Where to Eat Near the Pennsylvania Convention Center - Eater Philly

"The Federal Donuts crew recently debuted a new location of the popular fried chicken and doughnut chain. Unlike the other Federal Donuts shops, this one has espresso drinks on the menu, including a “donut latte”: espresso with steamed milk that has been steeped in doughnuts and warm spices and finished with a dusting of baharat. Order online for same-day pickup or swing by from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily." - Sarah Maiellano

Google
Federal Donuts & Chicken on East Market is a true gem for food lovers in Philly. Their crispy fried chicken is perfectly seasoned, juicy, and always hits the spot. The donuts are a delightful treat—made fresh, with creative flavors that change daily. Whether you’re craving savory or sweet, this place has it all. The staff is friendly, the vibe is laid-back, and the food is consistently fantastic. Don’t miss the honey donut with your chicken—pure bliss!

Google
Excellent service. The donuts were unique but just okay.

Google
The server was nice and knowledgeable about the menu options. I got a breakfast chicken sandwich which was okay all I could taste was the spice. The donut was really good not too sweet.

Google
imagine paying almost $9 for 3 tenders and they give you 2.5 minuscule pieces... i didn't have to imagine! good food but the price is absolutely not worth it

Google
Honestly, I stopped by Federal Donuts as a "must try" while visiting Philadelphia... kind of expecting it to be overrated in that regard... but I actually really loved my donuts and did find it to be a few notches above a lot of other donuts / donut places I have enjoyed over the years. I got 2 fancy donuts and 1 hot and fresh, and all three were very yummy, but the hot and fresh (in my case a cinnamon brown sugar) donut was especially delicious and definitely what I would recommend (their hot and fresh donuts, whatever flavor/s strike your particular fancy) to anyone looking to try the best this place has to offer. Can't comment on the food since I only got the donuts, but the donuts (and service) were an easy five stars for me.

Google
A solid experience from my perspective. I probably benefited from their being a local chain as I needed a place that opened before 8am, and most other coffee/doughnut shops within walking distance (I’m game to walk fairly far) didn’t open until 8 on Sundays. The wait was short, and the staff were very nice to my drowsy self. I got the chocolate truffle and s’mores donuts with a 12oz mocha and all of it was money well spent. I’ll likely return during the remainder of my time here.

Google
Very tasty donuts! Tried the cherry cheesecake, s'mores, pumpkin, chocolate and old fashioned. I was most impressed with the cherry cheesecake. Just sweet enough without being overpowering. Nice fluffy center with a crisp crust. Would definitely get more

Google
Every time we get off from work, we would like to visit here and grab some donuts. They all taste good, and also the expensive one is really fancy. They also provided chicken nuggets and wings.

Yelp
Friendly, convenient, and freshly made donuts next to the Roost East Market easily satsified our breakfast craving after a cross country flight to Philadelphia. The old fashioned donuts are made to order and piping hot in the box with a variety of coffee offerings.

Yelp
Decadent donuts and now they also sell a chicken sandwich which seems out of place. I didn't get the chicken but I did get a chocolate glazed donut. It was really good eventhough it was not fresh cooked. I stopped in after dinner on my way back to my hotel for a little dessert and Ii was thinking that it would have been a better choice to go in the morning when everything was fresher. Service was average and there was noone else dining in or doing take our at the time I was there. There is no parking for this place except in a public parking lot. There was nothing special about this place for donuts but I think they offered some interesting flavors and they have some good beverage choices to go with the donuts.

Yelp
Quick bite. Nothing special. It's only virtue is being next to the hotel. 85 characters is too long.

Yelp
We came to Philly for a day and had these on the list to try . The location is conveniently located, food was so good we ended up going to another location a few days later before returning to miami. I gave 3 stars because from the moment we walked in the girl at the counter was not pleasant at all. my husband and I love trying new restaurants & we enjoy engaging with the staff, I'm NOT saying it has to be superb service , but you can tell she either didnt want to be there or has a bad attitude all around which tainted the experience given were from out of town & purposely went there excited to try them.. When we got up to leave we thanked her again and tried telling her how much we loved the food, but she was sitting down on her phone pretty much ignoring us . Loved the food so much we wanted to grab a box before heading back to miami but we went to another location , check out my page for that review .

Yelp
My kids loved these donuts! Affordable and tasty, they devoured a powder and plain donut in mere minutes.

Yelp
Stick to the chicken sandwiches! We had never been and went for breakfast. We ended up getting the breakfast sandwich, and it wasn't very good. It had bacon instead of chicken, and the frozen egg patty wasn't very good. We also tried one of the glazed donuts, and it was dry and cakey. I'd go back just to try one of their chicken sandwiches.

Yelp
It has been a few times that this store is not open on time. Very disappointing. Management needs to be aware of this issue
google avatar

Yelp
Who couldn't love warm fresh donuts rolled in strawberry lavender sugar? Wow! No pics because we just had to eat them right away while warm. Delicious. We also tried the brown sugar cinnamon which was great and the cookies and cream which was surprisingly delicious. Yumminess all around!

Yelp
Located in the Canopy hotel, this place gets mobbed with all the hotel customers. At first the line seemed long but went very fast and the team behind the counter were super efficient and on the ball. The donuts were freshly made . I bought a latte and it was delicious and made just right! Can't eat the the instant processed donut recipe Dunkin' Donuts anymore. Hope there are more Federal Donuts in the burbs soon lucky I have the Wynnewwod Whole Foods location near.

Yelp
Federal Donuts is a Philly fast food chain serving donuts, coffee, and fried chicken. It is conveniently located next to the lobby of the hotel I was staying at- Canopy. It worked out perfectly because we planned to get an early start on one of the days and this place opens at 7am. When we came down in the morning around 7:10, they were not open though. I saw a few people sitting outside waiting. One of the workers signaled that they'll open soon. I think one of them was late. When they did open, I ordered the breakfast sandwich- steamed & fried egg patty with Cooper sharp cheese, bacon, & cherry pepper relish on a potato roll. It was not for me. The bacon was thin and I didn't enjoy the relish. I should've gotten a fried chicken sandwich like my friend instead. However, I did enjoy my strawberry lavender donut.

Yelp
I'm a Phish fan, so I knew about Federal Donuts from their involvement with the "Baker's Dozen." Wanted to make sure to include it as part of a meal in Philly and came away pretty disappointed. The chicken sandwich was average at best and the donuts were very forgettable. The cleanliness of the restaurant resembled what it looks like on the floor at a Phish concert after the houselights come back.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Great donuts but don't sleep on the breakfast sandwich, it's very good with that egg patty, bacon and pepper relish that all blend well. Donuts are on the smaller side but sweeter because of the glaze, but still a solid donut. Their plain coffee was pretty good too. Service was peompt and friendly. We stayed at the Hilton attached to it, so was a much cheaper breakfast option than eating at the hotel.
google avatar

Yelp
Chicken sandwich was a dry plank and it wasn't a one-off. It's happened several times at different locations. The quality has deteriorated. It's a big bummer. I am rooting for them to get back to what they once were!

Yelp
May very well be the best donuts I've ever had, and I'm not a big fan of donuts. I've heard a lot of people suggest not to skip out on the strawberry lavender donut - and they were right. Hands down, the best donut I've ever had! Soft on the inside, and slightly crunchy on the outside. The flavor is truly unique, and I'm having trouble describing it. I wish I would've ordered a dozen of them. I also got a half dozen of the fancy donuts. The pralines & cream was my favorite and there also was a tea-flavored one I believe is called lavender London fog, but luckily for me it didn't taste like tea at all, more like a regular frosted donut. It was still good. Among my least favorite were the blackberry crumble and the spiced pear a la mode. They were pretty, but too sweet for me. I also got a breakfast sandwich which was amazing as well. I didn't know what to think of the egg patty because they steam and fry it, but it was still soft and juicy. Not pictured - I also ordered the cookies n cream donut. It may have tasted better if I ate it hot, but it was kind of average. I would recommend visiting to try the donuts and the sandwiches. I believe their fancy donuts are seasonal, so I can't wait to come back and try their new flavors. If you do visit, expect to wait a couple of minutes depending on the time of day. I placed my order online and arrived at the store 5-10mins later at 8am on a weekday and still had to wait an extra 5mins, which was not too bad.

Yelp
after long morning of walking, finding Federal Donuts open with some seats open was the welcome sign i needed. the coffee is served hot which was much needed on a a particularly cold winter day. paired that coffee with an old fashioned glazed doughnut. the coffee was standard good coffee, fresh drip coffee is always a win in my book. the doughnut had the right amount of sweetness and softness without being saccharine or mushy. the space is very clean and neat. there's seatings for groups as well as these old school classroom type seats for solos. the vibe by staff was friendly and welcoming. doughnut + coffee + being off my feet for 15 minutes was just what i needed to recharge for exploring the vastness of Philadelphia.

Yelp
Located on the ground floor of a lovely hotel, this spot has some great donuts! Federal donuts seems to have some unique flavors. Service is quick and there is seating available if you'd like to sit and enjoy a snack.
google avatar

Yelp
I came for a donut but was sad to see they didn't have as many available options at the moment as I expected they will. However the one I ordered was really good. It was fairly priced and the size was decent. I wish they had some of the donuts I saw on their instagram but I guess I have an excuse to come back.
google avatar

Nancy M.

Yelp
Stopped in late one afternoon and there were no glazed donuts, which is disappointing. That should be a staple and always available. The service was friendly and we ended up getting a couple of specialty flavored donuts, which were really good but didn't taste like the flavors they claimed to be. The restaurant itself was clean and comfortable and the wait for the donuts wasn't too long. They were piping hot, which was wonderful!

Yelp
Pleasant surprise during my work trip to Philly. Not sure of this is a local or regional chain but I can wholeheartedly recommended both their donuts and their chicken sandwich. Who knew you could do both equally well? For the latter, I'm a big fan of the perfectly crisped chicken breast with the buttery bun. So good. Pair with ample hot sauce.
google avatar

Shilpa M.

Yelp
Chicken and donuts - a unique spot in Philly. The chicken wings lean towards Korean wings style. Wings have a lot of meat and are crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The Za'atar seasoning on it is good. The raspberry donuts were a little sour, if you like that. Fried Chicken on salad was good. The regular donut that comes with the wings was too sweet for me. On Thurs evening, it closed before dinner time 7pm, though it's in a hotel.
google avatar

Robert P C.

Yelp
Over priced for their doughnuts 29.00 for a dozen doughnuts not worth the prices Had better tried it once that's enough. Coffee was good though .
google avatar

Wen Na Z.

Yelp
I love cake donuts so I was ecstatic that Federal Donuts was right across from our hotel. They do have unique flavors like baklava, fig mascarpone, and dirty chai. My brother and I both agreed that baklava was one of our favorites. For half a dozen donuts, the total came to about $16-17, so it can be a bit pricey.

Yelp
This place does the weird deja vu thing for me. Like I feel like I've been here, or heard of it, or seen it before. I've only been to this city twice in my life and neither time stopped at FedDo. That's what I'm calling it now, it's a thing. They do have a bathroom, and although it's roped off, I think that does a good job at keeping people out who otherwise might track fecal matter about, or carve their FeetFinder handle into the mirror. Point is, the bathroom is well cared for, and clean. While they have a smaller selection of ready to go donuts. They look amazing. I wanted to get more than one but sometimes you gotta save it and keep the diabetes at bay just a bit longer. We got one Blueberry and an Apple Cinnamon. These little dough boys were scrumptious. I've never had oatmeal on a donut. The batter was intense, the inside was crumbly and cake like. It was delightful. You just have to get one. I'm sure the chicken wings or other hot items are worthwhile too, but that wasn't why I came here. We really stopped in for a bathroom, and we're blessed by coffee and really good donuts. If I walk by again, I'll try something else. I spent 5 minutes smelling the sweet, succulent, warmness of our neighbors hot, fresh, made to order donuts, and my only regret, is I wasn't patient enough.
google avatar

Ryan Y.

Yelp
We came to Federal Donut to get some shelter from the cold and rain, but quickly concluded that this is a must visit when coming to philly. We ordered the banana pancake donut after recommendation from the staff, and it was delicious. Though the donut looked thick, it was not dense. It was fried, but had a great cake-like texture, moist, and covered in a frosting and crumble that was not too sweet.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing local donut chain! This location in particular is located within The Canopy Hotel in center city Philadelphia. If you are staying in this hotel, grabbing morning coffee and breakfast here is super convenient. There are standard donuts that are continuously produced and available when ordered. There are also a few on-demand options (usually powdered) - these are cooked and powdered to order and therefore take longer. Coffee options are fairly standard and well prepared. Each day they have a breakfast sandwich available as well - prepared to order as well.
google avatar

Allen Y.

Yelp
Philadelphia icon for breakfast Pros: quick service. I got the 3 chicken tenders with a honey donut as well as a dozen novelty donuts. The chicken tenders come with choice of dry rub as well as two dipper sauces. They have a unique dry herb blend (Z'atar) that was super flavorful and an Everything Rooster dip that reminded me of a more acidic Cane's Chicken sauce. Cons: the chicken tenders were crispy and had flavorful rubs, but the meat itself was a little dry. Overall, good place for a quick stop for breakfast. More unique than dunkin donuts and you can satisfy both your sweet and savory desires.

Mark C.

Yelp
Complete Jekyll and Hyde experience at this Fednut location. Sometimes, the buffalo chicken sandwich is delicious and juicy. Other times, it's overcooked, hard to chew and undersauced. Sometimes the soda fountain works perfectly. Other times, a different manager insists "it never works, I don't know why it's still here." (Today - Coke Zero was flat, Diet Coke was mostly water, regular Coke tasted wrong - and you needed to ask for ice). At least the fries are always excellent. But how about a little consistency in the rest?
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
Walked by and decided to treat myself to a donut. I have been to other locations before, so knew they would be good. I'm excited by their selection most of the time and think that they do some great 'simple' flavors really well. They donuts are well sized and a good price. I am a vegetarian, so haven't had any chicken. But, really - just go for the donuts!
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Got a quick breakfast and some coffee Breakfast sandwich was tasty and came out quickly. A few places to sit but most people were grab and go. Recommend for a breakfast on the go.
google avatar

Cherie C.

Yelp
Here's the thing: I don't care for donuts. But the love of my life does. So I sometimes end up at donut shops. Luckily for me, FedNuts offers more than donuts. They have breakfast sandwiches, decent coffee, and chicken, all of which I do enjoy. The chicken with zataar is a favorite. So are the zataar fries. And when out-of-town guests are here, I'll bring them for the donuts. If you want a ridiculous, sweet, caffeinated treat, get a donut latte. I've tried it once and it was a lot of fun. This location is convenient when I'm running errands.
google avatar

Kelly T.

Yelp
Delicious hot fresh donuts! We came here in the afternoon as our last stop on our weekend trip. I am obsessed with donuts and these land high on my list. Even though we got there very late in the day they still had majority of the flavors because they were making them fresh. We got the hot cake donuts in the lavender and cinnamon sugar. they were small but the perfect bite to satisfy your sweet tooth. Very fluffy, soft and moist.
google avatar

Talika B.

Yelp
Every time I come to Philly. This place is a must visit. Donuts for days. I love love love this place. Perfect way to start your morning and end your day. Thank me later
google avatar

Joey W.

Yelp
Old fashioned donut - the donut is a cakey one. The glaze was very very sweet. I'd recommend a different donut if you prefer something less sweet. Fried chicken sandwich - the chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The rooster sauce added a nice kick to the sandwich. I loved how well the dill pickles complemented the sandwich. The American cheese was not melted and I couldn't really taste it so probably could do without. The bun was also not toasted so it was a little soggy.

Yelp
This donut spot has been on my radar for a while! There was one under the Goldie location I went to, but it was closed. So I had to walk a couple of blocks to get to this one which is connected to a hotel. I saw some donuts in three sections of their shelves on the back wall, so knew I would be getting those at least. But I had to confirm if those were the only donuts are available. There were 3 others that are made fresh, so I went for it and got half a dozen to go! I had flavors such as cookies & creme, blueberry, s'mores, cinnamon sugar and sweet potato pie. GOOD donuts! In the selection that was available, I found that there was a high reliance on that fine sugar on most of them. While it didn't make it taste bad, I thought it took away from the uniqueness of each donut. That being said, I think the s'mores one was my favorite. Federal Donuts has a great and consistent base donut, so it's one of those cases where you can't really go wrong. I will be returning to try other flavors!
google avatar

Maddie S.

Yelp
Service is great! Coffee is pretty good! I wish they had more of a donut selection but I will say the cannoli donut is super delicious. We also tried the chicken sandwich and it was great as well. It does get busy in there so anticipate a wait in the morning!
google avatar

Karen Y.

Yelp
Good donuts. Especially the fresh ones! Their cookie & creme is amazing and also tried their fancy one - "cannoli" that's a yes! Not so great, the glazed chocolate, banana Nutella, as well as the cinnamon brown sugar. Maybe it's the flavor... but the glazed chocolate tasted like oil... as for the cinnamon brown sugar, well... didn't taste any brown sugar. Meh. I would also give thumbs up for their breakfast sandwich - bacon, egg, & cheese w/ a pepper relish. My kids loved it! Nice staff, friendly and clean spot. Lucked out with our quick trip to Philly & Federal Donut was across from our hotel! #yelphappy #sweetfeasting
google avatar

Julia X.

Yelp
the donuts here were just okay. i'm more of a cake donut fan than yeast donut fan, but wasn't that impressed by these donuts... doughnut plant in nyc is a million times better. we had the strawberry lavender and a specialty cherry cheesecake donut. i had high hopes for the strawberry lavender since everyone commented positively on it, but i couldn't really taste anything except artificial strawberry. also, my partner wants to add that if you want still water here, be prepared to drink out of the sink, as they only have a tap for soda water. the service, however, was really friendly.
google avatar

Nooshi B.

Yelp
Friendly little donut shop that we stumbled into. They had a decent selection around 3:00pm as well as a few flavors that they make hot and fresh! We decided to do that and went with the Brown Sugar and Cinnamon. It took about 6 minutes and we were on our way. The donut was more on the cakey side which I liked and despite half of the toppings ending up in the bottom of the bag, the donut was super flavorful. Prices were good and service was great.
google avatar

Jesse N.

Yelp
I ordered a breakfast sandwich, but they ran out of eggs. . Their donuts look interesting though. Fair warning, they use food dye to color their donuts. The coffee is a little more bitter than I'm used to but that doesn't mean it isn't good. Just not my preference. The servers were friendly and sweet. The vibe is a bit cold. Not a place to hang out rather get your stuff and leave.
google avatar

Amy N.

Yelp
I know this is a donut shop but their chicken strips were the best I've had and I've had many in a lot of different states! They also added a little donut with my strips and it was really fluffy and tasted fantastic! Would definitely recommend and will be returning when I'm in the area
google avatar

Justina A.

Yelp
Yummy donuts and fun flavors that get switched every season/every few weeks. They are pretty pricey for donuts and are definitely on the smaller size, but they are dense and packed with flavor!
google avatar

Annie S.

Yelp
Delicious and unique donut flavors with good coffee! Coffee We got the donut latte which wasn't too sweet. Black and tan was good. Vietnamese coffee wasn't as sweet as I thought it would be. Overall, I'd order the black and tan if you are going with an iced option. Donuts We tried the passion fruit tahini, super banana pudding, berry marscapone and chocolate old fashioned. I love banana and passion fruit, and these flavors were very impressive and my favorite.
google avatar

Gab G.

Yelp
This location is super new; it's nice and spacious and has some outdoor seating. ALMOST makes up for the nearby OG location closing, ha. My boyfriend and I stopped in and had: + Passionfruit tahina doughnut + Strawberry rhubarb doughnut + Cinnamon brown sugar doughnut + Strawberry lavender doughnut + Fried chicken sandwich My favorite doughnuts were the passionfruit, cinnamon sugar and strawberry lavender (looove the hot ones). Chicken was great as always, too!
google avatar

Yelp
I had to hit @federaldonuts because it was teachers convention and how else does one celebrate?! Ya gotta eat! Pictured is their Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Donut (in my mind, it's the healthy option), the Banana Split, and their Dirty Chai. Although u Kaye, I can't say I was super impressed. I'm hoping to visit a second time to adjust my review. Of the donuts I tried, I enjoyed the apple cinnamon oatmeal donut the best.
google avatar

Anitha K.

Yelp
Get the Chocolate cream pie donut and the hot & fresh brown sugar cinnamon (made to order). Both are SO GOOD. I love the fresh ones since they are hot but that chocolate cream pie one was also super moist and delicious
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
I give their fried chicken sandwich a few tries and every time, it just doesn't "wow" me. It tasted overfried and too salty for my taste. Their donuts are OK. Ordered a dozen of it for my coworkers. It tasted more on the cakey side. It has a good amount of sweetness to it and was not too dry. Plus side is that the staff were super friendly and the place was clean.
google avatar

Vu T.

Yelp
Not the biggest fan of cake donuts, however, I absolutely love their fried chicken. Tenders, sandwiches or chicken are all delicious. Their fries are insanely good as well, crispy and fresh. The worker always friendly and the space is always clean.
google avatar

Payal P.

Yelp
Ended up getting donuts at Federal. Federal has a good variety of speciality donuts (sprinkled with potato chips, toffee, etc.). The donuts are very soft on the inside. The outside has a nice layer of frosting.
google avatar

Olivia P.

Yelp
Federal donuts are all cake donuts. They have quite a few options to choose from, and based on previous photos, they rotate. I enjoyed each donut I got here. They are incredibly moist! Not dry at all! I highly recommend making a quick stop here and at least splitting a donut.
