"This small restaurant, almost hidden among the quiet side streets of Sliema, has become a reliable spot for fine dining on the island of Malta, and it continues to be so after the recent change of chef, which took place at the end of 2024, when Hiram Cassar was promoted from sous chef to head chef. The menu is limited but well-structured, with dishes based on creative recipes often developed from a small number of ingredients, seeking balance and elegance: the raw red snapper on a bed of chopped olives and sea vegetables is excellent, topped with grapes and almonds and then completed at the table with a delightful almond milk sauce. The efficient service also includes managing an excellent wine list with over 700 labels and many tasting options available by the glass, including some top wines." - Michelin Inspector

Exceptional dining experience! We had the tasting menu and every dish was wonderful. My favourite dish was the sashimi of local tuna. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten anything so delicious. It was a piece of heaven. The wine pairing recommendations were fantastic and elevated the dining experience. Staff were so lovely, and attentive, but gave enough space for us to enjoy our dinner. Head chef Hiram also came around to say hello and explained a few of the dishes- was lovely to meet him. Will definitely return!

We stumbled across Fernandõ without a reservation, and they invited us in. It was great! We chose the a la carte three courses for €85 each and couldn’t have been happier. Each course was simple enough, however the flavours of each were quite remarkable. A great meal!

A true gastronomic experience ❤️ When you go to a Michelin restaurant, you are buying a ticket to a show - a gastro-theatre - and at Fernandõ Gastrotheque, the performance was flawless from start to finish. I chose the 7-course tasting menu with wine pairing and every moment was a delight. The evening began with an apéritif: a Blanc de Blancs Champagne from the boutique house Abele 1757 - fresh, elegant and a perfect opening note. One of the highlights was the ravioli with pomegranate seeds - a surprising and beautiful combination of textures and flavors. The chef, half-Japanese and half-Maltese, brings an exquisite lightness and precision to each dish, blending subtle Eastern influences with Mediterranean soul. A special mention to the sommelier - bravo! The pairings were thoughtful and surprising. I rarely enjoy orange wine, but the 2021 Domaine de l’Estagnère Vin Orange by Gérard Bertrand was a revelation. Thanks to the sommelier’s choice, I truly appreciated it. Chef - bravo! This was not just dinner, it was a story told in flavor.

Truly a wonderful dining experience from start to finish. We chose a variety of items from the set menu and were delighted with every course. Each dish was executed with precision and perfection. A true highlight was the chutneys in the additional cheese course. Hard to choose a favourite dish out of everything we tried, and the unusual pairings of sesame and strawberry was truly delightful in the dessert. We also had the pleasure of chatting with the sommelier who provided us fabulous recommendations for wine based on our asked and we had a glass of the Gewürztraminer Grand Cru Kirchberg with our first course and shared a bottle of Crios Torrontes with the rest of the meal.

Fernando Gastrotheque was one of the highlights of my recent trip to Malta. Tucked away from busy streets and tourist attractions, this little but cozy restaurant offered me outstanding dishes, really good service and an exciting wine list. Each dish was well-balanced and prepared with an attention to detail. Subtle Asian influences throughout (I later discovered that the Chef is half-Japanese). Sommelier’s recommendations were spot on - I discovered a British sparkling wine prepared exactly according to the Champagne methodology, as well as an outstanding wine by Markus Divinus (a local wine producer). It was quite pleasant that the chef came out to greet me, and we engaged in a brief conversation. All in all - a truly wonderful experience.

We enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. It was very convenient to be able to book on the same day and to have the option to order à la carte with three dishes.

Cozy, intimate and elegant place. Service was attentive without being intrusive and relaxed. We went for the 3-course set menu and was great, they know how to elevate fish whilst keeping its freshness. The desserts were also a good surprise, as they weren’t overwhelmingly sweet. The sommelier was brilliant, and they had a million bottles by the glass. They created a wine pairing with great choices. We had good fun, and accessible for a 1-star restaurant
