The Best Margaritas in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"With locations in the FQ, Uptown, and Mid City, fast-casual Felipe’s is a convenient spot for fresh or frozen margaritas made with lime juice freshly squeezed by the bartenders. Although always reasonable, Wednesdays are a steal, with margaritas just $5. Step out of the usual and try a blueberry thyme margarita, made with local blueberries." - Beth D’Addono

Quick and yummy Mexican cuisine. Love going here for lunch. Order what you want and how you like it. The restaurant is clean and the ingredients are fresh. Loved it! 😊

Google
My favorite place to eat. It's like a family reunion when I visit. I love it. Becky, Mike and Amy are my favorite bartenders. Thomas is the best GM ever. He greets me everytime he sees me. I may visit today ☺️

Google
Came in during a lunch rush, line moved fast. The carnitas tacos tasted like your typical taco place. The horchata pairs well with the tacos. Will be back very soon 🙂‍↕️

Google
Walked in not realizing this was a make your own burrito place, stepped outside to look up other options. The manager followed us outside asking if we were going to come in and eat, we said no because it was not what we were looking for, he got VERY pushy when we said we were looking for something more authentic and just wanted a regular sit down and order type restaurant saying other places were bad compared to them. We said we weren't interested more than once and he just kept pushing, it was honestly extremely uncomfortable.

Google
Chill spot for after work !! Went to the uptown location, and a private event was happening(#Rollwave💚💙🤍🌊). The manager gave us a complimentary drink , or Burrito, for the inconvenience. I've been loving this establishment since college days. I love a good margarita and taco....

Google
I forgot how great the food was. I moved to the north shore and been sleeping on my food game. Went to a wedding and was hungry wife does not eat any food from buffets. We rolled in dressed up and had the most amazing food. Don't eat trash food.Dont eat from buffets. Eat kick ass food live happily ever after

Google
They are like a version of chipotle but they have chimichangas and flautas. They take your order but they messed up on mine like 4 times. Flavor is ok. Pricing is very expensive for the food and type of restaurant since it’s self served. Flautas are very little. The only thing is that is open late and the area is good. And also the place is very clean. The lady cleaning kept on looking at us making us feel very uncomfortable. Maybe closing time was close but either way it’s good.

Google
So I decided to drop into Felipe’s on Carrollton and I have to say their happy hour special for two was spot on!!! Me and my homie both had the three tacos special and a double shot margarita, when the bill came I was super happy… Thank you for being a most amazing bartender Amy and kudos for Manager Erika for just engaging with us. The vibes was nice, real nice and clean… definitely worthy of another HH.. if you wanna know how much it was just be curious and check it out.. well done Felipe’s on Carrollton. My belly full omg it’s time to sleep zzzzzz

Yelp
Having worked in the food industry, I would like to comment on our experience -- at your taqueria--in Carrollton, LA. I am here on holidays from Canada (this was my first time at any of your taquerias). As we were enjoying our highly tasteful burrito, TOMAS, the restaurant General Manager approached us and introduced himself. Tomas asked how everything was. I commended the exquisite taste of our meal. Unfortunately, also expressed my disappointment (being from Canada) for not been given the choice of coffee. Tomas explained why, and understanding my unique desire, provided a tailored solution. Within minutes he arrived at our table with, not one but 2 cups of coffee and a sample of your scrumptious flan. Such management decision can only come from extensive knowledge and his ability to build strong customer relations. We found his disposition as a manager to be, pleasing, friendly, accommodating, approachable, knowledgeable, professional, equal to none (As I have experienced). Tomas showed to be a great asset to your company. Therefore, i will definitely recommend your restaurant. The rest of the staff was also very pleasant. BIG thank you to all for providing an unforgettable experience. Gillian.

Yelp
Came here with 2 others as they were in the mood for tex-mex, which is usually fine with me. Since it was my first time, I was following the directions on the menu to order a burrito, but the server got really frustrated when I was simply following the directions of choose your entree, protein, toppings, etc. Come on man, it's not like the location was busy at all. The burrito I finally got was just okay, as the steak was a little overcooked, but the veggies and sauce were tasty. I didn't feel like sending it back since my experience at the counter wasn't very nice, plus I was actually hungrier than I thought. Be wary of this location. Currently working with one of the managers about this experience. They are certainly showing care and concern to address this situation in a timely manner.

Yelp
Felipe's is a solid choice for fast casual Mexican style food. The carnitas and steak are moist and tender. Crispy cabbage, pico, and yummy black or churro beans round out a protein bowl. Don't miss the salsa bar!
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered two catering orders: fajita bar and taco salad bar. One for the last team meeting for the end of year and another for a small gathering at my home. The customer service was great and so was the presentation. The delivery driver gets an A+ from me. They came in and set up the food excellently. The food? It was just OK, particularly considering we live in the food capital of the nation. The flavors feel safe and commercial. Will I use them again? Probably. It was fast and at a reasonable price point.

Yelp
Love the super burrito! Also, they are remodeling with a new fresh look! Best fast food!

Yelp
Service, food and vibes were all great! I totally prefer this location to the new one out in Metairie. The bartender was training but so attentive and made a great margarita!
google avatar

Yelp
This review is based on a catering order for a work-related event. The box lunch consisted of a your-choice-of-protein burrito and tortilla chips and pico de gallo. The chips were light and crispy and the pico was fresh. My steak burrito was 90% refried beans, 5% rice and 5% meat of some sort. I assume it was steak, but it could've been some other part of the cow for all I know. The box it came in was cute, though.

Yelp
Amazing burrito bowls and California burrito!! Highly recommend! California burrito is pretty unique, in that it has French fries in it...but wow, it tastes good!!

Yelp
Delicious meal. I have had past issues with the service, but this was a great experience! Everyone was friendly and efficient, and the food was flavorful and tasted fresh. I will happily come back!

Yelp
There was a bit of a wait but while we were in line, brownie sundae samples!!! They make everything in front of you for a reasonable proce. Food was fresh and good! Will be back!

Yelp
Felipe's was on my try out list of restaurants. I was trying to decide between nachos or a burrito.. I settled for a regular sized burrito stuffed with al psstor, guacamole, queso, and pico. The flavor could have been so much better. However, my food was beyond lukewarm. I was so disappointed. I was looking forward to really enjoying my burrito. Now, I wish I would have gotten the nachos,, it wouldn't have stung as bad perhaps.. I sat outside since it was a lovely day. Nice location. I'll get the nachos next time. Too bad the highlight of my experience was sitting outside and not the reason I came there, which was the food.
google avatar

Jovan W.

Yelp
Staff here was very helpful and friendly. I love their grilled shrimp. However they didn't have any. They only had fried shrimp, and the gentleman that waited on my was so helpful in telling me that I'll only get 6 shrimp with a plate full of nachos. So I opted for the steak instead with grilled veggies. And it was delicious. Everything was fresh and add to order. I also splurged and had a frozen watermelon margarita. Which was amazing as well. They made my little me date a wonderful outing. Will definitely recommend this for group or even in my case lunch with myself

Yelp
4/5 for food and drinks, 3/5 for service. Went in during happy hour on a weekday and it wasn't too crowded. It did take quite a while to get my food and drinks. The service was not the friendliest. I can't complain too much for a $5 margarita and $2 tacos though. The margarita tasted pretty strong to me! I added the mango syrup but couldn't really tell it was there. I like that there are small and large options. The food line is separate from the bar and kind of like an assembly line. They have a small salsa bar that also has extra toppings (onions, jalapeños, pickled radish etc). I went with the tinga chicken tacos and a fried shrimp taco. Both were very good but next time I think I'll stick with the tinga! There was a hint of spice but not too overwhelming. The jalapeños and salsa roja went really well with them. The queso con carne is a great option to split across the table. There is ample seating inside and outside. It was nice and mellow outside so we opted for that. I've heard good things about other dishes but I'd come back for the happy hour specials and that tinga chicken.

Yelp
Felipe's was one of the first places I went to when I moved to Nola. I've always thought it was yummy. It's a go to when I want a burrito. Food is good and consistent. I also really like the set up of this location. If you're looking for something casual and filling, this is the place to go.

Keri R.

Yelp
In addition to tasty, fresh food, the service is great. All the servers are friendly and eager to please, especially Joceline, who almost always has a smile on her face and a great memory for detail, like your regular order and how you like it.
google avatar

Jamie R.

Yelp
I have been going to Felipe's since they opened off of Claiborne, a long time! I love that the beans and rice are vegan and also that I can get a burrito with really yummy grilled veggies, because I DON'T EAT MEAT!! I went to Felipe's today and the person in front of me ordered a burrito with I believe the Chicken Tinga, the sauce got all over the counter and the person working at the counter didn't clean it up properly so the sauce from the meat got on my tortilla. It was NASTY! I said there is no way I am eating that and walked out. I seriously doubt I will be back and if you have any food allergies or are vegan/vegetarian maybe be careful about going here because you might end up eating something you didn't want to!
google avatar

Ethan N.

Yelp
Food super overpriced and they didn't tell me meat was extra until the register and the woman was so stingy. And the cheese wasn't melted. And they took my money and didn't give me change.
google avatar

Natasha M.

Yelp
My husband and I came by for a late dinner. The place was quiet on a Monday night but the food was pretty good, as usual. The servers were friendly but this review is all about the store manager, Tomas. I was sitting outside with our food waiting on my husband while he was getting beers. There was a man pacing and talking incoherently to himself and was becoming slightly agitated. Being the only one sitting outside at 8:45pm with this man just 5 feet away, I was getting nervous myself. Felipe's manager, Tomas, came outside and was pretending to enjoy the night breeze while at the same time making sure I was okay and slowly yet surely leading this man to the side, talking to him until he left. Tomas made me feel safe and we truly appreciate him. He was as smooth as he could be without being unkind to anyone. This world needs more people like him.
google avatar

Ronaldo K.

Yelp
Felipe should be absolutely ashamed of himself. The food is incredibly bland and overpriced. The steak looks like the un brushed gums of my grandma. Although I will say their service is adequate and their ambiance is aight. Don't eat here tho the food sucks.
google avatar

Robin L.

Yelp
I always enjoy getting burritos from here. The chicken tinga is one of my favorites to choose. It's spicy and has a great kick to it. Throw in some queso and chips along with a margarita and it's a perfect night to enjoy A Mexican meal. We also got a fried fish super burrito which was lightly breaded and fried with our choice of fillings.
google avatar

Frank J.

Yelp
Good food. Used to be cheaper. But i still come back often i love the quesadilla and hibiscus tea
google avatar

Imran S.

Yelp
I was in the mood for nachos and apparently the only thing open is Felipe's. First let me say I appreciate them being open during these times - thank you I normally don't go to Felipe's because they tend to have long lines and generally aren't that efficient, but beggars can't be choosers so i went again, it was a bit chaotic as they had a LOT of take out/online orders which were being done on the same counter as they in store take out order (why they just didn't use the other counter to handle the take out orders ‍) i ordered the nachos and felipe special of quest, guacamole, and salsa. the nachos can be topped with a variety of toppings and overall the flavor of both the nachos and the salsas were good but the person making my food was also making others food, grilling meat, and going in the freezer grabbing things all with the same glove and everyone behind the counter was right on top of each other - in this time of precautions, there were limited to none
google avatar

Beryl D.

Yelp
This location is sooooo much more convenient than the one on Peters. For starters, there is not as much of a rush, which means it's less stressful and theres less pressure to quickly place an order. The staff was super friendly and helpful. At their recommendation, I ventured away from my usual to try a chicken chimichanga with veggies and some sort of special chipotle sauce. It was amazin!

Emely T.

Yelp
Come here very often it's clean and has friendly staff especially Daylin,Jocelyn, and Tyra!
google avatar

Truvae D.

Yelp
Never ever been disappointed. Keep in mind it's a Taqueria! My food is always fresh! I normally get a bowl with chicken but today I was feeling like a quesadilla! I had a chicken quesadilla with cheese, pico, cilantro, onion, sour cream and baja sauce. It was filling for me! Lunch lines can be long and service may be a little slow but it's really upon the customer and what you order! If you feel like they take too long, go to Taco Bell. LOL I love this place during cinco de mayo! It's always packed and they provide live music. Oh, if you want to get a little tipsy, try a house margarita!
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
I order food from Felipe's all the time. Every time I order I see a $13 or $15 chimichanga and think, no damn way I'm spending that for a chimichanga. Last month I gave in and ordered it. All I can say is wow. It's worth every penny and I've ordered far more than I should admit to over the past month. My only complaint is that trace Leche cake has not been on the menu recently. A fat kid needs cake with his chimichanga.

Yelp
Hubby , Son and I are passing through on this Beautiful Sunday. Great job. Awesome Vibes !!!
google avatar

Lauren V.

Yelp
You get burritos here. That's their tea. Al pastor is the best! Side of chips and queso is great too. We order more times a month than we should
google avatar

Lindsey B.

Yelp
Who doesn't love felipes???? My favorite go to meal is the shrimp quesadillas and you get to add anything you want to it! And your sides get to be queso and chips! Love! Their queso is the domb! I also love their margs! Each location has their own feel. Mid city has a fun side bar, the one downtown is obviously wonderful because their bar is almost completely separate from the restaurant so you feel like you're at a real bar. And the one uptown is more of a grab and go type place. Everything's delicious!
google avatar

Renee H.

Yelp
The drinks and the atmosphere were great for Cinco de Mayo, but the food wasn't the greatest. The tortilla shells were undercooked and the meat was skimpy. I will try them again but I am not holding out real hope for the food. Friends were meeting us to hang out and they chose to eat another restaurant before they showed up. I definitely have had better Mexican food and I don't see myself running back any time soon. The service was great with how busy they were and the chips and dip were really good. The owner reached out about the review and we will see about giving them another try with the hopes of updating.
google avatar

Tori M.

Yelp
One of my favorite go-tos for a quick lunch. All of the ingredients always taste delicious and fresh. I've probably had every item on the menu by now since I live right here in MidCity. I often carry out and have yet to had ANY mistakes with my order (and that's saying something because everyone makes mistakes sometimes lol). When I dine in, I sit at the bar. The bar tenders are friendly and the margaritas are strong (and delicious, of course). Today was no exception. With everything being a mess with the current pandemic, Felipe's has their process figured out down to a science. I love to sit outside and drink a frozen strawberry margarita and much on queso on a summer Friday.

Stephen M.

Yelp
Never order take out from here. You'll wait for an hour minimum after it says your order is ready
google avatar

Alesia A.

Yelp
Good ole Felipes! You can't go wrong with them. Even though I didn't get food this time, the experience was still great. I sat at the bar with a couple of my friends. The sangria special was going on so we decided to have those. I'm usually a margarita drinker when I go to Felipes, but I couldn't complain about $3.50 sangrias. They were really tasty and sweet, but not too sweet. I really enjoyed them! Two thumbs up Felipes!!!!
google avatar

Kevin P.

Yelp
This place is so convenient, it's literally down the street from my school and I go here very often. After an exam or long day at school, grab the squad and we hit this for the margaritas! Every single time, their margaritas never disappoint. They are strong, great tasting, and affordable (especially during happy hours). I love this place for its margaritas. Hands down some of the best quality for the price margaritas in town. Service is decently fast even on busy days. The whole venue itself is a nice chill vibe. At night there's a nice ambiance to it that is great for going out but still having personal quality. They also have outside seating which is great for bigger parties and crazier talks lol! The food...is where this place could do better! I switch up what I get every time so I've tried almost everything on the menu. Nothing is ever absolutely terrible, in fact most of the time it's pretty decent. What the problem is the price...I get NOLA has very limited Mexican restaurants but cmon. They can do better with the pricing. Everything is just overpriced for what you get and especially for this category of food. I've had way better for way less but that was outside NOLA so I can't complain too much. I typically go here just for the margs now and nothing else.
google avatar

Meghan B.

Yelp
Felipe's is my go to spot for fresh Mexican food. My go to order is usually the chicken tacos on flour tortillas or a taco salad topped with pinto beans, sour cream, pico de Gallo, lettuce, cheese mild/hot salsa and you cannot forget their delicious queso. I sometimes stop by just to get chips and queso. The food is always hot and delicious and there isn't anything that I have had from them that I didn't enjoy. Not to mention everyday of the week they have a different drink special. Their margaritas are the best. Always enjoy eating here. I hope that they open a location in Jefferson Parish. :)
google avatar

Gazelle L.

Yelp
It smelled like cotija. The taste was bland. I ordered a water bottle with this too through DoorDash, and I didn't get my water bottle. I thought I would get some salsa verde. What kind of Mexican food is this. It's not worth it at all. I rather go to a local Mexican truck and get some food. This is not it. It's not worth the price at all. Never again !!! Beans taste like it just came from the can to the plate. The only thing that had some type of taste was the meat.
google avatar

Samantha D.

Yelp
They didn't give my time to pick out what I want but they're slapping it on there with the Whick whick whick option. Beans jalapeños and melted cheeses oh my! Jodi gave me a diet soda when I asked for Barq's.
google avatar

Shanita F.

Yelp
Three and a half stars for the food, but 5 shooting stats for the staff that shows so much personality and courtesy to the customers! Everyone who has taken my order or payment has put a smile on my face or gotten a laugh at out of me. I would like to shout out Jorge and Lee, who typically work whenever I'm there. Lee is always quick and friendly. He has very friendly demeanor. Jorge calls me by my first name, does a great job of up selling without being annoying, and usually makes a funny, light-hearted remark. I'm really like coming to this Felipe's, and I chose this location over the others and I choose this Mexican restaurant over the others in the city. There's also a bar here! Fast food and quick drinks! Name a more convenient combination!!? Also, I love the side bar for peppers, radish and other topics! And it's self served!
google avatar

Mary W.

Yelp
Gave me the wrong order, and then came to exchange it (untouched) for the correct order (I ordered 2 nachos with 2 quesos and received a burrito . The staff on 1/20/2022), had absolutely no customer) service skills and quiet an attitude problem for a mistake they had made. I wasn't even upset until their terrible attitude for something the staff themselves mixed up. I understand the service industry is under a lot of stress right now, but the unprovoked attitude was uncalled for. Disgusting. Do better.
google avatar

Sasha L.

Yelp
No flavor whatsoever. I asked for extra salsa roja don't see or taste any. The rice is very under seasoned. Beans were okay. Wouldn't recommend this.
google avatar

ReonAndrea C.

Yelp
Food is okay but the drinks are watered down. I love a margarita that you can actually taste the liquor in and not taste like pure water.
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
The Margaritas as top notch, totally natural, no sugar or mixes added!! Also love their salsa bar!! And HH rocks!
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
30 people waiting in one line with another side closed makes no sense to me. Management needs to do better.
google avatar

Sarah J.

Yelp
Their tortillas are so tasty. Sometimes the al pastor is a bit dry. And I usually get nervous ordering a burrito mostly bc of how it ends up getting wrapped. Luckily it's never as bad as chipotle. I do love their toppings bar they have at every location. The chipotle onions are my absolute favoritez
google avatar

Buz B.

Yelp
I've gone to the location of Miro St for a while, but since I moved to a job site closer to this store, I figured I'd give it another chance. Never again. I was wrong. This location is STILL pathetic. This location STILL doesn't know how to wrap burritos most of the time. If you can't do something right, please just stop. I won't be coming here ever again. Parking sucks anyway. I'd rather travel ALL THE WAY to the one on Miro than save time just to be disappointed at this one. Note: taste is just fine. Customer service has improved a bit. That's why the 2 stars. Their finished product, though.... A wet burrito that is falling apart....is still pathetic.
google avatar

Alexis C.

Yelp
I am here way too often. Usually on a Wednesday. They have $4 (small) margaritas (regular, strawberry, mango) on Wednesdays (large is $7.50) and it is always popping. Always a crowd with good energy. Just a good chill move after hump day. I usually order the same thing to eat, which is a taco salad. I LOVE their pickled carrots and throw them on top every time. I usually get steak. It's always yummy. Every now and then I stray and get a burrito (again normally steak). The steak could stand a little more seasoning but it's always tender and cooked well. The staff is always friendly. Shawn is always bartending when I go in and he's a pretty cool guy. Always good service. I would also recommend coming to the cinco de mayo celebration here. I went last year and it was super packed inside and outside. They have a live band and the margaritas on a steady flow.
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
Yes Pike - per your comment, you have heard back from me on private message MONTHS ago. Not sure what you're trying to accomplish with the comment - update on my review - I've been back twice - similar experience both times.
google avatar

Lola W.

Yelp
Me and my hunny came there for Taco Tuesday. He had the small tacos with beef, lettuce, cheese, and pico (he ended up going back for 2 more), and I had a shrimp quesadilla with cheese, pico, jalapeños, and something else on it. He had a large plain frozen Margarita and I had the prickly pear frozen margarita. I wasn't too fond of the little prickly pear bits in it, but it was still amazing and STRONG! He got a large and I shook my head because I knew what those margaritas were hittin for. He didn't. Lol. The guy with glasses that worked 10/19/21 in the evening made my quesadilla. It was perfectly browned and cooked and had the perfect little crunch when I bit in to it. I wish I had gotten his name because whenever I come there, he's the only one I want to make my quesadilla. I really enjoyed my food and I'll definitely be back. Sorry....no photo. I was too busy enjoying my food.
google avatar

Kathleen T.

Yelp
I have no complaints about the food or service. It's always good; however, I was shocked today when I stopped by for takeout because half the employees had masks on, but only over their mouths! Additionally, there were customers in line with their masks tucked under their chins, and some with no masks at all! Is it any wonder that cases are spiking?!

Yelp
So happy to find such a delicious Mexican cafe in Nawlins. The staff were incredibly helpful explaining the portion sizing and what is recommended with each combination. Clean, safe, covid free. Hand sanitizer and QR code menu makes it easy. Fast fresh food that tastes amazing! Recommend for anyone needing some great Mexican away from home.
