The Saddest and Biggest Atlanta Restaurant Closures of 2019 | Eater Atlanta

"Facing high rent at its Decatur location, DaVinci’s Pizza broke its lease earlier in 2018, a casualty of the same rent pressures hitting other Decatur restaurants." - Beth McKibben

Fellini's Pizza

I’m a pizza lover, and a few years ago, my brother introduced me to Fellini’s. I remember really enjoying it back then—and today, it reminded me why. I originally set out to try a different pizza spot, but when I found it closed, Fellini’s came to mind. I’m glad it did. While the service wasn’t particularly warm or attentive—just average—the cashier took our order and gave us a table marker. There was a little confusion about our toppings, and a few were added that we didn’t ask for, but it wasn’t a dealbreaker. We ordered a medium pizza loaded with veggies, Italian sausage, and pepperoni. It came out in about 10-12 minutes, piping hot and fresh from the oven. The crust? Incredible. Perfectly baked, flavorful, and honestly one of the best I’ve had outside of New York—and I’m originally from there, so that’s saying something. Despite the service being just okay, the pizza was outstanding—truly worth the visit!

I came in for a couple slices about an hour before they closed. I got service that wasn't "warm", but wasn't rude either. Got a Hawaiian slice & a Fellini special. Both came out piping hot. The slices were their usual good, the crust was perfect. Place wasn't busy, but it was a Sunday night. It may not be Option #1, but it's still a solid option for those in the area that wasn't something reliable.

Service from Jonah was amazing! The pizza is ALWAYS GOOD and the atmosphere (music) Gen X! It’s the perfect place to grab dinner! I just wish they had wings on the menu.

It is simply okay pizza, the best part is the pricing is not bad for the size. I went in there is nothing personable about the staff, just very straightforward and almost an air that they barely want to talk to you, which is fine just want to point that out. I ordered a pizza slice, I think it’s one of their specialty slices it was about 6$ and it came out in about 10 mins which they did tell me it would be about 10-15mins, again super okay as I did have lots of time to spare. I also had a wine which was also okay at about 7$ a pour, they only had 2 wine options. The entire experience wasn’t memorable or outstanding it was just okay. Might be coming back, might not. Would I recommend to anyone? Sure, whatever but if you never try it you also aren’t missing out on anything. Ps, the pizza itself was really salty but I do think it was because it had olives.

Our family goes to this location a minimum of 2-3 days per week. We also spend our family and friends nights and weekends there as well. It’s so sad to know that this place is changing. Today we arrived at 3:30pm to place our regular order and only a few ppl were there. We ordered to go and had to drive back to get help around 4pm. The food was terrible and the experience was saddening. The Sicilian slices were old, cold, and stale. When we asked for the slices to be remade and a refund they told us they couldn’t do both, so they only refunded one slice even though both had been made terribly. When we got home to eat for the second time, one of the Sicilian slices had hair (see picture). The salads ordered (2 full salads with pepperoni and meatballs) barely had any toppings even though we paid extra for them. There were about 3/4 slices of pepperoni on one of the salads. I had to go back and ask to add more. Very little was done to change what happened today. We are regulars and love this place! Unfortunately, wouldn’t recommend it in the same way as before.

* update*. Still not as good as it could be, sometimes the staff is inattentive to any customizations, and you still can make changes on the website to order so you MUST go in, Quality and portion size fluctuates wildly. This used to be my go-to pizza place but I'm rethinking my patronage because the food quantity as well as quality has gone way down and they don't let you call in an order anymore. Yes, you can order online but there's no way to ask for anything to be customized - more on that later, let's deal with the quantity/quality issue now. It's gone really down hill. I ordered a salad and not only did they screw up the order, I got considerably less salad than ever before - part of what I got was something that I would never even consider serving at home let alone sending it out with a paying customer - days old lettuce. The romaine was not fresh and had apparently gotten "brown" in places but that doesn't happen with fresh lettuce, only with days old lettuce (see pictures.) There wasn't a speck of iceberg in my "romaine and iceberg mixed" salad either. Now, on to quantity - you used to be able to count on getting large slices of pizza from Fellini's... No more, apparently. I ordered two slices and they both fit into a small size pizza box... What a disappointment (see pictures.) Now, on to being forced to order via online ordering. I don't blame any restaurant for trying to streamline their business, but when it's done in a half a**ed way, it's frustrating and not customer friendly. For example, they put gobs of cheese on the salads, some people like it that way, I do not. So, when I called in my orders I was able to ask for the cheese on the side (they give it to you in a dressing container) and that way I can control how much, if any, cheese I want on my salad. Sadly, that's not an option that's available on their website. You will take it as they serve it and like it (!)- I guess. Well, I don't like it and if I want things done to my liking (or if I had allergies) then I have to go there and order it in person and then waste my time waiting for it instead of being able to order from the convenience of my home and then going to pick it up. It is, frankly, not worth the aggravation especially in light of the quantity/quality issues.

Google
I love this place! I have probably ate at all the ini’s in Atlanta but Decatur is my Fav. 🧑‍🍳 chefs kiss!! Thank you for being accommodating when I messed up my order!!!

Marcus R.

Google
Ok so I have been to all other Fellini locations and this is the worst. Terrible staff no greeting with weird facial expressions. And the ingredients for the Fellini special was wrong the Fellini special was never served or made with whole olives on the pizza it is sliced black and green olives. These chefs did not take the time or quality to prepare the staple pizza correctly and I'm so disappointed in bringing my friend here for the first time. The Fellini special should always be on point it's your signature pizza and I have had it for years so I know exactly how it's supposed to be it has never ever had whole items on it. The lack and quality of the pizza was disgusting I definitely will never visit this location again. Whoever owns this just fyi I will come work there for a week just to show you what quality is and I will do it for free just to prove a point! Le Cordon Bleu and CIA trained, the pizza below is the correct slice of the special not what these guys at 333 served me

Yelp
So delicious and fresh , filled with delicious vegetables, cheese and seasonings. My favorite pizza place

Ashlynn K.

Yelp
Pizza and salad was decent - a bit too salty for my liking. We ordered a special slice, a special Sicilian pizza, a spinach and mushroom slice, and a salad. When our food came out, they gave and charged us for a whole other slice of pizza we hadn't ordered. We also didn't receive the correct Sicilian pizza (we got cheese when we had ordered a special). Our server was nice and helped us get our order correct though. Overall, the pizza was nothing too exciting. I feel like many people really hype up this spot as one of the best places for pizza, but I was not very wowed by Fellini's.
google avatar

Christopher B.

Yelp
This pizza spot is truly one of the best around. The staff is incredibly friendly, whether you're placing an order over the phone or interacting with them in person. The service is always efficient, with pizzas ready in 25 minutes or less. And the pizzas? They look amazing and taste even better. The restaurant offers plenty of seating, and it's rarely crowded when I visit--except during the summer, when their outdoor dining area becomes a popular spot. Parking is abundant, and most people who come here seem to have a great experience.
google avatar

Tamanna G.

Yelp
Love their casual ambiance and the open indoor outdoor seating. By far the best slice in Atlanta that is open late night. It has great ambiance be it a date night, casual hang with friends or just gathering with family. The staff is friendly and fast. They have options for vegetarian and non vegetarian diet. They offer some beers on draft and in cans and soft beverages. I highly recommend them for pizza in ATL area.

Kim T.

Yelp
Always delicious! One of our go-to pizza places! Big slices. Yummy mozzarella cheese...nice patio, too.
google avatar

Micaela R.

Yelp
10/10 Very surprised with how cheap this place is and how GOOD the pizza is. Beer and pizza for less than $20? That sounds too good to be true. We sat outside and it was perfect. Service was great because it was my first time. This will not be my last time for sure!
google avatar

Josh L.

Yelp
Food: Pizza is delicious and has good, sturdy crust even if you add a lot of toppings. The time to make the pizza is roughly 20 minutes. Standard soda machine for drinks. Service: Servers and staff are friendly though some of the servers do forget things pretty consistently so do not expect to receive things after they visit you the first time. Ambience: Music is on the louder side but not so much that you can't have a conversation. Theming of this location is interesting with a NY transportation vibe. Good outdoor seating in a patio attached to the restaurant. Parking: Abundant, free parking around the store.

Yelp
Was in the area to take my Mom to an appointment and saw Fellini's and had a taste for some good pizza!! We did a drive by too late to eat inside! The service was good and ambiance was chill, not crowded at all! We both had 2 slices with mushrooms and spinach and they were SUPER huge! Didn't eat until we arrived at home, slices were so big I could only eat one and saved the last piece for next day telework lunch, still good! Plenty of free parking and when I am in the neighborhood again will most definitely pull up!!

Yelp
I've been a fan of Fellini's Pizza for years, and generally, the food is consistently good across their locations. Unfortunately, not all Fellini's are created equal when it comes to service. During a recent visit to the Commerce Ave location in Decatur, I stopped in for a quick slice of pepperoni. While ordering was easy, the customer service left a lot to be desired. The young man with blond dyed hair who brought my slice to the table did so with an attitude that felt unnecessarily cold and unwelcoming. He didn't say a word, made no eye contact, and placed the pizza down in a way that came off as irritated or even disgusted. He then quickly grabbed my table number and walked away without so much as a "here you go" or "enjoy." I wasn't expecting a full conversation, but basic courtesy goes a long way, especially in food service. After delivering the slice, I noticed he returned to the register, pulled out his phone, and scrolled until more customers came in. Thankfully, I know this isn't the standard across all Fellini's locations. I've had great experiences at other spots where the staff are friendly, welcoming, and professional. That said, I'll be skipping the Commerce Ave location in the future. The staff here could definitely benefit from more training and coaching on customer service. A great product should be matched by great service--and that just wasn't the case here.

Yelp
I just love my Fellini's pizza . I get my pizza I get my beer. I sit relax eat and drink my beer. Love the atmosphere love the staff. I've been going here for years. No complaints.

Yelp
Food was excellent and the service was great wait time was minimal best pizza I've had in a long time

Yelp
First time at this location. I will be back! The staff was friendly and the service was fast. We got the veggie pizza and it was delicious! It's spacious inside and they have outside seating as well. The aesthetic was cute too. Definitely my new go to pizza spot.

Brian H.

Yelp
What is this, you ask? Answer: Inedible...not fit, or suitable for eating. Inedible.

Dorina A.

Yelp
I loved it! I ordered a large pepperoni and sausage pizza, and it tastes just like New York Style pizza!
google avatar

Yelp
If you're looking for a place to get good quality, cheap pizza in a cool location Fellini's Decatur is for you. It's located in the old Decatur greyhound bus station, which adds a fun retro aesthetic to the dining experience. The service was friendly (you pay up front) and did a good job for what they did do. Obviously, if you're looking for high quality pizza Fellinis may not be for you (there's a reason it's cheap) but for the price it's great food with a fun ambiance. Will definitely be going again.
google avatar

Vanessa P.

Yelp
We have seen more than one Fellini's while driving around since moving to Atlanta and stopped into the Decatur location this past weekend. It was around 12:30pm on a Saturday and not that busy. It's a counter service where you order first before sitting. It's toddler/kid friendly in that they have high chairs, but not a dedicated kid's menu. (If you're a parent and look for that sort of thing) We decided to order the Calzone for our son, and had a slice each of their original slice and a Sicilian slice. Interestingly the calzone is HUGE. I feel like two people could easily eat from one. Of the two pizza slices I preferred the original. Yes it was greasy but in a good way. The inside was clean and while there is inside seating there is also a patio area with umbrellas and a water fountain. Overall, this is no frills pizza and the prices are definitely cheaper than most.
google avatar

Yelp
Halloween was horrible! The pizza had no tomato sauce and flavorless. They were very busy and couldn't handle the rush. Poor quality pizza. Just the worst ever. Management needs to be called on the carpet for the bad pizza. I'm giving a one star but really want to not give a star at all.
google avatar

Jackie M.

Yelp
It's a good place to grab a bite. I got the special with pepperoni, sausage, green pepper, onion, mushroom etc.
google avatar

Jaime B.

Yelp
This restaurant has good pizza. The cleanliness is questionable. The service however was so so with a very rude girl at the counter.

Kevin W.

Yelp
Long time Fellini's customer. Over 10 years. Though the flavor of their food is always on point, I noticed over the last 6 months, their portions in the salads and toppings have been cut by nearly half!!! I've never had an issue with Fellini's and this is pissing me off. Lil skinny neck dude in the Decatur store who claims to be the manager, refused to remake my food claiming the portions have always been the same which is complete bull****. I took it to his real manager and even he didn't do much. I'm not happy and the start of my complaint is yelp. Yall need to fix this and I'll fix my review.
google avatar

Audri K.

Yelp
Found a hair baked into the crust of my pizza, when I went to ask for a refund i was denied one due to me having "eaten all the pizza" even though the hair was in the TOP of the pizza BAKED INTO the crust. And they still had the audacity to catch an attitude and imply that i planted it in there, which is impossible because it was BAKED IN THE TOP. And when i was about to get a refund, the system magically crashed and i wasn't able to get a refund. (mind you, someone was right behind me and bought pizza right after i walked away.) I didn't see the hair until i was only halfway done with the pizza.

Yelp
I love Fellini's pizza and at almost $5 a slice for the special, you would definitely come off better buying a Large Pie. Took my son for the first time and he was impressed! We took a seat on the patio, unfortunately it started to rain so we had to make a run for it. Everyone was really nice, no mask-no service , ao wear your mask, also, they are not accepting cash, dining is only available on the patio and they are making a killing by selling can soda for $2. The entire dining experience has changed due to Covid, but the pizza taste the same!

Chris S.

Yelp
Food was so good! The slices are huge! The original cheese was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The choice of music was not great! I would have said something if we had children. Tons of cursing in the songs.

Ahkeisha K.

Yelp
Food was good and service was great. I ordered over the phone and when I arrived my food was ready. Line was short and the pizza was fresh and cheesy. I will definitely be returning this is a hidden gem for people who don't know about it.
google avatar

Vanessa E.

Yelp
Great pizza spot! I just moved to Decatur in January and we arrived in town late one night.. fellinis was the only place available for takeout (open til 11!) and it was perfect! Vegetarian pizza has green olives and black olives... very nice, unique. They let dogs on the patio and gave us water for her. Staff is friendly and polite. Bathrooms were decent!
google avatar

Matthew D.

Yelp
This is the closest Fellinis to us and it doesn't disappoint. I maybe go there atleast once month. If you've never been to a Fellinis, it is a great neighbor pizza place that offers some awesome tasting pizza. Typically when we go we don't order the same thing so I can't recommend a certain item. But so far all the pizzas we have had are very tasty! They also serve pitchers of beer, so it's the perfect place to grab some pizza and beer with a group of friends.
google avatar

Janos J.

Yelp
I absolutely love Fellini's Pizza and have been eating at many of their locations for the past 15 years. A friend of mine lives near this location so I have been at this location a few times and have always enjoyed the outstanding quality and friendly service. As we are all living in a different time with this darn pandemic, Fellini's has made it easy for its customers to call ahead and order their food, pay over the phone and pick it up outside on their patio so everyone can still enjoy their favourite pizza. I highly recommend this location for anyone in the Decatur area. I drive about an hour roundtrip now just to get my pizza and believe it is well worth it to support local businesses. [Review #623] (13th Review of 2020)

Asia D.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would. I have been a loyal customer for years. Upon arriving at my home after picking up an order I saw that it was burnt to a crisp. I called to request a new pie and the manager Sixto refused. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.
google avatar

Ameshia A.

Yelp
Great service. Friendly quick and helpful. Good food. Casual atmosphere. I fell in love with the sweet tea.

Sheri P.

Yelp
We asked for our pizza to be well done and it wasn't my bf said the pizza tasted dougy like the pizza was raw. We asked for it well done it wasn't. I ordered white pizza end it had red sauce on the bottom so they throw ricotta cheese and mozzarella and garlic on top of the red sauce pizza and call it a white pizza. This is not how we make it in New York. We came here specifically for the salad and it was way below our expectations we've been to Fellini's many times, and the salad was always up to par well today it was not. But the kicker is the wine glass now is the size of a shot glass and it's even more expensive than before. The staff is pleasant, but we didn't come here for the staff we came for the food and the wine just saying.
google avatar

Ann W.

Yelp
We enjoyed the spinach mushroom pizza and a seasonal cranberry feta walnut salad. Large pizza is really large, enough for 2 meals for 2 people. Salad was exactly how it sounds with balsamic on the side. Dressing is tangy and a little goes a long way, doesn't taste like it's from a bottle. So, if you know it's house made I'd like to hear about it. Prices are on the high end to be honest. Next time, we would do a medium pie and make the salads at home.
google avatar

Rhonda M.

Yelp
It was just OK. I've had way better pizza and this isn't my first time eating from this franchise but it's a first for this location. My pizza tasted a bit salty and the sauce wasn't great. I wanted to give them a try because we had a taste for pizza and it wasn't too far away. I wasn't impressed at all and I highly doubt if I'll return.
google avatar

nytha c.

Yelp
Very poor service here. I came here tonight for a slice of mushroom and meatball pizza. When it came out it was pepperoni and mushrooms though it looked very deliciously cooked I told the waiter right away it was wrong and he took it back. When he came back with my order it was correct but this time the mushroom wasn't even cooked. The meatballs and mushrooms were only slightly warm. Almost like at room temperature. You can tell they just took off the toppings of the last slice and threw on new toppings smh. I didn't want to wait any longer so I just ate my pizza and left. Won't be coming back and neither will the people I came with.
google avatar

Jessica N.

Yelp
Great prices and great portions! My favorite is the white pizza! Super cheesy and delicious
google avatar

Christine F.

Yelp
I've been a fan of Fellini's for years now. They don't have a huge menu with a million different pizzas, but what they do, they do right. Their slices are big enough to be a meal and I particularly love the spinach, mushroom and garlic slice. It's so tasty every time. Recently we ordered the Fellini's special to-go and it was loaded with toppings and still hot when we brought it home. I've read a few reviews that complain Fellini's is too heavy on the salt and I think it's the ingredients. For example, their "supreme" style pizza with everything has two different types of salty olives and sometimes I opt to keep those off. Still, when you get a pizza with as many toppings as Fellini's puts on a pizza, it's gonna be flavorful! I'm so glad Fellini's is back open in Decatur and I hope they stay in this location for years to come.

Miss Grinch N.

Yelp
Tried this place because I was out and hungry and needing something asap. Haven't had pizza that tasted this good. Even the dough is very good. The slices are very big and plentiful. One slice makes me full lol. Service is good as well.
google avatar

Stephen Y.

Yelp
All of the toppings taste fresh. The onions taste like onions, green peppers are flavorful, and the meatballs are my favorite topping. Pizzas are reasonably priced. If you want a good pizza with a friendly customer service at an Atlanta staple pizza joint, stop by a Fellini's location.

Grace O.

Yelp
y'all this is some of the worst pizza i've had. floppy and rubbery at the same time. almost inedible. it wasn't cut all the way through, toppings falling off, everything just sliding around. i had to rip off the crust and just eat the bread. way too expensive to be doing all that. the place is cute itself and the staff is really sweet, but the pizza is not it.
google avatar

Bryony H.

Yelp
The pizza slices are huge and flavorful but not mind blowing as I expected based on the reviews. It was a little too salty for me but bareable. The Calzone crust was bland and a little too crunchy. Overall, I would say give them a try but I won't be back. I've just had to many terrific slices in my life to be wowed easily.
google avatar

Za S.

Yelp
We wanted pizza so we opted for this place since it was near our hotel. We weren't disappointed. We ordered the Fellini special. The pizza came out hot n ready. My pallet was very satisfied
google avatar

Ashleigh K.

Yelp
Fellini's pizza is one of my all time favorite pizza places since moving from Connecticut . Growing up we had like five pizza places in a super tiny town, so I'm kind of a pizza snob. The best thing about fellini's is they have several different options from regular slices to GIANT Sicilian slices (try the white Sicilian) and you can add all the toppings your heart desire's. Not only is there great pizza they make a fabulous Calzone. My go to is adding fresh green peppers, onions and pepperoni. Side of extra sauce, Duh. The staff is always quick and friendly and there is both indoor and outdoor seating, plenty of parking and orders for there or to go.
google avatar

Rose F.

Yelp
Quite frankly, I wasn't expecting it to be so big the Bebe pizza was awesome. A bit lopsided in the toppings but it was good. They need to concentrate more on evenly distributing the toppings. Service was good. Table was clean. Parking was free.

Lynn B.

Yelp
Love the spinach and white cheese pizza with black olives added. Only constructive feedback is that the cashier was annoyed and was texting on her cell phone when we were standing at the register ready to place our orders. She briefly ignored us. #rude
google avatar

Shyam S.

Yelp
Fellini's will always be in the column of "Great Atlanta Experiences." I have been a fan since I first moved to the A in 2003 and even though I haven't lived here since 2014, it's a delicious and appealing place to visit during every trip. While each Fellini's has its own unique flavor, the pizza and salads are consistent across all locations. I have always loved the Decatur location and its facade as a repurposed bus station. But in terms of late-night memories, it has to be the one on Ponce, near the Clermont. This was the first place where I learned to love salads because of the massive amount of cheese and honestly there is not better meal than a large vegetarian slice and the salad with creamy Italian. HEAVEN!
google avatar

Kam M.

Yelp
I'm not a big pizza fan but every once in a while I crave a slice. I'm from NY and we have the best pizza and since moving here I haven't had decent pizza which is sad. My coworker suggested we go to Fellini's and I decided to go along. Location: Located in downtown Decatur with plenty of parking. Food: I decided to try both the spinach and mushroom and the vegetarian slice. While the crust wasn't as thick as I like it was pretty good. Salad was huge with lettuce, tomatoes, mushroom, onions, green peppers, olives, mozzarella, They do have a pretty decent selection of beers and wines which is always a plus. Whenever I'm in the mood for a slice I come here.
google avatar

Luke W.

Yelp
Very tasty pizza, especially if you're looking for something familiar, but a big step up from standard takeout chains. This is exactly what I want from an independent pizza joint. Great place to grab a pizza and a beer, or to grab a pie to take home. By the slice or whole pie, very reasonable price for what you get, and exactly what I'm looking for. Great quality, great atmosphere, I'm a big fan.
google avatar

Natalie S.

Yelp
Fellini's is definitely an Atlanta staple pizza spot. I've been to several of their locations. Sometimes it's a 5 star experience sometimes its a 2 star. First time at the Decatur (Off Commerce) location... They have patio dine in only, mask are required, and it's plenty of space throughout. So I definitely felt comfortable as far as covid is concerned. Service was a little lackluster from the young fella, but JULLIANNA definitely converted me back to being a Fellini's patron. Shoutout to her and her awesome service! Food: Large half veggie/half white pizza: Veggies were fresh and tasted great, the white pizza also tasted pretty good. Nothing special, but still tasty food. Now, Fellini's pizza is good. Not great but good. If you're looking for an authentic Italiano or NYC style pizza, this is not your place. But if you're looking for that nice cheesy, fresh ingredients on some soft dough--its worth a try! I always describe Fellini's as adult Chuckie Cheese pizza, and I mean that in the most respectful way possible, because Chuckie Cheese pizza be hittin! :)
google avatar

Yelp
Great pizza and service everytime. My go-to is the spinach and mushroom pizza. Get it extra crispy!
google avatar

Vernon F.

Yelp
My favorite pizza place in Decatur. I enjoy the consistency and kind staff. I just wish the toppings selection was better. Other than this place being insanely simplistic it's a solid choice if you hate commercial pizza places.
