"Fika Coffee is best enjoyed on the way back home from a trip up north. The coffee, which is roasted on-site, is balanced and strong, an ideal caffeine kick for powering through a long drive. Grab a bag of beans to bring home." - Justine Jones, Alex Lodner, Joy Summers

Yelp
We needed a pick me up for the long ride home, and we talked about it the whole way home. The maple latte iced will be something I dream about until I have one again. Wow.

Alaina S.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop with coffee drinks comparable to the cities. It's pretty tiny inside so it's more of a grab and go spot but it's worth a trip. The baristas are friendly and knowledgeable. It was pretty busy with a long line when we went but they handled everyone efficiently. And it was worth the wait. This is a must stop if you are in the Lutsen area!

Heather G.

Yelp
The coffee ordered tasted fine, staff was rude, shop is cute inside. Limited seating. Meh.

Jeremy S.

Yelp
This small coffee house in Lutsen Minnesota is very popular. Their coffee creations were very satisfying and deserve your business. They also roast their own coffee beans so they know what they are doing here. Although they sell what looked like locally made donuts, there is no other food options. The staff was friendly and very helpful to any questions you may have about your drinks.

Alyssa Y.

Yelp
We visited in a Sunday morning and it was packed. The line was out the door with people making their trek back home from a weekend up north. The line moved quickly and the customer service was top notch. All of the drinks are hand made so it will take a while yo get your drink. The space inside is very small so we opted to sit outside in the beautiful weather and watch as others came out so we knew when ours were likely next which worked out well. Our drinks were both very good. We got an iced mocha which was very chocolaty and a 704 which had the perfect amount of cardamom. Sometimes with independent coffee houses we are left wanting more flavor in the syrups but that def wasn't the case with Fika. If your up north, this place is worth the stop and the wait is the lines are a bit long.

Rachel C.

Yelp
The outside pulled me inward. I love this look. The inside was a bit more cold and unwelcoming. Not my favorite coffee or place. I ended up not even finishing my cup. This place just missed the mark for me.

Matt W.

Yelp
Some friends of friend's who love rare and good coffee turned us on to this place. The coffee is WORTH the stop! The dark roast is exceptional - they roast it on sight and the maple oat milk latte uses pure maple syrup from behind the store is delicious and unique! Very friendly staff! It's right off Highway 61.

Joe Y.

Yelp
Heading home from Grand Marais, we stopped in to get some coffee for the road. There was a line out the door, but it moved quickly. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes to get coffee, but it was worth it. The drinks were delicious and not overly sweet. Definitely stopping here again!

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop in Lutsen with good coffee. It was soooo busy when we went but that's to be expected with fall time in Lutsen. The staff still stayed on top of it & were friendly. I got the maple iced late. I wanted to try their can coffee they have in the fridge.

Dade D.

Yelp
Visited Lutzen on vacation. This is a must visit place. Cozy warm vibes (in the summer that is, I can't speak for the winter!) Nice staff, Awesome coffee.

Yelp
This trip up North was very late in the season for us and our visit was short but Fika was a must. Typically we are greeted with super friendly smile but the todays visit the clerk had three too many shots lol. I was not out off but the friend with me for the first time up North was, yet still loved my "hidden" gem of a coffee place and promised to return if in the area again. As always the atmosphere was/arty and inspiring towards togetherness

Lisa S.

Yelp
I found the perfect coffee spot for me on the North Shore. Fika Coffee roasts their own beans on Tue and Wed so they are closed those days. So bummed they are closed for the days I will be up here. The gentlemen running the place were so friendly to their guests. They had some regulars but the majority were out of town visitors like me. My latte was so good. Rich flavors, creamy milk, and nice and hot. There is only one small table in the place. I sat at the window bar so I was able to enjoy the beautiful sunny day and see the guests come and go. I do plan on going back to pick up a bag of their beans. Can wait til Thur when I can get another cup of their delicious coffee. See you right at 7am.

Michael F.

Yelp
More of a takeout than a sit down (but a few tables). Service was efficient. Bought some beans too and we've been enjoying them. An interesting place in the middle of the woods.

Stephanie A.

Yelp
A friend of mine recommended this coffee shop to me and I'm so glad they did! They have really friendly staff, great coffee with unique flavor options, and quality roasted beans. While Java moose is a classic, Fika will be a regular stop for me from now on!

Quentin M.

Yelp
Too Long; Didn't Read: Delicious coffee with a cause. Located in "downtown" Lutsen, Fika Coffee (pronounced fee-kah) is smack dab off Highway 61 next to some other great local businesses (the general store next door is amazing btw). Swedish for "coffee break," Fika is everything I want in a great cafe: Deliciously hand-crafted drinks (I especially love their Iced Maple Latte), locally sourced ingredients, great merchandise (including local art) and excellent service (on our first trip last month, the staff learned our names after the first visit) This easily rivals nearly all the coffee shops I've been to in Minneapolis and St. Paul and unlike many in the Twin Cities, it's actually open early (7 a.m.) Now for the best part: Their Sisu Coffee Project, a partnership with The Java Moose in Grand Marais and Hoaglund Designs, raises money for the Cook County communities hit hard by the pandemic. Ten dollars from every bag goes to provide groceries, rental assistance, diapers and more. They recently added food to their menu, and by the looks of it, it'll be a must-to-order on my next trip.

Christina E.

Yelp
Decent chai if you like it without a lot of spice. Boyfriend had the maple latte and it was good but not sweet enough for him. We love supporting local and would definitely recommend trying this place.

Maria A.

Yelp
Some of the best chai I've ever had, it also has this super cute mural on the outside! The salted caramel ice cream taste exactly like those chewy caramels. The only thing I will say is it's super small inside and when it's busy, it feels too cramped.

Abigail E.

Yelp
You must get a glazed donut - it was easily top three donuts I've ever had. I don't normally like cake donuts but this one was incredible. We got coffee to go too. Overall a great place. Very minimal seating so I wouldn't plan to hangout there.

Colby S.

Yelp
The best place in the North Shore for coffee. We make a point to come in every morning whenever we visit. Coffee is always fresh and tasty. There can some times be a line but it's always worth the wait! Highly recommend the vanilla latte; iced in the summer and hot in the winter!

Bill B.

Yelp
I had an espresso which I did not care for the taste and I also had a maple latte for the road which I enjoyed very much and well as I purchased a pound of their North Shore Blend which I highly recommend. Service was friendly and efficient.

Kiara B.

Yelp
I went here in October with my dad and it was good! We had a trip along the north shore with the entire family and we were looking for a close coffee place. If you like chocolate the mochas are definitely for you! If you are looking more for coffee with a underlying flavor the maple latte is for you. Overall nice people and love what fika stands for!

Kal J.

Yelp
I got the cardamom latte, and, while I discovered I don't like cardamom lattes, I could tell that this one was well made! The coffee itself was excellent quality, and I appreciated that it wasn't sweetened! It was also ready super fast given how busy they were. Super cute on the inside, can't wait to be back!

Brian S.

Yelp
This is a cute little coffee roaster located right off of 61 in Lutsen, about 20 minutes south of Grand Marais. They offer a pretty large menu of coffee drinks, although, sadly, no pour-overs (just batch brew and espresso). The real star of this place, IMO, is their coffee beans. There were at least 10 different roasts on the shelf (including 2 types of decaf), and it was hard to choose one. When you do choose one, be sure to get your free drip coffee. As for their coffee drinks, the prices are reasonable and service is fast. Parking is easy right out front. I hope they can get back to pour-overs (or another type of freshly made drip) soon, as it's really their only weakness.

Mike W.

Yelp
First of all, I'm not a coffee snob. I can't tell the difference between a venti and a macchiato - or an americano and a tall. Staying in the Lutsen area, I knew there wasn't much around, but happened to find this coffee shop on yelp. Wasn't quite sure what to expect at first - a lot of times when I go to a locally owned coffee shop and order an iced coffee, i get a blank stare. Thankfully upon coming here, they knew exactly what I wanted. While I was waiting for my coffee, i was watching them roast the beans in the other room. Quite impressive considering most of the places I usually get coffee, it comes out of a plastic bag pre-roasted in some remote location. Nice vibe in this place. Were I not itching to get on the road, I'd probably have stuck around for a little bit.

Alyssa K.

Yelp
We had to stop by Fika coffee to check it out since it is named after a Swedish Tradition! The two guys working were friendly and engaging. I got the Merriment Mocha which was very tasty and not overly sweet (which I often find with Mochas in general.) Luke got a Maple Latte that is made with local Maple syrup. I also really appreciated that they made our coffee in the mugs we brought in. Very few coffee shops will do that anymore! We will definitely be making many stops here again as we come to the north shore area fairly often!!

Lincoln P.

Yelp
Visiting from the cities - we didn't see many options for a good latte online prior to coming. We saw Fika nearby and gave it a shot. Roasting all their beans fresh on-site was the first green flag followed by the la marzocco espresso machine. I got a classic vanilla latte and the creamy mix of perfectly steamed milk, fresh espresso and vanilla was debatably as good or better than Spyhouse in Minneapolis. We went back a second day and a different person made our drinks and they were still SOOOO GOOD. Wow! What a treat to have such a craft coffee shop this far north! Highly recommend. They have Oat Milk and all those options for people needing or wanting those options.

Stefano D.

Yelp
Stopped by on our way to Grand Marais--knowing that options in Grand Marais are not spectacular. Coffee is a 3 day a week purchase or more; so we tend to have high expectations. The shop is clean, small, and minimalist. The baristas were friendly and knowledgeable. The coffee was very good. We've been to most spots along the North Shore, and I would say easily this is the best coffee. Well done!

Mel S.

Yelp
Perfect place to pick up some fresh beans for home and also grab a cup of coffee to go with The World's Best Donut for the road!

Joe I.

Yelp
Been here a few times over the past two years when in the area for vacation with the family. Great staff, delicious coffee. I had a red tea with honey and cinnamon for the first time and liked it so much had it again the very next day. If I lived in the area, I would be a regular here for sure. Recommend.

Madelaine K.

Yelp
Elegant clean coffee shop with well made coffee. We enjoyed the options of oat or almond milk outside of the standard cow cream/ milk for creamer. In a seasonal tourist region, we are grateful for someone's labor of love of tasty coffee.

David S.

Yelp
Likely one of my favorite coffee shops I've ever been to. The graphics were spot on, the meaning behind the name is appealing, and the local support they provide is contagious. All that and their coffee is some of the tastiest, well-brewed morning mud I've ever had. I very much enjoyed their creativity in their specialty drinks and the service was very polite, patient, and attentive.

Ann R.

Yelp
We were traveling along the coast of superior and we love to stop at hidden gems and this was simply amazing. One of the best lattes and cappuccino I've had in a very very long time. They even have OAT milk! That's the only milk I get anymore and they blew this out of the park. Such an amazing coffee shop and I'm so happy we stumbled upon this little shop. The inside is small but perfect because their coffee is simply amazing.

Melissa E.

Yelp
Outstanding little gem on the north shore My double espresso cappuccino was scrumptious. We got 5 coffees and it was a little spendy but worth it.

Little S.

Yelp
Good coffee. Not a huge varieties of lattes. Their signature maple latte is pretty good. No food items other than chocolate bar for sale.

Shannon A.

Yelp
A little slice of third wave coffee heaven on the North Shore! The staff is knowledgeable and excited about what they're doing, with the added plus of being down to earth and friendly.

Nicole B.

Yelp
Whoever the guy who was working the espressos bar and the woman running the cash register were so rude. We bought $60 worth of coffee and you would think we were a huge nuisance. I asked if they had a 2xl sweatshirt and the guy behind the bar made a snarky remark that they don't carry sizes that big. I couldn't believe how rude they were. Not even a smile. The younger girl working the bar was nice, but we'll be buying beans from anyone but them in the future. Not very "Fika" of you Fika Coffee--if you understood the sense of the word. Also, the iced coffee they made tasted like crap.

Josue P.

Yelp
Really cool place to have conversations and wifi to do some work, cool baristas, clean and cozy.

Kristina T.

Yelp
I was looking forward to this coffee shop after reading glowing reviews and seeing gorgeous photos of immaculate lattes. I still had high hopes after observing the staff apparently get overwhelmed and mix up the queue of orders. My first disappointment was that my expectation of getting my latte in a "for here" cup was dashed when I was handed my latte in a to-go paper cup. This is definitely a first world problem and I am probably spoiled by all of the artisanal cafes in the Twin Cities, but after paying almost $6 for a latte I was not expecting a paper cup since they definitely had actual cups at the counter. There is only seating for about 8 people, so maybe they are trying to discourage people from lingering? I had planned on staying, but since I had a long drive ahead of me to get home I decided to just head out after getting my drink since it was in a to-go cup and all. The actual thing to pull my experience into "meh" category was that I ordered the maple latte. I don't know how but the whole thing was very bland. I couldn't detect any maple flavor nor really any espresso flavor either?? This led to some irrational speculation that maybe one flavor cancelled out the other and I was left with a cup of hot flavorless liquid. If I had drank it there I probably would have requested for it to be remade.

Emily P.

Yelp
The BEST lattes! We consider ourselves to be a bit picky when it comes to coffee and this place did not disappoint. We got a maple latte with oat milk- so so creamy and not overly sweet, and a vanilla latte. Definitely make a stop of you are driving by!

Casey K.

Yelp
My family and I were planning a trip to Lutsen when we heard about Fika Coffee. We were very excited to try this Swedish custom. We went to Fika Coffee our first morning in Lutsen. My dad and sister had a cappuccino and I'm not a coffee guy, so I got a hot chocolate, it was a little bitter, and a little sweet. The best hot chocolate I have ever had. Cute shop, great coffee, and very nice people

Raymond P.

Yelp
Craft coffee that could fit in back in my home of downtown Denver. Get the maple latte.

Shana C.

Yelp
The service, coffee, hot chocolate, ice cream, clean and cozy atmosphere was a great stop on our way to the Boundary Waters. Definitely recommended!!!

Dani N.

Yelp
You have to appreciate the Swedish custom of fika (or German kaffee und kuchen, British high tea, etc.) to truly understand the beauty of Fika Coffee. In American culture we've placed too high an importance on the speed at which we can order and be drinking a coffee, latte, or whatever. This attitude does not lend itself to the best taste or experience. We were driving through and I wanted a coffee before we entered the BWCA. Google located Fika Coffee and I'm so glad. I had an amazing latte - no bitterness, perfect espresso shot. Superb. A few days later upon our departure Fika was our first stop in civilization. I had an affogato (espresso over ice cream) with locally made salted caramel ice cream that was out of this world. My husband had an iced latte which was also wonderful. If you desire a great coffee experience, kind people, and a clean, beautiful space stop at Fika the next time you're near Lutsen! And look for their coffee beans - out of this world!!

Halley K.

Yelp
The guys were wonderful. They made our coffee with care and extra kick for us because we had a big day shooting a wedding that day. The store was cute too!

Sandy O.

Yelp
Fika Coffee is a small, locally owned artisanal coffee roaster with a new coffee shop in Lutsen. Artfully created space and fabulous coffee. My decaf Americano was wonderful, as was the cardamom bun. We had a bag of beans ground to enjoy during our stay at the big lake. A lovely addition to Lutsen. Fika (pronounced "fee-ka") is Swedish for coffee break. Very Swedish designed space and presentation. From all of us in MN with Swedish roots - nicely done! It's just down the road from Lutsen Resort -- "Founded in 1885 by Swedish immigrant Charles Axel Nelson, Lutsen Resort is Minnesota's oldest resort."

Mike C.

Yelp
We prefer when the focus is on the coffee, and that is what we found at fika. We had the latte, which had a rich taste and velvety texture. Given the flavor we'd do the cappuccino next time. They also roast beans wholesale, and we had a nice visit with owner while he accepted the day's delivery of beans. The chocolate muffin paired well, a quaint place. The tip is built in to the price and they use square. Also a nice restroom!

Logan V.

Yelp
Don't let the outside fool you as a trading post style vibe, they have the best Iced Mocha's I've ever tasted. They use some sort of chocolate powder, and the price of 6.80 is so worth the amazing goodness of this drink. The staff are friendly, the one bathroom is clean, and plenty of space to soak up a mocha, coffee or drink of your choice. To anyone visiting the north shore this is a great spot for an early morning pick me up, not to be missed! P.S. I'm sporting the FIKA COFFEE shop sticker on my suitcase as an airline pilot. People will know about this place :)

Susan B.

Yelp
Great to have a place to get great coffee near Lutsen. Iced and hot lattes, Americanos & other favorites plus an assortment of teas & pastries (scones etc.). Highly recommend!

Ariel R.

Yelp
Best coffee between Duluth and Thunder Bay! We stopped in after a long two days of traveling and it felt like reaching the oasis in a desert. Beautiful decor, fresh ground beans, warm, friendly service and most importantly great coffee. This will now be our go to spot when make the drive north!

Kevin E.

Yelp
3 plus dollars for a small drip coffee. Give me a break. Tastes good but we're not drinking champaign..
