I had the most amazing time here got to stand in front of this beautiful black woman statue, and also held a snake, which is one of my biggest fears. I even amaze myself the people were everywhere. It was so packed and crowded, but such a friendly, beautiful diverse atmosphere!!!❤️🥰❤️ for what?

Google
It’s the centre of Times Square where you have the Father Duffy statue and the Red Stairs. Good spot for clicking pics for your Insta. But beware of those dressed up in Disney characters outfit who invite you to take a pic with them. They will forcefully demand 20$ for after you take the pic. Same with those who offer to clock a pic with their camera. Just stay away from them. Before going to Duffy Square remember this place has no accessible restrooms. You will have to go all the way to Penn Station or Hudson Yards for it.

To truly experience New York, you need to immerse yourself in its atmosphere. The time of day isn't as crucial as experiencing both its daytime vibrancy and nighttime energy to grasp its full essence.

Crazy place, full of tourists and buskers. The lcd billboards light up the square with a fake coloured light. It is a bit surreal. Lots of buskers posing for photos and expecting money, including a naked cowboy, a giant gorilla, mickey and miney.

Visited this square located in the northern triangle of Times Square. The last time I visited Times Square was back in 2005. I was very surprised and mesmerized by many LED billboards that were added all around! There were many people dressed up as super heroes, video game characters, talking pictures with tourists in exchange for a small fee. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience.

Google
Great spot to chill and take all of Times Square in! The views of the Ball drop, the Broadway shows, and the bright lights. It's also an awesome spot for a group photo, which we did with our students!

Google
It was very crowded and noisy. People who are trying to scam you are out of control. The police should do something about this. There were even fake monks. But the view at night is at another level.

New York's landmark, the busiest street, is suitable for playing at night. It is colorful and interprets the fusion of wealth and dreams.

Yelp
Would have no idea that this is the name of the block right in the middle of where the World Famous Times Square is located. It's in Mid Manhattan between Broadway and 7th, and between 42nd and 47th Streets. This major crossroad is where NYC holds its New Year's Eve celebration. But every day is filled with street performers, tourists, panhandlers, lots of NYPD, a TKTS Booth, ABC Studios, giant and bright billboards, and many major retail stores surrounding the area. Right now Times Square Arts has a Love's Hedge on display for the month of February and it's free to the public. I personally have never heard of Father Duffy, and don't know much about him. Will Google for more information. There is his statue right in the middle which I didn't see many people go by to take a selfie with the statue as there is way too much going on to see and listen around this massive and busy square.

Yelp
Father Duffy Square is located in the center of Times Square or is it part of Times Square or is it really called Father Duffy Square but people just call it Times Square? It is some what strange for the Father Duffy Statue to be in the middle and being surrounding by bright lights. Behind it, you have the TKTS stairs/red steps seats. I feel like the statue was here first and as time went by, it got busier and things started to develop around it. Anyways, it is somewhat strange to see a statue and plaque stating this is Father Duffy Square when everyone knows it by the name Times Square. There are so many people here. Seems like no one really notice this square is called Father Duffy or even notice the statue. This is where hundreds and millions of tourist come every year.

Yelp
The statue of Father Duffy stands tall overlooking the minions of tourists, locals, street performers, and unique individuals which crowd into Times Square. Sure, it's a tourist trap area, and can be quite annoying with it's throngs of humans posing for pics, but there is some fun people watching here. Climb up the lit red stairs behind him, take a seat, and be entertained. Not going to get into the history of Father Duffy here as it's been written many times before. Also, this is where you find the TKTS booth to score Broadway theater tickets when live performances are happening.

Yelp
I've looked through my photos on this rainy day. I guess I've never taken one of the Statue of Father Duffy. Probably because I hate to linger in this area long. It's so congested with people. Traffic goes here and there. My favorite sites in this Square are the views. You can get a 360 degree perspective of the Neon Signs. Right now you may be able to see where the ball will drop on New Years Eve 2020. If you like to people watch there's plenty of opportunity to do that here. You can find a seat and relax. If you can handle the cold weather. I'm not going to repeat all the information about Father Duffy. I somehow feel the spot chosen for his Statue isn't right. It's a well known area so it's worth a visit while you're vacationing in this neighborhood. It's in Times Square, it's guaranteed to be entertaining!

Yelp
Every single day, thousands of people pass through Times Square to take pictures on the gigantic red steps that sit over the TKTS booth. Even though the north end of Times Square is a well-known part of the iconic American landmark, not many people know it has its' own name: Father Duffy Square. Father Francis Patrick Duffy was a chaplain and officer in a New York infantry regiment known as the Fighting 69th. Father Duffy was a celebrated war hero and is one of the most highly decorated chaplains in US Army history. When his time in the military came to an end, he returned to Manhattan to serve as the Pastor of Holy Cross Church in Hell's Kitchen until he passed away. In 1937 a bronze statue and granite monument installed in the northern triangle of Times Square to honor the life of Father Duffy. Most people don't care about Father Duffy only that the stairs make a good photo op. Sad.

Yelp
I've seen a lot of evolution in Times Square over the years. I specifically remember one day suddenly there were these bleachers. I thought at the time they were for a specific event like a show was going to happen. Turns out not only were they a permanent fixture, they had a name...The Red Steps. Shortly after that they added the revamped TKTS booth. Then in my travels the other day I noticed there was now a statue in front of the Red Steps. I googled it of course. Come to find out this whole thing has now become Father Duffy Square. Or so I thought. Further investigation revealed that this has always been Duffy Square and Father Duffy has always been there I just hadn't noticed him before. Now at 7 feet tall in front of the ruby red steps backed by a giant Celtic cross you can't miss him.

Yelp
The NYC triangle tourist hive! Any person working/living in NYC knows to avoid this area during lunch. When you work in the area, You'll see tourists everywhere. Look Big screens! Broadway! Everyone looking up and not looking where they're going and then... They just stop walking. Standing in the middle of the sidewalk pointing. Why.... Father Duffy Square is located between 45th and 47th Streets, I've always associated the area with TKTS, the reduced-price theater tickets booth but it's been a synonymous with NYC since Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia dedicated the area with a statue of Chaplain Francis P. Duffy of New York's "Fighting 69th" Infantry Regiment on May 2, 1937. I'm sure Father Duffy seeing a statue of himself would be happy. He's surrounded by smiling people taking pictures and overlooking NYC. Father Duffy Square, It's the pulse of NYC and here for everyone to enjoy.

Yelp
Sits on the northern triangle of Times Square, "Crossroads of the World," Father Duffy Square is open to the public and definitely a tourist trap where locals and out-of-towners flock to the red steps resting, mingling, reading, eating lunches, couples smooching and smoochs with mistresses/forbidden lovers other than boyfriend/girlfriend or husband/wife. This outdoor space is a magnet for tourists, a staging area for public rallies, the scene of victory celebrations, Christmas caroling since 1973, plus more. Below the red steps is home to one of the TKTS Booth which sells day-of-performance tickets only to broadway and off-broadway shows. The northern statue honors the namesake of this parkland, Father Francis Patrick Duffy (1871-1932), a military chaplain and a priest in the Times Square area.

Yelp
My teen daughter wanted to visit New York City for the first time so we went there for two days. I think the best way to see this area is at night since that is really when all the signs show their true colors. This place is really crowded with tourists so if you get any anxieties with crowds then this place is not for you. If you get up early (about 06:00) in the morning you get the see everything except the crowds.

Yelp
Considering I never look at statues or read monument signs while living in NY (#1), it's no surprise I find out the "ascending lit red staircase of Times Square" is really the back drop and view of the infamous Father Duffy Square, one of the area's most recognized spots. Brightly lit and open at all hours, the stairs serve as an ideal meeting spot in the Times Square chaos. It is approximately 27 steps, all large enough not to fall, and the seating capacity can be as much as 1,000. It is a fitting addition to Times Square, representing the bright lights of Broadway and presenting another option to the photo hungry tourists. Aside from its historical relevancy to the area, it is for all intents and purposes a great place for a quality photo op at night and a great people watching spot. Climb to the top of the stairs where you'll find yourself on top of TKTS and with a new camera angle to capture the city. Whenever I am forced to show newbies to the city around, I find myself parked here at the square till they're done walking around. There is a certain serenity while sitting elevated in the chaos of people and watching time slow down while the clock ticks faster for everyone else below. In addition, there is also the element of surprise: my friend orchestrated a surprise proposal to his now bride on these very steps, in the treacherous winter, without her realizing she was to say "Yes" in front of dozens of friends in the heart of the city. It was a momentous occasion and wonderfully executed. Duffy Square is more than just a monument, a meeting place, or a park. It's one of the things that helps makes Times Square beautiful in its own light. _________ (#1) That's what locals (don't) do ... right?

Yelp
The lovely red steps. They are so pretty and perfect for a nice touristy feel in the city. On a nice summers night its crowded. Like you can't even walk up the steps there are people everywhere. But isn't everything in the city crowded on a nice summer night? Duh. If you're in the area stop by. Read the little statue thing and look at all the millions of people standing around. It humbles me sometimes standing up there looking at the sea of people going by. Crazy stuff. On a quiet night (if there ever is such a thing out here) get to the top. That's my master plan. Sit right at the top of the stairs and reflect for a bit. Maybe soon, since its getting colder.

Yelp
I loved this little square when visiting NYC about a month or so ago. Here are the reasons why: 1. It was located right outside of our hotel. As soon as you exited it was across the street. 2. It's so vibrant, full of tourists and locals milling around. Tourists tend to gawk at the Broadway signs, and locals tend to saunter down the sidewalks with their eyes on their phones. 3. Great place to people watch while eating breakfast or drinking a cuppa. 4. This is where you can get reduced-priced tickets for theatre shows. (Just look where the lines are queued up, behind the red stairs.) 5. There are a lot of places to sit, relax, and just watch the ebb and flow of people passing you by. 6. It's really very beautiful at night, with the signs are lit up and the buildings are in relief.

Yelp
Father Duffy Square is the place to just hang out in the Broadway and Times Square area. The bleachers are there to sit and relax and take in all the sounds and people watching as well as being completely surrounded by all the big screens and bright lights. This is the one of the most memorable and iconic touristy experiences of NYC.

Yelp
One great place to people watch in NYC, along with all the selfie takers and other tourists. The city has already put in many large granite stones that make this easier to clean with a mini gamboni street washer. The area shines and the red chairs and tables come out and you try hard to soak all of it in. It is an assault on the senses! Nonetheless you should experience this locale once or twice or everyday of your visit. Large grandstand over looks Father Murphy statue as you look toward Times Square. It's hard to imagine New Years Eve in 90 degree weather but I tried and was thankful that we weren't shoulder to shoulder! This was relaxing sitting and watching believe it or not.

Yelp
I could people watch all day here.. Definitely a tourist spot to check out... park your butt on the steps and watch the impersonators and all the billboard shows. On the east side of the street.. Times square has a mini museum worth checking out. Only negative is that you have these "comedy" show ticket hecklers everywhere. They seriously do not leave you alone. Your best bet is to just say "no thank you" everytime and keep walking. Some may still hound you.. but just keep moving.

Yelp
I love this place. It's great for taking the really cool pictures, so it's no surprise that there are so many tourists here. I really love the red steps, at first you are like going up the stairs, and all of a sudden you realize that you're at the top now you're ready to find a place to sit. The whole area is just full of energy.
