Google
Nice trail. A green area right in front where you can lay down and take a nap, read a book, have a picnic. Then if you keep walking there are a few different trails you can take. There’s one I. The beginning to the left with a stream. Very serene. Nice atmosphere. Free parking and Not that difficult to find. One trail can take you up to the observatory.

Google
I like this route very much. It is full of shade and will not be exposed to the sun. It is very suitable for taking children. In summer, you can find some crayfish in the creek.

Just as I remember it from childhood: lush, well maintained and quiet.

A pleasant thoroughfare street with nature on either side.

Yelp
There's a place called TRANQUILITY and it's Ferndell. The beautiful nature walk through the trees , creeks, and sounds of light splashing is one of the most incredible moments of my life. It was nice to put the phone away and just bask in a serene environment with an opportunity to reflect. The lower part of Ferndell is the perfect path for beginners, nature enthusiasts or just to get out in the open. I love that there's a playground so all the kids could leave me be (LOL). I'm also a fan of the accessible entrances from the street, as it makes it easier to locate your car. My only criticism is that this trail needs ACTUAL bathrooms, not outhouses. The outhouses looked absolutely horrible. I recommend using the restroom before coming here! Otherwise, this place is beautiful and I love it. Note: if you're a pro hiker or super athletic and walk on a regular basis, I recommend going to the upper part of the trail which is not pictured and is close to the observatory.

Yelp
totally fun, easy to hike and accessible nature park that was created over 100 years ago. If you're in LA definitely come here. It's cool. There are turtles, fish, and stream to walk along while you're here. Check out trails Café. They're pretty delicious and it's a beautiful setting outdoors.

Yelp
So I ended up here after getting lost going to another nearby hike. I arrived at the parking which you can use until 10am without paying which was nice. The start of the trail is right at the parking lot so it worked out great. Not sure which exact route I took but I really enjoyed it. There were a good amount of people on the trail but the views were great. I will definitely be back and do this trail again. The trail is a easy/medium depending the route you take up but worth it for sure.

Yelp
Definitely, one of my favorite hikes around the area! This trail leads to different places. The paths just keeps on going. It's clean, well-maintained, and surrounded by nature. If you're lucky, you might see wild life. For the most part, parking is not an issue, especially before 9am, maybe 10am. There are street parking and a parking lot up on Fern Dell Drive.

Yelp
I like discovering new hiking trails in LA and this is by far my favorite one! Personally, I think it's a pretty easy trail that leads you up to the Griffith Observatory. There are multiple different paths you can go on if you don't want to go to the Observatory. There's people of all ages on this trail and very pet-friendly. I'd say it's about 2 miles of a hike with limited steep uphills. The entrance was sort of hidden, but once you find it, there were a lot of trees and plants around, so there were shady areas if you need a break. Coming down, we also found a little park with bathrooms. A lot of people stopped here to play with their dogs. I came before 6AM on a Saturday, so I didn't have trouble finding parking at the bottom or didn't feel it was too crowded. However, coming down from the trail towards 8AM/9AM, it started to get busier and parking seemed more scarce. It does get sunny pretty quickly, so remember to bring water and wear sunscreen.

Yelp
Love this trail. It's easy enough for my kids and the view from the Observatory is great!

Yelp
Easy and short! It is a perfect hiking trail for folks like me who may not be in the best shape and don't have plans to improve, but enjoy working on our step goal in nature with a panoramic view that sweeps from DTLA to the ocean on clear days. Highly recommended after rain. Just to avoid confusion about where the trail begins for this review, I start at the trail that begins where Western Avenue ends and turns onto Los Feliz Boulevard. The break at the Griffith Observatory is always enjoyable even on the weekends when the area is flooded with tourists. When time allows, I pause to take in the city from the observation decks. It is breath-taking at times. Sometimes, it is overwhelming that I am one of so many... Nearest Metro Station: Red Line at Hollywood/Western Station While at the hiking trail: East Hollywood Farmers' Market is open just right outside of Metro Red Line Hollywood/Western Station every Monday and Thursday from 3:30pm to 7pm per market's website. There was a tamales/pupusas stand at the market and OMG! I was starved after the hike and their tamale saved me. It was a pretty darn good tamale. Worth stopping after the hike for sure.

Yelp
This is a nice short hike with a great amount of greenery and shade. I find it very calming to walk along the pools of water, it's probably the only place with a stream in Griffith Park. It feels very fairytale garden. The path is only about a quarter mile, so it's more suited for a walk if hanging out on the grassy area on Fern Dell drive or after eating at the nearby Trails café. For a longer hike it's better to start here for a bit of scenery then up to the Observatory which is about an extra mile one way. I like the Observatory hike yet I don't do too well in heat so I think Fern Dell is a much better alternative in the summer.

Yelp
At the top of any to do list for LA is Griffith Park. Not only will you get the chance to hike some great trails overlooking the LA area but you will also get some great photo opportunities. Firstly, the park is free to access There is free parking available on the lower slopes. I would not recommend the $10/hour parking near the top as that is a huge ripoff in my opinion. There are miles and miles of trails and the trails are dog and group friendly. The great views and a great workout is hard to beat here.

Mahmut E.

Yelp
This is a very popular hike. Trails are always crowded. There are three ways you can do this hike. You can park your car next to the Greek theater parking lot. Right across the Greek theater parking lot, there's a trail that goes all the way up to the observation platform. There is also a very good trail next to the bird sanctuary sign. It is steep but it goes all the way up to the observation platform. Or you can take it easy hike and go through the observation parking lot through the Berlin park. There is no way of getting lost in trails are usually really wide. There are two restrooms, one is by the parking lot next to Greek theater, and the other one is a bigger restroom next to bird sanctuary sign. Dogs are OK. As long as they are on leash. Absolutely no smoking or fire. If you hike through Berlin park, there are picnic tables that you can have your food. Also all the way up at the observation place, there are four tables to picnic.

Yelp
The Fern Dell Hiking Trail is more like a walk in the park! If you don't or can't go uphill for health reasons but want to get some exercise, this trail is perfect for you. Or if you have a toddler with you, or it's hot and want to stroll somewhere in the nature, this path is perfect. Very shady, cool, some people around, but easy going. The parking lot is near by, there are some restrooms in the proximity. This place is convenient and perfect for an afternoon stroll, relaxing, surrounded by nature. Nice plants to look around and some small ponds. Great little spot within Griffith Park!

Heidy M.

Yelp
Great family friendly trail located right off of Los Feliz. Parking can be tough but this is a residential area that offers endless street parking with not many restrictions. You may need to walk a bit more than you planned but it's not too bad. This was our first time on this trail and it's an easy 2 miles to the Observatory. About .5 miles up it forks off and you can join the trail that leads to the Hollywood sign and do both hikes. The trail is clean, plenty of trash cans throughout, compact dirt and clearly marked. Pretty views of downtown, the Hollywood sign, and Culver City. The trail leads you and ends directly at the entrance of the Griffith Park Observatory. The trail was busy but it didn't feel crowded to us, some dogs off their leashes, a few kids being kids and a fruit stand at the bottom near the play structure. We did see a few out houses at the play area but nowhere else along the trail, no shade, bring water and wear sunscreen. There is little to no cell phone reception for a majority of the trail, hike safe and enjoy!

Hannah A.

Yelp
It was fun! Pros: -shaded -easy -short Cons: - Almost every dog I saw there was on a Flexi leash pulling their owner or rushing up to other dogs which is not safe especially if you have a dog who doesn't like other dogs (like mine) -some people were not wearing masks

Yelp
The lower part of the trail has a great shaded path to walk and get out in nature in LA without getting cooked. It has a partially filled stream with many little waterfalls to give you a cool feeling on a hot day. It is not hard or taxing, its just relaxing, more for a stroll than hike. If you really want to get a workout in you can continue all the way from the entry on Fern Dell dr to the top to the observatory. Its also nice that the little cafe is right there as well if you just want to hang out and have a snack or coffee. Its nice having the option to just hang out and relax, go for a relaxing shaded walk, or get a serious workout in, all in one nice area. If you can get here early in the day its recommended because later it will be packed!

Kerri L.

Yelp
My family was visiting, kids are 6, 8 and 9 and we took the trail up to the observatory, we parked pretty far back so it ended up being a little over a mile up. Sneakers were covered in dirt. But there's a park covered by trees with a vendor selling ice cream so the kids enjoyed the little hike.

Luiza K.

Yelp
Super cute and fun hike with kids along a winding trail following a small and nicely kept creek. You can see turtles and frogs if the day is nice and warm, plus it's a shaded hike so it's always nice and pleasant. Up the trail there is a really fun children's playground area suitable for both younger toddlers and older children. 5 stats

Breanna S.

Yelp
Went here yesterday, and was lucky enough to find the closest parking next to the entrance of the trail in the afternoon! Walking into the trail, it was extremely muddy, but I found out that I guess it rained the day before. Saw the little and medium sized fishes along with turtles. I made it to the hiking area which led up to the Observatory. It was a nice hike, overall! I would love to come here again in the future. This area is kid friendly and there's a park in the trail :) Also spotted the Cookie Monster

Sharona H.

Yelp
If you're looking to hike and also enjoy beautiful views this is the place. There's ample parking near the sign that says "Ferndell" and you can walk through that beautiful path begins at the sign. It looks like a scene from the secret garden, it has little ponds and beautiful arches of trees. Follow this path onto a 1 mile hike up to the Observatory. Beautiful views, highly recommended!!

Yelp
The park was nice and shady and if you're feeling energetic, the hike leads to great views ~~ Perfect spot for a picnic or date

Yelp
Love love this hiking trail been coming here since I was a kid.. I gasped when I couldn't find it on yelp. Gasp! I have preferred this one over all the other ones. You have to enter on Fern Dell Dr and Franklin instead of on Franklin and Vermont. It is closer to (Western Avenue). It is very steep at the beginning right before you get to the observatory. You're actually hiking from the bottom up to the observatory. As you hike up you a get a glimpse of beautiful busy Los Angeles and a blend of beautiful Mother Nature. There are a lot of people and puppies on the trails. You can take pictures of the Hollywood sign and the observatory during your hike. You can also hit up Trails restaurant at the bottom that serves iced/hot coffees, teas and lemonades. They also have quick bites, sandwiches, granola and yummy ass pies. They are vegan friendly! The parking situation can suck if you get here later so we got here before 8 am. Great Hike overall! We did 5 1/2 miles from the bottom to top (passing the observatory of course). Will continue to hike here!! *So from the beginning of the trail on Franklin and Fern Dell it takes a mile to reach the observatory.

Sophia C.

Yelp
Great little stroll - really lovely with lots of shade, a creek the runs the full length of the nature trail (about 0.7 mile) and if you're really ambitious you can do another 1 mile uphill to the Griffith Observatory. The creek is full of cute little crawfish, fish and turtles. There is a free parking lot at the far end of the nature trail and while it gets crowded, people are constantly leaving so it's not hard to find a spot even on a Saturday late morning. For kids , there is an adorable playground (and bathrooms) right by there as well. Most everyone I saw was compliant with mask wearing which was a huge bonus for me.

Yelp
This is one my favorite hikes in LA. We park down by the food hut where the parking lots are located and walk up towards the Observatory then on to the top. The trail can be dusty at times and you must watch for snakes especially if you have a god but its well maintained and a very effective work out if you walk to the top. Try to go earlier in the day bc the parking lot does get full the later you wait and the sun gets hotter too. There isn't much shade so wear sunblock, wear a hat, and bring plenty of water b/c it does get very hot. Great views of the Hollywood sign as you walk to the top and wonderful views of LA all around. This trail is even nicer if you catch LA after gettin some rain. This was always one of my go-to hikes when I lived down there to bring friends when they came in from out of town.

Amalia M.

Yelp
The Ferndell trail is nice, easy, and peaceful. It's a tiny walk path with trees and tiny ponds. There is a parking lot nearby that is free and there is street parking. The trail is well maintained and it's a good warm-up before tackling the other trails. There isn't much to see in the trail except for trees, bushes, and ponds. It's flat with no inclines so it's a good walking path.

Kien H.

Yelp
This is a hike with a nice payoff at the top, ending at the Griffith Observatory. Alternately, you could keep going and it becomes a nice workout. I have not completed the entire 5 1/2 mile hike; but rather, just the 1 mile distance from Fern Dell to the Observatory. The hike is a nice blend of Jumanji, trail, and tourist attraction. Awesome bonus in that it is dog friendly (at least for the first 1 hr) and that on the bottom there is a playground that kids can tire themselves out at.

Michael S.

Yelp
This hike trail its amazing!! there is a lot of shade and nice flowers to take pictures of, i like the way is shape with a small bridges where you can see the water coming down. Its a vary small hike where you can enjoy with your family and kids, there is also a play ground, i think it s been recently updated. There is a parking lot which is free i think its the only free parking left in that area, you just cross the street and you are at the starting of the trail. i totally recommended this Hike!!

TK Y.

Yelp
This is one of the more popular hiking spots. The trail bit wide though. You sometime run into bull snakes and maybe a rattler. I saw them. I prefer the more narrow less crowded trails but this place is close and convenient to get to.

Deb C.

Yelp
Beautiful, lush, shady path for a walk by yourself or with your four-legged friend. It feels like a rainforest. The lower trail is an easy walk for very young kids who will find this a magical place to explore and will enjoy spotting fish, turtles, and other creatures in the stream. There are several little waterfalls and bridges. Those looking for a more strenuous hike can continue up to the observatory, but the lower trail is just a great place to stroll, relax, and chat with the locals. There are benches scattered throughout if you want to stop and take in the scenery. Park on the street on Fern Dell Drive, close to Black Oak Drive, right near the entrance.

Meta P.

Yelp
This was the perfect hike with 2 rest areas on the way up for the less in shape people like myself lol. Very nice view, but I don't know why the observatory and gift shops were closed when I went up there. Either way it was great morning exercise.

Jane L.

Yelp
everyone is friendly there. lots of great dogs. lenient leash rules it seems. lots and lots of shade. lots of seatings. cute lil trail cafe. parking is usually easy. nice trials. bbq available. bridges are fun.
