Feliz Coffee Club Opens New Cafe in San Diego’s South Bay With Mexican Coffee | Eater San Diego

"Born during the pandemic as an on-demand coffee service, the business has just opened its first storefront in Otay Mesa: Feliz Coffee Club transitioned from taking online and phone orders out of a South Bay kitchen with customers picking up drinks at scheduled times to a permanent shop. I learned founder Felipe Meraz—who previously worked at Katy’s Cafe in Imperial Beach and Grindhouse in Chula Vista—originally planned a mobile cart at a high-traffic venue but opted to open a storefront. The cafe offers coffee made with Mexican beans sourced from Tijuana roastery Cafe Etrusca and espresso-based drinks using a blend from Chiapas and Veracruz, and it plans to serve single-origin Mexican drip; Meraz said he’s trying to include as many good Mexican ingredients as he can, featuring Oaxacan chocolate, mazapan, and a non-dairy rice milk brought in from Tijuana. Popular beverages include honey cinnamon cortados, matcha lattes, mazapan lattes, and classic Mexican mochas, and the shop also serves chamangos and similar slushy-like Mexican drinks flavored with mango, watermelon, and tamarind dressed with chamoy from local manufacturer Barrio Chamoy; Meraz will stock more traditional Mexican treats and candies as operations pick up. Yum! Always looking for local coffee spots to support and found Feliz! I tried a river bottom potion (matcha + chai) and added banana cold foam with cinnamon+ sugar 👌🏻😋 It slapped! Hubby got a Reese's iced latte and regrets not adding banana cold foam too haha. Loved the themed decor, the service was great, the drinks were even better!!

Really cool place with actual delicious coffee. Got the cold brew, black and was very pleased. It’s rare to find a place with a huge selection of sweet coffees that still has good regular coffee too. Will definitely be coming back!

Small mom and pop coffee shop is good to go! We tried their mazapán iced latte and Mexican mocha latte and they were super tasty. Not too sweet or bitter, just right. Prices are on par with most coffee shops. This place also has outdoor seating to enjoy your coffee! I highly recommend trying this place out.

Wow! This place is great. I ordered a hot vanilla latte with oat milk, a mango slushy with Barrio Logan Chamoy and traditional Mexican Wedding Cake cookies. Everything was good. I really enjoyed the space, the friendly service and especially the different Mexican coffees and pastries. I’m DEFINITELY going back.

I haven’t tried the coffee yet because I’m obsessed with the watermelon slushy! But my son has had coffee and loved it and actually said he preferred it over Starbucks 🤩 i love the vibes, and the owner Felipe is super cool! I highly recommend Feliz Coffee hands down 💯 and it’s always amazing to support our local businesses!!!

I love this place. Flavor consistency is always on top. The staff is very welcoming and highly recommend to give it a try. Mazapan latte 10/10 also, what do you put on your conchitas??? I’m obsessed.

Oh my god! Doesn't look like much from the outside l, but walking in was beautiful. I was immediately greeted by fire fly staff that assisted me with a great drink choice . The mazapan is a MUST try. I will definitely be coming back here

I thought coming on a Sunday close to noon would be safe but nope....closed. Clearly the owner isn't interested in feedback because the hours issue is mentioned a few times. I checked instagram to be sure the most up to date hours were correct and it was not open per posted hours. Now....The Coffee Machine up the street!!! Open and delicious! I'm kind of glad I was redirected because that place was so good. Check them out and don't bother trying to figure out when this business will follow their own posted schedule.

There's been a handful of times i come down to get coffee from here and it's closed, even though according to his posted hours he should be open. This business needs to update their hours correctly. I've showed up at 10am on a tuesday and he's closed. And honestly i've just stopped driving down to this place, i'm disappointed because it's good coffee but this guy needs to be on it when it comes to following his posted hours.

I love this small business. its close to my house so its always the most convenient for me. service is always so friendly. there are so many different syrups to choose from for flavored lattes, and everything is good. I recently had an iced almond milk matcha with peanut butter and it was perfect. not too sweet

I was impressed by this little coffee shop in South Bay. I visit this area for a mexican food shop in the same plaza but never noticed the coffee shop in the corner until I found it on Google Maps. The owner told us they close at 2 so the shop looks closed most of the time. I am so glad we found this place though. The coffee is excellent!! You can tell it's high quality. We got an iced americano with cold foam and cold brew, both of which were smooth and strong, minimal bitterness. The cold foam was made fresh right after we ordered, is subtly sweet and paired amazingly with the coffee. They also have a good selection of pastries: cookies, cake bites, donuts, etc, and the owner told us his mom bakes some of them! I tried an apple fritter, which was very sweet but a good dessert. The interior is small but cozy and and there is 1 table inside plus a couch. On the back wall are many trinkets for sale from local vendors, with venmo codes. They also have positive affirmations in a gumball dispenser which are free! There is a cup of quarters next to it, so we grabbed one. I thought that was such a nice touch, something you don't see everyday. Definitely added to the charm of the place. I will definitely be back to support this local business

Randomly found this little hidden gem while searching for coffee spots around the southbay area. The menu has plenty of options & I love that they have a not so secret menu. The owner was super nice & offered a sample of the horchata cold brew. It tasted delicious on its own even without any milk or add ons. I ended up ordering a cup of this with the cinnamon cold foam added on. The owner also told us about other drinks they offer & I will definitely be back to try them in the near future!

First timer here, great customer service, environment, and coffee. While there you have to check out the items from local vendors. I was able to get a shirt from one of them! I highly recommend this place. Definitely will be going back!

A local owned business that has great coffee, I'm there! I recommend following them on Instagram to get their daily hours. Their menu has gotten much larger and they sell unique locally made items inside as well. I'm happy to support anyone from the neighborhood who makes great food/drinks. I always get the Mexican iced mocha and my mom loves the lavender latte. Service is always welcoming and friendly.

Visited Feliz Coffee Club for the first time last Sunday. It was easy to find and we got to order and pick up our drinks in a reasonable time. We tried the mazapán latte and my daughter tried the kids strawberry milk. I believe it was the owner who took our order and made our drinks, he was welcoming and talkative asking how we liked them after he handed them off. He seemed really customer oriented to get feedback. Our drinks tasted great! T

The drinks are great and the service is always great they're very friendly and get to your drinks very fast. The owners daughter got my order wrong one time, I asked for a Mexican chocolate but not as latte just milk because I was pregnant and i didn't want to drink coffee. I didn't notice until I was driving back home and I tasted it and it was strong, I sent in a message to them and they offered me a free drink for next time which was amazing for them to do. I completely understood if there was miscommunication all I had to do was dilute my drink with more milk and it was still 10/10. I love coming here but then hours aren't always reliable and consistent. Check out their IG page and they let you know what time they open and close !

I'm so picky with coffee. It can't be too sweet but it also can't be bitter with no flavor. This cup of Iced Mazapan Coffee was delicious & perfect. The gentleman behind the bar was kind, quick & offered my Pup a Pup Cup! So yes, they're dog friendly, a HUGE PLUS. It's a cozy place with a cool vibe, with other items to purchase & peruse. I also got a Carne Molida con Papa Boo-rrito. I haven't tried it bc I'm not hungry yet but will report back once I've cracked it open. I will definitely be coming back to visit this week. This place is a great little neighborhood spot to grab coffee. Hours are limited but grabbing your coffee early morning gets your day going. He's got great coffee options, usually has delicious pastries and sometimes even burritos. I've tried several different drinks and everything is been delicious. My personal favorites are the iced Mexican mocha and the iced Masapan Latte. The owner is usually there always friendly always great conversations with him. Highly recommend this spot.

BEST KEPT SECRET COFFEE PLACE Randomly wanted to try a new coffee spot so I fired up yelp and it lead me here and it did not disappoint! We ordered the Coconut Dream Iced with oat milk and the standard vanilla latte. Both very high quality drinks. The owner was super nice and makes a great cup of coffee. It's hard to find any great coffee places down south that aren't Starbucks so I will definitely be a regular coming by for great coffee at a great price!

I always see the coffee shop when I go and get my nails done at the little nail place across the way. And today I finally went in. Man have I've been missing out. I got the vanilla chai latte with almond milk and cold foam. This is one of the best chai lattes I've had in such a long time it's so creamy so flavorful just wonderful. I didn't get the guys name that helped me but he was so nice. I got a little positive affirmation out the cute gum ball machine. Such a cute quiet shop. Definitely recommend.

I tried this spot today for the first time & I really enjoyed it. I grew up in the neighborhood so it's cool to see a dope coffee shop open up down here. Even though I no longer live near here I made the trip to check it out. The owner was the one working & serving my coffee. I got an iced mazapan latte which was SO good :) I also liked the art on the walls & the cool merchandise they sell there. I was very surprised to see that they have a refrigerator where they sell other items like Sea Moss Gel. Trip out! Looking forward to stopping by again the next time I'm in the area.

Finally made it over to Feliz Coffee Club after a few recommendations from friends. I don't live in the area but I will drive for good coffee and this spot has GOOD coffee! Not to mention, great people behind the counter. The guy ( I think he may have been the owner) was very engaging and you can tell he's passionate about his craft. He chatted with me and suggested a few drinks for my return visit. I tried the Iced Coconut Dream and added the Cold Foam. Although it was a bit on the sweeter side ( for my taste) it's excellent! You can really taste the coffee notes and the hint of coconut, which I love. I'll definitely be paying them another visit.

Idk man this place is always closed for some reason the schedule is not up to date and the one time it was open i was very disappointed I've been wanting to try this place and it was a let down. we order and horchata cold brew and it's didn't taste nothing like horchata just regular black cold brew. The guy at the register was not welcoming and had some attitude and was rude when I asked about the horchata cold brew the older lady was very nice tho. The place is cute inside just needs to work on customer service

I am very very greedy with my stars so for me to give 5 stars is really something special. First let me say the stars are solely on the vibe and the coffee itself. It was my first time here and I walked in and loved the decor, the ambiance and the menu!!!! So many options! I knew what I wanted when I got there but hadn't put much thought into what milk I would get. The girl helping me seemed to like customer service skills and enthusiasm to help to say the least but the flavor and expectations of my coffee far exceeded the mediocre help I received from her. I will most definitely be back to try more latte flavors since I was so impressed with the flavor and quality of the product. It is a drive I'm willing to make when I get the chance I can only hope my future visits can be welcomed by a warm and friendlier attitude.

Went to get coffee but the place is closed. The posted hours say from 8am - 2pm on Sunday and when I went at 11am it was locked. They need to update their hours so people don't waste time going there, sad because I wanted to support a local business too.

I would give 0 stars if I could. Made us wait 30mins to get coffee. Simple dirty chai. Not hard to make at all. 4 people after us got their orders super fast and my brother and I waited and waited for I drink. I tipped him 25% too. But seems like he forgot our orders maybe idk? But yea orders at 11:16am and didn't get out order until 11:40am. Plus the coffee wasn't even made well. Go else where y'all.

First time here, coffee was super yummy. I ordered the tux with oat milk & my boyfriend ordered the wonderful. We topped them both with the cinnamon cold foam. Wish we had this place in Orange County, but now I'll look forward to coming here when I come back to San Diego. Also the guy working was super rad, really nice guy.

I see potential in this new and upcoming establishment. For now it's word of mouth and more social media outlets to send customers here to try out the Mexican coffee grounds and flavors from the border to us. I'm rooting for this place. I just would like to say that there isn't any in/outside seating just a order and go for now. I ordered the Mexican Chocolate Mocha (Iced) 16oz. The lightest flavor and creaminess is very well balanced. I just want others to try this place and support South Bay small businesses.

My brother had told me about this coffee shop located in the Southbay but I had never had the chance to stop by until recently . All I can say was they made a great impression and gained a new customer . Location is small and very well kept . They have out door seating and in door. There menu consisted of limited items for everyone's taste . I personally fell in love with their mazapán iced latte made with oatmeal and a dash of cinnamon ( recommended by barista). Prices are decent and affordable and customer service is fantastic. I waited less than 5 mins for my coffee and even got to try some amazing pecan cookies . Definitely a location I recommend fellow yelpers to check out if in the area . You won't be disappointed! Keep up the great work owner and staff .

The guy working here was not welcoming at all, he gave us attitude and was being a little rude. The coffee was not the right one there was no one in here i don't know how he got it confused for another coffee and the mazapán coffee had chunks of peanuts that almost made me throw up. He has to do better, i wanted to support a small business but this place wasn't what i expected. The guy's mom was very sweet tho!

I drive uber and was ready for a coffee break when I found myself near this place. I ordered a cold brew but they were out. Damn! I'd usually leave and head somewhere else for a cold brew instead of getting a regular iced coffee, but I went ahead and ordered a small iced coffee. I'm so glad I did because this might be the best iced coffee I've ever had, cold brew or not. I only wish I'd gotten a large.

I can't say enough how much I love this coffee shop, homie comes through with brewing not only amazing coffee but additional beverages for those that may not be feeling up to the beans. There is some delicious pastries that come from amazing bakers. So I can't say it enough, go hit up Feliz and pick up a coffee or two with some sweets to go with it.

Walking into Felipe's shop had immediately put me in a Vibe! The coffee shop has its own cool decor and feeling, the music he was playing matched it; and the coffee was just phenomenal - he made sure he made it and modified it exactly how I wanted it. Felipe's friendly personality was the cherry on top. You wont be disappointed about this place.
