The Best Wine Bars in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"This sweet shop on the border of Marigny and Bywater on St. Claude Avenue is a neighborhood favorite for small-production wines and newer labels. Grab an astonishingly well-priced glass of wine — there’s a different red, white, and sparkling to choose from just about every week — to sip while you peruse the large inventory, which includes tinned fish and rare spirits." - Clair Lorell

Where to Get New Orleans Restaurant and Bar Merch for Holiday Gifts - Eater New Orleans

"We love the design on the shirts from Faubourg, the Marigny’s charming, small producer-oriented neighborhood wine shop. Even better, the various T-shirt and tank styles were printed by local shop Purple Monkey Design. Faubourg has a bunch of fun options for stocking stuffers as well, particularly of the tinned fish variety." - Clair Lorell

8 Neighborhood Restaurants New Orleans Has Relied On During COVID - Eater New Orleans

"It might not be a restaurant, but Faubourg Wines’ neighbors (and beyond) have definitely been relying on the St. Claude Avenue shop during the pandemic. It implemented an efficient curbside service model back in March, where orders for wine are placed by phone or through an online order form and are available to pick up later that day. For those that really miss browsing, solo shopping appointments are now available." - Clair Lorell

Cute lil wine shop w cute tiny bar been around well over a decade now. Variety of wines and a handful of niche bevs. Wine by the glass appx $7-12-ish before 10% tax and dont forget to tip. I have been charged wrong price per glass a lot (never less, always more) and dont love the paper to go cups for a glass of wine that has been $15 a glass after tip. I get paper is eco friendly but I have seen nicer eco to-go alternatives elsewhere. Overall a good spot.

Walk in through the doors, wave hi to your friends at the round table by the windows, walk immediately to the fridges, open the one on the left, grab the bottle from the bottom shelf, third from the right, and grab another just above, but all the way to the right. If you need it, get some humbolt fog from the other fridge and a baguette from the counter. You can stay a while, hang out front. Or leave to go to your party. Can’t go wrong.

Google
Wow what a cute spot! Cheap but tasty wine pours and friendly atmosphere paired with what appears to be a very serious wine selection.

Google
First time here after hearing about this place from a good friend for quite some time. It’s everything a cool neighborhood wine shop could be and should be. Very cool vibes and the wine selection was incredible. So many options for any budget. They have a daily rotation of different wines for $5 a glass! If you like wine, this is the place for you.

Free wine tasting on Wednesday. The atmosphere was great and the owner was very helpful.

Google
What a nice little wine spot. We stopped in to stock up on beer and wine for the weekend, one of us got a fairly good tour of the stock of wine by the staff. Not a ton of liquor or beer, but there was enough and enough of the style for us to leave happy

I just bought 3 bottles of wine from this lovely establishment that I’ve been a customer of for years. The woman working was very unpleasant on the phone prior to me arriving. I did not have my card handy at the time of the order and kindly asked if I could give it to her when I arrived. To her annoyance , she allowed. Warning me they close at 7 I assured her I would be there within minutes as I live around the block (order placed at 6:40 pm). As I got there she was very rude to me and as I thanked her many times, she just stared at me without saying a word. I’ve never had this happen at my former neighborhood wine store. Apologies to her if I placed an order 20 minutes prior to closing and picked it up 10 minutes prior to closing. Was not too excited on how she treated a loyal customer of the wine shop.

Google
It was super-crazy-busy when I stopped in a couple of weeks ago, just to grab a couple of bottles to go. I'd have liked to peruse more than I was able, but it was okay. They seemed to have a good selection, with decent prices. And they even had a bargain shelf, with something that turned out surprisingly good! (Dinner with a big fam, who aren't really wine people...) I look forward to going back, next time I'm back home.

Yelp
We were in the area at the close by Saint Roche market, when we decided to walk a few steps in and enjoy a glass of wine. We almost walked right by this adorable wine spot, that seems popular with the locals. A very quaint spot. Walking in you get the ability to select a bottle of wine or a glass. There was a lot to choose from so it made the experience that much more enjoyable. I went with a nice rosé. Service was great, the environment was cozy and comfortable. I must try.

Yelp
I really enjoyed our visit. We came on a Wednesday evening for their free wine tasting, and enjoyed it so much I think we will keep coming back on Wednesdays. Tastings are 6-8pm. The staff was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about wine. The area for the tasting seems crowded into a small area, so you don't have much elbow room while listening to the presenter. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is that they didn't have a large selection of by-the-glass wines available compared to other wine bars we go to, and I saw a few tables with cheese and bread plates but didn't see any information on ordering one for us. They did have both indoor and outdoor seating available, but all the tables were full, so we sat at the bar. Prices were what we typically expect in a wine bar. I believe the total for 5 glasses with tip was around $54.

Yelp
Seven years and 22+ check-ins later and I realize I had wrongly only granted this sweet local biz four stars. This is one of my favorite places in town and I'm gonna right that wrong. On my most recent visit, we were looking for a chill place to de-Carnival. You know what I mean. We wanted to avoid the Lundi Gras revelry and just relax in one of those sweet window seats. This place is a true locals hang. Yes, it's a wine shop, with a great selection of bottles (and quality affordable ones at that), but I like to order by the glass and enjoy the scene because there's always interesting conversation and meet-ups happening. It was a more quiet night, but there was a dog that we made friends with. I mean, he ran away from his people who were gathered at the long bar to sit on our laps! Never had that happen to me before, but there's the magic of Faubourg Wines. There's always something delicious by the glass and it's only 5 bucks. Where are you going to get a deal like that in town? My first glass was a sparkling red, similar to a dry Lambrusco. Apparently it was a rare bottle and sorry to say, that they are probably not getting more of it. I like that it makes things seem extra special. And anyway, you can follow that glass up with another excellent $5 red, white or sparkling. I cannot believe it's been 7 lucky years since they've opened shop on a sleepy block of St. Claude, but it's such a vital place in the neighborhood. I'm a forever fan.
google avatar

Yelp
Great space and selections of wine. By the glass prices are very cheap. Bottles mid range. Nice to have a shop that specializes in French wines and other European wines, rather than all California wines. Vibe here is very very chill and wonderful. Go today!

Yelp
I blame Covid for not being able to review the actual inside of the wine shop. But boy, have they figured out a great workaround that makes buying a bottle of wine even more fun than usual! They're taking social distancing to the max, but that's ok. You can't go in the shop at all, all orders are placed by phone or online. They have this cute online order form (you'll see) with a free text box where you tell them what you're looking for and they take it from there. So basically, you get sommelier service for free! I absolutely loved the hot-weather white they chose for me, so much that I'm going back for another bottle. The whole process is very easy: you order, they send you an invoice, you pay it, and they email you that it's ready. You pull up to the curb, call, and they set it on a table outside the door, completely contact-free. I can't wait for this pestilence to end so I can actually go in and meet these people!

Yelp
Large selection of wines, very knowledgeable staff. I came here only twice, and I did like the store/bar very much. You can buy wines by the bottle or by glass. You also can get beer, I think but the case. I am not sure about that, because I was interested in wine only. You can sit outside, inside by the windows or in the back of the store. It looks cute and cozy. First time I came, I asked if they had Malbec. Second time- Pinot Noir. They didn't have those wines, but as I said earlier, the bartenders were very knowledgeable. They gave me to taste different wines, I was happy with their suggestions. Plus you can't beat their prices-$5 for a glass of wine. The reason for 3 stars is, at my very first visit I accidentally was charged for somebody else's order. I called the store with the inquiry. Somebody was supposed to call me back, but never did. The difference wasn't much, I wouldn't mind leaving as a tip. In my opinion, it is not good customer service.

Yelp
This is a gem of a place. They have a beautiful selection of wines from all over the world and they have several choices of $5 wines to enjoy on site. There's several choices for red, white and sparkly alike. It's a great place to chill with friends and work also because they have WiFi. They have cheese and crackers that they will plate for you as well as other gourmet mustards and packaged seafood. I love the ambiance here with the wooden tables and alcoves. The fact that it's a wine shop and a place to hang out is amazing.

Yelp
Perfect new business for the bywater. Wine, cheese, meats and liqour selections. Also try the New Orleans Rum ginger ale with rum added called Gingeroo. Then owner was a great resource for finding new wines. Me and my wife will be regulars here.

Yelp
This place is everything you want in a neighborhood wine shop! Small and intimate yet great for groups. The staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable of the collection of wines. The carry a great selection of cheeses and bread is brought in daily from Bellegarde. When you walk in get familiar with the place, look over the wine racks and if you have any questions ask the person behind the bar they will be happy to show you what your looking in the right price range. Wine tasting held every Wednesday! Great for first dates! Dog friendly ;-)
google avatar

Yelp
First of all, a glass of wine will cost you only $5. Doesn't matter if it's a Pinot or a Rosé, it's five bucks. Second, they have a plethora of wine to choose from so you're more than welcome to buy a bottle and take it home with you. Third, they also have an assortment of cheese and meats in their fridge (not a huge selection) which you can buy individually and they'll slice it up and set it on a board for you. A basket of fresh bread of the day is next to the cash register, ready to be consumed. Lastly, R&B hits playing in a dimly lit yet cozy ambience? Sign me the fuck up.

Yelp
This is a great place to satiate your wine fix. Fans and I came here for wine tasting Wednesday. I've never been here before, but as usually for the hidden Marigny spots, it was a great surprise. Other than my bestie smokey the bear (whom I tamed - see pics) there is an abundance of goodies to enjoy here. You can bring your kids here and your pets so no excuses to not stop by. There are two window seating areas (one with a chess board) and more seating in the back- We didn't partake in the cheese plate but it did look pretty good (if that's your kind of thing). The staff isn't pushy and the customers are all smiles. I give this place two thumbs way way up there.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite wine shops in the city. They are open again for shopping inside and they have a great selection of unique wines. The staff are great, super knowledgeable, and happy to order things if you have specific wines in mind. Hopefully they start doing wine by the glass again soon!

Yelp
Faubourg Wines just opened last week, on Thanksgiving Day. I'd been hearing great things about the place so I decided to attend the first of their weekly wine tastings. When I walked through the door I was instantly reminded of Sip, an awesome wine shop that used to be on Magazine Street in the Irish Channel. Anyone remember it? I freakin' loved that place! I could walk there, it was super neighborhoody, trendy, fun and laid back. Anyway, after tasting a few AMAZING wines, I struck up a conversation with the two (fabulous) ladies behind the counter. It was then I discovered they in fact used to run Sip and it was part of the inspiration behind the Faubourg Wines concept. Needless to say I am thrilled. If this place lives up to Sip (and I'm sure it will) I'll be a regular. So stoked to have Faubourg Wines in the neighborhood. Here's why I think this place is going to be great: 1. Excellent wine selection 2. Friendly staff 3. Inside seating big enough for groups 4. Sidewalk seating 5. They will soon have cheeses/snacks 6. They seemingly have their shit together (unlike other wine shops in the neighborhood) As for now the only thing they *need* is art on the walls. Our neighborhood is filled with artists so I'm sure that'll happen soon. Can't think of anything else at the moment but I look forward to adding more details to my review.

Yelp
Super laid back and comfortable wine bar. They serve select wines by the glass at the bar for $5! You can also choose from a small curated selection of liquors, pick up local bread and a nice selection of cheese. Ifyou prefer, buy a bottle of wine and hang out at their inside and outside tables. Fun place and the prices seemed reasonable.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place! Great selection of unique wine and cheese. The staff is friendly and helpful. They also serve a great selection of wine at the bar. Quaint, quiet , relaxing atmosphere. Just a perfect place to relax and unwind.

Yelp
Friendly staff and actually met the owner, friendly and knowledgeable. Has tasty wines for happy hour at reasonable prices - even walked away purchasing a bottle of their rose! Highly recommend

Yelp
Awesome place to supply your wine needs! Went here last week with a girlfriend. The significance of that was it was Mardi Gras time, and we wanted to avoid the parades and uptown area. Therefore, we opted for the bywater/marigny area. We wanted a Bacchanal (awesome place) vibe, but we didn't want to pay Bacchanal prices and weren't in the mood for a live band either. There's an abundance of wine to select from, as well as some beer! The ladies working that evening were more than willing to make some suggestions and help us find some new wines to try. We popped a bottle open there, and grabbed a cute table located in the front window! I personally love to people watch and have great conversation! The atmosphere was great for just that! Next time I would like to build a cheese board, but they didn't seem to have a huge selection so we opted out this go round. After a bottle of wine we were conveniently located to mosey on down the street to grab some food from off Frenchman.

Yelp
Facebook hipped me to this place with one of those so and so is interested in this event and we thought you might be as well. Well yes Facebook you were correct and thank you and your nosy ways. The event was a sampling of 5 "black" owned wine brands/wineries. The store is very typical of both many Bywater eateries and many wineries. It totally has that dim glow European atmosphere to it. It does have seating both at the bar, at the back, and in the front windows. In addition there are 4 bistro sets outside with sufficient lighting for if you want to sit out there at night. I think the space is enough to accommodate a normal crowd with no issues. However, they may want to think through crowd control a little better for when larger crowds are anticipated. I got there towards the beginning of the event when there were maybe like 15-20 folks there. People were crowded around hearing about the wine and stepping up for the pour. There was no specific line which drove my process/logistic oriented mind a little wacky but it still worked out with no one being too perturbed by the process. Eventually, more folks arrived and it felt a little more chaotic getting around to get the tastings as well as look at the wine selections. However, even with the crowd we were able to find seats. The do offer cheese and crackers or cheese and Bellegarde bread. This is a great accompaniment for any tasting. Finally, I am not a true wine head but I saw selections from $12 to $35. They were separated by country but also had great descriptions to guide based on taste pallet. I will definitely be back for the Wed night tastings.

Yelp
I went in for a bottle of champagne. The store has a nice selection but it gets two stars for the smart ass lady working there. I asked about a bottle and this is what she told me it was "vegital like asparagus" who says that. I wouldn't go back. She was trying it. Actually the whole place tries too hard
google avatar

Yelp
Nice people. Good selection of fair priced vino plenty of local types indoors and out having a tipple at this neighbourhood wine bar...just a few doors down st Claude from poke chan
google avatar

Yelp
Close to my Gentilly Neighborhood, by drive, but rolled together as my neighbors. The shop is a tuned to the libation (and financial) means. Rotating Wednesday evening wine tasting, friendly and informed staff and by-the-glass while you saunter the selection make this the wonderful stop on the way home or the best end-of-the-day hook-up with my lady!
google avatar

Marielle S.

Yelp
A nice little "blink and you'll miss it" wine shop in the middle of the Bywater. I am rarely in the Bywater and I passed this place a few times and just assumed it was nothing more than a wine shop. It wasn't until I was brought here on a date that I realized that not only is it a wine shop, you can also sample wine by the glass here as well. Walking in, the place is packed with wines of all types that you can buy by the bottle and take with you or drink on premises. I decided to try a nice glass of $5 red wine. I'm no wine connoisseur, so this was perfect for me. There are seats where you can sit and chat and they have a tapas menu, if you want something to munch on. I really liked the atmosphere, and while I wouldn't call it the most romantic place in the world, it's a nice spot to sit and sample wine, if that's your thing.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
I make it to Faubourg Wines at least twice a week. The $5 glass of wine paired with the best bread ever and some cheese is oh so tasty! There is a bar where you can sit and enjoy your wine or have a wander and pick out a reasonably priced bottle to take home. The Pinot Noir Pali Riveria 2010 is on sale for $16.99 and def my fav at the moment. Every Wednesday night there is a wine tasting and on Friday night the food truck Empanada Intifada sits outside (food truck review coming soon) - Check this place out!
google avatar

Lynda B.

Yelp
I can't say enough about this place. The owner is so friendly and the staff knowledgeable. They have such affordable wines and offer very cheap glasses as well. The vibes are lovely
google avatar

Devin B.

Yelp
Let's get this out of the way: I don't know wine from Adam. I know there's all sorts of words people use to talk about the stuff, but when I talk about wine, I end up saying things like "this tastes like fruit" or "this wine reminds me of dancing." I'm far more comfortable talking about beer or nachos or movies about robots. And yeah, when I found out there was going to be a wine shop opening up nearby, I thought "well, there goes the neighborhood." But guess what? I was wrong! Faubourg Wines is the bomb. The proprietor of Faubourg Wines has always been helpful and accommodating and has never steered me astray with a recommendation. She helps me find the cheap stuff, the big-tasting stuff, and the adventurous stuff in a way that is never condescending or aloof. The lady just loves wine. They put on scavenger hunts and cool neighborhood events sometimes. They have Empanada Intifada come on Fridays. They're an absolute pleasure to have as a neighbor and I hope they succeed. The lady there is even teaching me how to talk about wine, real slowly. Now I say things like "This wine is jam-town U.S.A."
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
Ah. This little homey gem within a 1 minute walk from where we were staying. Lots of little tables, board games and romantic lighting. The ladies that work behind the counter are friendly, approachable and willing to give any advice for food or things to do in the immediate area. Large selection of wines, which is what I love. Also a selection of bottled beers (they had a pumpkin beer from a brewery in NY that we got and hadn't seen on the West Coast before), which my husband likes. Talk about a match made in heaven. We came for their free wine tasting on Wednesday from 6-8pm; 4 wines of different varieties were available to taste. You should stop in for a glass of wine and build your own cheese board. We didn't opt for this because we had a long day walking around everywhere and were anxious to get back to the place to post up on the couch. However, if we had stayed longer we would have taken advantage of this!

Yelp
Come here & buy your wine the blonde lady that runs the place has outstanding knowledge and is so excellent at suggesting wines I'm blown away. I usually pop in buy a bottle w my girlfriend we sit in the window savoring every sip if I'm a little hungry I'll get some of her gorgeous cheese & crackers which she also graciously pairs w the wine!!! The decor is simple but trendy and very much fits in with the St Claude corridor and The hipster crowd that frequents the place is s good cross section of the Marigny/Bywater and oh so attractive....there was a day I forgot my lock one day I was there w my bike but forgot the lock she said no problem being your bike inside Love love love this place and if there were 6 stars they'd get it Great job Faubourg Wines I'm so happy to have you in the neighborhood

Yelp
My friend and I went to their free wine tasting on Wednesday and loved it. The distributor was eager to introduce us to her selection and had some amazing wines to sample. The big open area gives the place a "come as you are" feel and I loved the big open wine bar. I browsed the selection while tasting and they have so many wines priced under $15, lots even under $10! I don't think I will be shopping for wine anywhere else. The lady behind the bar was friendly and helpful and asked us how we enjoyed the tasting. We grabbed a bottle of chilled rum ginger concoction before we headed home (it was as delicious as it looked). So happy to have this gem only two blocks away from my house. No more dusty Hank's wine selection for me! Thank you Faubourg for making me feel like a fine, classy wine store buying lady without breaking my pocket book. Also, kuddos on your support of pitbull rescue. Awesome.

Yelp
I stopped in here a week ago to check it out and was glad I did. I got there at opening and was able to speak with the owner. We went throught the wine racks, and he showed me his method of organization which is based on the "heaviness" of the wines. A little unusal but not all that bad of an idea. The selection looked really interesting, in fact esoteric to the point it was over my head. Would like to come back and check out the wine bar and have a few glasses. And I will.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing neighborhood wine store with great daily by the glass specials. The staff is supremely knowledgeable and never tries to upsell you. So I typically let them guide my purchase by telling them what I'm in the mood for and how much I'd like to spend. Perfect for last minute gifts too.
google avatar

Yelp
New wine shop on St. Claude. Oh Lord.. there goes the neighborhood. (Kidding). I had to stop in and check it out recently. I have to say I was caught off guard by the starkness, or lack of.. decor/(ambiance?) But, that's not why you go to a wine shop, and they just opened.. It looked like they had a good selection, with a couple of good Bordeaux's for 8 bucks that I picked up. They also do free wine tastings on Wednesdays from 6-8 I believe. I got to taste a couple nice ones even though I was there early. Go check it out. Pick up a bottle or two, or have a couple of glasses (they serve BTG at a bar, plus have inside/outside table seating). Oh, 2 of my Christmas gifts came from here and they were quite tasty!
google avatar

Shauna G.

Yelp
Remember when you could still get a good, cheap bottle of wine and a seat at Bacchanal??? Yeah, me neither. Enter Faubourg. My new Bacchanal. Where there's always a place to sit and always a bottle of wine in my desired price range. Sure there's no jazzy outdoor patio. But on the bright side, you won't go home with more mosquito bites than you can count and a shirt drenched with pit stains from thick, soupy humidity.
google avatar

Benjamin G.

Yelp
Every time I go into Faubourg Wines I walk out more pleased than I expected to be. This is the only place I've ever looked forward to buying wine at. The staff/owners are always helpful, accommodating and just damn nice. I can start with "well, I'm kinda looking for a red that's a little...uh..well, I like Malbec and we're just have some hors d'oeuvres..." and, without any false enthusiasm, I suddenly have two or three great, affordable choices presented to me. Last time we walked away with two bottles that were exactly what we wanted. I will be going back again and again.

Yelp
Faubourg Wines came recommended to me from a couple of fellow tennis players. I was searching for a few reasonably priced French wines without taking out a second mortgage ! The owner Catherine was very knowlegable, very personable and very helpful in my quest. They have great selection of not only French wines but a great selection for different palates. Faubourg Wines is highly recommended, I will shop there again and you should shop there too. Tennis and wine really go well together, so serve it up and your starting point should be Faubourg Wines !
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
Very hip wine shop and wine bar. They feature high quality low production wines. 100 selections under $15. And a rotating selection of 8 wines at just $5 per glass at the bar. Free tastings on Wednesday evenings. They also sell really great baguettes & cheese. They have tables so if you'd like, you can claim some space, buy a baguette & cheese and they will set it up on a tray for you. Then you can taste the four wines they are sampling that night. That's my approach.

Abraham D.

Yelp
Great relaxed spot for a glass of wine with friends or on a date. Great selection of retail wines as well.

Yelp
A neighborhood gem: a friendly bar, great wine recommendations, good music playing (Sharon Jones when we were there), kids and pets welcome. A great place to spend a quiet evening hanging out.

Yelp
Kid and dog friendly, and only a $2 corkage fee -this place keeps getting better and better!!

Yelp
Wonderful neighborhood spot! Kids welcome, and totally unpretentious in spite of the impressive wine knowledge of the owner.

Yelp
Amazing wine (fairly priced) and super rad helpful folks, go to here for your wine needs. Also, tasting on Wednesdays, yay! So glad to have found an amazing wine spot in the neighborhood!

Yelp
This place is awesome. Nice laid back environment with very knowledgeable staff. Look for Natalie she is very smart and sexy!

Yelp
I was in the neighborhood quite a bit leading up to Krewe du Vieux, making floats, working on costumes and...drinking, of course. There were many days that I stopped in here (sometimes twice!) to fuel up on well-priced sparkling wine. Favorite find; an intoxicatingly perfumed grapefruit liquor.

I called from Washington DC to find & send a bottle of wine for a friend's party in NOLA. Catherine talked to me & helped me find some great stuff. She was so knowledgable and steered me in the right direction and the prices were totally reasonable. I hope to use them again when I visit NOLA!

Yelp
Love love love! This wonderful little place has my style of wine. Cheap, good, carefully selected and f$&#ing unpretentious! I love me some wine but HATE wine stores and wine people (must have something to do with me living in Napa Valley for 4years, grrrr). These are good people. Good people that own it. Good people that go to it. I brought home a few bottles my first time going and the selections were spot on, thanks Owner Lady! Oh and for three bottles? Under $40? Oh I'm gonna be here a lot. I'll update my review after wine tasting Wednesdays and hopefully the place does well!

Yelp
I stopped in between the Green Project and a cocktail party and I didn't even know it was there. Cute place and WAY more importantly knowledgeable folks! I got a super tasty rose. I cannot remember the name but it included the French word for shell. Also, I got two bottles of Chateau des Thibeaud, a white Bordeaux, that was GREAT! I am woe to say CHEAP, but yeah, it was a MODESTLY priced wine!

Yelp
Always a great selection, and they frequently have new wines to try. Most of the wine isn't what you would find in the grocery, and is not priced pretentiously. Owner is very knowledgable and friendly.

Yelp
Great shop, with a nice selection for less than fifteen dollars per bottle. You can sample any bottle by the glass for a small fee. Recently opened and plenty of space to add to the options available. Friendly proprietor. Worth the stop.

Yelp
I love wine but hate the pretentiousness normally associated with it. This place is zero on the pretentiousness scale but a perfect ten in terms of their knowledge of wine, stock of good, interesting selections, and warm, friendly atmosphere. Particularly nice as a complementary place to socialize/read/etc to the ubiquitous coffee houses and bars in the neighborhood.
