Went to this butcher thinking they would have great cuts of meat. Was extremely disappointed. I purchased 2lbs of chuck roast for $50 just for the meat to be mostly a giant chuck of hard inedible fat. I cannot believe I paid $50 for less than a pound of edible meat. Will not be coming back here again.

My favorite meat shop in San Diego. Everything is outstanding, but the brisket in particular is excellent. Highly recommend.

I original found this shop online looking for butchers in my area and I’m glad I did. I’ve been there several times and they are my go to shop for stocking my freezer. Each time I am greeted by Lexi who is a very nice and helpful young lady. My wife and I love everything we have tried so far including the pork and beef brats, the ground chuck, ground round, beef roast, and I can’t forget the bacon!!! The beef roast honestly is the best I’ve ever tasted, tender and very flavorful, the bacon (I flat pan bake at 400 for 25 minutes) and is so delicious it makes me crave for more. After buying these types of meat products at the grocery store for so long I forgot what real beef is supposed to taste like. I would highly recommend trying their products you will be delighted.

First off, I walked in and saw no masks. I knew in that moment this would be a fine meat establishment. One gentleman recommended the brats as well as recipes to go with it. The owner himself shook my hand and genuinely thanked me for my business. If you’re looking for a family-owned small-town butcher shop with quality product, this is your place. Highly recommend. Will visit every time I have the opportunity.

OUTSTANDING. WE TRAVEL 30mi from Imperial Beach to get the best to come here. You can taste the difference. Filhart beef goes above and beyond when it comes to customer service. The owner and his wife greeted us when entering the business. This is what small business is about and when it comes to beef this is the flagship of beef in southern California.

Ok, I am a steak snob and was skeptical about this place (as I am with all) when a coworker recommended it to me. But, I'll always try it once. Prices were on par with Australian/American Wagyu (but isn't actually Wagyu beef AFAIK), so the prices made me even more doubtful. I took home two ribeyes after carefully sifting through the cuts to find the ones with the marbling and fat caps that appealed to me. I also tried a New York a couple of weeks later. So, the verdict... Astonishingly this is the best beef I've ever purchased from a store myself, and consequently the best steak I've ever had as a home cooked meal. I was just in disbelief at how rich they were, how easily the fat melted, and just the flavor of the beef. Could not believe it. I don't know how... but this was notably better than any Prime/Dry-Aged Prime or American and Australian Wagyu I've had at home (and I've cooked hundreds). With every bite, I literally sat there like, "WTF did I just eat?" (in a good way). Could not believe it. I trimmed a bit of the fat cap off each steak, saved it, and have used the fat to make awesome fried rice, sauteed vegetables, and hash fries. Unfortunately, I can't afford to make every steak I eat a Filhart steak, but I will never buy meat anywhere else when I want to give myself and my family/guests the best steak experience at home.

Best beef in San Diego... maybe in all of southern Cal! Michigan farmed and grass fed... raised and sold by one family of cowboys. Great cuts... great service! Pairs well with Barrel Riot wines!

The best quality meat from good ol' USA raised fresh in Michigan on a family farm. Doesn't get any better that that!

Excellent choice of meats. Picked out some Ribeyes and Flank Steak. The ribeyes had a nice marble and turned out delicious. I will be back again to purchase more.

Beef is very good; the price, however, is above the range for (retail) grass-fed beef published by the USDA. In short, it is overpriced.

I accidentally entered through the alley into the back door. I was shocked when the man asked me. What was I doing in there and I asked him what he doing in here and I started laughing and I told him I was looking to buy beef I went in the wrong door. He ended up being so nice and I was able to get all the meats I've cooked the ribeyes and they are too die for.I think this is a good place to go to buy your meats

Beef. Based on the sources you can have amazing meals and absolute pleasure. This is the case with Filhart Beef. Good beef is delicious and nutritious with cows that had a nice life roaming freely. When you get your meat from Filhart, they are providing sources from the family farm on Michigan. The beef is so good, it needs very little seasoning! DELIGHTFUL!

We bought a boneless prime rib roast. About 4 pounds. We just thawed it out and put on charcoal grill. I have grilled hundreds of steaks/ribeyes. We cut it in half and got 2 - 2-1/2 inch ribeyes. This was the best damn prime rib I ever had. Even better than some high end steak houses from here to Las Vegas.

What an excellent meat shop with beef & pork options! Walked in during the Saturday farmers market & was greeted with a warm welcome & quick explanation about the meat. Bought some beef jerky sweet & spicy, very delicious & fresh tasting. On the tad bit expensive at $10 but would buy as a treat again. Also decided on some stew meat & a sirloin steak. Just cooked up the sirloin steak with salt & pepper, it was fantastic, flavorful & restaurant quality. It would be nice if they had a larger sign with the prices and maybe a weekly special deal. Highly recommend trying this Poway gem. Support local businesses!

Great little local meat shop! Some of the most amazing beef I've purchased. Knowing it comes from a family farm, organic and hormone free, is icing on the cake. I do think it is a bit pricey, but would not hesitate going back for a special occasion.

Best quality Beef in San Diego, grass fed grain finished beef, i wont be purchasing my beef anywhere else after trying this.

Had a bone in Rib Roast from Filhart tonight....unreal!! The cut, the flavor, the texture of the beef, really solid all around. We did let it thaw out overnite. Cooked in the over in a cast iron pan. 5 stars is an understatement!!

I've driven four hours to my old meat market up north that serve excellent quality meats. Needless to say, I moved to San Diego at the beginning of the year. We searched the entire country for a meat market that compares to my meat market back at my old place. Then it happens, I'd heard of Filhart Beef. A small place but a very family affair atmosphere that is very inviting. Shop owners gave details of the family business and why it's so successful. T Bones, Rib Eye, Beef ribs and Hamgerburber meat. All were excellent cuts of meats. I was very impressed and now a recurring customer.

Good but insanely expensive. Two frozen rib eyes cost $102. This was around 3 pounds of meat.

Excellent meat. The New York strips seared perfectly. I plan for making the 1/3lb burgers this weekend after soccer. I look forward to trying their other cuts, and their Friday burger night at the local wine bar. Grilled beef goes great with a robust red.

If you like steaks and good beef you must try this place! I never thought beef could taste vastly better but this does. The Filhart family obviously puts heart and soul into raising these cattle. Cannot go wrong with any of their cuts. Highly recommend giving it a try, it's worth the money!

Just ate some of their 1/2 lb patties and wow they were delicious!! The whole family loved them. We will be coming here for more of their delicious meat! So nice to have a great meat store so close here in Poway!

Great beef and pork. Solid family owned place and glad that they are there. Burger night every 3rd Friday of the month at Mission Cellars with Filhart Beef is awesome. Great addition to the area, one of the only places we get meat from!

Two words: excellent quality. Filhart Beef has instantly become a household favorite of ours. Personal faves: jerky (sweet & spicy), skirt steak, flap and ground beef... just to make a few. Meat quality is terrific, I bought the bone-in short rib just to see what it'd be like and was very impressed by how it turned out. Talked to the shop owner who gave some background on where the meat comes from, which is a farm owned by his family so for sure he knows where his supply comes from and can vouch for it! Going to get some oxtail next, since I'm expanding my recipes to the non-steak cuts at the moment. There's plenty of steak cuts too which I will be making my way to.

This is my only go to for top quality beef. Family owned and ran which makes it that much better!

You'll find Filhart Beef in Old Poway across the street from the train station. All the meat is vacuum packed and frozen. My first purchase was 1/3 lb. hamburger patties. Try their meat without making a big investment, right? The hamburger was really good. Next, I bought a N.Y. Strip. Cooked it last night on the grill. It was delicious! Great flavor and tender. Got up this morning and my wife says, "I'm thinking about the steak we had last night. That was really good. She isn't a foodie so for her to comment on a meal she had the day before is surprising. I'll be going back to try other cuts. Might be expensive but the beef is well marbled and......well worth it.

Best steak I have ever had was Filhart's. Incredible quality meats that melt in your mouth! I've been to many high end steak restaurants and nothing compares to Filhart beef in the San Diego area. Thank you for your world class beef and treating your guest like family.

Family owned and raised beef on a farm run over generations. Doesn't get more "city in the country" than that. This is exactly what this town needs. The kindest people and the highest quality beef with no hormones you'll ever find. You get what you pay for right here. The toughest cuts to come from a cow will cut better than the best cuts bought anywhere else. This is real beef. You need a piece of meet off a cow, they got it. Also carry some of the best pork you'll taste. If you don't think so let me know and I'll teach you how to grill or smoke it.

The BEST beef I have ever had. What a great small business to support. I bought a filet here that was big enough for two people, for way less than I would pay in a high end restaurant. The filet was out of this world delicious. I just stopped in today and got a beautiful roast for the crock pot. Go support these people, they are their product are awesome!

We get beef bones for our dog & bought the rib eye steaks the other day. Just cooked them up......holy mama...the flavor is absolutely incredible. (Could be how I cook. Haha)... My husband said the flavor reminded him of us growing up in Washington state & how good the beef was. This is that good. Nothing added, nothing processed. Well above the quality that Bischers ever had. Highly recommend this place, plus the people are awesome.
