Favorites Thai

"This vibrant Thai hot spot hides in plain sight along Ossington Avenue. A quick walk through a tiny coffee shop to the very back leads to the actual dining room, anchored by a small kitchen fitted with binchotan charcoal grills. Sunlight bathes the airy, narrow dining room. All the while, guests dig into electric, vibrant Thai cooking that makes the most out of fresh herbs and fiery chilis. You could fill up just on appetizers, like sticky rice spring rolls, fried chicken wings and beef tenderloin tartare enlivened with fish sauce and fried shallots. A particularly clever fried calamari salad demonstrates the creative talents of this kitchen. From green curries with fish to red curries with duck, the curated menu offers wide appeal for groups." - Michelin Inspector

Thai BBQ on Ossington delivers when it comes to the freshness and quality of its food. The open kitchen concept is a standout feature—watching the chefs at work adds energy to the experience, and the rich, smoky aromas drifting into the dining area are mouthwatering. The ambiance is stylish and welcoming, making it a great spot for a night out. The natural wine list is thoughtfully curated, pairing nicely with the bold Thai flavours. While the food is undeniably delicious, the portion sizes—especially if you order à la carte in half or one-third sizes—leave much to be desired. At over $175 for one person, the value just isn’t there unless you opt for the chef’s menu with wine pairing, which feels far more balanced in terms of experience and price. Service was average—not bad, but nothing that stood out. Overall: A solid pick for food lovers who appreciate quality and presentation, but go in knowing that it’s a premium experience with a premium price tag. Average thumbs up.

The grilled pork chop is hands down the most tender pork I’ve ever had—absolutely insane! The calamari salad is a perfect balance between the spiciness of the calamari and the sweetness of the rice. Every other dish we tried was delicious. The crowd is young and energetic, though a bit noisy at times, but it all adds to the cool, vibrant vibe of the place. We were late for our reservation but the host was accommodating. Great service!

OMG! Flavor explosion over here. The open kitchen is full of amazing chefs making delicious and unique dishes. The service is fast and attentive. The ambiance is fun and comfortable. The food is the star. You can’t miss with anything you order but the short ribs were the standout. Great for sharing as well. 📸 Click on the photos to see what we ordered.

This place absolutely lives up to the hype — I saw that it had a Michelin recommendation, and after trying it, I can completely understand why. I’m a huge fan of Thai and Malaysian food, and I’ve eaten a lot of it — this place is honestly one of the best I’ve had in Toronto. The flavors are not overly complex, but they’re incredibly well-balanced and bold, and everything I tried was spot on. You can tell the ingredients are fresh, and the execution is thoughtful. It’s not fussy — just really, really good Thai food. The space is tiny, so be prepared — it’s a very small restaurant, and you’ll be seated close to other tables, which can feel a bit awkward. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time, especially for dinner. Parking is tough, as it’s street parking in the downtown core, but that’s expected. In terms of pricing, I found it fair — especially for a spot with a Michelin nod. It’s not cheap, but it’s not unreasonable either, especially for the quality. All in all, 5 stars from me. I’ll definitely be back — this one’s a gem.

Google
The food here was so special. The mix of Thai flavours with smoky barbeque was very memorable. My favourite was probably the tuna ceviche and the coconut rice that comes as part of a very spicy salad.

Google
Everything we tried was delicious and so yummy, this has become one of my favourite restaurants I’ve tried now. The chicken wings were my favourite and the char siu short rib was cooked to perfection. The vibes here were great, very fun with great music. However, it does get pretty loud. Our server was super nice and friendly she truly made our night here that much better! Definitely recommend checking this place out and I’ll definitely be back to try their other dishes!

Google
This place is truly worth a visit on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list. It’s a dining experience you’ll genuinely appreciate, especially at this price point. We had the ceviche, sour curry, and short ribs. I truly loved the ceviche and sour curry. The ceviche was by far one of the best I’ve tried, so it’s worth getting. Though there were only four thin slices of tuna, the flavour combination they were able to curate was noteworthy and the effort that went into creating it was evident. For the curry, the addition of the pomelo worked perfectly with the fish. It’s such an expert choice as the pomelo breaks down in the curry with a push of your spoon, so you can enjoy it with the fish. The cod was also cooked perfectly - soft with no pungent fishiness. The addition of lime leaf was well thought out; it worked perfectly. It’s unfortunate but there wasn’t enough curry to go with the amount of rice given. If they had given just an ounce more, it would have felt more fitting. There was also no small knife provided for the fish. Small details but worth noting. I personally didn’t enjoy the short ribs which was ironic given BBQ is in their name. It was cooked well, and the flavours were well thought out with the veggies and sauce choice. However, the flavours felt too muted for me. The sauce and seasoning were a bit too underwhelming for the heaviness of the ribs to make it standout. Yet, if you truly appreciate the taste of meat, you’ll love the dish because it tries to highlight the ribs as a standalone. Con to the atmosphere was how close everyone was sat together despite half of the restaurant being empty. I was a foot away from the next table though there were empty tables all behind me. The tables were too tightly spaced. However, I appreciated the effort of the wait staff. Genuine smiles and they don’t overwhelm you with attention but keep a distant eye on the tables to make sure to clean up quickly or cater to your needs. It’s a thoughtful approach to waiting that I very much appreciated. Was a bit disappointed to see that the Thai ice tea was not on the menu. Really wanted to try it here!

If you order 7 things at a restaurant, it’s normal for a few to be a miss. But not at this place. Every single thing we ordered was just amazing and so nuanced and well paired. Absolutely loved this restaurant and the staff here. Definitely has been added on to the list of favorites. Will be going again for sure!!!

Yelp
Been here a couple of times anow and it offers a great different slant towards thai cusine as they offer a bit more of a fine dining element doing a bit of fusion and they have an emphasis on my two favourite proteins duck and lamb which does not hurt Stand out dishes are the duck sausage which is one of the best sausages I've ever eaten. Super juicy, fatty, and flavourfull Lamb chops were also A+ perfectly cooked, super juicy with a ton of flavour Negatives can be it is super dark

Yelp
Rating: 3.5 I don't think it would be fair to really leave a 3 star review but it also wasn't a solid 4. This is a cute spot behind a coffee shop and really nice for date night. The staff were very friendly and the food was tasty. We got the ceviche, charred eggplant salad, pork secreto, and black cod sour curry. I would also rate them highest to lowest in that exact order. The ceviche was amazing and what has apparently gotten them their Michelin bib gourmand. It's an instagrammable plate, if you're in to that, but we scooped up all the sauce cause it was just that good. The charred eggplant salad was also really tasty but only had 3 pieces of eggplant in it. I would still get it again though. The pork secreto was much leaner than we thought it was going to be and didn't really have much visible fat on it. It was very tender and cooked to perfection. There were a lot of pieces of pork, which was nice cause our final dish was very disappointing. We ended with the black cod sour curry. While ordering we were told that the curries serve 2 people, but what was actually put on our table was a half cup (like a measuring cup) worth of curry with two 2"x2" pieces of black cod. It tasted ok but even the amount of curry we were given wasn't enough to even cover the serving of rice we were provided. They also don't provide knives at the restaurant, which was really strange cause we needed to cut our pork but had to do it with a fork or spoon lol. I would come back and try some of their other dishes, like the lamb chops and Thai tartare.

Yelp
Firstly, it's quite tough to find this place as you have to go through a coffee shop under a different name (there is a side entrance but we didn't find it until we were exiting). Ambiance inside is incredibly cozy- we were a group of 5 all the way in the back of the restaurant. Service was quite attentive but on a few occasions we had to proactively ask for water, wish they just replenished it on their own. However, the food is one of the best I've had in Toronto! We did the tasting menu for $80 (not cheap for the amount of food that came) but the combination of flavors and rich, expensive ingredients made it worth it. Yellowtail hamachi appetizer was one of the highlights, as well as all protein mains. Definitely not a place for vegetarians, but if you like exotic Thai flavors with new ways of cooking eating them I couldn't recommend this place well enough!

Yelp
Make sure to book reservations because it does get rather busy. The place in itself is quite smaller and their cooking place is also their dining hall, so expect there to be smoke and quite loud. Or maybe just the day we went. Either way, prepare. The food is shareables and it's more cost effective that way if you want to try multiple items. Portion sizes are a little on the smaller side. We were 4 and ordered: House Sausage: I didn't eat this since I don't eat pork but my friends said it had a kick which they liked. Oysters: an order comes with 3. It has a bite to it that's very nice. Tastes sorta like baby shrimps. Fried wings: these were rather subpar at least. They felt very generic. Even with the sauce. Wangu steak: quite nice cut of meat. You'll need the lime as by itself it's no flavour. You have to eat it with the cabbage and sauce like an appetizer. Sea bream: it's was nice but quite sweet. It was disappointing to see that it still had bones and it's 1/4 of the actual fish instead of at least a 1/2. Especially for the $48 tag. Not a place I'd venture to again but at least I can cross it off the list.

Yelp
We stumbled onto this restaurant and it was simply magical. First of all, there are a dozen seemingly excellent restaurants on Ossington. From what I can tell, this is THE street for creative, excellent food in Toronto. (This has been confirmed by chatting up some local foodies). But we happened upon this dark place that looked like a closed coffee shop and decided to check it out. Wowza! One of the best culinary experiences we've had ever. Am flabbergasted that it only has a 4.1 rating. Had the ceviche, calamari salad, broccoli and duck curry. Everything was sublime! Service was impeccable!

Yelp
Many people have been telling me that Favorites Thai is their top restaurant recommendation in Toronto, and I have to agree! Attentive staff, a beautiful interior (though with tight seating options), 2 hours of delicious dining. We tried the Tasting Menu and were blown away by the bold flavours. I was surprised by the use of Beyond Meat in the sauce that went with a few of the apps, but it went great with the Beef Tartar. The meat was excellent, specifically the Grilled Pork chops, variety of Sausages, and Sea Food Salads. We also got the wine pairings, which paired well with some sweeter notes to complement spicier dishes. I will be returning!

Yelp
My new favourite restaurant in Toronto with really unique and interesting Thai fusion. There are lots of options for a pescatarian diet and the restaurant uses imitation mean (impossible meat) for a couple of dishes. Sticky rice spring rolls: 9/10 I usually do not enjoy imitation meat but they did a great job masking the taste and was well seasoned. The spicy dip made the dish and was such a nice blend with the sticky rice. Vegetarian curry: Curry was delicious although I wish they gave us more to mix in with our rice. The mushrooms were a substitute for duck and for a $35 dish, I wish there were more variety of veggies given. Oysters: The sauce used on these oysters were bomb. Flavour explosion dish here. Thai tea-ramisu: Super creamy and delicious. Do not skip dessert! Thai favourites also half price wine on Wednesdays

Yelp
This is by far my favourite restaurant in Toronto!! The vibe is so modern and cool with the interior, but still so lively! It's hidden in the back which can throw you off when you fort arrive, but the staff are very welcoming!! I would highly recommend getting the beef tartare and the duck curry - the meat quality here is just top tier are really elevates both dishes!!

Yelp
This is my new favourite Thai place in Toronto - no pun intended. Nestled at the back of a coffee shop, Favorites puts a modern twist on Thai cuisine. I tried the calamari salad which was forgettable though still inventive with ingredients like calamansi. The sea bream and chicken curries were standouts, with the latter being one of the most flavourful curry dishes I've ever had! The broth was rich and delicious, and the chicken was moist and smoky, in a good way. Can't wait to try more dishes here!

Yelp
Scrumdidilyumpacious. I felt like I was in some kind of elite club walking to the back through the coffee shop. This tasting menu was amazing. So much food. The best SALAD of my life. Spicy shrimp salad? Yes please. Everything was amazing and totally worth the price. Would reccomend!!!

Yelp
The food was very flavorful and well proportioned. We did a chefs tasting menu for a group of five people, and we were completely stuffed by the end of the meal. The food that I thought was most unique that you can find anywhere else was the sweet and savory, veggie rice, paper dip, and the calamari salad with herbs. All the food was quite refreshing and nothing was too overly creamy or heavy. only downside is the seating is not very comfortable. We were sitting on a stool for over two hours. Prices are reasonable in relation to the portions and types of food served

Yelp
Came here since it's on the Michelin guide and was very happy with the service. The entrance is somewhat hidden so took me a min to find the place. I highly recommend the thai style oyster which is one of the best oysters I've had. The calamari salad was interesting but not a must try. The wings were very well done, crispy, and flavorful. Overall an excellent experience and I highly recommend

Yelp
Did you know tucked behind a coffee shop, theres a whole secret Thai eatery. The vibes were immaculate and interior ultra IG worthy. But for me, taste is #1 so as usual, lets break down the food! Thai Fish jerky: This reminded me of something inbetween overcooked fish and jerky. The jerky was definitely very fishy Thai style oysters: The oysters were topped with nahm jim, chilli jam, and fried shallots which together, I felt overpowered the natural flavors of the oyster Curry Chicken wings: These were some of the best wings I've ever had. Seriously it was perfectly crispy and well seasoned and this sweet/spicy sauce was delicious too Northern Thai sausage: This was okay, but I believe the sausage was pre-cooked and just heated up before serving since the sausage was barely warm Coconut marinated Lamb satay: This was surprisingly good. It seemed like it was freshly grilled, had good flavor with the meat still being juicy Pad Thai: I was looking forward to the jumbo prawns that were in here, and they did not dissapoint. They were plump and well cooked. However the noodles were a weird mix between too sweet and too salty. The first bite you taste the sweetness but then later on you taste all the saltiness Thai Tiramisu: The texture tasted more like a pudding because it all just mushed together. It was supposed to taste like Thai Milk Tea but I didn't really taste it that much, I'm not sure why. Overall only 1-2 items stood out for me. However those wings were SO good. I want to come back for a girls night another time for some drinks and different snacks after dinner perhaps

Yelp
It's a bit hard to find. Go to Sam James coffee shop and then walk all the way to the back to find the actual restaurant. It's a cute quaint space and they have a clothes rack to hang your jacket. I loved everything that I got. We started off with the oysters which had some sort of Thai sauce that gave it an interesting twist. You must get the chicken wings, they were delicious and crispy perfection. I also loved their pad Thai which was a large portion that's great for sharing. I found it to be less sweet than typical pad Thai (like compared to Pai) which was a nice change because Thai food can get sweet sometimes. The fish sauce they used had a really good umami. I thought the Thai milk tea tiramisu was average - nothing mind blowing. They do have a couple items with ground pork and I overheard the waiter saying they can switch that out for impossible pork if you don't eat pork. I thought that was a great option to have!

Yelp
Cute Thai restaurant tucked away behind a coffee shop. It is surprisingly pretty spacious! Food was delicious but I do wish the portions were a tad bit bigger for the price. Definitely recommend getting the duck curry. @imsuchafatass

Yelp
Not the usual thai menu. This place is great with some vegan options. The spring rolls comes crispy and warm. Couldn't tell impossible meat was used. The curry is so flavourful with perfect amount of spicy. It's hidden behind a coffee shop , got a great speakeasy vibe.

Yelp
Never tried TBBQ before, but I am now a huge fan! Ordered the 8-item chef's choice and enjoyed every single dish, especially the oysters, ceviche, lamb chops, and duck curry. Loved the char, lime leaf and coconut flavours throughout. Entrance ambiance was unique as you had to walk through a dimly lit area past the kitchen where all the smells wafted over to whet your appetite even further. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Part of a longer review... This ultra-hip restaurant is a collaboration between Jesse Fader and Jonathan Poon (Superpoint, Paris Paris) and Monte Wan (Khao San Road, Nana, Bang Sue Bar, and Bangkok Buri), and has been open since August 2019. Although its first year in operation has been a rocky road due to COVID-19, Favorites was recently named the top new restaurant by Toronto Life. While I'd challenge Mark Pupo on that ranking, Chef Haan Palcu-Chang has prepared a small selection of palate pleasers -- available for outdoor dining or takeout -- that combine local ingredients and the familiarity of traditional Thai cuisine as well as a hint of uniqueness. With an edited selection of apps, rice and noodle entrees, and a dessert, the food is approchable (albeit expensive) while staying true to Thai cuisine. Take the Burmese-style green tomato salad ($18), for example. It didn't come at me with a fire hose of heat, but I immediately noticed the garlic oil and acidity from its dressing. Thread-like shavings of cabbage and chunky green tomatoes combined with cilantro and peanuts contributed to this texturally rich dish....

Yelp
Favourites Thai BBQ is the new kid of Ossington as it just opened for a little more than a week. A collaboration between Khao San Road, Paris Paris and Bar Fancy. I came with high expectations but the experience was meh. But since it is new, there are certainly room for improvement. I like that I can make reservations directly on the website. I would not come as a walk in as the restaurant has the capacity of accommodating 30 or so ppl. The communal table is a high top with no where to put your personal belongings aside on the floor. So come light and casual. Menu is basic. If you are a wine drinker, you will be happy with the full page wine list. For beers you only have 2 choices: Tsingtao or Tuesday? No cocktails no Thai Iced tea? Maybe a Thai beer will be nice? Some Coconut juice? The grill in the open kitchen using Japanese binchotan is a great idea because this supposed to enhance the flavour of the food with a higher cooking temperature and less impurities. The aroma of cooking was inviting when we stepped inside the restaurant. We ordered Lamb Chop ($15) and Sausage Combo ($20). The side steamed Jasmine rice was under cooked. I like the dipping sauce for the lamb. The sausage was mushy with no bite to it. The red Thai chili was served whole in both dish. Both entrée failed to impressed. I do love the set up as it feels like a speakeasy sharing the storefront with Sam James Coffee. One never would have suspect there is another restaurant at the back if just casually walked by. Favourites Thai BBQ is a nice addition to this strip. I can see it doing well with the Ossington crowd with some adjustment. But for now, it will be a pass for me.

Yelp
Went in with a larger group of work colleagues. We were accommodated quickly, and had a really wonderful experience overall. We asked for the kitchen to send out recommended dishes to share - the bites were portioned so everyone would get at least one, and the bigger dishes were easily shareable. I was the only vegetarian, and they made sure to bring me a single portion of something I could eat for every meat/fish dish that came out for the group - so I was very well fed, felt equal in experience to everyone else and got to try so many different things! My favorites were the Coconut Braised Oyster Mushroom, Pad Thai and, most of all, the Squash Curry. Everything was full of flavor and well made. Our server was great and recommended wines we all enjoyed. She also made sure I got a delicious dessert! Will try to get here again on future trips to Toronto!

Yelp
Favorites is a trendy Thai restaurant in the Ossington area with a super comfy shoes-off living room style table at the front of the store. Make sure to book the area if you're interested in the private party ambiance. Sam James coffee is located at the front of the restaurant and you won't be able to see the rest of the restaurant until you walk through the hallways behind the coffee shop. The back area is actually quite spacious, but is hidden from view until you walk in. My party and I were able to try a lot of different dishes and all of them packed a punch. The flavour profile of this restaurant is strong - salty, sweet, sour, and the umami from the Thai fish sauce dialed all the way up. If you're not into stronger tastes then this may not be the place for you. They also have a lot of interesting dishes that you probably haven't seen at the usual Thai restaurants. This place is not cheap though so be prepared to pay $$$ if you're looking to try a couple of their dishes. Of all the dishes we tried that night I would recommend their coconut braised smoked chicken with longan, curry of kobocha squash with braised beef brisket, and their wok fried yu-choy with ground pork and peanuts. The aromatic pork rib soup was indeed very aromatic and the flavour is on point (it is salty though and you will taste the salt quite strongly if it cools down), however, the pork rib was too tough in some areas. If the pork rib was more tender that would make this dish much better. Their Pad Thai was also very special and is a dish that they were originally not planning on putting on their menu. This Pad Thai can probably be described perhaps as the adult version of all other Pad Thai? It is much more flavourful with all the flavours that a Pad Thai is supposed have (the tangy, salty, and sweet + other flavours that you won't usually find in a generic Pad Thai) all dialed up. However, their Pad Thai can possibly be too salty for some. Their appetizers & salads I think were okay. Of the appetizers we tried I would recommend the wings - super crispy and the sweet chili dip was addictive or perhaps the Thai sausage. Favorites is owned by the same ppl that own Paris Paris so you will also be able to get an extensive wine list at Favorites. The two wine that we had - Durrmann Riesling sur Schistes and Weingut Brand Wilder Satz were both very refreshing and lightly fruity white wine that pairs very well with the food. Definitely not generic white wines. Overall, I would come back again, especially for the ambiance of the living room seating area and would bring ppl that have more adventurous taste buds.

Yelp
Thai restaurant close to Liberty Village that runs on a hippy vibe. Might be a great spot for friends meet-ups! We took some time locating the place and it turned out to be inside of a coffee shop. We arrived at around 6PM and the place was pretty packed with people. We ordered four items: sausage combo, lamb chop, turmeric squid, and curry. The portions were relatively small regarding their prices. However, they really worked on flavours! Each dish was packed with very authentic Thai taste (spice, tamarind, curry, etc). They even had a green herb with distinctive scent that I have only seen in Asia. Overall, great restaurant that actually serves multiple Thai-inspired cuisine, other than pad thai or tom yum soup!

Yelp
Favorites is a new Thai BBQ place that recently opened on Ossington. This hip eatery is located behind a coffee shop hidden from plain sight. You also do not exit from where you entered from. There is a side door that leads to an alleyway where you exit the restaurant. The space of Favorites is hip and relaxing where there are a variety of plants scattered throughout. In terms of the menu, the dishes are meant to be shared among your party. My friend and I decided to go try Favorites on Sunday night. We had made reservations (which is recommended) as the place does get busy. We wanted to try their thai tea but unfortunately they had ran out. In terms of food, we shared the following items: - Thai style oysters with Nam Jin and chili jam - delicious mix of unique flavours and textures. Definitely a favourite! - Spicy Ontario corn salad with salted duck egg, prawn and peanut - unique blend of different ingredients that work well together. This dish was spicy, sweet, salty, and sour. Definitely hits all the tastebuds and was something that was very unique. - Fragrant PEI scallop curry (with an order of jasmine rice) - the curry was definitely fragrant and packed a punch of flavour which went well with the jasmine rice. The scallops were cooked perfectly. - Northern Thai pork sausage - the sausage is eaten with the herbs they provide for you. We couldnt taste the true flavour of the sausage as the spice from the corn salad overpowered the taste of the sausage sadly. Overall, great unique concept and food! Definitely worth trying. Will be back for more!

Yelp
Favorites Thai BBQ is the backdoor neighbour to Sam James coffee shop, and the latest creation from the team behind Paris Paris, Bar Fancy, and Superpoint. Once you've touched base with the hostess, you're led to a surprisingly spacious area. With the white walls, spotted floors, arched details and modern finishes, it felt like walking into a contemporary Spanish restaurant. Lots of breathing room. What also immediately struck me was the Green Egg bbq parked near the entrance. The famous Green Egg can do no wrong, so definitely the bar was set. Because I'd just had a bite, I actually held off on anything heavy, instead choosing the mushroom salad that came recommended. Served with a heavy hand of fresh mint (not complaining), and a coconut based sauce, the mushroom ended up being more important texturally than flavour wise. The portions were on the smaller side, which would be fine, but the price seemed a bit steep considering what was on the plate. Overall, they're off to a strong start.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! One of the best Thai restaurant in the city. Walked in without a reservation and was able to get a table for 6 as we were the first ones in at 6pm. Thai style oyster is a must get and the smoked chicken curry was so tender and flavourful! Will definitely return to try other items on the menu.

Yelp
Hidden coyly behind Sam James coffee bar down a little dark hallway is a new treasure on Ossington - Favorites Thai BBQ. When you walk in, you are immediately hit with a million different scents of herbs, spices, and the aroma of the grill. Then, beyond that, there is this big, beautiful room with lots of natural light, simple decor, but bright and bold colours and patterns in the floors and dishes. One side of the restaurant is communal tables, while the other side is a banquette with a bunch of two-seaters (likely for the reservations - which we made). It was their first week when we went, so they are working out some kinks. There are no cocktails yet, but a sizeable wine list with a few beers. The focus is on the food. The list is long, and Paula, our server was a great help. We ordered the pineapple snack, eggplant and century egg salads, the sausage platter, the jungle curry and the turmeric squid. We ended up receiving a scallop curry in addition to what we ordered by accident and they let us keep it as a gift. It was the best thing we tried - creamy, herbaceous, citrusy and the right amount of spicy. The sausages were also really good - very soft in texture, just different. The century egg salad was as Paula described - peculiar. There was a burn from the ginger, crunch from the peanut, jelliness from the egg, spiciness from the ginger, and weirdness from the celery. I dislike celery; but yes, definite hit to the senses. Food came out fast, and water was refilled often. The only real nit was the fact that their ceiling was experiencing condensation, so we had to watch out for the occasional drip on the table. They are fixing this. Otherwise, it was a good meal; slightly pricey, but an absolutely great addition to Ossington.

Yelp
Got the pork belly dry curry served with rice which is so far my fav dish there. Also got the pomelo octopus, the lamb chops (so tender) , and the sausages. Everything was very fragrant but on the spicier side. Highly recommend coming here with friends so you can share and try different dishes.

Yelp
Not common to find Thai BBQ restaurant in Toronto! Checked out Toronto's new Thai restaurant, Favorites, which is a collaborative effort between the people behind Khao San Road, Paris Paris Bar and Superpoint! The dishes had bold and interesting flavours! Unfortunately, as a Thai BBQ joint, I found it a big drawback that the grilled items had little to no grill flavour to the point that it could've been cooked without grilling and it would've tasted the same (except for the red curry duck sausage which tasted grilled). Definitely expect to splurge coming here. It's tapas style format, and they recommend 2 items per section. We were two people and got 6 dishes (3 grilled items, 2 curries, 1 snack) and paid about $160. Still left hungry.

Yelp
Tried this new Thai bbq place in the Ossington area, and it was good but not amazing. Portions are quite small for the price (comparing to Pai and Khao San Rd), so I would say you would be paying more for ambience than the food itself. The lamb chops were flavourful, but the seasoning tasted almost exactly like how most Vietnamese restaurants season their pan fried meats (fish sauce with some other spices), and at those restaurants you would get a lot more food for a lower price. The Southern Thai curry was disappointing. Very salty, and inside the curry there was only dried tofu. All in all, I don't think I would come back as there are other places that offer better Thai food along with a cool ambience.

Yelp
This review reflects our second visit to Favorites. The first time, more than a year ago, we loved the food and the service. The second time, we took some friends with us, and the food was almost as good as the last time, even if the menu was bland and generic. So, my negative review is not about the food. Rather, at around 10:15 pm, right around the time we were finishing our dinner and with still quite a few other guests present, the staff of this establishment began cleaning the floors and the kitchen. The stench of bleach, among other unpleasant odours, mixed with our experience of fine wines and complex Thai spices and herbs, and a person in our company with a serious health condition had a negative response to the chemicals. We mentioned our displeasure to our host, and it was communicated to us that this is just how they "do" things over there. This response was not even an apology and amounted to what I would expect to hear from a lowbrow food vendor. It is unsurprising that gastronomists and people in the industry rarely recommend Favorites.

Yelp
Favorites has gotten a lot of recent hype, but the reality didn't match up. I was here recently for some pandemic takeout. Favorites doesn't lack for flavour; every dish tastes bold and intense. However, balance is sometimes lacking. For example, the cucumber salad and pad thai are both completely dominated by the flavour and the chew of dried shrimp. Pork laap had so much fish sauce funk it was difficult to pick up much of the mint. There are some execution problems as well. Pad thai noodles were overdone, and the fried rice was chalky and mealy. Black rice pudding with berries was fresh but a little boring. I'm sure the in-house experience is much different than takeout, but I wouldn't plan on coming back.

Yelp
Great start! However, there are some gaps and it's early. Here's my review. Food ordered: Thai Iced Tea (2), pineapple with pork and palm sugar, lamb chops with tamarind dip/cabbage, PEI scallop curry and rice All dishes had a great punch of flavour. For two people with tips, this was $100 or so. Did I leave happy and satisfied? No. If you want to be truly full, you're probably going to spend well over $100. Pineapple dish could've been helped with 2 more pieces. The scallop curry, scallops themselves were clearly well over cooked sitting in the curry. I would expect to see just done scallops for a $30 curry. Great tasting lamb chops. Something you'd expect at a bbq place. What do we do with all the garnishes on the plate? A server explaining this would've been good. Service: I didn't get a server within 5 mins of sitting. I had to wave down a guy to find one and never did. Instead I found one by just asking another server who walked past by. The curry dish, which was the last took the longest to arrive. We had our white rice already but it was ice cold by the time curry arrived. Not sure if the curry comes with rice or not. Conclusion: Great spot for drinks and some snacks before heading somewhere else. Not so much (at the moment) for dinner.

Yelp
Came here to celebrate a birthday on a Saturday night. We ordered the Pineapple Snack with Impossible Pork & Palm Sugar, Burmese-style Green Tomato Salad, Pat Mee Khorat Stir-Fried Noodles with tofu and Chili Jam Fried Rice. I didn't know what to expect with the Pineapple Snack because I usually stick with safe options but you have to try it - the combination of the pineapple with pork & palm sugar are surprisingly an incredible, delicious combination! Our server highly recommended the tomato salad but I would pass. We didn't put a dent in it or take it home - definitely not for everyone. The stir fried noodles was soo delicious and flavorful - must try! But we would definitely pass on the fried rice as it leaves a weird gritty taste in your mouth. Favorites was worth trying but there a lot of better Thai options in the city.

Yelp
After my trip to Thailand, I vowed never to pay $20 for Pad Thai again but this place went above and beyond what I had expected from Thai food in Toronto. This restaurant does a cool twist on Thai and it fits exactly into the Ossington vibe. I came here for a night out on Tuesday so it wasn't very busy. We got a couple dishes from each section of the menu from the small bites to the grilled plates. My favourites were the pork belly rice dish and the lamb chops. Overall a great experience and our server was attentive and took the time to explain the menu to us. I would come back again - it's great with groups of people as you can try many dishes.

Yelp
One of the best Thai fusion restaurants in Toronto. This place is a hidden gem. Favorite dishes are the oysters, lamb chops and the duck red curry. Can't go wrong with this gem

Yelp
I wanted to love this place, but the portion size was too small, The recipes were bizarre, and some items were too spicy. The ambiance was nice, the decor was cool, the drinks were tasty tho. Perhaps it's just not my style, but it's hard to recommend when the portion sizes are this small.

Yelp
This is a super trendy restaurant in Toronto. It's super difficult to find because you have to walk through a completely dark coffee shop to the restaurant in the back. You're greeted with the smoke from the charcoal grill and the aromas of the amazing Thai food being cooked. Inside, it has a pretty tropical theme and there are huge warehouse windows. The food is pretty spicy and all the food is served with a hunk of lettuce and a spicy pepper on top (I'm not sure why), but the flavors are amazing! Definitely make sure to get something from the grill - the sausage was one of my favorites!

Yelp
Best authentic Thai food I've had in GTA! The restaurant is beautiful and the service is flawless. This is a world-class restaurant providing a top-notch dining experience. The curry we had was complex and layered and left one feeling a little bit euphoric from the spices. The century egg salad was phenomenal and a must have. If you don't understand what real Thai food is all about (i.e. SPICY, SOUR FUNKY FISH SAUCE) and if you don't have a sense of adventure, maybe this isn't the place for you.

Yelp
Fresh ingredients. Beautiful presentation. Knowledgeable servers. Limited seating. Separate room available for intimate gatherings. Wine and beer. No cocktails. Make reservations.

Yelp
Visited with a friend for the first time today after reading the great reviews on Yelp. Google reviews only gave 2 stars, but we were curious to try the new Thai BBQ place BlogTO boasted about. The first test is locating the restaurant. Walk into Sam James coffee bar, and from there the staff will take you down a dark hallway into Favorites Thai BBQ. The restaurant itself is very chic, with a great atmosphere and pleasing set up. Walking to the seating area you will pass the open kitchen where you can see the meals being grilled. Service was excellent. Our server recommended that we order 2-3 appetizers and 2-3 items from the grill. We went for the pineapple snacks, beef curry, sausage combo, lamb chops, and steamed rice. The portions were extremely tiny for the price. The pineapple snacks were $10 for three toonie-sized slices of raw pineapple topped with pork, and garnished with coriander and chilies. The sausages (one duck and one pork) and lamb chops were very flavourful, but again not worth it for the price (two sausages for $20 and three small lamb chops for $22). The curry was really interesting, full of exotic mushrooms and vegetables. There wasn't a lot of beef, and overall it was almost TOO flavourful (lots of different spices that confused us). Two bowls of side steamed rice came to $7. They have an extensive wine list, but again the prices were significantly higher than most places in the area. Our total came to around $110, but we left hungry and unsatisfied. Tl;dr Overall, it's a neat experience if you want to try out Thai BBQ. I don't think I'll be returning, but I don't regret the experience. A+ for the atmosphere and service, the food and price was disappointing.

Yelp
Awesome thai food, maybe the best in the city! Really love the red curry with oyster mushrooms. A tad pricier, but worth the extra $ for special occasions!

Came here with a large group a few weeks ago and haven't been able to stop thinking about their food since!!! If you like spicy, spices, and authentic Thai flavours then you should definitely try.

Yelp
This is true authentic Thai cuisine. Everything single dish surprises you with flavours. Absolutely unbeatable. The flavour of every single dishes were well balanced and you can taste each layer of flavour. The chef really put a lot of hard work and thoughts to create each dish. This restaurant is a MUST!!!

Yelp
Wanted to try this before all the closures and was happy to see they started doing takeout so jumped on it. We had a curry, pad Thai and mango salad. The curry was great, it was the red veggie with mushroom and tofu. Also had the Thai noodles with dried shrimp and mango salad. The pad Thai was just okay, it advertised prawns but they were just tasty little mini shrimps from what I saw. Anyway, the food was good but the value wasn't there. Over seventy bucks for only 3 little dishes - really tasty food but could have gotten pretty close elsewhere for half the price. They should work on that.

Yelp
Good and flavourful dishes that aren't for the uninitiated to Thai flavours and heat. The hot and sour soup is both very hot and sour The service is attentive and the kitchen takes orders up to midnight. Note Monday has a special of soft shell crab pad Thai.

Yelp
First time dining here, and wow, were we blown away! This is not the run of the mill Thai...this is complex, fascinating, delicious bbq. Clean flavors, stunning layers of texture and taste. Lamb chops with tamarind sauce were the best chops I've ever had in my life. House made sausages and whole lake trout were spectacular. The wines are very interesting, and the service is friendly and helpful. If you appreciate great food and love to experiment with flavors, you definitely have to try this place.

Yelp
Unfriendly service AND the server told me a roll with eel was the same price as another (13$) the bill came it was $21. I brought this up and she was rude and aggressive and made me feel uncomfortable and claimed I knew. But I did not seeing as the roll I was charged 21$ was not on the menu.
