Ferro's

I had not been here in a few years. Last I remember the grilled ribeye sandwich was phenomenal. I passed the place by and remembered hoped to repeat the last memorable meal. Oh well, so much for that hope. I order grilled chicken with cheese (extra cost) mayo grilled onions lettuce tomato, fries cooked soft, and a drink. All I enjoyed was the drink. I get home…12 minutes later, the fries are old cold and not soft, there’s no mayo or cheese, minimal grill onions and the chicken breast was dry. Perhaps you’d do better cooking your own food in the newly remodeled kitchen. Also, where your heels if you’re under 5’6” because the hole to place the order is so high, if you don’t heels, you’ll be on you tip toes for the top hole or you cheek on the counter if you choose the bottom. I called to inform them of this mess. The cashier repeated my order exactly as I told you and then explained that THE CHEESES ANS MAYO would have been the sandwiches saving grace. She apologized but that does nothing for the time I had to eat and finish my day. Very disappointing.

I got the Italian beef, fries, and some Italian ice. The ice tasted delicious and was pretty fairly priced. They have a lot of flavors that I'm interested to try. The fries were good. The Italian beef was also pretty good. Not amazing, but good enough that I might come back. I felt that the portions were pretty large for the price, and everything was a decent value. My only complaint is that I had to wait a bit for the beef, and they don't seem to have online ordering, so I couldn't order ahead. I'll see if I can call it in next time.

I really enjoyed the mango strawberry Italian Ice, this is my second go personally but I have gotten this Italian Ice before as a child. They keep a fairly clean dining area, simple but good for the summer time. I'd say try the rest of the menu before going off of my food rating, since it's mainly for the Ice cream.

I called in my order and asked for a large rib tip and an order of Hot links. When my daughter picked up the order she said it’s only one container they must put mines in yours. Instead of her giving me what I asked for she decided to give me a tip and hot link combo which only came with 1 link when I asked for an order of links if they didn’t sell it separately she should have said that but instead she gave me what she wanted not what I ordered and to top it off the rib tip was hard like they been sitting for a long time in dry. I was disappointed because they smoke the rib tips and that’s why I come all the way down there for them. Poor service and bad food. My first time experiencing this from there.

Ferro’s is amazing. I appreciate the staffs and managers kindness to me even though I have autism and their food is amazing and really good. Owner Tom is very nice. The restaurant is in good condition. Awesome Italian beef and Italian ice. Must come back. 10/10.

we stopped by for some Italian ice, they have a decent lot consider its in Chicago and a few table outdoor patio $4.95 for 10oz, $5.95 for 16oz, $7.95 for 32oz, $22 for half gallon and $45 for a gallon.  Price are not bad but I would say just get the 10oz or the 16oz, 32oz is way too big lol.  I got the 32oz, REGRET lol  my wife got the 16oz couldn’t finish lol, two kids shared 16oz finished in 15min LOL Services was good The ice tasted great, not the best but pretty delicious and fairly priced right.  The have a lot of flavors:  Choice of lemon, strawberry, watermelon, pineapple, mango, pina colada, cucumber lime

The Italian ice here was my favorite part of visiting Chicago! Their strawberry, mango, and watermelon paired perfectly with the pina colada or cucumber lime. All flavors have tons of real fresh fruit in them (including cucumber!) One of the waitresses was SO nice, insisting we try watermelon with the cucumber lime instead of pina colada with cucumber lime, and she was SO right! (the cucumber/lime & pina colada are both too plain/less sweet by themselves). I wish we lived closer...but you have inspired us to try making this at home. MUST try the Italian ice here! The 32 oz was only $8 & was enough to share among 2 or 3 people.

Between the cashier that looks like she’s under the influence and the slowest cook in the world Im good on them. Italian ice always good but is it worth the wait.

I've only had their Italian ice here but it is delicious! Very refreshing, light, soft, and flavorful. I highly recommend stopping by here for one. They do serve food here as well which I've heard decent things about. The place itself has an outside patio for Chicago summer days and an inside that isn't that big. It's a classic building overall. Our cashier was okay.

Back again Excellent combo with sweet & hot If you haven't tried Ferros been you are missing out if one of the top 5 combos in the city !!

Feeling sick today. I came in and ordered the homemade chicken noodles soup. It's perfect. I feel better now.

Ok so was driving to Michigan and saw this beef sign. Seen it for years and finally decided to give it a try. Sorry no pictures of food because little did I know you cannot eat in the place. There are no seats and signs alll over that says must eat on patio. If looking for an Italian beef to go then maybe give this place a try, however in Bridgeport there are many options just blocks away that allow inside seating. The restaurant staff is very friendly and courteous however it looks like "COVId" safe bulletproof glass so with the face masks on and the glass, you can hardly hear them. Beef was ok, It wasn't bad, it just wasn't a "Wow" they have really good beef joint feeling. Sorry no pictures of the food because it was wrapped tightly so the juices didn't leak all over the car .

I work not too far from here, and have walked here a few times now, both pre and post-COVID. This place is good. Not great, but good. This is Chicago dive food, and like a lot of other places with a wide variety of different cuisines. But their BBQ is pretty solid; not the best in the city or even in the area, but pretty good. Their Mexican is about standard for the area. Their subs and dogs and burgers are pretty good. They do make a good Italian ice. The price is right, they are pretty fast, and the food is generally good. You could do way worse than Ferro's.

I've been here a couple of times already just never reviews it for some reason. I've haven't tried their food here yet, but exclusively come here for their Italian ice. It used to be cash only, but now take credit cards. I'm not exactly sure If that will be a permanent change, or I'd they will go back to cash only once this bull crap is all over. They only had two flavors when I went, and to be honest that's all I need. Strawberry and lemonade. The Italian ice here is a very delicious, not too sweet and made with real fruit. I used to think this place was pricier than others, but you actually get a lot for the price that you pay so it is as expensive as I thought. If you haven't tried their Italian ice, do so soon because you're definitely missing out!

This use to be one of my favorite places to go but no more by far this is the worst food I ever paid for had a taste for pancakes got hot water cornbread ask me me when you come back I promise you I'm never coming back

I have passed by Ferro's on the Ryan for many years, was looking for a place for lunch, and after reading the good reviews, decided to stop today. I ordered the 2 hot dog special and dined at the counter. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The hot dogs were barely warm, and the fries were a mix of warm and cold. I probably should have complained, but just ate my lunch and left. I decided to write this review because I'm certain the fault lies with the employees not caring and that the Owner's would share my disappointment.

Love Ferro's! Their Italian ice is some of the best in Chicago! I love the pineapple and watermelon mix - so good on a warm summers day!

Service here is friendly enough but kind of a little sour. Food is always really good but not as good as Al's. I almost always have Italian sausage but today I'm having a brisket sandwich. The lady asked if I wanted everything, and everything meant Chipotle mayo and cabbage... Not exactly normal for the brisket sandwich. I asked for extra barbecue sauce instead of Chipotle mayo and she thought I was crazy. The brisket meat is not very tender and it is very fatty. French fries are always super . Prices are okay. You can access this place right off the highway and get right back onto the highway, or on your way to the White Sox game. Parking is always excellent. The weird thing is that the Italian Ice for dessert is at a totally different sales window and not connected but it's the same business I think.

Taste amazing! Prices are good for the Italian ice but other food items are a bit pricey.

Ferro's is an Italian ice gem of the South Side. I didn't want to write this review in fear of letting the secret out, but it's time to share the love. This is my summer go-to spot to beat the heat and get myself that icy, sweet treat. It's on the corner of W 31st St. and S. Wentworth Ave off the highway. There's parking (handful of spots), and you just order outside by the window. Prices are fair, and serving sizes are generous. My favorite flavors are piña colada, mixed berry, and mango. My wife likes the chocolate. There are so many flavors to choose from, and you can get half and half in your order. If you're undecided, ask for a sample!

Italian ice is what I'm mainly here for. Living in the north side, I pick up a large to go for my personal at home enjoyment. Refreshing, smooth (almost creamy), Ferro's italian ice has been the perfect treat for the hot summer days. Hard to pick a favorite, but thus far, mixed berry and watermelon are my current flavors. Chunks of fruit are mixed in the ice, but the super smooth and sweet (not sugary) consistency is what they manage to do really well. Easy to get to right off the expressway with a parking lot makes this a great stopover whenever I'm in the area.

For the pride of south side, I rendered Ferro's a five (5)-star rating on their Italian ice lemonade. Although I'm a north-sider, I'm quite itinerant. It's not too difficult to spot Ferro's if you're stuck on that infamous I-90/I-94 (Kennedy/Dan Ryan) junction. Well, take a breather and spend some quality time at Ferro's, on the northwest corner of 31st. and Wentworth. Having Italian ice during summer time has become a routine for me whenever I have days off from work. Here are price comparisons, as of 08/24/2015, from the joints I've visited in the city and in the immediate suburb: 1) Ferro's small cup: $3.50 (THAT CUP IS BEYOND FULL) 2) Mario's medium cup: $2.75 (size compatible to Ferro's small cup) 3) Gina's medium cup: $3.00 (my third favorite in Chicagoland) All three (3) places accept cash only. I've tried Annette's in Lincoln Park and Miko's in Logan Square. However, for the value/portion ratio, Ferro's does stand out in the crowd. I saw some patrons ordered the large cup ($6.50) and shared it. Rosa J. and Daddy J. went with a small cup of cantaloupe and a small cup of pineapple. They were delicious with pieces of real fruit in them! I have to admit that Ferro's has several advantages over other competitors: free parking and a spacious patio for the season. They also serve fast food and have heard positive reviews on that category. Driving obviously would be a convenient choice. Nevertheless, the CTA Sox-35th Red Line Station is approximately four (4) blocks south. When #24 (Wentworth) bus is running, it would be an alternative as well if you love CTA buses as much as I do.

Tried their italian shaved ice - you get to pick 2 flavors and we got a size small ($3.50). The watermelon flavor was very sweet/too sugary, and the cantaloupe was a bit too sweet too. One thing they do that's a bit different from other italian ice places is layering each flavor, which I appreciated! But overall, it was too sweet and too icy. I would prefer Freddie's over this place :(

This is in regards to the Italian ice. You get so much for such a reasonable price. It's so smooth. It's literally become my ice cream alternative this summer. I've lived down the street from this place for years and I've been missing out. I definitely make up for lost time. I've been coming so often this summer. My favorite flavors are strawberry and mango

Solid burger/hot dog joint right off the Dan Ryan near Sox Park. Great food and fast service. Have yet to try their Italian Ice but heard great things!

This place serves the typical chicago fast food favorites - beefs, hot dogs, polishes. pizza puffs, etc. In addition, there's a decent selection of bbq. Can't really say anything is amazing but it is what it is when you need a fixing.

Ok, I remember eating here in the late 80's. Was in town with my wife and kids, we were hungry, I wanted Chicago food, and Ferro's was nearby. I am reviewing the hot dogs, polish sausage, pizza puff, beef sandwich, and the fries. The hot dogs per my son kicked ass. I didn't even really get a good look at them, but they had the right stuff going with them, and my boy is like me. If he says they are good, they are good! The polish? Uh... I really couldn't tell if it was a polish or a hot dog. They get them from Vienna so they might sell thin ones. I've never seen one until now?... everywhere else had kielbasa sized polish. So while it tasted good, my other son did not know if it was a hot dog, or polish so... good but not good. The pizza puff? You can't really mess those up unless you burn them. This was a good one. The fries? Nothing special, but don't take that as a dis. A good fry kind of like Wendy's but a little bigger. Good fries. The beef? The whole reason for my three stars. Asked for my sandwich dipped. The only wet or juicy was my bun. The beef was dry as dirt with about the same flavor. The jus? Had no real flavor to it. Like it was crazy watered down. The bun was on point, so I will give them that. But this beef sandwich sullied me on Ferro's. Dry and tasteless. I wouldn't let that be the beef sandwich that defined my trip back. Went to Nicky's and Portillo's and had killer beef sandwiches at both places. So they do have good food there. I hope your experience differs. I probably would come back for the BBQ and see what they got. But you guys let me down.

Definitely a 5 star place. I have been coming to this location several times since I was hired as an assistant coach at Illinois Tech this past January 2016. Food is great, inexpensive, and atmosphere is good. Cliental is definitely blue collared and hard working people come in here all the time. My father came here with 5 dollars in his pocket not speaking a word of from Communist Poland and to this day..... 45 years later, still works in the same factory which was his first job so I understand and love blue collared which is why I love this place. Food is good. I had the gyro burger today. It was good. The Polish is good as well. However their Italian Beef is amazing and better then most place. I am sure this place gets packed during White Sox games (not sure about now though since they are struggling with attendance). If you live on the south side or in the area to eat please visit this place. Lots of choice....plus great breakfast as well!!!!!

I got the American sub and my buddy got a burger with a mixed berry Italian ice. Didn't expect the medium Italian ice to be so large - we were able to share! Would love to return here!

You know I almost went outta state because I couldn't find the right Buffalo Chicken sandwich. I stopped by Ferro's during my lunch and I couldn't be happier. I no longer have the need to travel. This buffalo chicken was delicious!!! The buffalo sauce was just right and service was quick. This restaurant offers free parking, patio seating, and an authentic south side environment. I'm by no means a photographer so trust me when I say he Food was better then it looked.

Finally stopped by for their Italian beef which they seem to feature and I'm sad to report, I've had a much better sandwich elsewhere. The beef was cut too thick and it was flavorless. The peppers saved the sandwich. The pina colada Italian ice was good but for $4.50 for a small portion seemed overpriced for what it was. Not impressed.

Food is average at best, but the Italian ice is the reason to go. Made on site with seasonal fresh fruit. I prefer their smooth consistency & natural fruit flavors far above Taylor St.

I love this place, but I really wish businesses were honest about the closing.. This place truly closes at 630, the doors are locked so just get there 6pm.

I came here for a burger and a bowl of chill and an order of cheese fries, I know a lot of food. Everything was great. The place was not packed, the parking lot was empty. The food was great, I will definitely be back.

The food is always good! Service is Great! I love their fresh Italian ice. They have a good variety of food on the menu. Th3y serve breakfast food from 7-11. They are closed on Sundays.

I've been a fan since 2014. I really love their Italian ice - pineapple and watermelon is my favorite combination. Serving sizes are huge.

I feel the customer service is very poor and the hours are unclear. I called to place an order at 620 and was informed they close at 7 but will no longer be taking orders. This is the second time I have called before 'closing' and have been refused to be serviced.

This place has good reviews and I was in the area and needed something quick so I stopped in. Cash only which is okay but I had to go across street to the ATM. Guy at the front wasn't the smartest. I got the gyro meal and when I got it I opened it up to see if they added the zaziki. I then realized that they gave me 5 small thin slices of meat. I also should point out I got no pita. I asked if this is the amount they give and he said yes. I walked out. They didn't even include onions or tomatoes or sauce. After leaving the city I then realized I was not given my change of 10 dollars. I realize that is my fault for not saying anything but they got a rush when I arrived and the guy was busy answering the phone. Smh. Food was good too but this was simply too many problems.

Great food, great prices. We got the Italian beef, fully dipped and a Italian sausage with sweet peppers. They also have a wide variety on their menu including breakfast. They have their own parking lot, however it is small. They are also known for their Italian iced which looked amazing. Make sure to bring cash!

4 stars only for the reason that they take cash, but other than that this place has great burgers and I always enjoy this place. Environment is great ! Also right of the highway for a quick stop if you're passing by Chicago

Where to start?? -Lady at front taking orders rude to others and practically falling asleep while standing. - No Ice for the soda machine, soda is warm as hell on one of the hottest days of year! - Steak tacos- CRAP, unless you like chewing on balls of fat like a gum ball!! -Fries---decent but with everything else sucking... what does it matter? The only good thing here was that there were 2 female military in uniform and they comped the meal for them no charge. But then, I can't even give a star for that because I thing they literally took 3 bites of their order and threw it out!! You be the judge..... thumbs up or thumbs down? For me...... never coming back to this dump, could have gotten better food across the street at Shell Gas Station. Sorry Ferro's!!!

I have been stopping at this place for the best hot dog special around town. You get 2 hot dogs with some of everything on it. I love the slice pickle and hot sport pepper's. You also get a super size order of fresh and hot French fries And a large drink.. This place has a wide menu for what ever you may have a taste.

I've never had the italian ice, so I can't say anything about that. However, overall I think their food is just average. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there - actually, I just wouldn't really go there at all if it I didn't work a few blocks away. My co-workers call it the "poor man's special", which is a true statement... and that's the reason why it sometimes ends up becoming lunch! Nothing special, but the food isn't something I'd make a point of avoiding, either. I will, however, be exploring the fresh fruit italian ice once they start selling it again in Spring!

Freaken LOVE this place. So glad during winter they still have a smaller selection of Italian Ice. The quality and value can't be beat. Love their watermelon, strawberry, cantaloupe & lemon. I tried the mango and reminded me of frozen sashimi.

I've only had their italian ice so that's as far as my review covers but ever since I was a little girl, this was the place to go on hot summer days. They have over 5 flavors with a mix of fruity and sweet. Some of their fruity flavors even have small chunks of fruit in them (i.e. cantaloupe). You can even ask for them to mix 2 flavors together. They only sell their italian ice at an outside window though but there's a nice umbrella'd patio to eat it at. There's a good deal of parking spots but it gets tight during their lunch hour rush - about 12-1:30.

The old lady who works the Italian ice stand is very rude and has the hospitality skills of an olive seed. It was my first time visiting the restaurant and ice stand and I asked her if you could order and ice from inside the restaurant. She addressed me in a scolding tone and nastily made me aware that they are separate. Getting upset at a customer for asking a question that should not be offensive since they share a kitchen space in unacceptable. Hence I will never go back to either business. The ice was not bad, however I will not patronize a business where workers disrespect customers.

My boyfriend and I are visiting from out of town and wanted to try a local spot for breakfast. This is the best food we've had our whole trip! He ordered steak and eggs and I had the French toast breakfast. The only negative was he ordered his steak rare and it was cooked closer to medium (but he still ate the whole steak :)) Everything else was delicious and the prices are very affordable. We want to come back to try the lunch and dinner menu.

This place is open early for some tasty breakfast sandwiches. My go to is the sausage, pepper and eggs on French. For lunch I typically grab a #4 chicken fillet or an Italian beef. They also have a pretty wide variety of house made BBQ called "city que".

Nothing flashy about this place, and sometimes the hours are unpredictable, however they're a solid neighborhood joint and everything they serve up is as it should be, and you can't go wrong with a beef or meatball sandwich from here. What I find that seals the deal is that you can get some really very tasty Italian Ice in December. Velvety, sweet and tart, just perfect. Most places have it only seasonally, which is a bummer. This is where you can satisfy that craving. Not only can you get a serving, you can get it by the gallon to take home. Can't ask for anything more!

The absolute BEST Italian ice I have ever had, huge chunks of fresh fruit in the ice. Only down side is they dont serve it until after May 1st (I took 1 star away for this fact). On the food, I have tried a breaded steak sandwich and an egg and sausage sandwich with mozzerela and I was very happy with both. This is not a sandwich for the healthy eaters or ones on portion control. It was huge and dripping with flavor. Get plenty of napkins.

Everything was delicious! Reasonably priced, hearty portions and SCRUMPTIOUS! I would come here for breakfast and lunch / dinner. A+

Same quality food as Yolk, but way cheaper, would come here more often. They have Italian ice and a parking lot!

YUM!!! Seriously can't stop raving about this place. I have been here quite a few times and the people are very friendly. I haven't tried their food yet as I only come here for the Italian ice, but I've tried just about every flavor and my faves are watermelon and strawberry, even though they're all delicious. Their prices aren't bad either and since I recently moved it the area it's tempting to stop by everyday. The only reason I dont come here everyday and the reason for my 4 of 5 stars is that this place accepts cash only and although their hours are posted on yelp I came here a couple times and they were closed...even though the yelp hours said they were open. They didn't have any hours posted on the window either. This can be a bit confusing for customers. Aside from those two nuances I highly recommend this place. I will most definitely keep returning!

This is long, but necessary. I'm very disappointed. I've been coming here since I was a teen. Me and my family and I'm almost 50. The way I was treated today was terrible. They were disrespectful and because I made an ordering mistake ( which I caught and brought to their attention) they acted as if the sky had fallen. The older guy was holding up the sandwich!"its already made! It's already made!" It was 5 of them looking so perplexed as how to resolve removing sausage off of sandwich. I thought an Italian beef combo, was a beef sandwich, a fry and drink. I didnt know their beef combo meant it had a sausage on it. Simple right? Not to them. I apologized 4 my error and thanked the 2 girls at the register for trying to help, they both ignored me twice. The cooks were all looking like they just could NOT recover from this and kept talking about it. Trying to make me feel stupid. It was a mistake. As a business owner myself, I would NEVER treat a faithful customer like that. Then you add icing, the older guy still talking about his wasted sandwich. " give her a menu,so next time she can read!" R u phucking serious? Ferro's u never know, who you're treating in a bad way. So disgusted.

2 things I look for when visiting a establishment... 1, good service and 2, it taste good. If I could give a 2.5 stars on this review I would for tasting good as it scored 10/10. I have to give a ZERO for service. The lady working the Italian Ice window was rude and probably shouldn't work in food service if she can't carry a conversation with the customer. If you're just going to be crabby- go do something else so people don't have to see it.

I just had the worst Italian beef sandwich , it tasted old dry , the meat had green color , Iam feeling sick in my stomach. I wouldn't recommend this place
