"“While it might be a few minutes off the beaten path, their beer is top-notch,” says Jonathan Baker, co-founder of Monday Night Brewing. Baker isn’t just a fan of Ferus’ lagers and sours. He also recommends the food here: “Get those chicken tenders.”" - Kris Martins

EXTREMELY RECOMMEND this brewery! Their drinks were delicious and their food was amazing. Their prices are acceptable for the quality of their beer and food.

My family absolutely loves going to Ferus. The food, atmosphere and concerts they have are awesome! We always look forward to coming to great events.

The Dirty Filthy Martini by Laura is ultimate girl dinner. Everything I love to stand at my fridge and snack on - the only way this could be any better is if you add cheese and pepperoni 😉 Paired this bad boy with Charred Onion Dip with Veggies and my whole day became complete.

Absolutely love this place! My fiance and I drive down for the concerts from Gadsden. The food is amazing, service is awesome, and the music is always great. Ferus is such a fun, safe place to enjoy a stress free evening. I'm picky about beer, but I love their choices. The dark lager is my favorite. They have a great wine menu too which is my typical drink of choice. I wish other restaurants/breweries would offer quality wines for wine drinkers. I will go to Ferus over and over because they pay attention to every detail down to the merchandise. Love my long sleeved T-shirt too that I bought when it was a bit cooler than I expected. They have you covered! Literally!

Google
ferus is amazing. It is so much more than a brewery. ferus is the center of the Trussville Alabama Entertainment District. Offering exciting and relaxing events such as Donna Renee’s Art Experience (Donna offers monthly parties). GOOGLE ferus, and click .. Events .. for more options to unwind and party!

Decided to try something different. I wanted to try a local beer and decided to come here. The food and beer did not disappoint. Check it out if you’re close by.

Google
We've been coming here for a few years now and it's our favorite place to get drinks and food. We even order the beer whenever we find it on tap at other places. The fallen series are always great and hoppy blonde is my go to beer.

I really could have gone to any restaurant in Birmingham. But…I chose Ferus for my birthday dinner. When first arriving, The waiter wanted to seat me and my family at a table in the front of the restaurant. So I ask for a Booth. She told me it will be 15 mins. Which that wasn’t accurate. It was two tables that needed to be clean. And she started to clean on one table but stop. Now it’s 30 minutes to wait time. After being seated. The wait for our food was really fast…our waitered told my daughter she can get her wings flavor half/half. Which that wasn’t accurate. So the cook ask my daughter to mix and toss her own wings in the sauce. Until I told him NO. You need to go correct the meal. And toss the wings himself. Which he did do. Now we are sitting here with no water nor drinks. We had to ask for that multiple times. I really felt rush. If the manger see this review. Email me please. The only good review was on my strawberry margarita!

Yelp
Easily the best place to grab a beer in Trussville by a mile. The space is massive, with plenty of outdoor seating and a cozy indoor area. Their beer selection is top-notch -- definitely in my top 3 for the Birmingham area. The food is decent, though nothing exceptional, and the service has been consistently fine. Overall, it's a great spot to relax and enjoy some fantastic brews!

Yelp
Shopping in Trussville and needed a snack so decided to head over to Ferus Artisan Ales. We got some appetizers to share and a couple of beers. We ate inside as it was a chilly day but outside with the big screen and plenty of space is something we're going to come back and try when the weather is warmer. Really good food and wonderful beer!! We will be back...with friends next time!!

Brittany B.

Yelp
My wife and I visited Ferus for dinner and drinks on a Sunday evening and will absolutely be back again. We were greeted and seated shortly after arriving. I ordered their Hoppy Blonde and my wife had a bourbon with Diet Coke. For a starter, we split the southwest eggrolls which were incredible. For entrees, I ordered their street tacos with fried chicken as the protein and she got the feral burger with double patties. We were both highly impressed with our meals. Jaden was our server and took great care of us. Prices were fair, service was fast and the restrooms were clean. Overall, 5 out of 5 stars.

Yelp
I was trying to support this business and went in to buy a giftcard for someone. They charged me a 3% fee. That will be the last time I buy a giftcard or visit here, other business don't charge this on giftcards. I understand the fee on dining, even if I don't agree with it, but a giftcard? Nah, seems petty.

Yelp
We had a great lunch here with friends over the weekend. We didn't have any trouble getting a table at 1:00. Lots of parking in this area so that wasn't a problem either. I had their cranberry cocktail which was delicious. I really liked it. For lunch I got the campfire burger. It was really good but was missing the fried jalapenos. It was not spicy at all so that was a little disappointing but still a great burger. The fries served with it were really good too. Service was really good as well. I would definitely eat here again and recommend it to anyone.

Candace K.

Yelp
Ordered lemon pepper wings,, maple bacon Brussels and Cobb salad. All were delicious.

Haley P.

Yelp
Picture this: it's Friday night. The place is hopping. Live band is playing so loud people are going deaf. People are drinking.... But not eating? Why do you say? Oh they CLOSED THE KITCHEN. Yep, closed the kitchen in the middle of 7pm hour. No food. Can't even order it! But don't worry, you get to find that out after standing in line for 15 minutes, finally get to the counter, and THEN they'll tell you you can't order food. It's great! You build an establishment of this size and can't produce food? The kitchen is "backed up". For 45+ minutes? I was actually here about a week ago on a Wednesday night and it took at least 45 minutes to receive a quesadilla and some chicken fingers. Obviously this place has a major kitchen issue. I don't recommend coming here hungry. Eat before you come, and MAYBE by the time you can even ORDER food you'll be hungry again!

Shirley A.

Yelp
Great service and food! Best sweet tea and pickle brined chicken! Yum! The pimento cheese and pepper jelly was delicious and skinny marg was top notch! Can't beat the atmosphere.

Michelle K.

Yelp
Loved the concept & menu. The IPA wasn't bad either however the barman joked about the contents of the seasonal cocktail rather than answer the question what was in it & he over sold the quality of the Pinot. And when it came to the food, apparently as a customer I was insulting the chef because I actually had the audacity to expect asparagus in an asparagus salad. Instead the chefs attempt to show me why I mistakenly thought there was no asparagus only insulted both of us. Left very disappointed with the customer experience.

jessica s.

Yelp
Couldn't figure out what part was artisan, the design maybe?,, the space is beautiful. The service in a nutshell was nothing more than just food bought to the table. Drinks where good, the hardest chicken wings I've every have gotten served outside, literally 2 min from burnt and cover in sauce , under cooked okra which lets me know the wings where re- dipped to reheat them ,,, tomato's where bland and super thick and unevenly cut, egg rolls where to generic to enjoy and the buffalo cauliflower was cool. The pork loin was very overcooked and grey and was abnormally under seasoned bland.. Great atmosphere.

Malia S.

Yelp
Suggest that people bring their own foods to Gateway entertainment district. Standing in line to order food or drinks is not east for handicapped or seniors. And sometimes the kitchen is closed after you've stood for 45 minutes to order. Ferus burger was served to us on Saturday night almost raw and my boyfriend did get sick. It's doubtful that we will order from Ferus again

Gabe P.

Yelp
On 1/7/23 - I came here around noon to catch some of the Kentucky vs Alabama basketball game. ROLL TIDE! This was fairly early so it wasn't too much going on inside at the bar. I opted for inside vs sitting outside , which has a huge screen. I prefer to just be kind of low key and in my own space MOST places I go. Weird?! Oh well.... Brittney , provided great service. She was very effective as she was working indoor as well as helping with the outdoor bar. Hardworking , for sure. She definitely took care of me! Great personality and super funny, like me! Haha. We had fun! Ferus has changed some since the last time I was here. It's become more of a sit down restaurant. I guess this works best for large groups and families. The outdoor area is definitely a prime spot in the warmer months. If you are wondering , I didn't have any food. I'm not a huge fan of their menu offering as much as I use to be. I will tell you that you can't go wrong with the smash burger / fries. Wonderful!! Glad I stopped by and I'm sure I'll return sooner than later.

Iseo Y.

Yelp
The ambiance is nice however not much menu to offer, and quite frankly, I did not enjoy the food!

Lauren N.

Yelp
Ferus was really good! We got in after church on Sunday and our waitress was really great. We had a variety of the hangover burrito, chicken and waffles, chicken tenders and the kids grilled cheese. Everything was really tasty! The burrito was sausage, eggs, and cheese, topped with beer cheese and tomatoes. It was sooooo good. I do wish I got the beer cheese on the side because it was pretty heavy. My toddlers grilled cheese and fries were really good!! You can snag a good drink, some merch and enjoy a nice outdoor spot to let the kids run around.

Susanna N.

Yelp
Friendly service, great cold beer, and always incredibly tasty food! I have been going to Ferus since they opened and I will always suggest them to everyone I know.

Kayla W.

Yelp
The breakfast burger was juicy and mouth savory with the sweet potato tots! Will definitely order again. They were out of the caramel sauce on Sunday but will definitely be back to get the full experience. The loaded hash bowl we good and It came with scramble with your choice of bacon or sausage potatoes and cheese with fried jalapeños. They have mimosa for $21 a carafe and you can pick from apple, cranberry, orange, grapefruit juice. Overall, the restaurant has a cool, trendy vibe and the breakfast burger is definitely worth trying. The tots were the standout dish, and I would go back just for those. However, the hash bowl fell a little short but still good. Their prices were reasonable and the service was friendly and efficient. I'd recommend stopping by for the tots and burger, especially if you're in the mood for a unique breakfast experience. The waitress Melin was perfect! She was fast with service and always checked on the table

Zachary M.

Yelp
Used to come here a fair amount. It's got a nice outdoor patio area with space for the kids to run around. Beer is typically pretty good. However, they have now apparently banned reusable water bottles when sitting outside, which seems ridiculous. Their "security" came by and told us they were not allowed, even though people all over the place had them. Why we were singled out, I don't know. But that kind of thing just does not fly with me. I don't want to waste a bunch of plastic cups for water as that's environmentally unfriendly and not practical for kids. Luckily, there is another brewery in the same complex with better beer.

Jacob M.

Yelp
Solid beer, good food, good environment. I enjoyed my time here, but not my first pick for brewery.

Laura G.

Yelp
They have the best chicken fingers and fry's! They are pickle brine chicken fingers and are amazing! They have good ranch also. Love sitting outside when it's warm

Linda L.

Yelp
Stayed with the in-laws over Christmas break and Hubby and I decided to run away for a day date to come check this place out. Love the area and building. Very clean, sleek, and modern. Parking was easy on a Tuesday afternoon, not sure how it would be during prime hours though...yikes!! I ordered the strawberry rhubarb sour which was amazingly delightful. Hubs got some dark stout and said he enjoyed it. For nibbles we had the maple glazed Brussels sprouts and the pimento cheese app. Everything was simple and tasted just like you'd think it would. Nothing crazy. Didn't like that none of their beers had descriptive notes in the phone menu, but the paper menus did, which was cool but we had to ask for one. Bartender was a little confused and moved very slow, especially for it not being so busy. But the beer I had was cold and delicious. Would def go back to try others.

N J.

Yelp
Overpriced beer. go only for ambience. Water cooler is nice touch, especially if you are staying and brought kids. Good staff and okay food.

Meagan A.

Yelp
We finally got a chance to come by and give this place a try for brunch. I loved the style of the brewery. Definitely different from what I have seen around town. Our server was friendly and helpful, and we were sat quickly once we arrived. Also, they made sure we had drink refills in a timely manner. I forgot to take a picture, but we were also convinced into ordering the lemon beignets, which I loved! It made up for the fact that I wasn't too thrilled with my meal. My husband loved his meal. He ordered The Lion, which is fries layered with gravy, bacon, and a fried egg. He said he would definitely come back and have it again. I had the chicken and waffles and it was not my favorite. I typically love chicken and waffles, but this waffle was crunchy and had a weird flavor. The chicken was good, but wasn't great either. I'd like to give something else a try. Maybe it just wasn't the meal for me.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Great food! Love the cheese curds during happy hour! The patio is a great place to hang out on the weekends!

Gabrielle M.

Yelp
Pretty good food. I ordered the burger and fries and my husband ordered the adult grilled cheese and the Father's love (a Hefeweizen). It was overall pretty good but nothing special. The service was decent. The burger was kinda dry so I had to put a lot of Mayo on it. I also wish there was maybe more variety to their menu. Good portions, decent price. Nice atmosphere.

R T.

Yelp
I'm a crazy beer loving kind of person, so this place was made for me. What will keep me coming back is the service and personalities of the staff. Had some really good laughs with the bar staff. Great personalities! The food was just so so. I'll try something different next time. Maybe what I ordered just was not meant for me.

LJ H.

Yelp
We love Ferus. The food and beer are delicious! I'm a huge fan of their sour beers. If you haven't been, go to the trussville location.

Keeshia P.

Yelp
Perhaps I chose this location during an off time. But there beer selection was minimal and the food was sub par. I ordered the salad. The description made me excited to try it. I love salads especially those with different toppings. Let's just jump into my disappointment. The salad was a messy bed of spinach leaves with toppings strewn about. I believe that you eat with your eyes first and this left me wanting more. I added bacon which helped, but I was sorely disappointed in the presentation and taste. They received 3 stars because the service was actually pretty decent. I don't fault the bar staff for the beer shortage or food. This not a place that I want revisit.

Nancy C.

Yelp
This is a very cool place. We received excellent service and the food was good. Smaller portions which I prefer. We sat inside, but there is a very nice outdoor space complete with a sound stage. Their beer was ok. I tried the Pilsner. It wasn't as good as Stella Artois, but acceptable. I think you really need to check this place out.

Jamie C.

Yelp
Love this place watch the Alabama, Georgia game, Alabama Auburn game. It's a really fun place.

Vince B.

Yelp
Great evening sitting outside watching high school football on the big screen. Beer was very good. My burger was great. Those at the bar where you order were very friendly.

Amy B.

Yelp
This place has wonderful atmosphere and also delicious food for a reasonable price point. We decided to meet up with some friends in Trussville and glad we did! For entrees we got the kids burger, kids chicken tenders, adult burger, and shrimp & grits. Shrimp and grits were amazing,so much food for the $. Kids burger was a bit dry but the adult burger was more juicy. Will definitely be back. They had a band playing when we were visiting Saturday evening.

Mr C.

Yelp
Food is bland. Service at the bar is really slow. Somethings on the menu aren't even available. Beer is good. That's about it.

Brian C.

Yelp
Between the great selection of beers, cocktails, and wine, awesome pub style food, friendly service, and outdoor entertainment area, you can't go wrong at Ferus. The burgers are so tasty and the beer battered fries rock! Try the brussels sprouts if you want a tasty and healthy option. The wings are great, especially the maple chili ones. They even have a kids menu with a very good grilled cheese and chicken tenders that are very yummy. The salads look good. I haven't had one yet but seem quite a few folks order them. Come out to Trussville and try Ferus. You won't be disappointed.

Katie J.

Yelp
This is my first time coming to Ferus in a long time because I live pretty far away. Stopped by with a friend recently and was pleasantly surprised to see all their growth! I started with the Tangerine Vanilla Sour. This was REALLY good, with the perfect amount of pucker at the end. Next I tried the Black Gose, and this is probably now one of my favorite beers EVER. It started out like a gose but finished like a stout...but saltier, if that makes sense lol. Just a wonderful beer. My friend had the wings and I had the poutine. Her wings were huge and delicious! My poutine, though....that's where I had to knock off a star. I get that different places have different concepts of popular dishes, but the fries were on the cold side (cold enough the cheddar cheese didn't really melt) and had zero flavor- oh to have had a salt shaker! The gravy was not wonderful and I was thankful the server suggested getting it on the side, because I ended up mostly eating my fries dipped in the ranch I stole from my friend. The brewery itself is lovely and spacious. TONS of seating indoors and out. I'll definitely be back to enjoy a black Gose on the patio and to maybe catch some live music!

Kendall B.

Yelp
Used to be so good but has gone downhill fast. We went around 3:30 June 20, 2023. We sat outside (bc the inside smells bad) and when the food came out, we had to get in line at the bar in order to get someone to hand it to us. Makes no sense when the person could have just handed it to us. Why are we waiting in line again? My tater tots were cold, soggy and absolutely inedible. Burger patties were cold and dried up. Wings and fries were good. Do not recommend.

Lexi J.

Yelp
I absolutely loveee ferus! I could eat the beer cheese fries forever it's so good and always have a good marg!

Meena C.

Yelp
Welcome to Trussville's newest hot spot! I've been here several times now, and each time gets better! Though I hesitate writing about how good the place is knowing that it'll attract the crowds, but here it goes. Environment: excellent! Such a fun place to hang out whether you're with a large group or by yourself. Plenty of seating (by the bar and by the eatery). Drinks: a good variety! My husband doesn't like beer, but Ferus has a decent list of cocktails (and a seasonal list as well) which makes this is a great place for those non beer drinkers. I personally love the sour beers! Food: we've had the burgers (multiple types), pretzel, fried pork skins, pork belly, popcorn, and they've all been delicious. The downside is that the food and alcohol ordering are separate (ie: you can't order food from the bar). What they've lost a star from is parking and the exterior - I really hope that by the time spring rolls around that they've got their outdoor pavilion set up and parking lots of finalized.

Jocelyn Q.

Yelp
Had a great time! It's a fun space with a wide variety of eclectic beers. Perfect place for football. Good service and atmosphere.

Kim C.

Yelp
As someone who grew up in Trussville, it's really cool to see the downtown area being revitalized. The whole entertainment district is a great addition to the city. Ferus is a great place to hang out with friends or have a chill date night. The atmosphere is sort of hipster-ish and laid back. It's a brewery so there is a wide selection of beers. I'm not a beer drinker myself but I tried the Fallen Passionfruit beer and really enjoyed it. The food is also excellent. We ordered the maple chili wings and stout poutine and really liked both. Service was super fast and our server was great. Will definitely be going here again!

Caleb H.

Yelp
Food: okay. Client base: basic. Staff: useless. How to put this experience into words... They say they don't sell things listed on the menu. They have staff that stands around shooting flies with a salt water gun instead of helping customers. No one tells you that your food is ready so it sits for long periods of time before you realize it's done. Wayyy too many children. Picture shows various salads we witnessed sitting in the sun for over an hour before the other customers had to walk up and ask where their food was.

John S.

Yelp
Came here for a belated Valentine's Day dinner. Parking was a challenge due to the construction in the area. We ended up parking all the way by the grocery store. When construction completes hopefully parking will be easier but likely there will be an even larger draw with the other breweries and dining options. Once inside we waited in a short line to order and get our pager. We then wandered around searching for seating. Once it warms up out door seating should help but in the meantime be prepared to wait for a table and hope one becomes available before your food is ready. For an appetizer we chose the Crawfish Hushpuppies. This was definitely a hit for both of us and will certainly order again. I decided to go with the Valentine's special Lobster & Shrimp Macaroni and Cheese. Super cheesy goodness with plenty of shellfish. Highly recommend. My wife decided to try the Fried Catfish PoBoy with a side salad. There was about twice the amount of fish you normally expect with a PoBoy. The catfish was some of the best I have had recently. Nice crisp cornmeal breading and super flaky. The kitchen mistakenly gave us fries in addition to the substituted side salad. The fries were really good as well. Overall Food Excellent, Hopefully the parking situation and seating availability improves to make this an easy 5*

Chip C.

Yelp
So far, I'm really enjoying having this place in downtown Trussville! I've been a few times since it has opened. They have a typical bar section, and they have a seated section with booths. Several TVs throughout the area to watch football or basketball games on. They also have a private party area, and are still working on finishing their outside patio bar area. I'm looking forward to this once it has warmed up in the Spring! Only thing negative I really have to say about the place is the parking - due to all the construction, it can be a mess. But that it something that will be fixed with time, and is really out of their control right now. The food here is great. I've tried their pork belly and slaw. Only downside of the pork belly is that I wish more came with your order! The pretzels, when they are in stock, are simply massive. They take up the whole tray - tip for you: definitely get the beer cheese. I've also had their ale-house burger which has, you guessed it, beer cheese on it. It had a great taste to it with the bacon and beer cheese. I'm not too crazy for beer, but thankfully, they have cocktails/mixed drinks as well. Look forward to coming back soon!

Nikki C.

Yelp
This place is just like (but nicer/more upscale) a beer garden I used to go to in Denver. You order food and get alcohol separate at the bar. It's a little confusing to get to because the whole area is under construction. If you drive into the Fresh value parking lot at the CVS and go East you'll find the parking for the new area. They have games which I love! The place is gorgeous and has a great atmosphere! The people are great and I was happy to see that they were busy on a Monday night!! I got a glass of red blend wine from the tap. It was reasonably priced or you can get in a can for about $15. It's almost two glasses of wine so it's reasonable too. The musics also not too loud! The burger and fries were top notch! I couldn't get a bite of the burger since my husband ate it too fast! Fries - medium size with a nice crisp crunch Crawfish Hushpuppies were amazing! - with a crunchy crust and perfect bite and an amazing almost sweet Bbq Sauce. Cuban Eggrolls - I hate to sell these short but I am part Cuban and they didn't make the cut. The crisp outside was great and there was a slice of ham. I didn't detect cheese and they were mostly filled with a pulled pork and topped with a dijonnaise mayonnaise cream sauce. Unfortunate you just get pulled pork albeit juicy not dry, but not so Cuban. I just found myself wanting to drench these in the Hushpuppies Bbq sauce. Soo excited for this type of place in this growing, wonderful neighborhood!

Adalena G.

Yelp
There are nowhere near enough tables/space for all the traffic this place gets! The chicken fingers are delicious and I also love the wedge salad. I am not a beer drinker but their margaritas are delicious! I do wish they had a full bar because I wish I could order more variety but I get that it's a brewery. The wait is usually pretty long because of the "hang out" and with not many restaurants in trussville that part sucks. But over all a good place!

Hanna W.

Yelp
This was our first time here, and we were Pretty disappointed. We were seated when we first walked in so that was great, but the service once we were seated was horrible. We were there for almost 2 hours and our server only came by the table 3 times, once to get our first drink order, to get our food order, and bring our check. We had to flag someone down to get any refills. The food was okay, nothing too amazing. The price however was a bit much for why you get. The pimento cheese dip was good, and so was the chicken salad but it was only one small scoop. The fries are good as well. We probably won't be returning, there is just other places around that little entertainment district that seemed like a better choice.

Ms R.

Yelp
JUNE 2023 - Take two - We visited again. Our waitress on this visit was Melissa and she did a great job. The food was good. Our problem arrived with the ticket. We love coming to ferus, but the prices have gone up too far. I'm not talking about a dollar per item to cover inflation. I'm talking about noticeable increases of $5-$10 an item. It's way too much for beer and bar food. It's insane. - June 2023 - We typically love going to ferus to try the sours and have a burger. We usually have pretty good experiences and for that reason we keep coming back. But, Today we arrived and it was a 'brunch menu only' day. We couldn't even order the appetizer we wanted. I decided to try the chicken and waffles... and it was the worst thing I've ever had from ferus. I expected good and tasty food, especially for the $16 they charged for it. I received one dry, flavorless waffle along with 3, 2 inch long chicken strips that tasted like susan under breaded and over cooked them at home in her frying pan. To top off this visit... our server was non-existent. She never returned to the table after bringing us our drinks. She did not return until we were done eating and it was time for the check. Yeah, We will be back. We will be back because our other previous experiences here have been better than today. Please do better.

Sharman M.

Yelp
Server was sub par at best. Server never asked if we wanted water and when I asked for a glass of water with lemon, he brought a styrofoam cup with tap water...no ice, no lemon. He also overcharged me for my cocktails. We finished eating and he never came back to clear the table or ask if we needed another drink...nothing!!! I went to the bar to get a shot of Titos and it was $10!!!!! Food was good, service and prices not so much!Probably won't be back!

Bethany W.

Yelp
Overpriced food is now more over priced... We have been going to Ferus for over a year. We arrived yesterday to find a changed menu, which is always good to have changes... except the prices went up from the already high prices they had. Example : Egg rolls went from $8 to $12. A $4 increase. Last time we filled our growler it was $21. Yesterday we were charged $32 to fill it. An $11 increase. That's like paying $32 for a 6 pack of beer. It's absolute nonsense. Our total was over $100 for two burgers and two beers, then the growler. It's absurd. It makes me sad that we can't go back.

Judy A.

Yelp
I ordered a hamburger and my fries were cold the hamburger was 'ok'. The baggie beer was drinkable. Definitely not worth coming back
