Iconic Dallas Chef Stephan Pyles Will Close Flora Street Cafe in Downtown | Eater Dallas

"An experimental tasting-menu spot located inside Flora Street Cafe, Fauna will also close following Pyles’s January 2 announcement that both concepts are being shuttered; beyond identifying it as an experimental tasting-menu venue, the report offers no further details about Fauna’s run." - Amy McCarthy

Google
(formerly Coyote Grill location) Fauna Latin Flavor offered an extraordinary Latin dining experience that left me thoroughly impressed. From the moment I walked in, the vibrant décor, lively Latin music, and warm hospitality set the perfect tone for an unforgettable evening. To start, I indulged in the classic empanadas—golden, flaky pastry stuffed with a delicious blend of seasoned beef, onions, and olives. They were served with a tangy chimichurri sauce that added the perfect touch of freshness. For the main course, I indulged in a mouthwatering Lomo Saltado—Juicy beef strips are stir-fried with onions, tomatoes, and a savory soy-based sauce, then paired with crispy fries and rice. It’s tangy, hearty, and perfectly spiced—a comforting, flavorful dish that hits every note. To top it all off, dessert was a showstopper: a decadent chocolate cake, Flan, Tiramisu and hot coffee. The contrast of warm and cold was perfection on a plate. The lively atmosphere, complete with Latin music and friendly service, tied everything together for an evening that felt like a warm embrace of Latin culinary traditions. + off menu chicken wings were fantastico!! Service was impeccable—our gracious owner Hanna was attentive/attractive without being intrusive/gaudy, offering excellent recommendations and ensuring our glasses were never empty. So whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply want to treat yourself, The Fauna Latin Flavor delivers an unforgettable dining experience. Highly recommended! - Sean

Google
Good new place. The food was very tasty. The size of plates was more than adequate. Red sangria was outstanding, and pisco sour was very good. We had the Tallarines, milanese, and Seco. We also had flan, Tiramisu, and the carrot cake. All 3 desserts were good, but the slice of carrot cake was huge and had great flavor and texture. Only less than stellar was that Seco was not as hot as I prefer. It was fine for my wife, but I like my dishes very hot. The empanadas were full of meat, and the croquettes had a touch of sweet plantains that I had never had before. The servers were excellent. We will come back

Google
I don’t want to sound overly harsh but the coffee was cold even though it was freshly brewed and the dishes were lacking any sort of discernible Latin flavors. The Fauna burrito tasted like something I could make at home, filled with underseasoned chicken and accompanied by Tostitos salsa on the side. The eggs Benedict were bland as well and came with English muffins that weren’t sufficiently toasted. Just a fail breakfast across the board.

Google
Please come out and support this new breakfast, lunch, and dinner restaurant located in Fairfax City! I'm posting just the first page of the breakfast menu and there are many more options, including their "Latin Flavor" options. You can't beat these prices in NOVA! The food is fresh and delicious, and the owner and staff are warm and welcoming. Those of you who live locally know how difficult it is to find a really good and affordable breakfast location, so please support this new business! This restaurant is located in the building previously occupied by Coyote Grill.

Google
An incredible experience! I really didn't expect this kind of food at Fairfax. An excellent proposal of fusion food. I recommend it! We ordered the pork tacos, it was the softest pork I've tried in years. The feta cheese salad with peach is the best and without hesitation I would return for its chicken in truffle sauce.

Google
Great new local gem! Delicious fusion of the best of Latin cuisines, specially Peruvian, Colombian, and Mexican. We recommend the pork tacos, Caribbean croquetas, and the carrot cake! Will come back for sure!

Google
The old Coyote was good but the new Coyote is great! We have had several delicious meals here since they’ve reopened. It definitely feels like an elevated dining experience. The food is high quality and unique for this area. The drinks are also spot on. I love that you can still score a $3 margarita on the same menu with some sophisticated cocktails. Definitely worth a visit!

Google
They did such a cute job with the remodel. Sat at the bar with a girlfriend and received the most friendly service I have had in a long time. We shared a couple appetizers and a tiramisu. The mojito and margarita were 10/10, traditional and not too sweet or sour

Yelp
We miss this restaurant!! It's got good food and lovely waitstaff. We have enjoyed 3 meals in Fauna Latin Flavor. We came twice since our last meal, only to find it is closed. I'm looking forward to its reopening in January 2026. I loved their Eggs Benedict, Shrimp Tacos, and more. We miss the relaxed dining experience and the simplicity of their food.

Yelp
I want to start off by saying how amazing our server was. She was very friendly and suggested all the right things for us to try. She constantly checked up on us, especially for our drinks. I would definitely recommend the pisco sour and piña colada! All the food here has a lot of flavour. I got the Tallarín Surf and Turf and it had the perfect mix of beef and seafood. We also got a bunch of appetisers to try like the Causa Roll and Croquetas Caribeñas. Everything came out freshly made and all the sauces gave each dish an extra kick. This restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, and the decoration is very rural. They are able to move tables around in order to accommodate bigger parties which was nice.

Yelp
Great for breakfast AND dinner, presumably lunch too but I haven't tried that yet. :-) Fast polite service, delicious food, reasonable prices. The owner sometimes hangs out and chats with the patrons. Great replacement for the old Coyote Grille that was there before.

Yelp
The inside of the restaurant was super clean and the staff was very friendly. We ordered to go and got most things on their menu. The tacos all of them are pretty great. The pork was my favorite and the steak one was very refreshing. The chicken tacos were good with the Cole slaw on top it was a good taco. We also got the tiramisu and wow you should get that dessert it was a great endong to a wonderful meal. Great taste, great prices, wonderful location to give a try.

Yelp
Nice new place in downtown Fairfax, near TJ Maxx. I visited for a quick lunch. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I had the Seco a la Limena. I loved it! Wow, it was the perfect meal for a chilly day. I ate every bite of it. I also had their carrot cake for dessert. The cake has a layer of pineapple in the middle and some dulce de leche. It was yummy. I definitely plan to visit again, so I can try some of the other dishes.

Yelp
Brand new restaurant! First and foremost the service was perfection, they were so friendly and welcoming! The owner introduced herself and told us about the restaurant concept! We had breakfast- free coffee until the end of the year with a meal purchase! We had the breakfast arepas! Yum! I would add some meat to mine next time to up its game but I absolutely loved the arepa flavor and texture! The restaurant is nothing fancy but clean and welcoming as well. I didn't see the side room, so I will check that out on my next visit! Clean bathrooms are always a bonus! Can't wait to try a dinner- interesting tacos options and appetizers!

Yelp
This place is so good for breakfast. I had the eggs Benedict with home fries and both were made to perfection. The English muffin was not hard and stiff, like I am used to. I ordered with avocado and it was delicious. Not too heavy and the hollandaise sauce was not too thick and tasted fresh. The chef is Peruvian and for lunch and dinner there's some Peruvian and Colombian infused options. Service with a smile is always appreciated-and this restaurant brought that and then some. Can't wait to come back for dinner.

Yelp
Service was excellent and the aesthetic of the place was something i really enjoyed. I food was amazing i got french toast with eggs and columbian coffee, the french toast was very moist and delicious and orange juice, the eggs were soft and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend if you eat out for sunday

Yelp
They had really really good service, and some fancy food. My brother and I got the croquetas. It spectacular- forgot to get a picture tho. We got the plantains and they were so toasty and custardy and sweet omgggg. And we topped it off with the grilled chicken side. Juicy AF.

Yelp
TL;DR: Has promise. Isn't there yet (for breakfast). Where to start? I guess with the good. Servers were very nice, the interior is fine. Atmosphere overall is decent, if a bit dark inside. And I guess that's the good? Food was a wildly disappointing mix. I thought there would be more "latin flavor" but maybe we were too early to get that on the menu. Breakfast was not worth paying for at a restaurant. I made better breakfast when I was a middle schooler. Potatoes under-seasoned. Omelette just had under-seasoned veg shoved inside a thin layer of egg. Nothing to hold it together at all. The orange juice isn't fresh and has that awful, weird bottled OJ taste to it. That's on me for not asking. Could've bought an entire bottle of mid OJ at the store for the cost of one cup. Breakfast sausage was good, though they forgot it. I think they overheard my companions discussing how they forgot, because they would not shut up about if the severer wrote it down or not (he did, he read it back to us). Frankly I wasn't even mad about that. I just wanted to see if he'd remember at all, or if they'd bill me for food I never got. I told my party this, but no, the ladies had to keep bringing it up like the poor waiter committed a war crime against me (he did not! He was lovely!) and eventually their conversation caught the attention of the staff. I never got to see what would've happened, as they sent the sausage over at the last minute. The Belgian waffle was the driest waffle I've ever had in any restaurant on any continent. I enjoyed the crisp exterior but the inside was more dense than fluffy and it came with literally nothing. Just a super dry waffle on a plate, with a tiny leaf in the middle and syrup on the side. No amount of syrup could re-hydrate that beast without a sugar overload. I'm not even a big fan of Belgian waffles, I just wanted to order something I can't make at home and the items I wanted to order weren't on the menu. The same menu did offer "chocolate chips or blueberries" as an upgrade, but to what end, I ask? Anyway, it might have been an off day. I don't know. I hope they do well. I hope they get a better chef, or if this chef's wheelhouse is lunch and not breakfast that they upgrade their breakfast skills. I would love for this restaurant to stay in business for many years. Small businesses are important parts of the community and I wish them well. And honestly? I'd go back during lunch hours to hopefully experience some of the dishes I saw pictured here on yelp, and read about on the menu, that I actually wanted to try.

Yelp
Happy to see this new restaurant open up as Coyote Grill has closed its doors. Always on the lookout for relaxing and pleasant eateries to dine out in the Fairfax area and Fauna did not disappoint! Most recently, I tried their breakfast menu where I indulged in their Calentao Paisa with a cup of coffee. Great meal! Portions were generous with the rice and beans but not overwhelming. The arepa gave a nice chewy texture that mixed well with the rest of the ingredients, and the plantains, although sweet, were not overwhelming. If you come during Happy Hour too, it's great value. Knocked back an iced margarita with some crunchy chicken tacos (serviceable but filling) that served as a nice send-off to start the weekend off right! Friendly staff, relaxed ambiance, and great food. I hope Fauna becomes a mainstay in the Northern Virginia area and excited to explore more of their menu in the near future!

Yelp
I just recently moved back to the area and found this gem down the street from me. When I first walked in I got a warm welcome from staff. Service was quick, breakfast hit the spot. Very nice put together restaurant, I noticed they have a patio. Was too cold to check out, but I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
We visited today for the first time. We Had the causa and lomo saltado! Delicious! Will come back to try other dishes!

Yelp
Service was friendly, had some nice drinks, establishment was clean and I like the layout. I did not have the breakfast but the tacos were good. Prices are decent, personally I could not eat out here that often but you are not going to get a much better meal for what you pay. I recommend.

Yelp
The owner probably don't care to read or make changes, but here it goes....We arrived on a Saturday night for dinner around 6pm. The restaurant was completely empty. Menu was extremely limited. Price point is leaning towards fine dining, BUT restaurant decor, layout, food and plating screams casual or even diner style. So, either update the restaurant layout, menu, plating, etc to warrant the pricing on menu OR stick with casual dining and lower prices on menu. C'mon, $10 for 2 tiny empanadas, and this was HH pricing! Food was good and service was excellent, but layout, ambiance, and pricing were below average...I just don't see this restaurant lasting more than a few more months. I'm local and love to support my local business, but I just don't see coming here again unless owner makes some major changes.

Yelp
I visited Fauna Latin Flavor for the first time early last month. And since then, all I can think about is going back again! The empanadas are to die for! Some of the best I've ever had! Everybody is always on the lookout for that hole in the wall, hidden gem, Mom and Pop restaurant. Well look no further Fauna Latin Flavor IS that local spot you've been looking for. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and cozy. Just right. Whereas the restaurant that was here previously served Mexican and Tex-Mex fare, Fauna Latin Flavor's Lunch and Dinner menu is a showcase of the very best of South American cuisine, particularly Peruvian and Colombian. If not familiar with this cuisine, you owe it to yourself to go to this place and try it. I went with my uncle, and we both started with an empanada. As I said before, the ones here are to die for. Beautiful , crispy, golden outside. Savory, tender pork on the inside. And served with a delicious homemade chili sauce. Absolutely scrumptious. Maybe not your abuela's, but pretty close! As a waiter's recommendation, we both ordered the lomo saltado. A traditional Peruvian comfort food dish made with skirt steak, tomatoes, rice, french fries, and a delicious sauce with a nice umami flavor. I've had lomo saltado before and I love it. Could probably eat it every day. Fauna Latin Flavor's lomo saltado did not disappoint, best I've ever had! By comparison Inca Social's is good, but nowhere near as good as Fauna Latin Flavor's. High quality ingredients, great seasoning, and prepared and cooked just right. Couldn't ask for more! My complements to the chef! Can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes! And will definitely have to come for breakfast in the near future. As a side note, the menu features fresh squeezed lemonade and a couple other juices. I highly recommend the lemonade! As for the waitstaff and the owner Hannah, they are absolutely lovely. Warm, kind, considerate, they go above and beyond when it comes to service and hospitality. I use a power wheelchair to get around, and it can sometimes be tricky navigating the space in a restaurant when I go out to eat. But at Fauna Latin Flavor, this wasn't a problem at all. Hannah and the staff simply just rearranged some of the tables and chairs.

Yelp
Very nice staff and owner. This was our time visiting and it's nice to have a Latin fusion option in Fairfax. We stumbled upon Fauna looking for a new breakfast spot and this checked all the boxes. Food was good. We had eggs, turkey sausage, pancakes, french toast and some other items. Couple things came out wrong from the kitchen but the staff quickly corrected so no issues. Everyone was super courteous and kind. Would be great to have a kids menu with smaller portions. As with all new establishments it may take some time to iron out some of the details but this place is definitely on its way and we will be back. Curious to try their Peruvian so we'll need to stop in for lunch or dinner next.

Yelp
Food was very fresh and flavorful, service was quick, and place was cozy, clean, and busy! Will return again. Tacos de chicharrón were a favorite.

Yelp
this place is great. Steven the bar manager is incredible. the food and service is stupendous the owners welcomed us warmly we will be back later this week

Carolyn K.

Yelp
I had higher expectations for this restaurant, but considering they are quite new, I'll give them another chance. Went for brunch and the menu was quite limited and differed greatly from their website menu with very few Latin inspired breakfast/brunch dishes offered. The omelets I and my dining companion ordered were very ordinary. The coffee, however, was excellent. I'll try returning for lunch or dinner with the hope of sampling items showcased on their website. Service was very friendly and the ambience pleasant. I look forward to a return visit.

Yelp
I have had quite a few breakfast burritos at other restaurants, but their Fauna burrito is by far the best. It was fantastic! Service was prompt and friendly. As usual, the owner stopped by for a friendly chat.

Katie H.

Yelp
Great food and service. Went for a group dinner and they were very accommodating and kind. Had the croquettes and empanadas, both were delicious and many of us got the Seco and were very pleased. Would definitely go back.

Joan E.

Yelp
We went for restaurant week to try out a new restaurant and found a new favorite. The food was amazing. We enjoyed everything we had. I ordered something off the regular menu, which had a lovely variety of options. Portions were generous and the service was great. I was very impressed with the wine list. Lots of unique options and reasonably priced. We tried a margarita and hello, we will be back for happy hour! They make their base in house and use a great Mexican tequila. It wasn't too sweet and balanced perfectly. The staff was so friendly. All in all, a wonderful dining experience. Parking was easy too, which I appreciate.

Natalie B.

Yelp
First time at this restaurant for Valentine's Day. The service was very good and the food was super tasty. We split an Empanada Colombiana to start which had a flaky crust and a delicious filling. We both got Lomo Saltado and loved it. Very flavorful with a delicious sauce. We will be back!

Suzanne M.

Yelp
Wonderful food and staff. Hanna, the owner, welcomed us, Steven is a master margarita maker. Great experience. We will be back!

VicandSuebee R.

Yelp
It has a lovely atmosphere - relaxing and comfortable. We so enjoyed our delicious appetizer (Tamalito Verde) and the Tacos de Pollo, and the chips and salsa were great. Our dessert (Lima Alfajores) - superb! And the hot chocolate - WOW! Worth a trip just for that! Our server was so kind and helpful and just the right amount of attentive. So looking forward to going back and trying out other things on the menu!

Chris B.

Yelp
100% recommend this restaurant. We decided to stop in after noticing a different sign out front. Now, 3 consecutive weekly visits, and we are thrilled that we decided to give this restaurant a try. Each time has been a wonderful dining experience. Not only is the service outstanding, but the food and drinks are amazing. You won't be disappointed if you give Fauna Latin Flavor a try!!
