The 20 Best Restaurants in Hobart, Australia | Eater

"After falling in love in Northern Italy and spending a year searching for the perfect city to settle down, Naples-born Federica Andrisani and Tasmanian Oskar Rossi opened Fico (meaning fig in Italian) in the heart of Hobart. The chef-owners lean toward European and Italian flavors with dishes like lamb brain tortellini and thick Parmesan and onion panna cotta. But they are not scared to veer away from that wheelhouse to serve crowd pleasers like soy-cured kingfish bites with wasabi cream. On Sunday, the couple create a lunch tasting menu with their morning haul from Farm Gate Market. [$$$ - $$$$]" - Audrey Bourget

The 9 courses were truly amazing and we were delighted they use local produce that is elevated and delicately considered. You will be delightful by the flavors of each dish and the portions are perfect - your belly will be full and content. I highly recommend Fico if you want a fine dining experience that is from the heart and matched with great service and ambience.

This place is truly wonderful! Absolutely loved it! The food is incredibly delicious, the service is unequivocal and the atmosphere is warm, casual and fine dining all at once. The dishes evoke gastronomic curiosity and delight. The only dish we weren’t keen on was the asparagus, macadamia nuts thing (egg custard dashi) because it strangely wasn’t well seasoned and the texture of the meal could have been better. The highs were the dessert, the tortellini (OMG that celeriac broth was sensational), the bread, the mussels soup with the paprika pasta… The wine was pretty good but far too expensive. Thank you for amazing service and an amazing experience !!

Had an amazing dinner here tonight. We sadly had to rush off early because we had a bit of a family emergency at our Airbnb. And also we had overindulged at Mona during the day so we decided to skip the cheese, but truly sensational on all fronts, amazing food, great service from Talia. Thank you, will visit again next time in Hobart! Truly superb!

Delicious, Delicious, Delicious!!! What an absolute treat. Wasn't planning on this trip but managed to book in and get a seat, it was at a raised bar level section a big beautiful lump of wood with lovely inlays (Other standard seated tables are available). The front of house were super relaxed and knowledgeable. It's a lovely setting with views into the open kitchen and pass, we had great fun guessing if what was being plated was our next dish. The food was outstanding, varied regional cuisine all beautifully presented and served with a guide on where it was all sourced, what to expect and how best to eat it. We shared a wine pairing as we're not big drinkers but like to see how they work out and I was gob smacked at how good it was. I usually get the idea but rarely find wine delicious for me, this was something else tasting the wines before the course and after I was very pleased and amazed at how well they work 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 I'm unsure if or when we may return to Tasi but this will definitely be on the list again. Thanks you very much Fico

As interstate visitors, we were eagerly looking forward to dining at Fico, renowned for its fine cuisine and exceptional atmosphere. Overall, our experience was quite enjoyable, with standout dishes and a lively ambiance, though there were a few hiccups along the way. The Food: The culinary offerings truly impressed us. The bread, served as part of the course, was a highlight—soft, with a deep sourdough flavor and a beautifully crunchy crust. We wish we could have had more! (Is this really a course though?) Among the dishes, the popping mushroom capelli was our favorite—bursting with flavor and perfectly cooked. The brown sorbet dessert was also a delightful finale, offering a unique and memorable taste. However, towards the end of our meal, the crème caramel felt a bit dull and repetitive, especially after the similarly textured savory chawanmushi course, which slightly dulled our dessert experience. Ambience & Atmosphere: The restaurant’s ambiance was somewhat acceptable, but I found it to be a bit loud and chaotic for a fine dining setting. It lacked the quiet elegance typically associated with such establishments, which was a bit surprising. We did appreciate the overall vibe, but it could benefit from a more refined atmosphere. Service & Experience: Initially, we encountered some inconvenience with our booking—an error in the system led to us being seated at a bar table instead of our reserved spot. The bar stool was somewhat uncomfortable, but luckily, we were moved to a proper table for our mains, which improved our comfort. The service was a bit below the expectations for a fine diner; we expected a higher level of attention to detail. That said, the bartender/sommelier did an excellent job, and we were pleasantly surprised when the chefs came out to serve and explain the dishes—adding a personal touch that we appreciated. Final Thoughts: While there were some minor setbacks and the overall atmosphere could be more refined, the quality of the food and the moments of genuine hospitality made for a decent experience.

Google
We went to Fico for lunch on Sunday. I’d easily describe the food and service as the best I’ve ever experienced. The flavour combinations, textures and fragrances were expertly considered and the explanations of wine pairings were excellent. I was rendered speechless with the quality and taste of every dish in disbelief that food can be this incredible!! I 100% would recommend! You are missing out if you haven’t dined at Fico

Yelp
Much to our disappointment, service was subpar as was the food. Our group ordered the tasting menu even though, oddly, our waitress couldn't tell us what was on it. Food presentation was nice but every dish was over seasoned and too salty... except for dessert. The worst was the risotto which was severely undercooked. I told the waitress and she explained its supposed to be "al dente" and "chewy". I told her that it was undercooked and crunchy and she said "yes, that's how it's supposed to be". Um... ok, so she gave 2 opposing definitions of al dente. Both she and the cooks either have a delusional sense of what al dente really is or they've redefined it. Most dishes I didn't bother finishing because they just weren't good. I would not recommend this place at all.

Yelp
Best meal I've had in Australia, and one of the best anywhere in years. It's an interesting deconstruction of dishes from Italy and beyond, focused on local ingredients, without a hint of pretentiousness. The food is both highly creative and deeply satisfying -- a rare mix. Extensive and delicious wine menu. Save room for the strawberry aero dessert, it was sublime!
