AutoCamp Launches Field Station, an Affordable Hotel Brand - AFAR

"Launched by AutoCamp Hospitality Group as an upcycled-lodge concept opening in early 2023 in Moab, Utah, this affordable outdoor-focused hotel converts existing lodges and motels into basecamps. It will offer traditional king and double-queen rooms plus camper-van parking with communal bathrooms, showers, and Wi‑Fi, with introductory nightly rates starting around $159 for rooms and $49 for Van Life spots in nonpeak seasons. Rooms feature a minimalist Scandinavian design and photography by Cliford Mervil, plus bike racks and ample gear storage; select rooms install portaledges (hanging beds used by climbers) on the walls instead of cots. On-site services include a retail shop and rentals from brands like Outdoor Research and Black Diamond, guides for curated experiences (with AllTrails partnerships for DIY trail recommendations), and amenities such as a pool, firepits, an espresso bar, and a communal Gear + Beer gathering spot. Weekly programming — outdoor movies, classes on local Indigenous history, and survival-skill workshops — will be open to both guests and locals." - Lyndsey Matthews

Our stay at Field Station, Moab, was fantastic. The hotel is thoughtfully designed and well-organized, with rooms featuring numerous functional amenities often overlooked in traditional hotels. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We loved the variety of board games, books, and the ping pong table, perfect for unwinding after a day full of activities. The on-site recreation store was also incredibly convenient for picking up any last-minute essentials for our adventures. Overall, it was a truly unique and enjoyable experience!

It was nice to spoil myself with the "Vanlife" spot for a night. While I got to charge my van batteries and refill on water, I enjoyed the amenities . Clean, hot shower and bathrooms with towels! Hot tub! The Free laundry was such a nice surprise. Appreciated not having to make my own coffee in the morning.

I do not get some of the negative reviews here. Our room was big, clean and thankfully quiet (we were quite a ways away from the reception) and staff friendly. Free morning coffee very much appreciated. Good snack food. Pool area is nice albeit overrun by raucous kids bombing in the pool non stop. And in the hot tub didn’t like that so much. Location is unbeatable to arches. Also the air con isn’t that loud we had much louder in other hotels. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

I was a little disappointed with my stay. It has more of a college dorm/ikea vibe than I expected. Nothing wrong with that, it’s a nice niche, but not what I expected with how it’s advertised. Just a note - They charge to clean your room. Which I always put up do not disturb signs, but just a note because that wasn’t explained to me. Great location to the arches national park. The walls/floors are thin. I could hear the person above me all night. Good coffee both the complimentary and from the cafe.

It has a great outdoor gear shop and little cafe which are great. But the room we had was right next to reception, the aircon rattled, and when it was off, we could hear the roar of the aircon for the main reception area. And it got even noisier with all the people up early to go riding, hiking, etc. the pool area and main common room were both good and well used by other patrons. The free coffee in reception all morning was excellent. It had a laundry for guests and it was complimentary which was generous.

I really wanted to love this place… I arrived and was given the room right next to the laundry machines (free use of those so that was a good +) where people hang out and talk, so it was quite loud in that room. I went up to the staff and they let me change room no questions asked ! Really professional and young staff. The new room was okay, no different layout, but it wasn’t really clean. You could tell it had been cleaned, but nothing thorough at all. The floor was so greasy it was slippery, lots of hair on the shower/bathroom floor and fat stains on the light switches… I also do not recommend their breakfast sandwich, I’ve rarely had just a small sandwich, and paid $10 for it… you can find much better in town, even really close by. I stayed for 2 nights, and I was in no way disappointed to leave. This place was overpriced in my opinion. Location and cool « outdoor » theme might justify it, but cleanliness should be more important

My mom and I stayed here two nights and absolutely loved it. Everything was clean and the rooms had lots of thoughtful touches. They keep things simple and put the money where it matters like nice beds, good showers, and a lovely common space. Also the complimentary coffee was really good, not your average hotel coffee! We will definitely stay again.

Stayed for 3 nights while mountain biking and loved it as a home base. Amazing to jump in a crisp pool after a ride, lovely as well to relax at the hot tub. Lobby is a great place to get a little bit of work done if needed, and coffee bar made objectively high quality coffee (coming from a coffee snob and former barista). Heather at the front desk was super accommodating, staff in general seemed helpful and knowledgeable about the area and even what trails to ride. Two thumbs way up!
