The Best Hot Pot Spots In Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"If you’re looking for the genuine Sichuan hot pot article, head to Feng Hot Pot in Midtown Village. They have three broths: spicy beef tallow (it’s fiery), mushroom, and tomato soup with a fantastic sour tang. You’ll always find guests busy on self-ordering tablets, sipping from their soju bucket (it reminds of a citrusy beer sangria), or keeping their chopsticks in constant motion—the options are endless and the quality is excellent. But it’s not just the caliber of short rib and sweet potato noodles that's the draw here. It’s that unlike other hot pot places, you can take it all to-go. Take the Sichuan broth home and let your meat and veggies sit in the liquid inferno at your own risk" - candis mclean

Omg absolutely delicious! I like that unlike other hotpot places you can actually take your leftovers home. The flavor was nice and the portions are generous. This is hands down one of the best hotpot places I’ve tried. The fruit tea bucket was so tasty too. Service was friendly and helpful. They came by often to make sure everything was good.

Absolutely loved this hotpot place! The restaurant is beautifully decorated with unique design touches that make the dining experience feel extra special. The sauce bar is fully stocked with a wide variety of options — one of the best I’ve seen. The entire place is spotless, which really adds to the overall comfort. As for the hotpot itself, the flavor is incredibly authentic. Everyone should try the beef tallow pot — just like in China! What impressed me the most was the quality of the beef tripe. It’s hard to find fresh and tasty tripe in the U.S., but this place nailed it. It was clean, fresh, and had that perfect crunchy texture. Highly recommend for anyone craving an authentic hotpot experience!

The food is so authentic and tasty. The mushroom and spicy soup base was so tasty. I could taste the peppercorn! What a hidden gem. The meat was good quality, and everything was fresh. This hotpot is the best I have ever had. The waiters were all very kind and helpful, answering our questions. Must try!

Food is awesome! I've already been here twice in my short stay. Service is pretty good apart from a waitress I met today. She wasn't wearing a proper apron or the shirt with the restaurant's name on it. She was pushing around a cart and bumped into our table pretty hard at least twice without apologizing. After that, I was reaching to grab something in the pot and she took my bowl away. The one in front of me. I'd understood if she took it thinking I was done, but at that time, I was very obviously still eating. I stared at her and she went "oh, did you still need this?" Her attitude wasn't great. Apart from that encounter the other waiters and waitresses were super nice 🫶🏻

🚨🥵 HOT NEW RESTAURANT ALERT (literally) 🌶️🚨 If you’re looking to try authentic hotpot, I highly recommend this spot, approved by my boyfriend’s picky Chinese parents! This ala carte style hotpot spot has a great spread of protein, veggie and noodle options; there’s something for everyone. Our server Lindsay was the best—she was super helpful, attentive and friendly!! If you’re feeling adventurous, we recommend trying the spicy tallow soup base*** at MILD spice level to enjoy the rest of the eating experience. The Feng Hotpot chain is FAMOUS in China and Philly is their first location for the east coast! With authentic ingredients (aka the flaming hot pepper) imported directly from China, you know the broth will pack a punch 👊🥵 ***It is authentic and it is SPICY!!! We eat traditionally spicy foods including papaya salad and mapo tofu…the MILD option for the spice broth still had us reaching for our waters after every bite. Thankfully our waitress warned us and saved our tongues 🙌

As good as the authentic hot pot I had in China, but with higher-quality, fresher meat. My favorite is the thick-cut tender beef in various flavors—you can really taste and chew the quality. It’s well-marinated and extremely tender. The restaurant nailed the Chongqing beef tallow soup base and used high-quality oyster sauce in their sauce station, which is key to making a proper Chongqing dipping sauce. Just dip the thick-cut beef into the hot pot, boil for a minute, then dip it into the Chongqing sauce (oddly not listed near the sauce station), and you’ve got yourself a flavor bomb!

Some of the best hot pot we’ve had in the US. The spicy was pleasantly spicy which is rare when I order places here. The meat was super fresh and high quality. It’s definitely much more expensive than your average AYCE place but well worth the price in my opinion. The bucket fruit tea was great to sip on as a palette cleanser.

By far the best hotpot broth I’ve ever had! I’d say even better than Shoo Loong Kan. We had a reservation for 2 around 5:30 PM and were seated right away when we arrived. I think you must reserve to be seated. We chose a good time because it got super busy right after we ordered our first round. You can order from the iPad/kiosk at each table. There is a bin beneath/beside the table for coats, which did an excellent job keeping away the hotpot smell from our coats. There is also a side table with extra bowls, utensils, napkins, and water. They have single, double, and four-flavor broths. We did the double pot and chose the pork bone broth & the spicy beef tallow (sichuan level spicy). The pork bone broth was DELICIOUS! It’s undoubtedly the best pork bone broth I’ve had on the east coast, on par with (if not better than) Shoo Loong Kan’s pork bone broth. It was very rich in flavor even after refilling 2-3 times. I ate a whole basket of bok choy soaked in the pork bone broth because it was just that good! The spicy beef tallow is also good! The sichuan spicy level is indeed very spicy, so if you’re looking for something hot, this is it! You’ll be sure to feel it for days to come. The menu is NOT AYCE, it’s pay per dish. I thought the vegetables were a good deal for their price, since you get a whole basket full (of the cabbage and bok choy, at least). I thought the meat was good and well priced. For $10, you get about 8 rolls of sliced meat. We ordered sliced beef belly and I think 1-2 orders of the sliced beef belly is sufficient per person. We also tried the sliced beef short ribs for around $20 but I think the beef belly tasted better and it’s not as thick when cooked like the short ribs were. I wish they had the wagyu meat option available when we went. Not sure if it’s a seasonal option or they just run out of it as the day goes on. We will have to return to try the amazing broth with the wagyu in the future! There is a small sauce bar in the back of the restaurant. It’s about $2 per person. I thought the sauce bar was a little underwhelming/small, though it does have most of the main sauce options as other hotpot places. The highlight of the sauce bar would be the pig ear appetizer. Otherwise, I honestly thought the broth was so good that we wasted money getting the sauce bar option. We also ordered the Thai Iced Tea. It comes in a little mason jar cup. It was good but more on the bitter side in terms of taste. It’s definitely a good spacer to help cool yourself down though! They also have a shareable bucket of Passionfruit Tea that is delicious in conjunction with hotpot. The Strawberry Milk Snow is quite small but can be shared between 2 people. There is Popping Jelly and Strawberry Jelly at the bottom of the Strawberry Milk Snow with Hello Kitty-shaped Strawberry Frozen Yogurt topped with Whipped Cream, Strawberry Pocky, Strawberry Drizzle, and fresh cut strawberries. It sounds really good but I found it underwhelming and it’s probably the only item I’ve had so far from Feng Hotpot that I would NOT order again. Overall, you’re definitely missing out if you skip this restaurant. Even though it’s not AYCE, the broth is so good, you won’t regret it!
