12 Best Places to Eat and Drink in Frederick, Maryland | Eater DC

"The reason that the burgers at Fifty Fifty have developed a cult following lies in the patty recipe — it’s half beef, half bacon, and all flavor. Get the classic burger, or try one of its inventive creations, like the Belgian Black Label, served atop Belgian waffles, the PBPB&BB, which comes with spicy peanut butter and pickles, or the aptly named I Can’t Feel My Face — a serious smoke show thanks to ghost pepper sauce. And do not miss out on the Old Bay fries." - Lulu Chang

Google
Interesting concept. 50% beef 50% bacon. You can taste the 50% bacon. I would almost say it’s too much bacon. Now don’t get me wrong. It was still delicious and would recommend a stop. But not your typical burger. Reminds me of an elevated 5 guys. Got the build your own and Oklahoma animal and sweet potato fries.

I can’t believe we’ve never been here before. Suppose is such Hidden gem. We came hungry and left full and satisfied. Start our order off crispy onion rings, and the best seasoned Old Bay that I’ve ever had. I got the old-fashioned burger and added candied jalapeños, which were surprisingly very tasty and not too spicy. I think the key to the burgers are there half bacon and half ground beef, which takes the taste of the next level. We arrive right at lunchtime and we were the only people in here for a while before the lunch rush came in, but don’t worry there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Google
Good but not worth all the hype. The Peter Piper was delicious, highly recommend adding carmelized onions and tomato but that poblano cream cheese is the star. The old fashioned burger sounded better than it tasted. Just odd they choose to put the carmelized onions in the bottom of the bun cuz we took ours to go and it started to get soggy quickly.

Google
Great lunch special. Build your own smash burger and fries. Service was great. Got drinks at the brewery. Recommend.

Google
Talk about a hidden gem. Had a superb burger, fries and onion rings at Fifty-Fifty recently. These are smash burgers done right! I know some reviews have suggested that these burgers are similar style to five guys, which is true, but personally I found it to be better. Juicier, tastier patties and the sauce was outstanding. Not only are the burgers great but the atmosphere was buzzing. Really reasonable prices also. Great place to watch some college basketball while enjoying outstanding burgers and brews. Definitely coming back.

Google
Really enjoyed our first visit here. Really good bacon/beef burgers. Had the make-your-own, Waffle burger, and chicken sandwich. Everyone was happy with their meal. Canned drinks? But fine, lots of take out orders. Onion rings were just standard, but the burgers were excellent. Really liked the atmosphere. Very old school American bar/pub/grill. Worth the money for sure.

Google
Definitely worth the trip up to Frederick to try these amazing burgers, though I hope they open up a location further down 270 South to grow their business in MoCo. Staff was super friendly in helping us refine our choices and plenty of space in the back to grab a drink from the bar first and then sit and enjoy your meal. The must try is their flagship Fifty Fifty Burger (Half beef and half bacon smash patties seasoned with house rub and topped with White American cheese) - absolutely tremendous flavor, just indulgent. I had to go back and try another burger and they recommended the Oklahoma Animal (The Fifty Fifty Burger, Oklahoma style and Animal Style. Fried onions and mustard smashed into the patties, pickles, Fifty Fifty sauce and cheese.) - equally impressive, robust flavor. Can't wait to enjoy these burgers again. And please open up a spot close to Rockville! There's nothing like it here and you'll have lines out the door :)

Google
Stopped by with my wife, daughter and her boyfriend. Nice location on northern market street in back of the bar, large seating area with picnic table. Our order taker was friendly, both fries, plain and old bay were good the smash burgers were tasty and interesting concept mixed with 50 %beef and 50%bacon, but they were small, maybe 4 to 5 ounces and expensive around 13 bucks I personally prefer 8oz thick and juicy, these were thin and almost crispy. Not bad, but not for me, thanks anyway .

Yelp
Reallyyyyyy not a fan of the pickles. There was a short period of time when they had dill pickles but apparently that was a fluke. Deters me from ordering a burger period because the pickles they have are not good. The other thing is that they do not accommodate plant based burgers for kids meals. My niece really wanted a plant based burger & tots but they insisted they do not do that & it was an up charge to accommodate. Many children I know are vegetarian/vegan!

Yelp
As we walked in, we noticed the really cool ambiance, with a laid back, street vibe. The kind of place to come with friends, but was great for our family to have lunch too. We ordered a Peter Piper, it was delicious (my favorite of everything we ordered)! The pickled cherry peppers were spicy, but not too much so it gave it the perfect kick to go with the sweetness of the bourbon molasses. My son had the Ogre burger which was HUGe, but he said was really good. We also had an Old Fashioned, which was really juicy and flavorful and a kids menu which included fries, a juice box, the burger and a burger gummy. It was so large and customizable. My daughter loved it. Regarding service, we ordered everything through the kiosk, so we didn't actually deal with people, but everything was quick, smooth. The sweet potato fries with blueberry sauce were delish and the regular fries had a lot and delicious seasoning. We fully recommend this place!

Yelp
Burger was half bacon half ground beef unique flavor not bad. They drowned our burgers in the sauces that came on them while I'm glad it was plentiful it was a bit excessive and caused the bread to be really soggy. Everything was fresh and made to order. It's a great vibe for sure and relaxed. I definitely would go back for their events like trivia night etc. Service was nice as well. The bartender was cool and made our drinks really strong and flavorful.

Yelp
Cute and fun little place. Actually, it's not so little. It is attached to the Olde Mother Brewing. There is also a small outdoor section. You have to place an order at the kiosks which is not my favorite thing to do. I would prefer human interaction. We ordered old bay fries which was a little too salty. The onion rings (extra crispy) were delicious. I liked my burger with all the toppings while my friend thought his burger was a little too salty. Maybe all the toppings I had cut the saltiness. It was overall a fun adventure.

Yelp
We visited for Father's Day lunch! Wait time was a little bit longer because the restaurant was Pat. We all three build our own burgers. I added onion ring in mine, and my husband ordered his with baking. The smash burgers are the best in town and the fries are delicious with obey seasoning. We highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Burger was really good other than it was cold. I had my phone on table and did not know they would notify by text since they took my name. Food sat on there front counter for 11 minutes without me knowing it was ready. I went to check on meal and it was sitting there in a bag with my name on it. Burger was good just cold since it say there for so long. The fries were good to other than they sat there for 11 minutes. What's sad is I gave them an $8 dollar tip in advance hoping to get good service. Instead it was the opposite. A local came in after me and they greeted him and even joked with him. We did not get a hi or anything when we came to the front counter. Just wish we had a better experience.

Yelp
Great place. This place is split with half bar/half restaurant with seatings for a variety of group sizes. The staff are quick and always on the move. I got my food in a relatively quick time. I ordered on their ipad but they also had a counter where you can order face-to-face. I got two burgers and fries for takeout, the ogre and a make your own. Both were really good and full of flavor. The Fries were seasoned well. The prices were a little high but the size and flavor made up for it. It was messy to eat it but all in all I would recommend and would get it again

Yelp
We entered through Olde Mother Brewing, but they were so nice and directed us to the right place! Ordering was super easy at the kiosks with LOTS of options. The lunch special is perfection, the burgers are "bussin'" according to my kiddo. Old Bay fries were great, but could be overwhelming if you're not an OB person. The sauce was SO good, easy and friendly service, cool, large seating area and very chill. It was a quiet weekday so we parked on the street at a meter. Bring quarters. This place was exactly what we wanted.

Yelp
Consistently one of the best burgers I've ever had. You order on a screen, fries are separate. The fries are amazing too. It's around $18 maybe for fries and burger, give or take, but 100% worth it. Cannot recommend this place more.

Yelp
Fifty Fifty is one of the best places to get smash burgers. You can order on the toast tab app and choose to either create your own smash burger or choose one of their specialty smash burgers. I customized my smash burger with jalapeños, sautéed onions, lettuce, and cheese. If you are a spice lover like me, I highly recommend you try their ghost pepper sauce. It was incredibly spicy, but so flavorful. Fifty Fifty is a casual burger joint that has a brewery attached to it where you can enjoy beers as well. The service is pretty much self-serve, where you can order via the app or their self kiosk and wait till you're notified that your order is ready.

Yelp
The food is amazing! The old bay fries were great! Everyone was super nice too! The restaurant is in a large room, but they had fun seating for everyone!

Yelp
Sorry no pictures because I destroyed that burger. Mrs and our four year old stopped here for lunch. We've been looking for an another good burger place. We remembered having 50/50 at a food truck and it was fantastic. The restaurant didn't disappoint, we got the Ogre burger, She's my cherry burger and some standard Dino nuggets . Really good quality meats and fries. Make sure you get some 50/50 sauce for those fries. We'll definitely be back 10/10.

Yelp
Solid place for hamburgers (half beef/half bacon), served on delicious Martins potato rolls. One of the cooks was friendly, answering all my questions about the menu, although he was busy. My wife's onion rings were also very good. The only downers were the fries ... they were over cooked and very salty (too much Old Bay) and the lack of fountain sodas was also a downer.

Yelp
I finally made it out to fifty fifty after many attempts over the past year. Coming into it, I had very high expectations of this establishment as it comes very highly recommended. The customer service is a bit non-existent, but that is okay for this type of place. When you arrive there is a self-service kiosk for you to order and it has all of the options on it that you can think of. I ordered a build your own with an order of their onion rings. One cool thing about the kiosk is that the order and status goes straight to your phone via text message. This is important because if you wonder over to the brewery side to order a drink you don't have to worry about missing your food. The food was hot and fresh (everything is made to order). I'm also a big fan of the potato roll for the bun. Their burgers and half bacon and half beef. With that. The burger to me was very underwhelming. I expected a nice crust on the smashed patties (none and just cooked to barely temp) and it lacked a lot of flavor. The onion rings were very good and seasoned well as they were piping hot. Overall, it's a good place to eat but not quite as advertised for me. There are better burgers in Frederick. The inside is very nice and open with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Also, if you want ketchup they give you on little container with a lid on it about half full).

Yelp
Delicious burger. Of course because it's 50% bacon it's gonna be a little greasy. Not my #1 burger but still very good. And you can't go wrong grabbing a local brew and a burger.
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
I ordered the Ogre burger. The burger party itself wasn't what I expected. I was more expecting a thick juicy smash burger, but instead it was thin and wasn't really juicy. The description said there was tiger sauce but I didn't see or taste any. The bottom bun was also very soggy. Overall, I wasn't that impressed with the burger. We also ordered the old bay fries and there was way too much old bay on them and they were very salty. The service was decent. The men making the burgers were fast and helpful. I like how Toast system texts you and lets you know when your food is ready. I liked how it was intertwined with the brewery. Burgers and beer for the win! You do have to order them separately though, but that's ok! Plenty of seating and there's outdoor tables and chairs too.

Yelp
Top 3 best burger in Frederick! This spot is tied for number 1 in my very humble opinion. My family and I have been here 3 times now, and we've all had an opportunity to try different variations of their burgers. It is located inside of Olde Mother Brewery, which is a plus if you also enjoy having a beer with your meal! The burger patties are made with beef AND bacon! Hence, the name Fifty Fifty. Need I say more?! The last time I came I tried the Ogre which was SO good. It was nice and juicy and just right. Also ordered a side of onion rings and OMG they were perfectly fried and crispy. The vibe is very casual inside. What you'd expect of a brewery. It's good to bring your kids, go with a friend, or even on a date! The seating in the back, near Fifty Fifty and by the stage, is picnic bench style seating. I don't have much to say about the service as you place your order through a tablet and just wait for your food to be ready at the counter. There isn't much interaction with the folks working, but we've never had a bad experience with them thus far. If you're looking for a great burger, look no further and give this place a try!

Yelp
Lord almighty this truck knows how to make a mean burger. This is one of the best burgers I have ever had in my life definitely in the top three best burgers I've ever had. I would have never thought this combination would work out on a burger, but it blew my mind! The service is fast, it's a good truck lol. Great people run this truck, smiles, jokes, they just looked they were having a good time. Writing this review and looking at this burger, makes me want to go back to Frederick and order it again! I mean come on it's a burger with peanut butter look at it! it's a masterpiece. The quality of these burgers speak for themselves. Make sure you follow them on Instagram to figure out where the truck is going to be next. Fifty Fifty 10 out of 10! #eatfiftyfifty

Yelp
Was quite excited to try some burgers at fifty fifty. My selections were the default 50/50 beef and bacon burger and the default chicken sandwich. The burger patties were thin and dry but the buns were fresh. The chicken burger was more of cornmeal type crust which meant it was hard / crunchy instead of crispy. I prefer juicy burgers in general. The option to select multiple different toppings was a bonus, but unfortunately I was underwhelmed by the burgers. I did have a wheat beer from old mother which shares the space. The beer was refreshing.

Yelp
So, the Fifty Fifty crew has a food truck. It made its way to our little food truck alley (the last two weeks). 1. The burgers are amazing, and the options and quality are high. Okay, they do include sweet pickles, which I am not a huge fan of, but everything else is perfect. Burger quality (it's 1/2 and 1/2) is amazing. The burgers are made in the smash style, so they mix the crispy edge with a flatter burger. Often, burgers cooked in this style end up dry, but not from 50/50! 2. oh, the fries (and the chipotle dipping sauce). Oh my. I am a fry guy, and Fifty Fifty does a great job with their old bay Fries. Overall an amazing burger, which is sort of well nice!

Yelp
Awesome burgers. Hands down one of, if not THE, best burger places in town. Great prices, quick service.
google avatar

Alexandra Sarai C.

Yelp
10/10 loved the food! Although the fries could be a little less seasoned but that was my fault, should've asked for less seasoning. Other than that everything was amazing!
google avatar

Angela S.

Yelp
I am a vegetarian (not vegan) and really enjoyed the plant-based smash burger. You can build your own (many toppings are free), or have any of the menu combos but with the plant burger instead. I had the one with sour cherry jam and herbed goat cheese. So good! My only complaint is that they use the absolute cheapest buns you can find (like Walmart 8 pack). It would really elevate the experience if they upgraded the bun. Easy to order online or on their computerized menu in person, easy to carry out or eat there or in the brewery.
google avatar

Sarah E.

Yelp
Fifty fifty has smash style burgers that are really good as well as chicken options. I really like the I can't feel my face burger. The chicken for me was ok. Crispy but not quite enough flavor. Their beef is definitely the better choice. Their fries and onion rings are also solid. My only complaint is I do wish they had an alternative to the bacon mixed into the ground beef. Some people don't eat pork, so maybe a turkey bacon or even just beef would be nice. Because they are attached to old mother brewing you get the second hand benefit of the brewery ambiance. The service is quick, and their staff is really nice. In the summer they have featured desserts from local spots that are always really tasty. A great place to grab a bite and beer after work.

Cole B.

Yelp
I do not give reviews often, but i had to go out of my way to give this 5 stars. Hands down best burger I've ever had. Service was also amazing and my family's food was ready in 10 minutes. We will be coming back for sure! 10/10 recommendation
google avatar

Jamie B.

Yelp
Very good burgers, I fact they could be the best in DTF or Downtown Frederick. However they lack a little in the service department. They say they'll shout out your name when your order is ready. They don't! Or if they do then maybe Horton could hear them, we couldn't. Not a major thing, but it would be nice. Thankfully lots of beer to help you get your thirst up beforehand.
google avatar

Jake S.

Yelp
Fifty fifty does it again!! Tried their seasonal peaches burger and like always, it slaps. Such a unique flavor profile but definitely works. My favorite "Peter Piper" burger is top 5 burgers of all time...do yourself a favor if you haven't already. Oh and their old bay fries are great, would recommend the sweet potato fries w blueberry ketchup with the sweet peaches burger.
google avatar

Tylon S.

Yelp
This is THE best burger spot in Maryland. Every time I'm in Frederick it's like I have to eat here.
google avatar

Maria D.

Yelp
Very good burgers made with a mix up of beef and bacon. Thin, juicy, and crispy on the outside. The flavor is there! They have some unusual concoctions as well. Mine had cherry preserves and an herbed goat cheese, it was delicious! There is even a hot burger made with ghost peppers that you have to sign a waiver for. Hubby is dieting so he got a chicken sandwhich, said it was average. But you don't come to a burger joint to get an award winning chicken sandwich! The space is very open with two rooms and some outside dining. It's situated inside an operating brewery so you see the large barrels. It is a little on the dark side, which I struggle with. You order at the bar or counter and pick up when your name is called. Never heard my name but walked up and my order was there. I will say I do think it was expensive for what it was and did leave hungry. The burgers run $13-$14, and come with nothing, not even chips. They use a potato roll as a bun which got soft/messy really quickly and is on the smaller side - I do feel a broiche roll would do it better justice. Street parking was easy to secure within a block's walk. I would come again.

Skyler F.

Yelp
The burgers are amazing! They're probably my favorite smash burgers I've had. It's a little on the pricey side, but I feel it's totally worth it. I always go here when I'm in town!

Kerri B.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our burgers, old bay fries, and onion rings. We have been talking about the burgers since we had them a couple days ago. The sides are great, but unless you are starving, big enough to share. You won't regret dropping by to enjoy the best burger I've had in a long time.
google avatar

Mary B.

Yelp
Oh dang this place is so good. The chicken sandwich sent me to my happy place. Didn't have to wait too long and everyone was friendly. Had tried their food truck before but enjoyed their spot in Old Mother Brewing a lot. We will be back!

Ceecee C.

Yelp
Delicious burgers in Frederick! Fast service and full of flavor, definitely recommended for a visit. The vibe is also super chill and relaxed. Went there with an infant and a kiddo and 3 adults and had ample seating.

Weedon G.

Yelp
These folks know what they're doing. For my dime, the best burger in Frederick County. just fantastic!
google avatar

Jacqueline R.

Yelp
This was hard to find at first but so worth the hunt! Craving a burger this past saturday had to search high and low for a new spot. Found this place on Instagram and they did not disappoint. First of all located inside a brewery in downtown frederick; beer and a burger what a combo! I ordered the old fashioned and it was more of a salty and a bit sweet concoction but i loved each second of it. Freshly made in their open kitchen and the two ladies there were very helpful in breaking down the menu for us. They even had cute merchandise to buy to support! The menu was extremely organized and plenty of indoor seating. Outdoor seating available as well but it was a little cold. Go with the old fashioned or the ogre!
google avatar

Greg L.

Yelp
Just had an I can't feel my face burger. It had a very good flavor. And yes it was spicy but not as bad as you would think. I would definitely recommend this food truck. Check out the online menu. A lot of different burgers to choose from. I would post a link on here , I'm not in charge of making sure you see it. LOL!!
google avatar

Neon D.

Yelp
Burgers were DELICIOUS. One of the best I've had in ages. Fries were also quite good. Good portion size for the price, a lot of options, and the service was fantastic. Food was prepared in just a few minutes. Will absolutely come again.

Maggie B.

Yelp
They are a bit pricey, but the food is delicious and the staff are friendly whether you are visiting them at Olde Mother or at their food truck. The PB burger is my favorite!
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
Service was fine to very good (it was a take out order). The burgers rocked and so did the setting. Live music on stage, next door to a popular brewery. But I was there for burgers half bacon and half local beef in a two patty smash burger nice crispy edges and then some fun, creative, local farm to table staples topping them. It was a heck of a burger- the peanut butter concoction was awesome. The poblano pepper deal very good. So glad I stopped.

Yoni E.

Yelp
I ordered the Old Fashioned Burger with a side of Onion Rings. Onion Rings were amazing, perfectly crispy. The burger toppings were sound but I didn't get much flavor out of the patty itself. It was still good though. I do have to say, I've encountered better burgers around Frederick.

Gigi C.

Yelp
Good food! Love the ambiance. Friendly service. Overall Better experience and lovely time. Would return
google avatar

Tracy J.

Yelp
Omg!! The burgers are so good! And their sweet potato fries is good too!! If I had room in my belly, I would order more burgers and fries! Lol

Sabine H.

Yelp
Their burgers are 50% pork. All their burgers. We dont eat pork. We didnt realize the content of their burgers until after we placed the order. We asked if they had anything non-pork to swap with. We got a "nope" from the employee. After reading the menu we asked to get all our burgers swapped with chicken patties. None of the chicken sandwiches received matched the "extras" orders we placed (lettuce/tomatoes/cheese)... To top it off, the chicken was inedible, and the mushrooms were still frozen on my sandwich. We did arrive right before closing. But i expected more. I literally wished I grabbed a chicken sandwich from mcdonalds!!!!instead of what i was eating.

Suz Z.

Yelp
Great burgers, onion rings and Old Bay seasoned fries, friendly service, inside Olde Mother Brewery - good beer and excellent Pinot Noir. These burgers are AMAZING! Incredible combinations suggested on the menu; or one may customize exactly as desired, with however many toppings one wants. They also offer chicken option and a meatless option - simple, succinct menu- that which they offer and prepare are all delicious! The old-fashioned burger is killer- bourbon molasses, caramelized onions, pickles, and cheese. One may add other toppings, gratis, if desired. this was perfect, as suggested. Their burgers are all 50/50 beef/bacon (except their meatless option). My dining companion had their PB PC burger - it includes peanut butter. I was shocked at idea of that combo; but it is incredibly popular! Everyone was raving about it! I had some - it IS GOOD! That old-fashioned one is tough to top! This place is great, reasonably priced and way better than the very expensive burger place in Leesburg.
google avatar

Kate L.

Yelp
Yesterday I picked up pretzels & beer cheese from Fifty-Fifty Burgers at Olde Mother. For $12 I got 2 small very firm pretzels & a huge container of beer cheese. Not great! Might want to stick to the burgers. Next time I'll pick up my pretzel from Pizza & Pretzel Creation in Frederick!

Cody R.

Yelp
Great burgers. Only complaint if any would be that the patties are too thin. Could easily eat two normal burgers. Great location, tons of space to eat and free parking at Grind and Gravel.
google avatar

Maria M.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible burgers! The specialty burgers are fantastic but my personal favorite is the she's my cherry pie burger. The herbed goat cheese is UNREAL! Thanks, Fifty Fifty!

D D.

Yelp
This truck rocks, makes great burgers and sides. The best thing is they are consistently good. I would recommend this food to any burger lover

Bediggety73 S.

Yelp
Burgers are tasty but pricey for what they are. Not very big and light on toppings. Onions rings are EXTREMELY greasy and a ridiculous $9.00, fries again good but nothing special normal sized for 5.00. Can of soda 3.00. Two people are out 50$$$ for a burgers and fries lunch with a side of grease indigestion. Guys working there are rather rude as well. There are way too many better options in Frederick to get a great meal with friendlier service for that price and not feel ripped off.
