Bento Boxes Are a Taiwanese Train Tradition | Eater

"The hotel runs a large restaurant serving traditional chicken-leg and pork bentos in returnable metal tins (with souvenir tins available), and sits by a small outdoor market once famous for fresh wasabi and now known for high-quality wasabi salt." - Karissa Chen

indeed a cozy / simple hotel near the Alishan railway stop at Fenchihu this place is much nicer than the industrial going on at Alishan it's nice to spend a day in Fenchihu and do the walks around the town we got a Japanese style room with a nice little bath tub that both me and our son enjoyed if you want to spend the day at Alishan just keep refreshing the train booking page One or two days prior to departure. there will be a ticket otherwise take the bus up to Alishan for going back to the hotel the Fenchihu hotel can arrange a pickup from the main road alishan-chiayi like that you can take the last Bus from Alishan at 17:10 in the afternoon the bento boxes at the hotel are so-so. their dinner is good though

This is a old small hotel with comfortable rooms good for a nights stay. We picked fenchihu instead of staying at Alishan which was too expensive and probably made the best choice. Hotel has a 7-11 connected with breakfast coupons but suggest using the coupons for snacks /drinks and having breakfast at a small pancake stall 30m turning right exiting the hotel. The bacon egg pancake is fantastic

Simple room with excellent service. next to 7-11 and provides great bento meal. The ribs were delicious! Practically at the start of town if you drive or take train. But note there’s a steep slope at entrance to town if you are bringing luggage

Great location in town! Food is good and there are 3 tours available for hotel guests. The staff speak other languages but the tour is in Mandarin only. However you can still enjoy the beautiful views and especially the fireflies are a special experience!!

Great location: Located right at the start of Fenqihu old street, the hotel is only 1 min walk from the Fenqihu bus station. Room was a little old but it’s very clean and spacious. We had tatami and a little tea corner (a table with a tea set and cushion seats) that we enjoyed the free Alishan tea from the hotel at.

The hotel is decent with mainly wood structure - nostalgia feel. The location is also very convenient near to the train station and bus station. There is a 7-11 which is just next (or rather up the stairs) in the same building. It is nearby the old street as well. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful with the directions going up Alishan. There is water dispenser near the staircase. We had the dinner at the hotel where it serves by per pax. The portion of the food is big and sufficient for our group of 5 to eat.

This is the main fenchihu hotel with the railway bentos. Front desk staff are very nice and helpful! The pork bento is also strangely much better than the chicken one imo (and full of veggies which was super enjoyable). You do need to first carry your luggage down a steep flight of stairs from the train station to get to the old street, which is where they are at (right where the 7/11 is, you can't miss it). There's no bottled water, but there is a water dispenser. They also provide 2 in 1 soap in the toilet. The room was very clean but (1) they don't do daily house keeping, so my trash really piled up after 3 days, (2) there is no aircon and the blanket is THICK so I would recommend that you turn the fan on, it helps alot, and (3) I had drain flies appear in the toilet on the second day and the drain did start to stink. Breakfast voucher is 200 NTD per room per day for use at the 7/11.

Definitely THE place to stay in Fenchihu. You get exactly what you pay for. Service is kind and attentive and all the staff members speak fluent English. Reception helps to arrange luggage storage while you are out and about. The room is Japanese vintage style and in good condition. Loved the tatami, futon and bathtub. Its really quiet at night so you can get a good rest. Their bento is my personal favourite in town and they even have a tasty vegetarian one. The take-away version comes with a cute sleeve and the one you it in the restaurant is served in a cool metal tin. Free soup is included. I feel like I got a lot of added value here: breakfast vouchers for 7/11, discount for a fantastic tea shop, and: they offer free walking tours in Chinese. I joined the one in the evening and was able to see fireflies for the first time in my life! Unforgettable! In the morning we were able to enjoy the cedar boardwalk before the crowds came into town. I'd totally recommend staying at this institution - it made my time in Fenchihu truly comfortable, relaxed and joyful. Thank you for being such great hosts!

Yelp
I love this hotel at the first sight. On the first floor, the famous bento box with pork chop, vegetable, dry tofu and soup, smells so good. It is amazing to enjoy the bento box at the wooden-crafted tables, sitting on the cool wooden stool. Our room is a surprising delight, as it has the Japanese style from in sleeping area, living room area and bathroom as well as the outside hallway. The services are great too. I enjoyed their guided tour services to check out different interesting sites near the hotel.
