Henry Higgins Bagels to Set Up Shop in Sellwood | Eater Portland

"I noted that Feastworks Delicatessen, a sandwich-, sausage- and more spot on SE Tacoma, closed just before Christmas after three and a half years; owner Ashley Bisagna said in a farewell note that buyers will rebrand the space with their existing business, Henry Higgins Bagels, and described Henry Higgins as an “awesome, local bagel company” that will be a great addition to Sellwood." - Tim Forster

Feast on Brilliant is such a quaint community market and eatery. They offer a great selection of high quality goods. And they have a great menu of freshly prepared foods. They have main course options and side dishes available to purchase and take home to eat. They also have a list of sandwhiches that can be prepared, fresh to order and can be enjoyed inside Feast's dining area. On my most recent visit we tried the reuben and the chicken salad sandwich. Both were fresh and flavorful. Just really good food.

Great, cozy little neighborhood market- cafe with great sandwiches, prepared foods, catering, and many gourmet food products. Oh, did I mention a great rotating eclectic wine selection of interesting wine choices you won't find at PLCB stores? Also, frequent wine tastings with wine experts to help explain the wines you're tasting. Best kept secret in the Fox Chapel area.

The harvest ham sandwich was outstanding. Ham, brie, sliced Apple on a brioche bun.

Nice people, nice food. Can be noisy when mom's bring their kids in for lunch.

Wandered in here one day while in the neighborhood. The Good: - Lovely selection of hard to find, independent brands - Amazing chocolate selection that is reasonably priced for the quality - Spotless store with lots of staff The Bad: - Lots of employees, but nobody made eye contact or said hello. I don't expect a fake greeting or to be babysat, but the employees were so distant that it almost felt like I was intruding - Some items are overpriced, and everything runs the higher end of the cost spectrum. Would be nice to see a few more reasonably priced items. Not knocking the store's target market, but a few small items in a lower price range would feel more welcoming The Ugly: I purchased two candy bars for my partner's birthday. I picked them out without help, without so much as a greeting. I brought those candy bars to the counter myself. I used my card, so I paid all by myself. I didn't take a bag and carried them in my hand. All the cashier did was scan the two small chocolate bars. When the register asked for a tip, I hit "no tip". The cashier had been smiling and speaking to me, but as soon as they saw "no tip", they rolled their eyes and walked away, cutting off our conversation and letting me walk out in silence, feeling awkward. As someone who worked in food and beverage, it's intensely frustrating to see people receiving a full hourly wage get so obviously upset over not receiving a tip. I never would have dreamed of acting that way when I lived on tips, and I never would have tolerated it from my staff, even though they lived on tips. It's very off-putting to feel that pressure to pay extra for someone to scan two items. It honestly ruined what was a lovely exploration of a new place.

Went in earlier today and ordered a few lunch boxes among other smaller various items. The staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive. I had my hands full with my two toddlers and the girl working behind the counter offered to help take my food to my car. It was so kind! My guests thoroughly enjoyed lunch and I look forward to coming back. Definitely will be a place we frequent especially since they have your odds and ends (and then some) needed for dinner when you don't want to run to a large grocery.

Stopped in 40 minutes before closing and was told they couldn't make sandwiches because they put the knives in the wash and couldn't cut the bread. Very confusing. There were at least 3 employees working and numerous customers. Food is great, but this is bad service. This is a deli/market, not a sit down restaurant so if you want to close up early, please adjust your hours not waste people's time.

Google
Always a rare treat!! When in town, my wife and I make the trek down to Feast on Brilliant!! This is a really neat little specialty grocery/sandwich shop conveniently located in the center of Aspinwall. The staff is very friendly and helpful and. . the food is delicious. It really hits the spot and you'll start planning your next visit for another delicious sandwich. Special call out for all the unique and delicious sides as well as grocery items. Recently, they have added a sit down area for dining on site. The owner is Patty and she and her staff make everyone feel at home. This is a must visit while in town.

Yelp
Great lunch spot and store in Aspinwall. The staff is always friendly and everything is fresh and made to order. Great selection of wine also

Yelp
Amazing food - and spectacular gluten free options. Free WiFi so that you can remote work. Great set-up!

Yelp
Our waiter was engaged and really good. The food is delicious and healthier than restaurants that use a lot of butter and cream. The prices are reasonable. We will be back for sure!

Brigid N.

Yelp
Great sandwiches. The chicken club is definitely the best one! Friendly staff too. I always call ahead since sometimes they take a bit to make.

Yelp
This was the first visit since their space expansion and what a pleasing first experience! We scored one of the three booth spots to enjoy our lunch ordered at their gourmet deli counter. Their grilled cheese and their soup of the day tomato basil was anything but basic. And my friend ordered approximately a pound of meatloaf with their secret sauce, part of which they made into a sandwich. AMAZING. The service was incredibly helpful explaining how it worked and various options available. Their gourmet specialty food groceries were top-notch also. Always one of my favorite spots to visit when in Aspinwall.

Yelp
Just got a sandwich fresh marble rye bread, roast beef and a lite horsey sauce Outstanding! I will be ordering there again!

Lucile D.

Yelp
Still love them! Love them even more that they expanded and have indoor seating and even more products. They have a kids sandwich that is reasonably priced and comes with goldfish that was a hit. Every salad I get from there is delicious. They also often have piebird desserts and so many other tasty treats.

Yelp
We love this little market! The team working there is always so friendly and helpful! Perfect place to pick up happy hour meats, cheeses, crackers, salsa, etc. my son loves the crepes they sell at the register! I've also recently gotten hook on one of the flavored waters!

Yelp
I don't have any good photos from here, but this is one of my new fav spots for grab and go foods! I have only purchased fresh foods from their deli case that they make daily. There is always a different selection. The pesto, peas, and pasta dish is THE BEST. I would love to use them for catering some time now that I have had so many amazing dishes. I also love the maple salmon, roasted veggies, greek orzo salad, and herb roasted carrots. You can tell the carrots are roasted in really good olive oil. I stop here about once a week. The workers are all very friendly and helpful. You can get premade foods in any size container. The prices are reasonable especially for such high quality foods. It is metered street parking outside, but if you park a few blocks away you can park on the street for free. Stop next time you are visiting all the cute boutiques in Aspinwall!

Yelp
If you live in the Pittsburgh area, this place is a must. The deli food is high quality and the array of products they carry is impressive. We will be coming here regularly.

Yelp
Nice little place in downtown Aspinwall. They have prepared foods and some groceries. We tried the pulled pork and quinoa to go. The pulled pork was very good, not fatty and had a delicious barbeque sauce. The quinoa was equally tasty. The service was very attentive and friendly. Looking forward to trying their homemade meatloaf in the future.

Kimberly K.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. Stopped in for a quick bite and was impressed by the menu options and just the overall ambiance. My husband enjoyed the pulled pork and I had the heavenly ham. The service was nice as well, very friendly staff. Will definitely return again!

Yelp
So good! Love this cute little shop. Food is great. And not terribly expensive. I just wish they were open on Sundays!

Yelp
Feast on Brilliant is, well, brilliant (imagine that!) This shop is tiny, but inside it is filled with magic. It is part deli/prepared foods and part specialty grocer. Their prepared foods are ahhhhmazing.....delicious homemade sandwiches, soups, and a variety of heat-n-eat foods (similar to the Whole Foods hot bar -- though a smaller selection). I grab their chicken romano and roasted cauliflower for a quick and healthy dinner whenever I'm too lazy to cook. Everything is prepared to perfection, uses quality ingredients, and is so tasty! I always feel really good about the food that I eat here. I also feel really good about the groceries that I buy here. They take care to select and stock only the highest-quality and most unique items....tons of local items too! Love that I can get gourmet ketchup, Jeni's ice cream, and my fav white bean and quinoa chips all in one place. That being said, since they are a specialty grocer, they obviously don't stock everything, so it won't replace your regular weekly shopping trip....nor would you want it to, because it is very, very expensive. However, I don't mind paying a premium for high-quality and hard-to-find gourmet items (only once in awhile and in small amounts, of course -- I ain't no Rockefeller!). The owner and staff at Feast are also very warm, friendly, and helpful. Definitely check this place out next time you're in Awall!

Greg K.

Yelp
In a word. Amazing! Have been in town three days and have eaten here twice. Amazing food and wonderful folks working here. So worth the drive, we will be back!!

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't reviewed this yet! I love it here. It's a wonderful market to have in the Aspinwall community. There as so many specialty food items including if you have any dietary restrictions. Their made to our to food is super good. Their sandwiches and sides are all things that I've tried before and have been completely satisfied with. Don't even bother with going to Panera and get yourself a real fresh sandwich! Their orzo, roasted veggie pasta salad is my favorite! Oh and our first visit the owner welcomed us to the neighborhood and gave us a brownie to try.. We know why... Because we are now hooked! Always friendly service and something new to try. Oh and they always have samples out of some of their stuff to intrigue you... It works. Yum!

Yelp
This is, without a doubt, one of my favorite little spots in the city of Pittsburgh. My coworkers love eating here and treated me to lunch during my first week on the job. We've been back pretty much every week since, and it's my go-to choice when it's my turn to pick where we eat! Brilliant Street is charming and this store/deli is no different. It's cozy, clean and bright, and a great place to grab a quick lunch. I've tried a few different sandwiches here, but I'm currently stuck on the Roast Beef & Bleu. I order mine hot, so the cheese gets all gooey and melty. It's also dressed with arugula, which, combined with the bleu cheese, creates the most amazing flavor. If you're ever in the area or find yourself inevitably stuck in traffic on 28, hop over to Aspinwall and check this place out. Feast on Brilliant also offer unique grocery items that you can't find everywhere else. I recently picked up a jar of truffle mayonnaise and a container of truffle butter (can you tell I'm on a truffle kick these days?). They also have freshly made sides to go with your order. The orzo salad always looks sooo good, but I have yet to have enough of an appetite to order some with my sandwich. When I do, I will be sure to report back!

Yelp
Awesome small market carrying a lot of interesting brands which otherwise would not be available in Pittsburgh. Has an old-school market vibe which I appreciate.
google avatar

Veronica V.

Yelp
I really adore this little grocer. It has loads of organic foods and such a warm and welcoming feel. They sell a number of Pittsburgh-based brands which also gives this place bonus points. Their pre-made deli foods are delicious. (I highly recommend the classic chicken salad! I'm hooked on it.) They are pricey, given that it's a small grocery in the heart of Aspinwall, so be prepared for that. And one of the bags of granola I purchased had expired about a month prior to my purchasing - so I would suggest checking dates just to be sure. But this is one of my absolute favorite places to shop. Any time I'm in Aspinwall, I MUST make a stop!

Yelp
Feast is such a nice addition to Aspinwall. I love having a local neighborhood shop that I can run over to easily when I run out of something basic like noodles, milk, fruit, or juice for my kids. But even better are the delicious prepared foods like the meatloaf and the chicken tenders, which my family love, and also delicious vegetarian prepared foods for myself. On top of that there are a lot of gourmet treats that I can't leave the store without picking up, such as specialty cheeses, dips, crackers, chocolates, and cookies. Although I haven't tried it, I know there is also a call-ahead service which I intend to use when I'm not feeling like cooking dinner or if I'm going to have people over. Everything I've brought home from the store has been a hit with family and guests and I know I can rely on finding good basics and extra special goodies every time. I find the prices to be comparable to Whole Foods, and in many cases Feast's prices are better. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable and the shop is clean and organized. I know that if there ever was any kind of an issue the owner would immediately find a way to fix it. I can't recommend this shop enough.

Yelp
Feast is definitely my new "go-to" place in Pittsburgh - I live in the north hills & make the drive as there is nothing in my neck of the woods like this. Even if you eat lunch before coming here, you are still going to have a few impulse buys because everything here is just flat out delicious! Feast is part deli, part marketplace, part café. It boasts wonderful cheeses, an assortment of salads, a variety of sandwiches, gluten free pizza, and fabulous soups. Food is prepared with ingredients from local farmer's markets and made from scratch. So easy to walk in & pick up dinner - their chicken romano is excellent & my kids always ask for the meat loaf wrapped in applewood-smoked bacon. Oh - and I forgot their baked goods - I hate to let out the secret, but you must try the pecan bars! The market inside has a great variety of options of snacks, drinks, dry goods, & unique frozen foods - (we are addicted to the brie/fig mac & cheese in their freezer section.) The ice cream selection is out of this world. If you need that perfect gift for the foodie in your life, this is the place to go. And always lots of samples if you're unsure about the item. I have since discovered Hampton popcorn, Savannah Bee Company Honey, and Tate's cookies - they are now my favorite treats to gift my friends & family. My husband loves Big Tom Spiced tomato juice & the bacon salt they sell to rim bloody mary glasses. The owner is also a great example of a female entrepreneur. The shop is darling & the service is friendly and prompt/efficient. It is so refreshing to see so many unique products all under one roof in Pittsburgh - especially when it is family owned.

Yelp
I occasionally stop here and pick up a cool drink from here. They are pretty overpriced but I tend to look over that since it is so convenient and they carry some cool specialty drinks. But after my experience a few days ago I will not be returning. I was doing my laundry down the street and was short on quarters. So I stopped at Feast on Brilliant, got a drink, and asked for $1 in quarters. The cashier opens the drawer and in it I see a whole roll of unopened quarters plus more. The cashier proceeds to tell me that he has none to spare. Also the store was closing in about 2 hours, not sure how you could use that many quarters in that amount of time. Anyways, all of the other businesses were closed in the area so I had to walk to the bank to get $1 in quarters. I'm just extremely annoyed at their customer service. I've gone in many times and haven't had very good customer service those times either but none as annoying as this.

Yelp
5. I have just moved to aspinwall and feast on brilliant is amazing . I have tried a few of their dishes and all of them have been outstanding. An excellent market.

Linda C.

Yelp
Great experience! Ordered dinner for a friend - the staff was extremely helpful and the food was delicious. I look forward to doing business with Feast on Brilliant again in the near future.

Christin S.

Yelp
If you can't or don't want to cook, but want to eat like you have a private chef, stop by and get prepared food from Feast on Brilliant. The meatloaf with bacon is phenomenal, the pesto and peas bowtie pasta is amazing, and the owner is just the sweetest. She has the best taste and I always know the store has stuff I can treat myself with, from the imported Florida orange juice to the gourmet grocery options. I've ordered catering for small dinner parties and the holidays, and the guests are always blown away. I figure I'm doing my civic duty in supporting a local business, and so I keep eating - win win!

Richard W.

Yelp
Regularly grab lunch here on the weekends. Their sandwiches are great and they always have good / healthy side options. Their basic offerings are gourmet alternatives to the normal staples offered at giant eagle. Friendly staff.

Tegan K.

Yelp
One of the owners got in contact with me, I suppose my previous experience from the past couple of times regarding their hours (closing earlier than scheduled) just overlapped with some unforeseen circumstances where they had to close the shop (only twice out of the last year). I understand they're a smaller local business so that's 100% understandable and I will not dock them for my bad luck! :) They're always super friendly and awesome in there regardless! Support local businesses! And you can almost always come across some really great delectable finds!

Asis A.

Yelp
A hidden little gem in Aspinwall! A quaint little shop only a few blocks from Aspinwall Marina and the newly opened Riverfront Park. I have stopped there 3 times now and always end up tempted by the delicious and unusual options available. Engaging staff, curated options, classic ambiance... A true delicatessen!

Marijo C.

Yelp
Love, love, LoVe this place‼ Great service! Great prepared foods (carmelized onion dip!) ..... Feels like you are in The Hamptons or Cape Cod.... They have bent over backwards to get things that I have asked for... Such sweet local charm ....

Cara L.

Yelp
Feast on Brilliant is fantastic. I've had them cater my events, I go there often for healthy and delicious lunch options, I buy local and specialty products that I can't find in the grocery store, and I recently had them prepare me a holiday basket. Patty and her team are awesome every time, and I think it's a special place. I've only had the best experience.
