Bend, Oregon’s Best New Restaurants: Spring 2025 | Eater Portland

"Situated in a small strip mall in a neighborhood near Downtown, Fat Tony’s Pizza opened quietly but is now a local favorite. Owner Roberto Cardenas channels his early days when he learned to cook artisan pizza at a restaurant owned by first-generation Florentines. The Caesar salad is a step up from the typical chopped presentation as it’s plated with hearts of romaine leaves. The meatballs are juicy with balanced Italian seasoning seasoned; the chicken fettuccine is creamy and satisfying. And the 24-hour fermented, foldable thin-crust pizza has puffy, chewy edges. The pizza toppings are also upgraded, including fresh mozzarella and basil leaves, prosciutto, and the not-to-be-missed pistachio pizza with pistachio mortadella and pistachio pesto. Tuesday is ladies’ night, and Wednesday is senior discounts. Both offer 50 percent menu discounts. Happy Hour offers $3 wine, beer, and margaritas." - Barb Gonzalez

Google
Everything was delicious. GF pizza was really tasty! Buffalo wings were moist with a great kick! Cesar salad and house made croutons were fantastic! The staff went above and beyond creating a barbecue chicken pineapple pizza for us that was really good!

Matthew K.

Google
Great pizza at great prices, perhaps the best pizza in Bend. Fresh made dressings were a nice touch. Online ordering was fast and efficient. A full bar and a couple beers to quench your thirst. Service was great and friendly. Small seating area with outside seating too. Parking was easy. Prices were great for the quality of pizza. This place is gonna be tough to beat..

Google
We stopped here for a quick lunch and the pizza was sooooo good! A perfect wood fired delicious pizza! We asked how quickly it would be ready and he said “maybe 5mins” and it was out in quite literally 5 minutes! Service is awesome! It’s a great spot! 10/10 would recommend.

Google
This place serves real Italian pizza. The crust is thin, chewy and very tasty. One of the best ways to tell if a pizzeria is any good is to order a marguerite pizza, which many places don't even offer. Fat Tony's does as well as many others with lots of vegetarian / vegan choices. We ordered the "carbonara" which was excellent! Highly recommend this place if you like authentic Italian style pizza. There was one person on duty so she did everything and she did it quite well.

Google
Pizza is solid, can't go wrong with any pie they offer. Good staff, service is solid, and provide quality ingredients. My only feedback is the ceasar salad is rather lacking for the price.

Google
Fat Tony’s was super great. Their sauce is maybe one of the best pizza sauces I’ve had. I had the arugula and prosciutto pizza which was phenomenal. Would recommend.

Ben H.

Google
As a self-certified pizza expert, these folks know what they’re doing. Not the absolute best I’ve ever had but I’d be happy to come back any day of the week! Pictured is the Regina Margherita with arugula. Not pictured is maybe the best Diet Coke I’ve ever had.

Google
The food came out quickly but the atmosphere wasn’t the best. The pizza was flavorful especially the margarita pizza. The crust was perfect but the bottom of the pizza was soggy. The cheese/pepperoni pizza was inconsistent, some pieces were crispy which was great but other slices were super soggy. Overall it was pretty greasy.

Yelp
Was busy tonight and we showed up with ten people and the wait still wasn't bad at all. Wasn't aware you needed to order up front but once we figured that out it was great. Delicious thin pizza with amazing flavor and fresh ingredients. It's kind of an odd location and prob more of a local gem

Yelp
When we showed up, there was a huge crowd of people outside. Barely anybody seated inside so we decided to grab one of those tables. I was excited because I'm imagining this is going to be a really good spot, it seems to be a local hangout for Sundays. The girl helping us was nice and friendly, was happy to make recommendations. I went with the meatball appetizer, the Caesar salad and margarita pizza. My expectations fell short, unfortunately with the food. The sauce on the meatball appetizer was amazing, but my actual meatballs were overcooked, like they were at the edge of the pan, and they were kind of hard. The Caesar salad salad was unremarkable and the four giant croutons on the plate just seemed like chunks of garlic bread. The pizza had a nice flavor and the crust was crispy, but for what it cost, there was not much to it. It took us a while to get anybody's attention to get some Parmesan cheese for the table or a refill on soda. There seemed to be a table that came in with an influencer or it was a marketing shoot maybe, everybody seemed to be very distracted, taking stuff out to that table and there was a girl posing for pictures with all the food. I'm all for influencer marketing, but I do feel like some of the other customers may have been neglected while that was going on.

Yelp
First experience was very good. The pizza was among the best I've tasted. Second experience was horrible. I called pizza in 20 minutes ahead. Upon arriving I was notified it was a 30 minute wait. After a half hour the employee notified me the "ovens were down". When I asked what exactly that meant she called a guy out. I assume he is the owner/manager. Without really saying anything he allegedly reversed the transaction. He didn't apologize or offer any compensation for the inconvenience. The ticket only reflected the price of the pizzas I didn't receive and not the 20% gratuity I had added. I contacted the owner after the transaction cleared and the money was deducted from my account. It has been 10 days and I still haven't been refunded. The pizza is amazing but the customer service not so much. It is disappointing because I want to love this place but they're making it difficult.

Yelp
Very good home made pizza and legit crust. Service is very good, ambience is local/local. We'll go there again to watch an NFL game as they have a lot of TV's.

Yelp
Always a must stop when in Bend. Usually get a pizza when we come in. Pizza quality is always on point with quality ingredients. This is a must try pizza stop. This time we tried the Diavola, pretty spicy. A little bit more spicy than we anticipated but still really good. Service is always quick and friendly. Other than pizza they also sell pastas and have a full bar. Look forward to coming back in the future.

Yelp
Fat Tony's was awesome. Great hospitality, friendly, fast, delicious food! This place has all the Ingredients for a wonderful meal! Would highly recommend this establishment. Loved the music- owner was SO nice! They accommodated our big group with an open arms! Thank you so much for a great experience! Chef's Kiss!!!!

Yelp
We stopped in for a pizza and oh my goodness I will have to say our pizza was the best I have had in Bend! The flavors were perfectly blended and the crust, thin, crispy and delicious! The meatballs were also very good! The salad was very fresh! I highly recommend going here for your next pizza!! It's the best in Bend!!

Yelp
Disappointed and Surprised I had high hopes for Fat Tony's after seeing so many glowing reviews and finally decided to stop in since I drive by often. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. The pizza tasted like it was made with canned sauce and overly commercial cheese--nothing stood out. I'm honestly not sure where all the positive reviews are coming from. For the price, I expected something memorable, but everything was just... blah. I would've been more satisfied with Mod Pizza at a fraction of the cost.

Yelp
Food was amazing, service was ok the guy was super busy and was alone. Love the put door seating it does need more tables with umbrellas .

Yelp
Our usual favorite pizza place closed early, so we decided to branch out. Well, we have a new favorite! We ordered a prosciutto & arugula pizza and a pepperoni. Sadly, photos were not taken, but we will be back next time we drive through Bend. Our take-out order was hot & ready as promised. Crust chewy, perfect thickness, wonderfully fresh tomato sauce on the pepperoni, yummy curled little discs of deliciousness! Arugula & prosciutto pizza was generously adorned. The house salad was absolutely fresh, crunchy, and tasty! I could not tell that they'd dressed it until taking a bite. Next time would get the dressing on the side, but would probably order an extra quart of it! How can a vinaigrette be so good!???? Photos next time!

Yelp
Visiting the area, playing tourist and pizza was tugging at our growling tummy and tastebuds so stopped here at this local's hot spot. Really really good pizza! Hand-tossed dough even. Pretty impressive when scissors are served to cut the pizza! They say- "Italians do everything better, including cutting pizza with scissors!" The chef offered the hot honey to top off the pizza pie and ooh-La-La! What a perfect compliment to the slice.

David N.

Yelp
Looking for something to eat, I stumbled with this place. Staff was very friendly and the pizza here is amazing. I wish the rest of my family would be here to enjoy it like I did. Definitely returning if I'm in town again.

Clark R.

Yelp
Don't go anywhere else...off the chart pizza, wings were spicy, and even the salad was fresh and tasty. Easy counter ordering - they brought a bottle of decent Chianti to us. It's pizza in the USA not Italy- if you're looking for ambience go to Napoli- not Bend. Enjoy!!!

Yelp
this was amazing !!!!!! we were in bend for the weekend and looked up best pizza in bend, although this came in like 5th or 6th on the list, i think it should be first! amazing italian wood fire pizza. we got a few marg pies & a diavola and it was so amazing! we also grabbed some drinks while waiting for our pizza and they were great. if you like spicy... the diavolo is extremely spicy and amazing!

Michele D.

Yelp
We have spent five nights in Bend in the past year, and have eaten Fat Tony's for four of them! The pizza is tasty with a nice chewy crust and good amount of toppings. Prices for the pizza and drinks are reasonable. There are a few tables both inside and outside, and when the outside tables cannot be used, it does get noisy and crowded inside. If we return to Bend, we will definitely be back!

Yelp
A little hole in the wall in what doesn't even qualify as a neighborhood strip mall, yet there it is - a super pizza. Out of towners passing through, we look for pizza on Yelp. People seem to like it so we go on a cross town adventure. The place appears a little sus from the outside. Inside there are five or so tables and clearly there's more take out going on than staying there. Phone ringing constantly, streams of people taking out stacks of pizza boxes; Door Dash coming and going. We order from a super friendly, high energy guy, thinking with all the commotion our dinner will be delivered to our table in an hour. In a very reasonable amount of time, a delicious green mixed salad appears with yummy Italian dressing. Then comes our pasta bolognese, which we split, along with the garlic bread which was buttery delish, and last a Margherita pizza. To my mind, unexpectedly and indescribably good. A crisp crust with loft and chewy goodness after biting into. Not too much cheese. Tasty sauce. Perfect amount of basil. I was so happy. And then we heard our table neighbors say they've been everywhere in Bend and this is not only the best pizza, but the only serious pizza around after declaring Bend a vast pizza waste land. We were so happy we went on an exploration. Had too much food but took with. Because you know, great pizza don't come easy.

Yelp
Simply awesome pizza. Took our family to eat in on our first visit to Bend a couple months ago and everyone was thrilled. Super tasty margherita pizza, the "Al Pastor" with marinated pork, jalapeno and pineapple, and the prosciutto w/arugula were all amazing (reccomend adding hot honey). AND their Gluten Free - Dairy Free was my girlfriend's favorote pizza ever... and MUCH appreciated. Great staff and comfy little neighborhood spot feel too.

Yelp
Kindest man running the place! Super appreciative of everyone who checks out his business! Fun family place. Really appreciated that he wasn't playing any trash on the tv. I actually felt comfortable letting the kids watch it! Yummy pepperoni pizza! Perfect little crispy pepperonis! Thanks for the nice evening Tony!!

Yelp
Hands down...the BEST pizza in Bend! Not to mention the wings and a killer Caesar salad! Happy neighborhood vibe, great music, beer, cocktails, and the greatest service! We LOVE Fat Tony's!
google avatar

Ava A.

Yelp
The wait was so long at Ken's artisan and we were craving pizza so we found this gem. Not going to win any points for ambiance, but if you want a tasty pie, this is your place! We got one with the same combo of toppings as at Ken's (mortadella and pistachio pesto) and then tried the same one at Ken's a few weeks later, and fat Tony's was just as good. Give them a try!

Yelp
Passing through, wanted some pizza for lunch. Rare occasion my wife let me pick my favorite, the Hawaiian. Loved it! Great sauce, great cheese. Last 3 "new to us" pizza joints weren't worthy of a review but Fat Tony's was great, coming close to my favorite-Hot Mama's back home. Service was professional and the César salad was unique in preparation, it also tasted great. Next time we come to town Fat Tony's is the top of the list.

Yelp
We stayed in Bend, Oregon for the night and were craving pizza. And boy, did we got the jackpot! It was around dinner time, so there were a few people ahead of us in line. Once we placed our order and grabbed a seat outside, our beers came out shortly thereafter. We chose to eat outside because as busy as it was inside, it would have felt a little cramped with people waiting in line while we were eating. After not waiting too long, our carne asada pizza came out looking beautiful with nice bubbly crust. The crust was tender, the flavors of the toppings were delicious. Between my husband and I, we easily finished a large pizza. Our server was friendly.

Yelp
Amazing food, great atmosphere, friendly service, quick, and definitely a value! Will be back soon.

Yelp
Great pizzas nice sauce and tasty crisp crust! Very nice meatballs and traditional Ceaser salad, I would recommend and will return for more tasty pizza!

Yelp
We have gone to Fat Tony's twice. We need to come more often! The first time it was so packed and we were able to get seated right away. Our kids loved the pizza, we did too! You have to be here to experience the vibe. It's such a great neighborhood and local establishment. The second time we came, it was in the middle of a snow storm and they welcomed us just like the first time! The food, again, was amazing. The dough is so good! I ordered a mixed drink instead of beer this time and it was so good! The service was great (even though it was close to closing time). I would highly suggest! Keep small local businesses like this in business.

Yelp
I'm not sure that I came on the correct day, but Fat Tony's Pizza special blew my sox off. I missed Pizza Celebration week by one day but they never hesitated served me up the "special" that was over yesterday. It was incredible and unforgettable. The Fat Tony's pizza was aromatic of the San Marzano Tomato sauce with basil, dots of buffala mozzarella and melted ricotta cheese. It included a subtle diced meat and a spicy ground pork chip for a firm bite. The aroma of the San Marzano sauce lasted all meal. I can't imagine when that next set of friends come into town and say "Pizza ?", that we would go anywhere else. The ambience is casual and a drive by might cause one to overlook stopping here. By all means, Stop and try Fat Tonys pizza, you will smile all the way home. Ask for the San Marzano sauce, Ray

Yelp
Would not have found this on a drive-by. Read about it in the local paper. Delicious pizza at a good price. Took enough home for another meal. We'll definitely be a return customer.

Yelp
Pizza was fantastic... Loved both white sauce and tomato sauce based ones. Really good food, friendly staff and quick service. Will come back and highly recommend for legit Neo pizzas.

Shannon E.

Yelp
Food was really good! Pizza crust was great. A nice salad and Pizza for $5. On happy hour. $3. Margarita my husband liked. Bruschetta was excellent. Toasted on both sides and topped with plenty of tomatoes, basil, feta and balsamic. Our waitress was prompt and friendly.

Yelp
We come from North Bend Wa for a baseball tournament every Memorial Day weekend and every time we get Fat Tony's...they never disappoint.. always delish!!

Yelp
So happy we finally tried Fat Tony's Pizzeria. I ordered to go so I'm sure it would be more crisp if I dined in. The all meat pizza was a delight. I swear I've tried at least 8 pizza spots in town. This one is in the top 3. The dough is thin with a nice chew and is still soft. The cheese and sauce are light and let the toppings and crust shine. I think i read they use San Marzano tomato sauce which is mild and i enjoy it much more than the strong acidic/overly sweet tomato sauces on American style pizzas. Their pepperoni is cupped, crisp and a tad spicy. The sausage is a little spicy too. I'd definitely return. My 7 year old son had their hawaiian pizza and devoured 4 slices of the large pie. He liked it that much.
google avatar

Amy R.

Yelp
In town for one night and had this doordashed to our room- it was dang good!!!! And still hot when it arrived!

Llanckin

Yelp
Imagine paying 25 bucks for the driest thinnest pizza you'll ever have. Very low quality.

Kris P.

Yelp
Very nice people run this place. The pizza was good, but wow was the pepperoni greasy. We were mopping it with napkins. They have green olives as a topping. For us, that's always a plus!

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
This is a slightly out of the way place worth finding. Retro vibe, friendly neighborhood shop.
google avatar

Mariah V.

Yelp
The food was seriously the bomb. We got the margarita pizza and went back a few days later and got it again. The dough was soft, the sauce flavorful and authentic, and the cheese perfect. The service was fine. We did take out and they forgot one of our pizzas and got the other one wrong. Still tasted good.
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
Pizza was great, very thin. Beer was cold. It was different having the 16" delivered un-cut but with a pair of scissors, first time with pizza scissors for me. They need a better location though.

Yelp
Fat Tony's is a new pizza joint located in the Old Bend neighborhood next to the defunct (and sorely missed) Esta Bien taco joint on Hill St. - Solid foldable pizza with good flavor and proper char. They have a lot of options including vegan. I think this is good pizza. Some other items look enticing as well. - Draft beer selection is poor. Only two on tap and I was told they were almost out of one, the other being a Fat Tony's signature stout, which is decent. They also should provide ABV numbers on the beer(s). The stout is apparently 6.5%, BTW. I couldn't find it on Untappd. - Wine options are better but still limited. - They advertise a full bar but here again, it's not all that full. $3 happy hour margaritas are enticing though. - Ambiance is spartan. A few awkwardly placed tables and one booth. Two silent TVs running. Not loud inside at all. Mobility-challenged folks will have no trouble. -A few of the pizzas are denoted as vegetarian but I suspect they're not because of probable animal rennet in the cheese. Could be wrong - it's often hard to sleuth out rennet as the cheese industry is not terribly forthcoming. - Service is Bend friendly and efficient. Top marks. - Prices are quite reasonable. Recommended but the limited alcohol and ambiance prevents a 4-star rating.

Yelp
Wow what a hidden gem. I'm in town on business and have been exploring Bend for a week and this place was recommend by a coworker. A+, the pizza was amazing. The crust is some of the best I've had in years. When I return in a few weeks this will be my first stop. So a bit of a side story. I ordered a pizza and the poor waitress dropped a slice on the way to my table. Unknown to me they made an entire pizza for me to replace the one slice! Way over the top in customer service. So I'm traveling and eating alone. I could never eat another pizza before I left town so I paid it forward and gave it to a group of young men who looked like they could use a fresh hot slice of pie. Can't recommend this place highly enough. Outdoor seating with a great little atmosphere. It's not expensive or flashy. The foot traffics of locals is enough to tell you this is the best pizza place in town! Worth a visit.

Yelp
10 out of 10!! We sat outside and enjoyed some great 80's music- loved it. Started with traditional buffalo wings, and shared cheese pizza, carne asada pizza and chicken Alfredo that came with two pieces of garlic bread (outstanding) and a house salad. It was all fantastic. We aren't locals, but I'll be thinking about this place for a while and the next time we're in town I'll make sure to be back. I'm assuming the gentleman working the front was the owner- he was also great. Highly recommend.

Dean P.

Yelp
My classico pizza was delicious, but it arrived cold. The mixed salad was also excellent, but came with the wrong dressing and no utensils or napkins. My wife had to go to the hotel office to beg some. Another woman was there at the same time for the same reason. Too bad, the pizza was the best I've had in a long time
google avatar

Kevin D.

Yelp
I was excited to see a new pizza restaurant opened up, but left feeling mostly mediocre. Inside is very small and I was disappointed to see that the soda machine didn't seem to be working properly. I was charged for a drink, but I couldn't get the right flavor of Diet Coke. It was diet root beer with no fizz. Surprised they didn't offer a refund. The pizza was decent in terms of crust and size but overall the toppings weren't my favorite and I would just give the pizza itself around three stars since it wasn't special enough to come back. It was also 32 dollars which seemed too much for the quality. Maybe a 15$ pizza Edit response: I did ask for refill, but the refill was also unfed diet root beer instead of Diet Coke ... if the soda machine is not working, you guys should've told me that. Additionally, charging four dollars for a couple of pineapple that is probably worth maybe $.20 is quite the markup.
google avatar

Anne K.

Yelp
Yum! The Caesar salad was delicious with a generous amount of dressing. The pizza was cooked to perfection. The bread that came with the bolognese was probably the best bread I've ever had. Fast service as I did not call in order, I barely waited.

Yelp
We recently discovered this Hidden Gem in the neighborhood. Love the Pizza, Healthy Salads & Bruschetta offering. The service is attentive and makes you feel at home. We will come back to our new local restaurant.

Yelp
This place is awesome hidden gem in Bend. Best place around.i will come back again and again.

Yelp
Don't sleep on Fat Tony's! Amazing margaritas, caesar and pizza. Try the happy hour and check for specials

Yelp
Here from out of town with my daughter and sought this place out based on its good reviews (even though it's a little out of the way and tucked off the beaten path in an old neighborhood). Ordered two pizzas. Place wasn't too busy, so we had several table options indoors and out - nice. Still took almost 30 minutes for the pies. Both were tasty, but one was not as ordered. It was missing two of the 6 ingredients (sausage and green pepper) that we had paid for. We were going to let it slide, but the manager(?), Alberto, walked by and we pointed out the issue. His response was a little surprising. He was friendly enough but only offered to bring out some green peppers for us and nothing more. Didn't even apologize. I prefer my pizza ingredients to be baked in, not on the side, so I thought this was a weak response. He offered no refund for the extras (albeit we didn't ask), no "we're so sorry," or even an another soda for my kid (also didn't ask). The server, who started our order at the beginning, happened to be nearby and shared Alberto's indifference when she joined in. Disappointing. Service a 1, food a 4, so we gave them the benefit of the doubt by averaging up to a 3. My advice: order the presets from the menu, enjoy the environment, and don't expect much more.

Yelp
Hanging out in Bend for concert. Trying cuisine of Bend, Oregon and we were fortunate enough to stumble on to Fat Tony's Pizzeria. It was even happy hour which makes hubby happy. He had their house made stout and found it to be tasty. We each had our own 12 inch pie. Hubby got pepperoni which was yummy because they use the crisp cup kind. Fat Tony's has one of my favorite toppings = ricotta cheese so got my sausage and ricotta pie, so good. The place is tucked away in residential so do not give up seeking this gem. Thank you for making our trip to Bend, pleasant.

Yelp
pizza is nothing special. margarita was decent tho. i got the asada pizza which is already not a normal combination but i think even if the pizza was top notch it still a bad choice. the price isn't terrible but stick to pepperoni if you chose to eat here
