Yelp
Fiddler's Inn - what a great find!
We've made three trips to Carlsbad, NM, our favorite destination with literally one thing to offer, the spectacular Carlsbad Cavern National Park. I have a Yelp Collection named "Carlsbad Cuisine" which has the intentionally ironic subtitle "A very short list". It's a sad town actually, not emblematic of what New Mexico has to offer at all. Jewels like Fiddler's Inn are thus amplified.
One of the first selling points was the proximity of this charming B&B to the excellent Blue House Bakery & Coffee Shop. I was drawn in by the classic B&B look of the rooms, paired with a hotel sensibility and vouchers provided fro breakfast at the Blue House. Win, win & win!
We stayed in the Orange blossom Suite, a Jack & Jill pair of rooms which was partially closed off for us so they could charge us the lower price for s single room. Amenities were reminiscent of a hotel, coffee maker, microwave, TV, etc. The extra touches included some delicious chocolate cookies and mints on each side of the bed. The room and bathroom were both clean. Water pressure was quite low. And the mattress was a little soft for my taste. But nothing major.
The grounds include a courtyard with a small stage, benches and tables and string lighting. A hot tub is available, which seemed enticing on the website. But, it was 108 degrees the day were there. And the water did not look fresh. Why would it be with 108 degree weather?
Check in and check out were easy. The owner was very responsive to questions. We appreciated the Albertson's Market within walking distance. There are motels at the south end of town that will save you 10-15 minutes drive to the caverns. But for me the extra time is worth it. We will definitely repeat on future visits to the caverns, our favorite day-trip getaway.
