If you're going to get up to Fiddlehead Brewing for IPA's, you might also taste the pickled fiddleheads in a jar. They come in two flavors: bread and butter fiddleheads and dill fiddleheads.
Fiddlehead Brewing says they do not use fiddlehead fern fronds in their brewing process. But it certainly is a curious name for an innovative brewery. Something else that is curious is that I didn't taste the pickled fiddleheads on my visit. I thought they might be giving away samples but if I visit again, I will try them.
Fiddlehead offers 4 IPA's and one Belgian this year. The Fiddlehead IPA is not a favorite, only because I don't like IPA's. It is very popular. So popular, in fact, that I've tasted it over and over. But I do enjoy Double IPA's, and really liked their Mastermind Double IPA. It's cloudy and unfiltered. It's not bitter and has a fruity mouthfeel. Tropical fruit, to be exact, with pineapple and cantaloupe notes.
I also tasted a Mexican style lager -- Juan Ricardo -- brewed with agave, lime and local Vermont tortilla chips. It's light and drinkable. Adding a fresh lime - in addition to the fact that it's brewed with limes - would have made this beer spectacular. They didn't have limes on hand.
The Fiddlehead White is a Belgian wheat ale ... smooth, easy and perfect for warm weather.
Hungry? Folino's Pizza is adjoining in this building. If you order a pizza they will deliver it to you at Fiddlehead's.
