This is a cool place to catch a little some of that fine dining. I’m sure they change their menu from time to time so they may no longer have some of the food I might mention, but I hope that they still do. The bone marrow was great, calamari, I also got to sample some food straight from the chef and my favorite part was the dessert of course. The chocolate crepe cake. Cake plus crepes is just the best and if you like chocolate, it’s a must. the only slightly off thing was the presentation of the calamari, kind of felt like a doggy bowl, but, ruff. I was able to find some street parking, which took me a minute, but I’m hoping there is a parking garage considering it’s in a busy area. But don’t let that deter you. I came on a weekday, so it wasn’t super busy, and the staff was alert and ready with good service. The inside is clean, a little dim if you like that sort of vibe with Southeast Asian inspired décor. Stop by if you haven’t already. I surely will if I’m in the area again and my bank account is looking right.

Fiancé and I took my mother here for a belated Mother’s Day dinner and we all agreed that it was one of the best meals we have ever had. We stopped by on a Wednesday around 4:30 to get some things off the happy hour menu and were promptly welcomed and seated. April was our hostess/waitress/and bartender at that time and her service was exceptional. She asked all the right questions with a friendly smile and was perfectly attentive without being overbearing. None of us had ever tried Oysters before today, and after our experience with the raw Oysters here we will definitely be trying them again. So fresh and beautifully displayed. Overall, the pricing was extremely fair considering that we all ordered apps, entrees, drinks, desserts, and coffees. The pacing of everything that we ordered was also perfect. Nothing came out too soon after the previous course and rushed us but also there wasn’t so much room between dishes that we were bored and looking around for help between courses. We all enjoyed and strongly recommend the sushi/sashimi trio and the wagyu/lobster special sushi roll. But we all also agree that there wasn’t a single lackluster bite in anything that we ate. No one dish left the table with anything left on it. I was extremely happy with the layered crepe dessert with matcha filling and would definitely come back again just for that. Overall, this was more than just a meal, it was a dining experience that was well worth our time and money. We look forward to coming back again when we are next in the area for a special occasion and can’t wait to try some of the delicious looking steaks. We strongly recommend trying Feng Chophouse out if you’re in the area whether it be for their happy hour or a meal in their dining room. The vibe is definitely a little darker, especially in the more formal dining room, but we are a fan of that so be prepared if you struggle in lower light environments. If I had to nitpick one or two things to offer constructive criticism for, it would be that our high top table was a little wobbly and sticky under the table mats on the surface. However, this didn’t negatively impact our overall experience because everything else was so superb. I’ll state again that you should check this place out if you’re in the area, there is something for everything and we guarantee you won’t be disappointed based on our experience today.

You will NOT be disappointed. There wasn’t a thing that didn’t make my mouth Salivate. The Udon, the A5 Wagyu, the oysters, the Drinks, the surf n turf dumplings…. Worth every penny. No question. Megan was our server, and her recommendations were spot on, she was attentive… there’s literally nothing more I could have asked for in a night out looking for a great place for a Dinner Date.

The boss and the waiter were super nice and the food was super high end. The overall experience was also very cool.

We went to the Omakase experience for our 8th anniversary and spent over two hours enjoying a fantastic experience with great food and the best sushi chef we’ve ever had—his name was Jerry! Additionally, John, the owner of the restaurant, warmly welcomed us with a champagne toast.

The food was the BEST. Far exceeded my expectations. Service was wonderful and atmosphere was beautiful. Quite a nice dining experience. Nice to find experienced sushi chefs with the highest quality fresh fish. You will not be disappointed.

Had a very nice dinner at a very nice restaurant. The highlight of my dinner was the tuna taco. The tuna was so fresh. It was very delicious. We also had the shrimp tempura roll, which was kind of on the bland side for me. We had the chicken dinner and the salmon dinner. They were very accommodating when it came to my food allergies. we also had the lava cake for dessert which was very very good. The service was very good. We had a very nice dinner and it’s a very nice restaurant.

Yelp
This is easily my go-to spot for sushi, and probably my favourite restaurant overall in Hartford county. The signature sushi rolls perfectly combine just the right ingredients- enough different flavors to make the rolls interesting, offering a mix of tastes and textures, but not too many that it becomes overwhelming or over-the-top. The appetizers I've tried have all been quite large in quantity and good value for the price. Always top quality, fresh ingredients. The nori tacos are absolutely delicious - the spicy tuna crunch had a pleasantly surprising citrusy twist, although was not very crunchy. Flavor-wise, it was a home run, but the small portion (2x 2-bite tacos) was a bit disappointing for the price. You can't go wrong with the sushi rolls. Most are $20 for an 8-piece roll and while that's steeper than your average roll, these are worth every penny. They're loaded up with fish and toppings and have a generous amount of sauce, making these rolls a light yet filling meal. Cocktails are also delicious - whether you go for a classic or try their signature mixed drinks. The service is professional, but when the restaurant's busy the wait for food can be a bit long. I actually like the dim lighting, romantic vibes, and decor of the interior. The design cleverly helps you forget you're in a space with no windows! The round booths are especially cozy. Great place for date night, a celebration, or night out with friends. I haven't yet tried the steaks but based on the quality of everything else, I'm excited to keep working my way through the entire menu!

Yelp
Expensive slop. Another Hartford restaurant caring more about the atmosphere than the food ( see beautiful up-lit bathroom pics) I wanted to write a long pretentious review of why I hated this restaurant but who am i to write such a review, I mean, am I chef.. no.. so I am going to let the picture do the talking... the attached picture is shrimp tempura.. wtf is this? Shrimp for ants. So disappointing. We got this with the shishito peppers which were just ok but what was really funny was when both dishes came with the respected sauces spilt over the plate and the waiter informed us that they placed the sauces on the wrong dishes so.. you know.. whoops. For the price this place sucks arse

Yelp
Limited sushi selection and terrible service. I ordered miso soup and two rolls. After sitting there for 15 min I inquired about the miso and my waitress said "if you're in a rush I would just take what you can get; we're very busy tonight". I explained to her that I wasn't in a rush I just wanted my app and entree separately. Regarding her tip, I suggest that she takes what she can get. I ultimately cancelled the miso and enjoyed the rolls. They were good despite a lack of necessary ginger on the side to cleanse my pallet, but I'll never be back.

Yelp
Pricy, well prepared food. You pay for the ambiance Girlfriend landed a pretty nice job, so we wanted to go out and celebrate. Being a local foodie, I know that Ginza and Feng are the top places in the state for sushi, so the girlfriend decided to treat me to this place in hartford. First off, parking is limited to a few spots in front and a parking lot that's across the way. The parking lot charges 5 for parking under an hour, and 11 for parking under 2 hours. It's pricy for parking in hartford, but not unheard of. Going into the restaurant, it's very well decorated and the ambiance is a very intimate affair. Black linens, black chairs, singular spotlights illuminating single spots on each table. everything is dark and purposeful. Staff wears all black with red accents, very professional and very accommodating. We ordered a decent amount of food. We got a 10 oz filet, their signature maki, 2 sides, 2 sushi rolls (Surf and Turn and a Jalepeno roll), and 2 desserts (Crepe cake and Carrot Cake). Food comes out all at once, which was a pretty big error in terms of meal pacing. but it was fine, we took our pics and dug in. The plating was well done. all the plates were pretty and decorated well. The signature maki and the steak were the best bites out of the meal. The maki was fresh, composed and seasoned even though it was just raw fish. They showed awesome attention to detail and made sure that the bite itself had just enough composure to accent the star of the dish which was the fish. The steak was cooked properly, seasoned and butter basted. The meat was tender, juicy, and flavorful. A very well done and properly executed filet. The rest of the items were good, but were lacking the same attention that the other dishes had. The sushi rolls were prepared with premium ingredients, but they were not properly balanced. The surf and turf roll, the fried lobster had too much breading and the a5 wagyu was overcooked. the jalepeno roll was good, but there wasn't any flavors that were different or unique compared to a standard sushi restaurant. The sushi rolls were presented in a way that made the overhead spot lighting cast a lot of shadows on the dish. there was no nice way to get pictures of the food, which was a shame. The sides were very clean but also very generic. The mushrooms were an assortment of mushrooms, but very much just cooked mushrooms. The duck fat potatoes were potatoes cooked in duck fat, and nothing really else. They were high quality ingredients, but very generic cooking. The crepe cake was unique. it's effectively like eating scoops of whipped cream with thin layers of eggy pancake in-between. Not bad, and glad to say I got to try it. The carrot cake was very much mostly frosting, and the cake was not in proper proportions for the amount of frosting. The biggest issue was the price. Each item effectively came out to 20 bucks, with the steak commanding $60. I do not mind paying for quality, especially if those bites are very tasty. In this case, I have gotten better bites for cheaper in a few different locations. I can appreciate an attempt to keep flavors clean and simple, but I would expect there to be accents to emphasize the natural flavors of each item. That with the price makes this place not great. It's good, but very pricy for what you get. It's a good place to bring a date if you're trying to impress, but if you're not trying to impress anybody then there's little here to bring you in.

Yelp
Amazing service and amazing food not to mention really good drinks. The sea bass was amazing.

Yelp
We came here for the first time for a date night. The ambience was nice low lighting and classy atmosphere. The food was amazing as well as our martinis. Only thing is while our waitress was friendly it took a while to be seen and over an hour for our food to come and it wasn't really busy. If drinks and food are taking a while because of short staff for example then we should be told this or maybe just "sorry for the wait " would be nice .

Rachel P.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this place for dinner with the hubs. The ambiance is nice and we had great service. Our server even remembered what my husband ordered the week before. :) We ordered the calamari, pork belly, kimchi fried rice, autumn in Connecticut roll and the jalapeno mule. Everything was so delicious and came out so quickly. This was plenty of food for the both of us, but it was so good that we finished it all. I wish we had room for dessert, but we'll definitely be back again.

alandra b.

Yelp
We got two signature sushi rolls and a bunch of appetizers and sides as well as a dessert. My boyfriend is sober and we were going to a brewery afterwards so we opted not to get any cocktails. All of the food was delicious but it seemed like the server was annoyed that we weren't getting alcoholic drinks or entrees to rack up the bill. Maybe we read the situation wrong but that's how it seemed. We would just rather try 7 different menu items than only 2 entrees.

Yelp
Gotta start off by saying the service here is always awesome. Always attentive, down to have a lil chat, just good peeps. Came here for one fancy, sit down meal and the rest of the time popped in a lot for their happy hour. The happy hour is crazy cheap, 4/5 bucks for regular sushi rolls and a bunch of small appetizers for $4-$6. And cheap drinks! The sit down dinner stuff is deffffffinitely pricey. The food is good. Some of the food is really great. I can't imagine all the food is worth the prices they charge. The sushi is pretty expensive but it's pretty bomb. A lot of stuff going on but it's good. Really liked the bone marrow. The steak is good, it's not amazing but it's good stuff. If you're not paying...make a point to go here. If you are paying, go for it, get your monies worth, have a good time.

Yelp
Feng is amazing. I've been coming here for years and they have absolutely quality food. I generally sit at the bar and all of their bartenders and wonderful. As you walk into the restaurant you are greeted by stunning decor and mood lighting. Their menu is on the pricier side but considering the quality you're getting it's worth every penny. They do have a happy hour which provides a great selection of snacks and who can beat cheap delicious oysters. An absolute must try place if you're in the downtown Hartford area.

Yelp
Not sure why I have not yet written a review for Fengs. It's one of our favorite restaurants in CT. It has the two things that our family loves. Steak and Sushi. And you know what. They do these two things well. Feng is located in the heart of downtown Hartford. Parking is easy as there is a paid lot right in front. It's 10 dollars for 2 hours. Perfect. This restaurant is likely much busier during the week due to business travelers. They are usually not that busy on Saturday evening which is usually when we visit. Service is very good. The male waiter that we usually get knows the menu inside and out. I always get a feeling that he is part owner. But not sure. Food is overall very good to awesome. Could. you get better sushi and steak elsewhere? Sure But maybe not at the same restaurant. Overall the food ranges from B+ to A+. We usually get two sashimi appetizers. Yellowtail Jalepeno and the New Age Sashimi always hits the spot. . I usually get the porterhouse. It's cooked very well and very flavorful as it's aged...every now and then you may get one that's slightly over aged. But normally they are spot on. The rolls are very good overall. I think at this point we have ordered almost every single roll on the menu. I always get a bottle of Sake with our meal. For a 720ml bottle it runs about 48 bucks. Not a bad deal for you drinkers out there. To top it off we get the Mi Lady Crepe Cakes. Last time we went they no longer offered chocolate. What a bummer... but the green tea and the passion fruit is also very good. Our family loves Fengs. I highly highly recommend it.

Erin L.

Yelp
Updating this review to encourage doubters to retry Feng's. This location has a new sushi chef and has stepped up its already stellar 10 piece nigiri set. If you come by this summer too, you may have a chance to try their watermelon martini with a Tajin rim that was delicious. Same great space, even better food Thank you staff and kudos to the new chef!

Agnes P.

Yelp
I always have to adjust my eyes every time I come in here. It's always so dark but I guess that makes it more intimate. I am so glad they are serving something other than steaks this time. The previous time I there wasn't a sushi menu available. We asked for virgin drinks and those tasted pretty good. Don't ask me the name because I can't recall. The sushi was great too

Marney R.

Yelp
My first time at Feng. We had a group of 4 for We got the surf and turf dumplings and meatballs for apps. For the meal we shared some sushi rolls. We had plenty of food and everything was delicious. Our waitress was extremely helpful and attentive during our meal. Definitely will be back.

Rachel B.

Yelp
Great happy hour! The cocktail of the day was a rum punch, and all the apps were yummy! Our waitress was very nice.. we will be back

Russ K.

Yelp
Came back to Feng for lunch with party of 5. All enjoyed our apps and entrees. I had a poke bowl with tuna & a couple tuna-avocado-jalapeño 'tacos' (see pic). Service was very good.

Lindsay S.

Yelp
The food. The service. The ambiance. All three areas hit the target at Feng Chophouse. Whether you want your go to dishes or venture into something new, you will not be disappointed. Great place for a date night or a group of friends!

Portia L.

Yelp
Feng has some of the best sushi I've ever had in CT and some really amazing menu items.

Yelp
The best suggestion ever. I was in Hartford for work and wanted to have a really delicious dinner for my last night in town. Someone recommended Feng Chophouse because it was close to my hotel. We looked at their menu online and decided to give it a try because of the great happy hour specials. We arrived at 4:30 and received a friendly greeting from the hostess who shared we could sit in the bar area for happy hour. The area included a bar, high top, and standard tables with a street view. My colleague and I opted to sit at the bar. Our server, Cassie approached with menus and water. She gave us the run down of offerings and we started with a glass of wine and a freestyled mocktail. The glass was a standard glass of Sauvignon Blanc, while the mocktail was fresh and crisp with notes of lavender. The menu included sushi, dumplings, vegetables, short rib, steak, etc. With a large variety we had trouble making decisions. My colleague ordered surf & turf dumplings, and a dragon roll to start while I ordered Brussel sprouts. All of the dishes came out rather quickly and were absolutely outstanding especially the dumplings and sushi roll. The sushi roll was actually the best I've ever had, it was perfectly wrapped, large and extremely fresh. For entrees I tried the steak & cheese with fries and my colleague got the short rib. Both dishes were a generous portion and full of flavor. I was so happy I got the steak & cheese it was juicy and full of flavor. The fries were a large portion but left more to be desired they weren't seasoned at all and the blandness wasn't expected given how great everything else was. We were not able to finish everything so we took our leftovers to go for lunch the next day and I have never been so excited to eat lunch. Everything tasted just as good on day 2. We recommended Feng Chophouse to all who would listen and saved it to come back during our next trip. I definitely recommend checking this restaurant out for lunch, happy hour or dinner.

Rachel N.

Yelp
Came back to visit after a long (unintended) time away! Feng Chophouse has not changed from my POV. I came and met a girlfriend here on a Wednesday night in the freezing cold, yet the bar was still poppin and the restaurant was mostly filled. Always a good sign! We sat at the bar and were served by two bartenders. They were both fairly attentive and we sparked up conversation with one who was very friendly. Here's the skinny... It's always happy hour. The martinis are ~divine~. Definitely good bang for your buck and my bartender was nice enough to make my Lychee Martini a little less sweet for my liking. The wine is good, they have a fair amount of options, and it is fairly priced. Moving on to the most important part. We tried the Rock Shrimp at $15 which is a VERY generous portion. However, instead of drizzling the spicy aioli over top, it was placed in a cup on the side. (I know it sounds like it shouldn't make a difference but it did to us). The sushi quality is *chefs kiss*. Absolutely spectacular. The spicy tuna roll was made how it should be IMO- with big chunks of fresh tuna amongst tempura flakes and spicy mayo. However, the sushi tacos fell short of our expectations. They are two bite-size pieces that we were told were made with a soy nori shell but came out with seaweed. Seemed a little high at $12 for two. We each had one bite for $6. The sushi quality is high but it just seemed a bit steep. You may be better off sticking with just a regular roll/nigiri for the price here. You might need your flashlight. I LOVE a dark restaurant. I think it emanates an intimate, lavish experience. (And you can't see my dark circles). The speakers bump upbeat, funky elevator music made good. There are two TVs located at the bar if your team's playing, or if your bar buddy is a quiet one. Overall, the vibe in here is truly that of a chic New York hangout, even though the prices aren't . They close fairly early, and their happy hour is wicked short. Make sure you are ready to spend a pretty penny but just know you will walk out happy. Hope to be back soon!

Kimberly T.

Yelp
Great service. Great food. Loved the surf and turf roll and the waygu steak. Duck fat fries are fab. Brussel sprouts are bangin'. Autumn in CT Roll a pleasant surprise. Ambiance on point. Romantic and lively. Overall, fantastic night.

Zack G.

Yelp
Modern, dimly-lit, spot with a club-esk atmosphere, that serves both steaks and sushi Apparently the place is the product of combining both a high end steak and a sushi restaurant, so they have 2 distinct menu's for each. The steak menu is incredibly expensive however (and it even includes a 125$ steak), but they justify this by stating that they have a special salted atmosphere in which they age the stead I have come her for both lunch and dinner, and I had very different experiences. When I came for lunch I got a steak udon dish and it was very tasty, however when I came here for dinner with my GF we were very underwhelmed. For dinner I tried their miso soup and a sushi dish, but the miso soup was inedible and the sushi was very average. Table, bar, and sushi counter seating Solid drink menu

Mary G.

Yelp
Feng has been a presence on Asylum St in Hartford for about a decade, with a refurbishment of the space & menu a couple of years ago. The bartenders are friendly and consummate professionals, and Taylor always remembers what my favorite drink is! The sushi is always delicious and beautifully-plated. I haven't had any of the steak entrées, but the menu boasts many wonderful options of salads, soups, sandwiches, steak, appetizers and---of course--- sushi. The delicious foie gras dumpling appetizer is a must. My personal favorite is the yellowtail jalapeño with yuzu appetizer. Beautiful, streamlined, minimalistic-yet-elegant and classy décor, gorgeous bar and dining rooms separated by stately and ornate wooden doors. Even the bathrooms are pretty! I will always come here as a first option to unwind after work.

Sheba W.

Yelp
My first time here. I was definitely intimidated because I wasn't "dressed according" however, it is definitely misleading. The restaurant has a lounge area as well as a dining area. I ordered the steak. It was really good. Great service and an elegant ambiance.

Kazi S.

Yelp
This has now become one of my go to happy hour spots. The food here was incredible! It's not too busy around 4 PM on a weekday so we were at a table immediately. I love the ambience in here. This restaurant would make a great date night. For happy hour the sushi is five dollars which is an incredible deal. They have a bunch of other appetizer, such as dumplings and shrimp, and they were all really good! We'll definitely be making another trip here soon!

Justi M.

Yelp
In Hartford, I had a fancy maki roll which was awesome, lychee martini quite good, service was awesome, nice ambiance. The ribeye steak was not as good as I expected.

Nicole B.

Yelp
What a GREAT Spot! It's been a (whole lot more than) a minute since I checked out restaurants in the Springfield, MA/Hartford, CT "corridor." So I did one of my Yelp searches and found Feng Chophouse. I was pretty excited. I looked at the pics and read the menus and I honestly felt like it HAD to be good. I was not disappointed! I worked in downtown Hartford over 20 yrs ago. When the city (like every city in CT) was well overdue for any kind of investment. Well, at least on Asylum St that seems to now be an actual thing. Feng Chophouse is a beautiful spot. Really just a gorgeous, welcoming interior. Lovely finishes from the light fixtures to the tables and chairs to the bar. I sat at the bar, two nights in a row. Truthfully I showed up right at opening, 4pm and then camped at that bar. The bar has two big TVs showing news or sports. I LOVE a nice bar with a great vibe, TVs and good food. Feng Chophouse knocks it directly out of the park on all counts. I MUST mention the service. I think this was, honestly, The Best Service I've ever experienced dining out and we all know that I dine OUT! The waitstaff is fantastic. They know what they're doing, they are professionals, they've been there, done that and somehow were keeping all 3 of my beverages filled and with fresh ice in my water. For. Hours. Amazing!! (I actually order water and then I DRINK water, lots of it. That can be a real challenge for a lot of places...) The "fusion" of sushi/Asian food and Steakhouse seems genius to me. I don't eat beef, but the menu is impressive. I DID attempt to eat my way through the sushi/nonmeat offerings! There is not a bad Sake list and I had a bottle both nights. There is a Happy Hour menu 4pm to 5:30pm (might be only weeknights??) And the quality of the food offered for the prices is CRAZY!! I had 4 excellent, large, inside out sushi rolls from the Happy Hour menu. They were $5 each. Craziness. Such an amazing value. I made a plan before showing up on Day 1. There are actually two appetizer menus, plus are Sushi rolls and Nigiri and salads and side orders. I could graze my way through many items, which is always my goal. I don't want to commit to one, giant entree. Day 1: I ordered 3 appetizers off the "Feng Signature" menu; Hirame Maki, Otoro Caviar and Crispy Rice Sushi. VERY GOOD. All of them. Honestly, the type of menu items I've only had in NYC. Really, really good. High quality ingredients, well made, well presented. Each piece was the proper size for a sushi piece. Each piece of sushi maki or nigiri should be one bite. And not the kind of bite that almost cuts off your air supply. The sushi chef needs to know what they are doing to execute proper sushi. The chefs here at Feng know what they're doing. Their sushi technique is very good. And they are creating pieces and rolls to appeal to a pretty wide audience (i.e., steakhouse eaters, Happy Hour folks, the neighborhood locals, business peeps etc etc.). Which is pretty impressive. Caesar Salad. Very good. Especially the croutons and croutons are, honestly, usually terrible. I actually picked these out to eat! LOL Kimchi Fried Rice: DO NOT skip this side. DELICIOUS, also huge. They are not holding back with the portions here. Altho maybe skip the poached egg. Something went wrong with that (maybe a microwave??); the white was runny and the yolk was solid. The reverse of what you're looking for... For dessert I had two pieces of Faroe Islands Salmon Nigiri. Perfect. Day 2: started with 4 Happy Hour Rolls. Once again; I can't believe the quality for the price! SO GOOD. The Chophouse Salad (minus bacon). WOW!! GREAT SALAD. Best Salad I've had in a long time. GET THIS SALAD! Then I had 2 rounds of Nigiri: Otoro, Hamachi, Kinmedi, Hirame; Foie Gras (!), Kanpachi, Madai, Shima Aji. You do NOT need soy sauce with this Nigiri. Each piece is what I would expect at one of my great Omakase spots in NYC: complex, fresh flavors with each piece of fish. Lovely. Delightful. Fresh pieces beautifully presented. Then! Shishito Peppers app. Uhhhhh...this was A LOT of super delicious peppers. Really, really good. Dessert: Truffle Fries. I couldn't finish. These bad boys are actually Steak Fries and the portion, again, is enormous. Also! Hot food comes out PIPING hot. You need to pace yourself.

Restaurant A.

Yelp
I have been to many nice chophouse/ Japanese restaurant in Hartford area. Unfortunately, Feng Chophouse was very disappointing in food quality. The service was fine. The ramen noodle broth tasted like water. The noodle was no doubt microwave instead of submerging in boiling water. The texture of the noodles was starchy and not al dente, terribly prepared. Honestly, I think a pack of instant noodle (quality of the noodle) may be better than what I had. The staff acknowledge they were short staff but I see one of the owners on the phone, perhaps he can help??? Lunch is about $30 per person. Very disappointed. I will not return to this restaurant or recommend anyone who plan to spend $25-$30 dine in to go there for LUNCH! Definitely not brining a client there!

Chelsea F.

Yelp
Amazing! The bar area is really cool and has a great cocktail list. The restaurant space is great for a date night or special occasion. The menu has a mix of Japanese and traditional steakhouse. We tried a little of both and we're not disappointed with any dish that came out. The shrimp tempura appetizer is a must, as is the house cured bacon fried rice. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the pacing of courses was perfect. Dessert was also delicious. I'd come back here often if i lived closer!

Jessica P.

Yelp
This is the spot I've been waiting to try all year. Yes I know I'm late to the party. I wanted to wait for the perfect time and celebration and last week was that opportunity. My whole family went for my moms birthday. The best celebration I can celebrate. I cannot express how happy we are that we chose Feng! Because I was with 7 other foodies we were able to get. A good deal off the menu, I tried the sushi roll my dad got, the steak my brother got, the sea bass my mom had and the miso soup and spicy salmon tacos my daughter had. I also tried their kale salad and Caesar, the calamari and shishito peppers and of course my meals, the bone marrow and pork belly apps. Everything and I mean everything was fantastic! Every bite I had was delicious and exquisite. We all had some cocktails that were prepared perfectly also. Don't get me started on the desserts. We had creme brûlée and carrot cake and lava cake. The server was so kind and helpful. I can't wait to have a new excuse to go back and this time I'm trying the wagyu!

Yelp
Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4.5/5 An excellent Father's Day dinner at Feng Chophouse. Not many places where you can get great steak and great sushi under the same roof. Yellowtail jalapeno appetizer is familiar, but nicely done here. Thinly sliced and spicy, with the yuzu adding a welcome citrus contrast. My mom said her burger was on the salty side but the steak fries were great; thick and crisp. The 24 oz porterhouse that I split with my Dad was sliced for us on request and was perfectly cooked. Lobster tail was also executed well, with great texture and plenty of drawn butter. Brussel sprouts were crispy, with shallot, Thai sauce, and peanuts. Good flavor and texture, though perhaps slightly over cooked. The two sushi rolls we ordered (Chophouse, Toro Caviar) were really good. I prefer the latter one, as the otoro was soft. A bit too much creamy miso sauce on the Chophouse roll. We also had a piece of A5 Wagyu nigiri which was excellent, as expected. A5 Wagyu is so soft and delicious. Our server Lisa was great, she offered to take our pictures and they came out nice. Ambiance is that of a special occasion restaurant. Nice big doors and chandelier in the entrance, high ceilings. Tables not too close together. The lighting is very dark, and even the bathroom is dark, though there is a glowing blue sink that looks pretty cool.

Yelp
Beautiful place. Cozy vibe and great attentive service. Happy Hour at the bar is the way to go. Sample some (or all) of their amazing sushi rolls. They also have daily cocktails that are worth a try!

Yelp
Every year my girlfriend and I choose a place to have lunch and exchange gifts during the holiday season. She suggested to try this place out. I'm glad she did. The inside is very warm and welcoming, a real modern Asian feel. Our hostess was very kind and attentive. The food was excellent! I really enjoyed the Kale salad. The walnuts were slightly candied and toasted. The salmon was seasoned very well and had a slight crisp. It was cooked perfect. Feng is definitely a hidden gem. Great place to have an intimate dinner with your boo.

Yelp
Came here as a celebration for passing a certification exam recently, and the place did not disappoint! The place felt fancy, with low lighting and chandeliers, the servers were attentive, and the food was amazing. We ordered a lychee martini and a beer, along with the salmon crudo and hirame maki for the appetizers. For the main, we ordered a NY strip and otoro caviar roll and finished with a vanilla crème brulée for dessert. The hirame maki was my favorite dish of the evening! The sesame sauce with a subtle hint of truffle complimented the dish really well. The salmon crudo was also decent, but I found that eating the salmon and heirloom tomatoes separately tasted better than trying to eat the two together. The slice of otoro you get on top of the otoro caviar roll is pretty thin, so you'll taste more of the fish inside than the otoro outside, but it was still decent. The NY strip came out perfectly medium rare (compliments to the chef that evening), and the black truffle butter complimented the steak well. I will say the truffle wasn't as prominent in the butter, and the steak was slightly too salty for my taste buds, so it helped to eat it together with the veggies we ordered. The dessert was also one of my favorite dishes! I was pleasantly surprised with how delicious the vanilla crème brulée was. The vanilla wasn't overpowering, and the fruit on top was so fresh. It definitely isn't on the cheap side, but for special occasions I would definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
Just okay! Would I go back yes but I would try the steak. This visit we focused on the sushi. I felt it was just oversized. The service was slow. The edamame was great. The French onion soup was rich and could have used more cheese. The rolls were good flavor but just okay. The chocolate lava cake was very good. A little overpriced. The restaurant is quite large and reservation available on open table. The ambiance is nice and good for a date night.

Yelp
Feng chophouse has a special place in my heart with there amazing friend rice options. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very sexy, warm and comfortable. It offers amazing food options and a staff which makes it all perfect. The bar area is excellent as an after dinner spot!

Yelp
Was super excited to try Feng chophouse but ended up leaving slightly disappointed. App: miso bone marrow - this was tasty but was super small. 10 piece nigiri + roll: quality of fish was good and good variety. A5 wagyu with sweet potato hash and some vegetables: ugh I really love the wagyu and how it was cooked but the sides and sauce it came with really took away from the beef. I'm super glad I got the sauce on the side because it was really sweet. I basically just ate the wagyu and left the sides because it really did not go together. I think to preserve the quality of the A5 just keep it simple and do milder sides. Dry aged ribeye and creme brûlée was pretty good also. Service was average

Yelp
Best steakhouse I have been too by far! The A5 Wagyu Nigiri absolutely melts in your mouth! Every level of this dinner was next level! the sushi was extremely fresh and it showed and the flavors were everything. The duck fat potato side was amazing, crispy and covered in a delectable sauce! The Ribeye Steak was cooked to absolute perfection and was so perfectly tender! BOOK THE RESERVATION! TRY THIS PLACE NOW!

Yelp
Very friendly staff from the moment I walked in. I didn't have a reservation on a Friday night (RSVP recommended). Very nice ambiance. I sat at the sushi bar. Very good selection of appetizers. I had the Foie gras duck dumplings and they did not disappoint. The sashimi selection is fresh and well curated. Wide varieties of hot teas. Cocktail & wine selection looked good as well. I highly recommend this fine establishment. Service was excellent.

Yelp
First time I ever spit my food in napkin! It will take hours for our tummies to recover from the over greased over cooked flavorless "food" we just ate. No 2nd visit needed here, preferably no 1 st visit either. Add to that a 60 minute wait for an appetizer, assuming the crowd is here purely on location.

Yelp
I came here a few days ago for my birthday dinner and the moment I walked in it was so nice and pleasing to the eye! I love how asthetic this restaurant was and made for a great birthday or date night spot! We tried the calamari and the portion was so huge and generous , the taste was amazing too fresh and loved the spicy mayo and tomato sauce that came with it one of the best calamari I've tried ! The sushi rolls were great as well I love the spicy crab the most but all were very solid and fresh! The waitress was very nice and when we wanted mocktails she said they could creat something for us and they did not disappoint! The mocktail was the perfect balance of fruity and sweet! Loved it Dessert was creme brulee and it was also very good, sweet and crispy on top and a good portion to share. Feng chop house has steaks/entrees and seafood as well as a good variety of appetizers and desserts !

Yelp
Overpriced without quality to match. Look I don't mind paying 100 bucks for a steak to celebrate our anniversary but it should at least beat the one I got at a bar a week later. The tomahawk steak I got was more bone and burn than meat and taste. Ambiance is here all about branding, trendiness, an attempt to be NYC chic in Hartford CT, which frankly falls flat. I came here another time for cocktails with the guys and it was like, why is your logo branded into this burger bun? Who do you think you are? Service was 3/5, we felt forgotten a few times but were always able to pull someone when necessary. Place is all bark no bite.

Yelp
Mediocre meal when our first dining experience was very good- downhill on most points

Yelp
I indulged in a delightful culinary experience with the salmon accompanied by tender baby bok choy. The salmon was expertly prepared, boasting a delightful blend of sweetness and a crispy exterior that enhanced its appeal. The addition of corn further elevated the dish, its inherent sweetness harmonizing flawlessly with the salmon. The baby bok choy proved to be a burst of delightful flavors. Alongside this, I also sampled the shrimp cocktail, where the shrimp, unfortunately, lacked freshness, and the cocktail sauce leaned towards the milder side, missing that desired zest.

Yelp
Ambiance was a cool dark sushi house vibe which I loved, think high end with a gorgeous red chandelier. We tried the springtime roll and feng roll which was phenomenal. We also decided to try the surf and turf roll beautiful presentation with gold flakes, wagyu and lobster was ok but definitely better option like the feng roll or springtime roll. The drinks were fantastic and the servers was friendly.

Yelp
I hadn't thought of getting a steak in Hartford since Morton's closed, but the offer of Wagyu beef at Feng Chophouse sounded like it was worth a try. I arrived a little bit early for my dinner reservation, so I decided to wait for my buddy at the bar. The person at the front desk and the two bartenders were all terrific. When I sat down at the bar, the bartenders were dealing with a customer who had come into the bar already drunk. They handled it very professionally; they offered him a glass of ice water and encouraged him to drink it, and attempted to determine whether he had a safe way home. When he began to get a little confrontational, a manager finally stepped in to gently escort him out of the restaurant. Phew! I ordered a Negroni and a couple of pieces of nigiri sushi; the foie gras and the ebi. While I waited for the sushi, I noticed that the huge bar wasn't particularly well stocked. When the sushi arrived, one of the two pieces was clearly not foie gras. After my order was corrected, I found the nigiri to be delicious; beautifully prepared, delicate and fresh. My buddy arrived and we were relieved to find that the bar had not ignored Islay; they had Laphroaig 10 on offer. After our scotches, we went to our table. The waiter was personable, but was wearing his mask below his chin. If the bar manager hadn't told me that the entire staff was vaccinated against COVID, it would have made me a little bit uncomfortable. The waiter explained that the steaks are dry aged in a salt cave for 21 days. Past experience tells me that I prefer 55 days. We decided to split the 8 ounce Wagyu as an appetizer. My buddy ordered a ribeye and I ordered a porterhouse, with potatoes and brussels sprouts as sides. Unusually, Feng does not offer creamed spinach, which is my favorite steakhouse side dish. The Wagyu was good, although a little bit under-salted. I'm lucky enough to have had Kobe beef in Kyoto, and learned that the Japanese are not shy with sea salt. When the steaks appeared, they brought out two porterhouses. Of course, they had to replace one with a ribeye, but I also sent the other back to the kitchen, because it did not appear to have been seared much, if at all. When the ribeye and the replacement porterhouse appeared, neither was particularly well-seared. And the presentation of the porterhouse was not good, either. The meat was sliced off of the bone a la Peter Luger's, but the bone was placed strangely atop of the meat. While I think that the quality of the meat was fine, the cooking and presentation were lacking. Like the Wagyu, a little bit more salt would have gone a long way. This was a tough review to write, because I want Feng to succeed. We need a good steakhouse in Hartford. But while Feng might do nigiri sushi well, the steaks were a disappointment. On this night, I felt bad for the excellent front of house staff, because they were let down by the kitchen.
