donuts and the different flavors they got. The boba drinks were very scrumptious as well. I will admit that it is more on the pricey side, just to keep that in mind. But it is very good and I'll probably come here again
google avatar

Shymone B.

Yelp
During my vacation in Hawaii, I tried Japanese Mochi Donuts for the first time at a place called "Mo Do". I've never had anything like it and was determined to find a place in the DFW area that served it. Look no further, the Japanese Mochi Donuts can be found here, at Fat Straws Bubble Tea! What's a Japanese Mochi Donut you ask? The name pretty much explains itself. In a few short words, it's a cross between Japanese mochi and the traditional American doughnut. You get a slightly crispy exterior with a chewy soft gooey interior. AMAZING! The wife and I ordered one cookies n' cream, one blueberry, and a taro milk tea with boba. The donuts themselves were around $2.50 each. Not too shabby. It tasted just like the ones I had in Hawaii! The taro milk tea was solid and the boba had the perfect consistency. This place is pretty legit. In the end, if I'm ever craving a Japanese Mochi Donut, I know where to go. It's about a 40 minute drive from my house, so it will be a once and awhile thing. I guess that's a good thing or else I'd probably be here everyday. Give it a try!

Yelp
5/5 stars purely because this is the place I go to when I'm craving boba. Even with all these new boba shops opening up, Fat Straws is the OG boba shop. They probably stand the test of time alone because of just how tasty their boba is. It's perfectly sweet, super chewy, and perfect every time. Drink wise I would recommend any of their fruit smoothies, it's a combination of real fruit and sorbet. Tea wise classic milk tea is good, or white-tip jasmine if you're looking for something more mild. Service is good and super fast. Tip: Grab one of their gift cards and follow the directions on the back to join their funactics rewards club for free drinks!

Yelp
Been a loyal customer at Fat straws for 17 years now. We make the extra 15 minute drive because we have always appreciated the quality drinks and customer service. Recently, we noticed that they have been inconsistent with the amount of boba that they give. However, what's upsetting is that their one scoop of boba is very little. I can hand count the boba. Since they've been inconsistent/ not giving the amount of boba they used to just a couple of months ago, we left a comment on our online order saying "please give enough boba." The picture below is a side by side comparison of their one scoop. How does one have a semi- decent amount and the other doesn't? The cost of everything is going up and if we are going to be paying for boba, we would rather pay for consistent quality. We are really disappointed in Fat Straws and this will be our last visit.
google avatar

Gabriel W.

Yelp
The employees are really friendly and they were really patient when taking my order. The shop space here is small, however it is kept tidy and there is always enough space to sit because most people just grab and go at this location. I ordered the jasmine grapefruit tea however I felt the sourness was a little too overbearing for the sweetness they put in. I personally love sour drinks however I would maybe get more sweet next time if I choose to get it. I ordered my drink with mango popping boba, however the topping itself it's too big to fit through the fat boba straw they provide. I was left with all of my mango boba after finishing my drink because I was unable to consume them. I had created my rewards account with Tasty cup over 3 years ago and when I gave my number; I was still pleasantly surprised that it went through. To my delight, since my birthday is coming up in less than a month. They gave my $5 off my drink order which was awesome! Overall great service and great system; however I might try another drink next time.

Yelp
We tried Fat Straws for the first time on a recent trip to Dallas. We decided to try the Classic Milk Tea with boba and Peach Passion Slush with lychee jelly. The service was quick and friendly. The taste of the drinks were ok. My husband was not a fan of the Classic Milk Tea, he said it tasted like watered down milk without any tea and the boba was unimpressive. He didn't finish his drink and instead threw it away. The Peach Passion Slush was refreshing and satisfying.
google avatar

Linh L.

Yelp
It's okay. I think the prices are okay but there's better boba options around the area. Not a bad experience but no so amazing either.
google avatar

Meridith B.

Yelp
By far the best boba tea in DFW. The boba are soft but don't fall apart. The consistency is perfect. The white peach is a great option - they freshly brew the tea so it's not from a powder like some places. The liquid jade tea is great too. I love the ability to sweeten it with Stevia instead of sugar too. High recommend this place!
google avatar

Liz L.

Yelp
My daughter n I went for the first time today and I got the Milk Thai Tea w/easy ice and easy boba. They made it exactly as I asked. It was so good. I also had the Rum donut. It was delic. My daughter got the strawberry piña Colada. It was reeeally good. So good that I may pick that next time. The staff was incredibly kind. Cant wait to go back....

Yelp
If boba milk tea underwent cultural assimilation, you would end up with Fat Straws. For Christ sakes, they have a seasonal pumpkin spice milk tea. #whitegirlfavorite Fat Straws brings back very fond memories from high school (10+ years ago). It used to be the only place in West Plano, but now there are so many boba places. But I still like really like Fat Straws and it appeals to both Asians and non-Asians. The milk teas are pretty good, as the tea is strong and the boba is chewy and above average. I'm a big fan of both the Jasmine Milk Tea and the Thai Milk Tea. There are tons of substitutes for the milk (Oat Milk, Almond Milk, other vegan/healthnut/white folk substitutes that I don't care for). I used to always get the mango slushie with mango jelly. It's pretty good although I don't believe they use real fruit. The mochi doughnuts are unique and pretty good, although somewhat expensive ($2.50 for a doughnut). I am a fan of the black sesame, cookies and cream, and fruity pebbles doughnuts. Stay away from the matcha - it lacks flavor. If you are in West Plano, this is the place to be. But if you want the gold standard of boba, go to Onezo on Park. Drive west down park for approximately 10 minutes, and right before you hit 121, it will be on your left.

Yelp
While Fat Straws is neither my favorite boba shop or my go to, I do love coming here for their... mochi donuts!!! Thank you, Fat Straws, for bringing mochi donuts to Dallas. While it's only available on select days, I definitely recommend driving out for them (it's worth). If you go in the morning, they have more flavors but they start to run out the later it gets. I went around 7 PM on a Saturday night and was able to get a matcha, black sesame and a strawberry. The strawberry was just okay, but the black sesame and matcha were absolutely amazing!!! I'm not a big fan of their drinks as I prefer the more traditional boba, but the mochi donuts are so, so worth it!

Yelp
Service is always amazing and fast! My favorite place for boba. Oreo milkshake with tapioca balls is my go to.
