How Farmer’s Fridge Used Technology to Democratize Salads | Eater Chicago

"Operated by a third-generation turkey farmer in Cannon Falls, Minnesota, this independent poultry farm raises birds outdoors without antibiotics and supplies turkey breast used in a popular turkey, apple, and white cheddar wrap. Reliable orders from the vending-machine operator have provided steady demand that creates economic stability for the farm and supports related local businesses, representing a partnership model that helps keep more food dollars in the community rather than flowing to distant corporate headquarters." - Naomi Waxman

Google
Cute little market. We aren’t from the area but we had the chance to come visit the Ferndale Market and we even got a little tour where all the Turkeys are. My kids had a great time! We are looking forward to visiting again soon.

Google
Ferndale turkey is awesome. I know that because I used one of their birds for Thanksgiving last year, and I've had their meat a few times in prepared wraps from Simple Abundance in Red Wing. This was my first time popping into their actual market, though. The space is open and welcoming, with lots of merchandise out and yet it is easy to get around. They have all kinds of food items, room temperature and in coolers, with a great emphasis on Minnesota makers. I was particularly interested in their cheese and bought three blocks along with some jams from small makers in state. Check-out was breezy and friendly.

Just Bought my Thanksgiving Turkey!! Organic / Free Range Raised right here in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. It was the best Choice I've made all year.

Love to support this local company. Always friendly and always fresh. Picked up our turkey, gravy and pie for Thanksgiving. They had quite the arrangement to get us through quickly, organized and safely the week of Thanksgiving. Turkey as fantastic as ever - along with the pie that was a bit tart. But the gravy was strange and nobody liked it.

Google
Always worth the drive from the cities to pick up a fresh free range turkey and gems from the market before Thanksgiving. Wonderful staff, amazing prices, love the new bulk section. Getting some chocolate covered peanuts, truffles, beef sticks, cheese curds, and fancy sodas for the drive home is a great tradition I encourage everyone to adopt.

Google
I make the trip down to Cannon Falls every few months to stock up on meat. I truly appreciate having a sustainable, humane turkey option in Minnesota. Plus, the staff is always so friendly and it's fun to see what other local products the store stocks. I will never stop recommending Ferndale Market to my friends and family! Thanks for caring so much about what you do.

The smoked turkey legs are fabulous. The breakfast sausage le dry and doesn’t have much flavor. Delivery was excellent : the packing was top notch.

Google
Very high quality turkeys for thanksgiving. I get one yearly. The shop is also good, I like to swing in there when I'm in Cannon and pick up some various turkey products. Their smoked breast is really good, as are their meat sticks. Plus, they sell Brick Oven Bakery bread from Northfield - always a treat.

Yelp
Alright. This place gets a lot of love as you can see by the other reviews. I'm not the biggest turkey fan, but I've picked up turkey's from this place 2X for Thanksgiving and the turkey fans in the fam all give it a thumbs up. I usually change up my seasonings on how I prepare it but everyone is happy. Honestly, this review is for the little store at Ferndale. It has all sorts of things in there that are unique and you won't see available at the regular places. The other thing is that the prices are decent and the quality is good. From cheeses, snacks to other meats and more. But what I'm writing about are the Chef Martin Käsekrainer Brats that they carry. A tasting was happening and I was blown away so I bought myself a package and just had them last night. Think cheese brats but made with an Austrian knowledge and swiss cheese vs cheddar. Wow! So good. So there it is. If you see Chef Martin brand brats, you should definitely try them. #chefmartinsausage #eatbettersausage

Yelp
When we were at a BBQ restaurant in Chicago we happened to notice that the turkey at this restaurant came from Ferndale Market in MN. Really? We told ourselves we needed to check this place out. When we returned home we made our way to Ferndale Market and we are big fans now. Yes they have plenty of turkey items but there is so much more. There are other local meats and cheeses, even local breads and bagels and some vegetables and pasta too. There is a refrigerated and frozen section. We have enjoyed the ground turkey, breakfast turkey sausage and our favorite is the turkey burgers. We're looking forward to Thanksgiving this year as we plan to get our turkey from Ferndale Market. They also have smoked turkey so we will probably get that too. There is a reason that BBQ restaurant sourced their turkey from Ferndale Market, and that's because they have a great product.

Yelp
Excellent turkey. We had their boneless turkey breast and the person who rang up my order said she cooks them in a Dutch oven. So that is how I cooked it and everything was perfect. So moist and flavorful and easy to cut. They have a lot of other food items. Chocolate usually calls my name and the pastas are excellent. You can purchase dairy and frozen items too. They have a big event the weekend before Thanksgiving every year and a customer celebration too.

Yelp
Today I returned and bought some turkey sticks, turkey brats and was going to buy turkey wings. The package had a label saying $6.76 but cashier weighed it and it scanned at $7.00. It is also frozen so weighs more. I pointed this out that it says $6.76 on the label and I want it at the price it's labeled. She proceeds to tell me this is an old label and won't budge on the 24 cent difference. I then said I didn't want it. So they lost a $7.00 sale over not honoring a marked price of $6.76. I ruminated in my car driving home about this. This upset me enough that I don't think I'll return. Obviously, they don't give a rats ass over keeping customers.

Yelp
I'm so glad there is a demand for a market like this. I discovered the turkey pepperjack sticks at Kowalski's on Grand. They were so good I had to go there directly. It's a great day trip to Cannon Falls that actually only lasts a few hours including breakfast at Nick's Linda H. and I had a great time. I was in the store a little longer and it's the longest I'll ever comb over a store. Turkey is king here. I got sticks including a cranberry one, bites, weiners, and a rachel brat. The next category is groceries. Frozen beef and lentil sambusas, crackers, mustard, spaghetti sauce, ravioli, and a delicious Wee Willy's red french dressing, chili was average. Most every thing is homemade and I got sauerkraut for the weiners. Some dairy and bakery included 2 of the best brownies I ever had and a good wild rice craisin bread. Dairy was red barn cupola, butter and a yoghurt. $150. well spent. I'll go back when I run out. I'm not the beef stick snacking kind but this turkey has converted me.

Yelp
This is still the ONLY place to buy turkeys. With Covid, they have curbside pickup, which runs pretty smoothly. You're greeted where you give your name. They have you park in a numbered spot, and a staff person brings out your items. If you have a fresh turkey in your order, you drive over to the turkey guy, who puts your bird in the car, you end where you pay and then exit. All of these steps are quick and easy, as I would expect from Ferndale Market. They love their customers and do their best to ensure that everyone is happy. I'm honestly glad that they've been doing ok during the pandemic. I'm not sure what I'd do if I lost my turkey source. The Peterson family and their employees (probably family) are warm, friendly, and take their work seriously. It shows in everything, including the feel of the store. It will be nice to be able to go back inside once this nightmare is over. In the meantime, my family and I are looking forward to having a fantastic turkey on Thursday.

Yelp
Disclosure I am giving a five star review to the Ferndale Market Turkey product and I have not been to the actual market but purchase frequently at my local high quality grocer. The tukey is called Ferndale Market brand. I have served one of the fresh turkeys this past thanksgiving and it was so moist and delcious and even my animals (two cats and a dog) were begging more than usual for the leftovers everytime I went to make a sandwich and they smelled it. I have been purchasing the ground turkey chubs and making turkey chili and turkey burgers with it many many times and always am how pleased with the quality of this meat. It does not turn my stomach to work or cook with it like some meat products because you can tell it is of high quality and not full of questionable pieces of fat, bone, skin...just some nice pink fresh turkey meat. All local and non-hormone chemical injected . I was checking out the website also and was even happier when reading what great care and handling is used for these turkeys. I do eat meat but am an animal lover and it makes me feel better that my food was respected and cared for while alive. The market is about a half hour from me and I am eager to actually take a little shopping trip there and find some more fabulous local food items.

Yelp
If you find yourself taking a road trip down Highway 52 towards the southern part of Minnesota, pack a cooler. On your way back to the Twin Cities, this is worth a very short detour in your plans. A small market run on a free range turkey farm, they offer locally sourced foods. You'll find meats, cheeses, honey, jams and other natural and organic products. The staff is friendly and more than willing to tell you everything they know about the other farmers and food producers they buy from. I'm told the turkey's have hatched, come mid-June I'll be back to see them roaming and lovingly cared for by this second and third generation farm family.

Yelp
I ordered a turkey last year for Thanksgiving and it was so good, I just ordered one for this year. Moist, delicious and aromatic are the words we would use to describe their turkey. Consider me hooked.
