We were really looking forward to trying Federal Madrid during our holiday after seeing so many great reviews, but our experience was very disappointing. We arrived as a group of six and only wanted coffee and desserts, so it wasn’t an issue if the kitchen was closed. However, one staff member tried to seat us at a single small round table that clearly wouldn’t fit us. Another server kindly agreed to join two tables, but the staff then continued to argue with each other in front of us and made it very clear they didn’t want us there. It felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming, so we decided to leave. There was plenty of available space to accommodate us, which made the situation even more surprising.
I hope the management takes this feedback seriously, as the place looks great, but the customer service really needs improvement.
Edit: In addition, we have visited Federal’s branches in other cities like Valencia and Barcelona, so we know that this café is usually really reliable. Our family has been in the food industry for more than 30 years, so we truly value good service and how employees and customers are treated. We rarely leave negative comments about others, but it was really unacceptable how we were treated yesterday. I have edited and covered the staff members’ faces in any photos for their privacy, but management can check their own cameras if they wish.
