We came to Feral for dinner. We truly enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant. It created a classical and elegant European-style atmosphere. It was a very satisfying meal. The food was delicious with unique ingredients. The best part was when the waitress brought us the Tulip chocolate mousse dessert. It was not only delicious but also it was very creative and the coolest thing I've ever had. It made our dining experience extremely memorable. I want to give a special thanks to the two chefs who worked at the Farmer's Market on July 31st. You helped my husband with your kindness and generosity and you refused a tip. Both of you are amazing and valuable assets to the team and the restaurant.

Newest addition to downtown SLO, you must stop by for a visit, the interior is fascinatingly gorgeous. We came here during Christmas and loved all the decors. The restaurant was great with excellent service, well-crafted cocktails and the food was amazing. Forgot to take photos of the food. We will definitely return soon.

Wow! What an upgrade! I used to come to the bar that was previously at this location, and let me tell you, they've really spruced up the place! The inside is absolutely gorgeous! I came to grab some lunch and sat at the beautiful wood bar that it's known for and was pleasantly surprised by all the changes! Lovely low-key music was playing. You enter doors with brass snake knobs, the place was adorned with brass accents and bookshelves. has a warm and cozy feel with a library lodge vibe. The food and drink menu made it hard to choose. I ended up going with the shredded short rib sliders, the feral fries, and an IPA. It was delicious. Bartenders were all super nice and friendly and made good conversation. There's a lounge upstairs with another bar with couches to chill on. Perfect place to hang out out and grab a bite. Can't wait to stop by again and try something else on the yummy menu.

So, I would check the food menu if you haven't visited this place before. They just have a different spin on things. Not hateful, just different. The vibe and decor is very cool. Our service was very good, and the hostess, Taliya, was lovely. The cocktails were top notch. I just had a few Old Fashions with Rod & Hammer bourbon, but the wife had a few of their signature cocktails, all of which looked and tasted really good. We went during a time when it wasn't busy, cause we're old, and my wife is mean to people. A very cool place, worth a visit, and you will really enjoy the deco and atmosphere.

Had been wanting to try this place since it opened and finally got the chance. Place has a super cool atmosphere and the food was outstanding. Friends and I tried a little bit of everything but for starters the standout was the bread & butter. The short rib tacos were incredible and the beastly burger (feral style w the fried egg added) was unbelievable, definitely up there for one of the top burgers I've ever had anywhere. The tigers milk cocktail was also delicious. Cant wait to go back!

Anna Z.

Google
Stopped in for a light supper and cocktails. The cocktails were excellent. We tried the tigers milk and pandamonia. The Pandamonia was definitely my favorite. The short rib tacos were excellent. The farmers market board had lovely bread and radishes but too many pickled vegetables. Needed more balance of fresh to pickled. The pickling was also a bit one note. Despite this disappointment the atmosphere was delightful and the evening enjoyable.

Google
Feral Kitchen and Lounge is a total standout in downtown SLO. The vibe is moody, stylish, and super unique—like a cozy speakeasy mixed with a vintage lodge. From the moment my boyfriend and I walked in, we were treated like VIPs. Our server was amazing, and the attention from the staff made the whole experience feel special. The drinks were incredible—creative, well-balanced, and full of flavor. And the food? Next level. The hot wings were easily the best we’ve had in a long time, and every dish was delicious and thoughtfully done. This place nails it on all fronts: atmosphere, food, drinks, and service. We’ll definitely be back!

Google
The resplendent atmosphere and architecture reminiscence of a speakeasy style with overtones of lighting, complete with a large stuffed animal, staring down at you. That alone is an enticement to check out this newest establishment formerly the Mothers Tavern. The menu is mainly for carnivores, hence the name. I was surprised they didn’t go the extra mile to offer any local grass fed or organic dishes. My friends were happy with the tacos although quite greasy. I would say overall a nice addition to the SLO restaurant offerings. Good luck Feral.

Yelp
Taco Bell has nothing on Theo's Baja blast!! #competition fantastic service, had a great time, will be coming back.

Yelp
The last time I was in SLO town we walked in to check out the menu and see what this place was about. It was pretty cool the way that it was set up. We didn't stay. Well this visit we stopped in for a nightcap. We did get carded right when we walked in at the host counter. Let me just say this, when someone goes all out for Christmas, they really go all out. This place was no exception, it was amazing. I love the whole concept of the restaurant/bar. There's two levels. Both have a bar. Main level has the bar occupied one whole side. The layout of how everything is set up was pretty epic. Whoever designed and decorated this place has a key sense of style. It's a cross between a gentlemen's club with the tufted leather sofas and chair meets down the rabbit hole. Bookcases utilize one side with the tufted leather chair and tables. There's a little seating corner up front that gives off the gentles club vibe. Upstairs is also another bar. Smaller than downstairs but offers the same vibe. It's a balcony style lounge looking out to the main floor. Up there you have a couple of seating options. There two little private corner on one side. Of course all of tufted leather sofas and amazing trunks used as coffee tables. And the wallpaper, it was beautiful. Some of the toss pillows give Gucci vibes. It's like the VIP section but I don't know if that's offered. Seemed like it was first come first served. Like I said whoever was the decorator, they know what they're doing. And it was Christmas on crack. The whole place was decorated with loads of Christmas trees. There's a couple to table that look out to the lower levels. Also an incentive to come in, they had late night happy hour. We were there on a Saturday night just after 10 pm. I believe it's only Thursday to Saturday or Friday to Sunday. I don't remember but they did have cocktails for 8.00. Can't beat that at a bar. A couple margaritas was ordered, spicy to be exact. They were quite tasty and you can't beat the price. Besides cocktails, there were also bar bites on happy hour. Now that we know about this place, it's definitely on the list for the next visit. Even if we don't get a chance for a meal, there's always late night happy hour for a cocktail. The staff were all amazing and friendly. Drinks were great.

Yelp
We've wanted to try this spot for awhile now and finally made it in. Ambiance is awesome, the scavenger hunt for our daughter was a lot of fun. I like that they kept a lot of the MoTav vibe but gave their great twist on it. Cocktail menu is great. Comfortable space. Service was top notch. Food though is okay. I respect their cooking method as the meats are super tender, could be seasoned much better. Taco 'bout delicious was cooked great, but lacked flavor other than meat fat. Thank goodness for the pickled onions to give it some bite. The duck confit was equally flavor lacking, cooked great but just boring, definitely should take it off the menu as it is an insult to duck. Sadly the food highlight was the food we ordered for our 4 year old. The lil smashy meal was great. The burgers like everything else were cooked perfectly, pink in the middle, but they also had seasoning and sauce! Their feral sauce is fantastic. The fries were really good as well. Our friends said it was overpriced and mediocre. I think their pricing is fair, but they need to do better on flavors. The meats were cooked well but just lacking even salt, and I generally stay away from saltier food. Service was top notch and the place is a lot of fun. I'd stick to the kids menu though apparently.

Yelp
In looking for a place to get a later bite, my partner and I were really excited to try Feral Kitchen but boy, we did not have a good time. Which is a shame because the food was really good! Before we get to that though, let's talk about the experience. It's beautiful inside, and they kept the MoTav mirror which was nice. It feels very hunting lodge chic inside. We were greeted warmly by the host, who let us know that seating was at a premium but happily offered us the lounge or the bar. As we were just in for a quick bite, we opted to sit at the bar and the host assured us we were going to be taken excellent care of by the bartenders. Like he really sold us on it with his enthusiasm so we were excited. And y'all, those two bartenders could not have been less interested or enthusiastic at all to wait on us. Like it was borderline rude the entire time. I hate paying good money to feel like an imposition. The pandamonia was delicious though. The food, as I said, was really good. The Untamed Tartare is a hefty portion and super succulent. The Beef Me Up, Shorty is luscious, borderline decadent. If I lived in the SLO area, I'd come back but only to get my food to go. It's THAT good.

Yelp
Food was very good! Service was excellent and I love the environment in the restaurant. It is always a fun place to come and eat with friends and I am always satisfied! The Mac and cheese were definitely my favorite! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Had fun, cocktails, and appetizers with a friend here. Really cool old bar and upstairs area as well. Love the decorations. Excellent cocktails and delicious meat entrées. French fries may be the best I've had! We had good service and friendly waitresses. We were not seated right away as it seemed there was some confusion about a group coming. But she finally sat us within a couple of minutes upstairs. It was busy on Thursday night with the farmers market happening downtown.

Yelp
Came for a girls night on a Sunday night as walk in! There was no wait time and we were able to get a cute lounge seat upstairs by bar and service was great and drinks and food came super fast! I got the Pandamonia cocktail! I love gin and this was so refreshing and not too sweet. Loved it We shared some apps and did family style dinner. We got the following dishes: - farmers market board: a few pieces of bread with veggies and hummus dip - caldera crudo: fresh hamachi with a citrusy cucumber salad with yuzu flavors; super refreshing app - short rib tacos: super well flavored and tender beef! definitely a little on heavier side but super good

Yelp
We stopped here for dinner on a Friday night. We were drawn in by the amazingly gorgeous decor. It's opulent inside! I love the maximalist design. We split the Caesar salad and the macaroni and cheese. The Caesar was very good! Crisp lettuce, delicious dressing. Very fresh. The Mac and cheese was out of this world good. Gooey cheese over large pasta shells, with a Smokey meat flavor. I would eat this over and over! Service was fantastic. 5/5 great restaurant

Yelp
Visited Feral for our second time. The atmosphere is incredible here and our server Haven was great. We began with the bread and butter which was good but they changed the bread since last visit a year ago and we preferred the bread from before. The bone marrow was also better last time as it was a little greasy this time. We had the braise the bar for our entree sorry no picture and I have to say again much better last time. Much smaller portion this year and not as flavorful. Overall still a great experience for our anniversary but not sure if we will make it here next year on our annual anniversary trip.

Yelp
My family and I dined at Restaurant Feral and loved the atmosphere. The restaurant radiates a classic and elegant European ambiance. The food was fresh and delicious, and the highlight was the tulip chocolate mousse dessert. It was not only delicious but also incredibly creative and one of the coolest desserts I've ever had. The feeling of DOUGHJÁ VU is very similar to Bubba Gump's Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae. It is compelling. It made our dining experience truly unforgettable. The names of all the dishes are very unique. The menu is fun to read and there are many diverse options.

Yelp
Visited Feral for a birthday lunch and it was fantastic! We enjoyed the calamari and churasco steak. The char on the steak was beautiful and the sauce on calamari was so tasty! Wish the calamari was a bit crispier though. We ordered the honey bear and Panamania cocktails - yum! 5/5 Service was great and they even gave us a delicious birthday treat! Can't wait to visit again

Yelp
We came in one night during a farmers market. We sat upstairs in a lounge style because there were no other tables available. There was also another bar on the upper level. For a Thursday night, the place was packed but service was surprisingly quicker than I expected. We got our drinks and food fairly quickly. The burgers were large and very juicy. The tacos were amazing and the dip was so good. Something fun to do was their scavenger hunt. There was a list of items to look for around the place. It was fun and notice all the detail in the decor. We didn't get to try the cocktails but the ones we saw looked good.

Jason M.

Yelp
Visited Feral for drinks. Ambiance was amazing (esp around the holiday), drinks were creative and well-made and service was friendly and attentive. Very cool spot downtown SLO - we'll be back!
google avatar

Gladys E.

Yelp
Came for the drinks and this place did not disappoint. They were beautiful and tasted so good. The ambiance was cozy and quirky. A very cool place. Both bartenders were super friendly and gave great suggestions that did not fall short of a great drink. Will be back for dinner.

Yelp
We were here during Cal Poly's family weekend, visiting my godson with my bff, and put our names in at several busy restaurants while walking around... Feral was the first opening. This was the best meal I've ever had. I will dream about this meal. I'm not gonna lie, I'm depressed that I will most likely not eat here again for a long time, as I live far away. Our table got the bread and butter to start. What's so great about that? Let me tell you... the crispy bread/cracker things dipped in this delectable whipped butter goodness. There were some crunchy and sweet nibbles in it - I have no idea, but we dug into that with spoons and all mmmmm'd our way through it. I wanted a jar of it to take home. So good! Then there was a salad that was soooo amazing. I don't remember what it was called but it had goat cheese on it, I think, and we attacked it with gusto. Then I got the mac n cheese with shortrib - holy balls was that amazing in my mouth. Then my godson shared his fries. Again, I don't know what was on it - cheese? Grilled onion? - but it was delicious! We all groaned in gluttony delight throughout this meal and I probably gained 10 lbs but I don't care! It was a pricey bill - but everything is now - and I would consider selling all my worldly goods for another crack at this meal. Also, there was a moose above my head.

Yelp
Only came here for a cocktail. The bartender team was very nice. The decor is super unique and keeps you looking everywhere. The cocktail was spot on. I'd come back to try the food next time
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Three trips one of them was an appetizer and some cocktails, which was great. The other meals have been very poor. This last trip they have an appetizer of Calabrian chicken wings when we got them they were just regular deep fried vinegar soaked chicken wings. We were so disappointed that we canceled our food. Paid our bill and went to Piadina for an amazing meal. We have wanted this place to be amazing as the menu reads but the food is so disappointing
google avatar

Ella G.

Yelp
Wow wow wow!!! What a place!!! Loved the ambiance, loved the whole vibe. Great staff too!! Drinks were delicious, I definitely need to come back when I visit again. Next time I'm sitting downstairs at the bar area.
google avatar

Bianca V.

Yelp
Ambiance 10/10 love the dark academia kind of vibe. It was very cozy for a rainy December evening. I ordered the confit duck, Side of Mac n cheese, and the hangar steak. All delish. The confit duck came in a shallow bowl of brothy beans. And it was PERFECT for the weather. Hangar steak was probably my favorite tho. The Mac n cheese was dusted with jerky instead of the usual bacon bits you'd get from these places. I'm a fan. Hoping there's a season menu rotation or something for the summer months.

Yelp
Oh, my, oh, my. Yes, one must, must, when in downtown SLO, stop into the newly-opened Feral's. So fascinatingly gorgeous. What once was Mother's Tavern, is now the exponentially more beautifully unique Feral's. Interesting menu, well-crafted cocktails, exceptional service, and the feral creatures within don't bite.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Stopped by Feral, formerly known as Mother's Tavern. Walked in and immediately felt like I had accidentally stumbled into an interior designer's fever dream--a mashup of a swanky library, loft, bar, and lounge. Instagram influencers, take note: this place is begging for a photoshoot with its eclectic sofas and edgy wall art. The drink menu? Amazing! I was ready to toast to the decor, the fact that the week is almost over and the vibes. The food, though? Let's just say I wasn't feeling particularly feral after looking at the menu. This is more of a 'sip your cocktail and head somewhere else for dinner' kind of place for me. I didn't try the food, just didn't like the selection like I loved the drink menu. Shoutout to our server, though! She was on top of it. If the food selection was half as good as she was, I'd probably still be there. Feral is a one-and-done drink spot for me. Cheers!
google avatar

Carrie S.

Yelp
Everything was amazing BUT what is up with the audiobook in the bathroom?!? I get it's trying to fit the feral theme with Where the Wild Thing Are, but it seriously creeped me and my friends out. Bar bathrooms are no place for Children's audio books... duh? I would suggest more of a Rainforest Cafe vibe (ie jungle noises) and leave the kids out of it.... Will be back once they fix this!
google avatar

Till W.

Yelp
Trigger warning: not for vegans. With taxidermy all around the place, one thing is clear. There will be meat! We walked around downtown and stumbled onto here. I could clearly see the awesome decor from just walking by. I had to ask my husband to check it out! It used to be Mother's Tavern, which I did not get to visit before they closed down. However, this place has such a cool vibe. It reminded me of my Asheville vacation from years ago! The cocktails were very robust and the food portion was decent! I would come back again, for sure!
google avatar

Chubby P.

Yelp
Lovely spot for drinks and food! Definitely more upscale than the other bars nearby and the short rib mac and cheese is unbelievable. Fun decor and theme. Nice cocktails and perfect for groups or dates!

Trevor A.

Yelp
Recently went into feral for dinner while on a trip to beautiful San Luis Obispo. Just wanted to share my thoughts so people could experience the great service and food for themselves. Denzel Quarterman was my bartender. He was very attentive and charismatic. The food was excellent but we did want to point out the bread and butter that Denzel requested tasted amazing. the ambiance, food and service from denzel was more than we expected. Hope that you guys can experience the same enjoyment for yourselves. Cheers!
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
I'm so happy we stopped by your stand last night at the farmers market! The food was amazing! We ordered the Mac and cheese topped with tri-tip and the tri-tip sandwich topped with Mac and cheese. Soooooo delicious!!! The only thing I found myself wishing for was a knife because the tri-tip sandwich was so full of juicy meat it was hard to pick up! We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
We had the pleasure of dining at Feral Kitchen & Lounge during our anniversary and I must say the atmosphere is stunning, the staff was attentive and the food and the craft cocktails were absolutely amazing! We definitely will be back to enjoy this stunning restaurant!
google avatar

Xavier C.

Yelp
Great food, amazing service and elegant ambiance! The tacos, steak and calamari are delicious! Some of the best I've had. Jenny our server was super nice and accommodating. Must dine in SLO!!!!
google avatar

Janice M.

Yelp
Can't wait to go back! Had such a great experience at Feral the other night, the atmosphere is cool and relaxed. Very much a speak easy vibe. The service was great, everyone was friendly and quick to help us, food and drinks were served promptly. The food was amazing, so delicious. The calamari had a yummy orange chili sauce drizzled on top which was a surprising pairing. The chicken was cooked to perfection, vegetables were soft but still had a good crunch. The short rib sandwich was full of flavor and the consomé to dip it in was a great addition! Everything tasted phenomenal!

C M.

Yelp
Uggggg!!! I want to love this place. The vibe is super cool. The menu is creative and the drinks are definitely picture perfect. Once you get a little closer though, cracks start to appear. The food in particular falls short. The drinks are pretty, and thats the only compliment I can give. The staff tries to stay upbeat, you can feel the tension. We won't be wasting any more time or money here.
google avatar

Yelp
The relatively "new" Feral Kitchen and Lounge now occupies the past Mother's Tavern location on Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo. At night the crowd waiting to enter is amazing. Why? Well Feral Kitchen & Lounge seems to be the place "to see and be seen". No reservations here dear Yelp Review Reader, you'll just have to wait to gain entrance. The decor is "swanky, as in Las Vegas bold" ...something to see everywhere you might look. The long Bar (downstairs) draws you in for a sociable Drink...the Upstairs Bar does the same with a more "Lounge-ie" atmosphere. Regardless for this evening...we were here to enjoy a dining experience. We were seated in the booth next to the staircase and quickly received the Menus. Our Server (Jules) was knowledgeable regarding the items on the Menu, personable and attentive. For Drinks we selected: Tigers Milk (2/5 - we didn't care for this and sent it back) Instead we had 2x Expresso Martini (5/5 - yummm) From the Snack Time Menu we ordered Appetizers: DUCK, SLIDE AND ROLL (4/5), BEEF, SLIDE AND ROLL (4/5). From the Menu's Graze offerings we tried the Untamed Tartare (5/5...really tasty), Not So Sweet Breads (5/5...if you've never had this, give it a try) and the Woodland Salad (5/5). Moving on to the "Get Your Feast On" section of the Menu our Mains selected were the Beastly Burger (5/5...delicious) and a Beef Me Up Shorty (5/5). Reflectively...the food was "spot on" and we enjoyed everything we ordered. For our shared Dessert we tried (mostly because of the name) the Moose In The Tulips (5/5...turned out to be a really yummy choice). There was plenty to take home. The company was good, the customer service from Jules "epic", the Menu offerings we tried were delicious and the atmosphere "entertaining"...resulting in a very enjoyable experience...which we shall, with certainty, repeat in the foreseeable future. I suggest dear Yelp Review Reader you might do the same, because on this occasion...in this Yelper's opinion, Feral Kitchen & Lounge in SLO truly rose to the occasion and earned this " highly recommend" 5 Star review.

Yelp
Incredible drinks, atmosphere, and very friendly staff. Bartender Theo and Morgan had fantastic personalized recommendations and incredible service. Big fan, will be returning ASAP.

Noelle S.

Yelp
I asked a question and Theo crafted the most delicious cocktail I've ever tried. Staff has incredible information about drinks it was so fun to watch his craft 10/10 experience i genuinely enjoyed it so much. So fun to have a bar with experience and knowledgeable staff. Thank you again Theo fantastic experience. We then chatted with the whole staff and Morgan and Theo was incredible I highly recommend their service they genuinely made my experience
google avatar

Tammy M.

Yelp
I did not eat at Feral kitchen but I certainly enjoyed the ambiance of sitting in the beautiful establishment and enjoying a craft cocktail. The bartender was terrific- very knowledgeable and able to accommodate my request for a spirit forward not too sweet libation. The drinks are beautiful. The decor is fabulous and I can't wait to return. The bar menu looks amazing but I had already eaten.
google avatar

Yelp
I can already tell this is about to be the new hot spot downtown!! For a place that's brand new, they did such a great job all around that you'd think they'd have been around for years!! The service was fantastic, food and drinks were unique and delicious, and the interior was very fun/appealing taxidermy aesthetic lol :) much needed to keep downtown new and bustling!!
google avatar

Sarah U.

Yelp
The atmosphere is awesome! Dark, elegant, comfortable. Sat upstairs for cocktails. Comfortable couch. Wonky table tho, glasses slid into the center. Very nice bartender. Great cocktails! I had to knock off a point for the food though. Tried 2 apps, the "cheese fries" I can't put into words how bad this was lol. The market veggie board was disappointing too, it was tiny and basically all pickled.
google avatar

Michele B.

Yelp
Coolest place. Great vibe. Great drinks. Service perfect. Nice happy hour menu. Scavenger hunt was fun.

Alexa W.

Yelp
Amazing service from both Theo and Dani. Our drinks were perfect and they have been super kind on multiple occasions despite it being really busy. Feral has an amazing vibe and the bartenders are super welcoming. Would definite recommend!
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
Haven was an outstanding server who gave us detailed info about food we weren't familiar with. She was delightful and invested in the restaurant and its success. The manager noticed we had a slight delay in receiving our meals and jumped in voluntarily and offered a complimentary dessert that was delivered with sincerity and charm. Food was great, and still impressed.
google avatar

Kailey B.

Yelp
Jack S. Was our server for date night and he is so sweet & a great server!! Made the experience 10x better, very knowledgable! Request him if you can! Mac & cheese was really good & the woodland salad was amazing with chicken!

Yelp
Such a chill lounge and experience Dimitri was a killer server , Ferrell has done it again

Jessica F.

Yelp
The drinks are amazing, decor is above and beyond. Talia the hostess was very helpful...warm smile and made our ladies night a great time.

Yelp
The consome was outrageously good, highly would recommend to anyone! And the butter and bread is a must try

Yelp
Drove over to the beach for the day, stopped by San Luis Obispo to walk around and stopped in for a drink. The inside is very classy and had a nice relaxed atmosphere. Our server was very friendly and chatted with us about the farmers market happening that day. Definitely looking forward to coming back here!
google avatar

The Y.

Yelp
Looked at their menu and was really impressed with the way it was set up. Enter and a very polite hostess got me set up at the bar, where a polite, professional bartender do a pint and provided me a menu. Downhill from there. The cheese fries advertise as containing caramelized onions. When the plate arrived, I dug in with my fork and realized that the onions were not caramelized at all. At the best they were sweated, but nowhere near caramelized. Bar got busy and I was hungry so I started to dig in around. But the failed onions really threw me for a loop. Decided to use my time to go elsewhere on the basis that if they couldn't pull off that simple component central to the plate, then my luck isn't getting any better with an entrée. Disappointed and hope for them it was just a fluke.

Yelp
Stopped in on my way up the Central Coast. Love stopping by SLO and so great to see a new restaurant! Longtime visitor of Mother's, but it was time for a change. Food is OUTSTANDING. I had a three course dinner starting w housemade bread and hamachi crudo (the bread is to die for. Seriously. Get it. You will lick your plate and it's well worth the price). Crudo is a little heavy on the ponzu sauce so get it on the side if you're not a ponzu fan. Followed that w short rib and bread pudding, paired with house cocktails to perfection. Huge thanks to the bar staff - Denzel is a classy wizard of liquor and makes a mean drink, and Cody is a sweetheart who provided a spot on pairing for my dessert cocktail. You guys rock! Buy them a gift card each, seriously. Hospitality is tough to do well these days but these two killed it. Overall, a fantastic new addition to downtown SLO. Looking forward to visiting again soon!!
