Fifth Hammer in LIC serves up a rotating lineup of crafty brews in a dog-friendly, industrial-chic taproom with food trucks and lively events.
"Connor Kaminski and Tahiz Gonzalez, two fine dining chefs, have a new business specializing in carnitas tacos: They’re one of several businesses in the city selling them right now. The couple’s resume includes big names like Uncle Boons and Eleven Madison Park, but in December, they started selling slow-cooked pork under the name Beto’s Carnitas. Their next event is this evening, May 20, from 5 to 10 p.m., at Fifth Hammer Beer in Long Island City (10-28 46th Avenue, between 11th Street and Vernon Boulevard)." - Luke Fortney
"One of our favorite places to eat birria tacos in the city will be posted up at Fifth Hammer Brewing in Long Island City this Thursday, July 22nd from 4-10pm. The tacos, mulitas, and consomme at Chinelos all taste deliciously cilantro forward, with heavy hints of warming spices like clove, star anise, and cinnamon. All that is to say the stew is more herbaceous here than what’s happening at adobo-forward birria spots like Birria-Landia or Tacos El Bronco. If you want something beyond the 3 for $10 birria tacos, get a $4 mulita, which has crispy cheese layered between the nixtamal corn tortillas, plus a bunch of cotija sprinkled on top." - hannah albertine
"This LIC brewery is offering free beer delivery in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Plus, their taproom is open every day for to-go orders. All orders must be placed online." - nikko duren
"You’ll find one or two Fifth Hammer beers at a few bars in the city, but if you want to try more than just whatever farmhouse ale you find in the wild, we’d suggest you go to the source. Fifth Hammer’s LIC taproom allows you to bring dogs, kids, and whatever Trader Joe’s snacks you’re currently carrying around in Ziploc baggies. They’ve got patio tables out front, and plenty of space for a group hang inside." - nikko duren
"You’ll find one or two Fifth Hammer beers at many of places on this guide, but if you want to try more than just whatever farmhouse ale you find in the wild, we’d suggest you go to the source. Fifth Hammer’s LIC taproom is one of our favorite places to drink with a big group in LIC. You can bring your dogs, your kids, and whatever Trader Joe’s snack you’re currently carrying around in Ziploc baggies. Plus, they have live music every Wednesday where the musicians improvise based on whatever beer is on tap and the people in the room." - hannah albertine, bryan kim, matt tervooren
