The 35 Best Restaurants in Cartagena, Colombia | Eater

"Getting to this magical spot takes 15 minutes by boat from Cartagena, but the trip is worth it for a slice of tropical paradise. The island resort serves tourists and local sunbathers with a broad menu for any appetite. There are light dishes such as ceviches, tiraditos, and refreshing cocktails, as well as hearty mains like paella, its cousin fideua from Valencia, and a vegan version of the rice feast, too. Along with salads, soups, and tacos, other must-try dishes include whole fried fish with coconut rice and patacones (fried plantains), and a great posta negra Cartagenera (a saucy Colombian-style beef dish). 10 mins boat ride from Cartagena port. Beautifully decorated venue with sun beds and restaurant seats. Food was great with various options from salads, seafoods and meats. Visited here with a package purchase for half day and the price was reasonable. For the day time, recommended for family / couples. For the evening, good for couples surrounded by dimmed lights and fireworks.

We went twice. First day pass in the afternoon and the water isn’t blue.. it’s brown. During the day we had good music but we also had a romantic reservation for dinner and the decoration was really pretty but terrible terrible music for a romantic time.. the food was ok, nothing that’s worth remembering.

Nice setup on the beach but make sure you bring water shoes. Many rocks in the water. The actual water was not all that great. Food was amazing and service was great.

We did the beach day from Cartagena. We were a party of two that happened to go on the same day as a large group. We did not appreciate that we had to arrive to the Fenix Beach boat in Cartagena earlier than planned (they asked we arrive for the 10:30 am when we had booked the 11:30 am). If we could have returned to Cartagena at 3:30 or 4:30 pm as requested, the earlier arrival would have been okay. Instead, we were not allowed to return to Cartagena until the large group wanted to depart at 5:30 pm. It was a very long day for us and we did not feel our reservation was accommodated -- we effectively became a part of the larger group Fenix was more interested in accommodating. The drinks were very weak and we had to flag down servers. The lunch was really delicious but I could have done without a trip to Fenix Beach. It's easy to get stuck on the island all day long and the view is of the city (we expected something a bit more remote based on the photos). Overall, I would not recommend nor return.

Honestly, I am not sure why this hotel has so many good reviews. There is absolutely nothing special about it. The beach is dirty, the water is not nice to swim in with floating garbage, the view is mediocre, the rooms are just ok with no hot water. The workers generally were indifferent to your presence and will not go out of their way for you. There is some serious price gouging with food and drinks as there are no other options really. It seems to me the hotel was not properly maintained after it opened. I feel as though we wasted part of our vacation by going there. I would suggest to avoid Tierra bomba altogether.

Beautiful place. Best part is the awesome staff. With some ingenuity, they really saved our trip. A very special thanks to Anyela and Abraham!

I went home with food poisoning after a day here. Unsanitary conditions and misleading photos. Water is quite murky and beach is very rocky. Ants crawling all over the cabanas and towels are stained. Food is extremely mediocre and pool is filthy. Would not recommend.

Since my first visit some years back, this place has fallen apart somewhat. The pool was terrible and very dirty with no care or effort being given to cleaning it. The room we booked was not the one that we were given (booked a new mixer room and given a room that was falling apart with a bathroom outdoors in the rain!) with no apology or explanation. The weekend I stayed they were filming some reality show on the main beach so shuffled all guests to the side to eat in the reception area and get ignored whilst all the staff attended to the crew and show. No advance warning was given nor was any compensation offered. They were happy to take their cash with complete disregard for their staying guests. With so many new options on the island they need to clean and modernize their property. In the meantime I recommend you consider other nearby options.
