This counter-service barbecue joint smokes meats daily inside a 1930s Texaco station—history you can taste on the patio. Spotlighted by city dining guides and downtown organizations, it delivers burnt ends, ribs, and old-school sides with a distinctly Lee’s Summit story.

BBQ was very good but a little pricey. burnt end dinner with beans and potato salad was $26.99, Burnt end sandwich and fries $16.99. Actually more food than in the picture, I ate a bit before I took the photo😀 very nice atmosphere. Will definitely go back.

We came to the KC area to see the attractions and have some great BBQ. After a full day of touring, we headed to Lee’s Summit Main Street shopping area and saw the cute Filling Station BBQ. It was hot so we were concerned about having to sit outside but once inside there were several tables to sit and it was cool…the temp was cool and the gas station nostalgia on the walls were cool! We ordered Burnt End sandwich and Brisket Sandwiches. Both had excellent smoke flavor while tender and juicy on a fresh artisan bun. There were 4 Sauces - Vinegar, KC Original, Sweet and Hot. We found original to be best accompaniment. We were offered a taste test of the sides prior to ordering and both the potato salad and broccoli salad had a fresh homemade taste. Our orders came out quickly and the host/ cashier came by to offer drink refills. We were completely satisfied and fueled up for more sightseeing after dining at The Filling Station.

Google
This is such a cool spot in downtown Lees Summit. It’s a must try! I came here as part of BBQ tour around KC and tried the brisket sandwich with onion rings. I sat outside and loved the smell of the smoke coming off of the smoker! They use a hickory wood. The brisket had a nice smoke ring. Very little fat on the sandwich. The sandwich comes with sauce on the side which I appreciate! The brisket was a little dry and didn’t have much of a smoke flavor. The onion rings were good! They’re hand battered and then seasoned with a dry BBQ season once fried. I dipped them in the homemade ranch, which didn’t disappoint! The menu looked fantastic and definitely worth a visit when shopping in downtown Lees Summit!

Google
A fun little place. Everything was great. I had sliced brisket, sausage, beans and fries. The beans, while not my favorite, were good. I know it's subjective, so I'm still giving 5 stars.

Burnt ends, brisket were juicy and flavorful. Sauce was runny n average. Could be thicker n more flavorful

The Filling Station catered an event on short notice (2 days) and did a phenomenal job. The food was awesome and service top notch. Jenny, who made it happen, was wonderful to work with. She was professional, efficient, genuine, and kind. The event was a memorial gathering for a recent death in our family. It was such a relief to make two calls and everything was taken care of. Thank you Filling Station crew and especially Miss Jenny. God bless…

Genni met with us twice while we sorted out our menu and number of guests for the Celebration of Life for my friends wife. She provided helpful suggestions making it a very smooth process. The food was excellent and delivered and set up nice and warm. We had lots of compliments on the food. So, I expect they will have many more customers. It's now my new go-to spot for barbecue.

Google
This is a small business with an enormous taste! The turkey was juicy. The fries great! Beans on point. The brisket is smoked perfectly. The burnt ends are the best I have had in the city. I love KC BBQ. Eat it all over the city. This so place makes it hard to go anywhere else! I keep ordering from this location and it tastes as good as the first time. I order a large meal thinking I’ll have some for the next day and every time I eat it all in one sitting. Give this wonderful place a try the service is always great!

Yelp
Today was my second time coming back to this place, I usually don't judge a place until my second or third visit so I can see the consistency! This place is a really good little BBQ restaurant from what I have had. Their prices are running fairly average I would say for their options, and the staff is very friendly! It's great to see a small business thriving and serving up good bbq. The first time I had their normal pulled pork sandwich which was good, and a side of potato salad which was fairly good (3.5/5). The potato salad was a bit eggy for my liking but that's just preference and it was still a very solid potato salad. Today I had the Carolina pulled pork sandwich which was very good! I'm from the south and it reminded me of bbq back home I. That they put vinegar coleslaw on top of the bbq. The only thing that I'd recommend changing is maybe consider making in house sweet tea? Overall though this is a very good little bbq restaurant!

Yelp
I am pretty picky when it comes to pork, this place exceeded my expectations. I would come back here again! The food came out pretty quickly maybe 15 minutes of waiting. We originally went here to sit inside because online said it didn't close until 9pm, when we got there to order they advise that they closed at 8pm which would have been 20 minutes till 8pm, so we decided to take our food to-go as I did not want to be rushed. She was super nice and even asked if we were sure.

Yelp
Nice little barbecue joint. The inside is decked out as a diner on the inside in the shell of a gas station. I enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich, I'm excited to try other items in the future. Service was incredibly quick from my online order. I ordered right before driving to get it and they were packing my food just as I walked in.

Yelp
It's Saturday night and we stop here for dinner. The outside of the building looks like an old gas station. As soon as you walk in, you can smell the delicious BBQ. We ordered a full slab of ribs with coleslaw and baked beans. We sat at a table in the corner and admire the deco on the wall. It's a cute place; A dive with old fashion diner feel to the place. The BBQ was delicious. Service was great. I definitely would come back here again.

Yelp
Food was dry and cold. Would def recommend going elsewhere. There was one other couple there that already had food yet it still took 10+ minutes for anyone to process our order. Beans tasted like they were can-to-plate.

Yelp
This was a great spot to stop while we were shopping in downtown Lee's Summit. Atmosphere is fun (old filling station), and food was fresh. I had a sausage sandwich and a side of potato salad and enjoyed them both. We'll keep them in mind when we return to town!

Yelp
I have been wanting to try Filling Station BBQ for awhile since we moved to Lee's Summit last summer. I had friends in town so figured we could stop by for a quick lunch before they headed out. So glad we did! I had the smoked turkey sandwich and we shared sweet potatoes fries. The fries were so good and so was the sandwich. The ambiance of the old gas station is so cute! We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful day. The lady that helped us and took our order was so nice and friendly. Definitely reccomend stopping in and supporting this local business!!

Yelp
Just left and I was super impressed on how fast and tasty our food was. The staff were incredibly nice and checked on us while we sat there. Will definitely be coming back with the rest of the family soon.

Yelp
A cool little renovated old school gas station with 8 tables inside and patio seating. I had a 1/2 slab plate with slaw and fries for $16. The sides were pretty basic but I did enjoy the ribs. The six bones had a nice flavorful dry rub and smoked well. Meat was tender and plentiful. All sauce was kept in bottles at the table for adding at your preference - perfect. I barely used any sauce for the ribs, but the 4 varieties were great for fry dipping. They each had a strong presence of celery salt/seed. Overall a solid and respectable offering but not moving into my top 20 for KC BBQ joints.

Yelp
We love the filling station. Best BBQ in LS in my opinion. I always order a pulled pork sandwich with sweet potatoes fries. They have the best fries. Highly recommend. The food is always made fast and service is kind. They have seating inside and out which is nice too.

Shannon C.

Yelp
The burnt ends are by far the tastiest and non-fatty pieces of meat that I can't get enough of. Best I've ever had! The homemade ranch is sooo good too. Pair these things with the owners/staff quality attitude and service - I'm addicted!

Yelp
Friendly service and good barbecue in downtown Lee's Summit. We enjoy coming here when we get a chance because of the dog friendly patio. The food is good - probably not on the same level as the BBQ at Joe's or Jack Stack, but it's a step or two above Gates. The old gas station and theming make it sort of fun too.

Ryan 8.

Yelp
Always a great experience here. Love the beef brisket . Great customer service and great food. Thanks always for the extra pickles

Yelp
Great BBQ concept in downtown Lee's Summit. The 2 meat (brisket & burnt ends) sandwich was pretty good. The ribs, in my opinion, not as good, especially when comparing to KC Joes, Meat Mitch, Q39, etc. If you are in or near downtown Lee's Summit & wanting bbq it's a decent place if you want the best bbq head to some of the aforementioned bbq joints. Decent not great bbq especially in Kansas City

Yelp
This place has existed here for quite a while now. The ambiance is great. The decor inside and out fits the theme well. We were greeted by a friendly new staff member who took our order. It was nice outside so we decided to eat out there. Our food was brought to us by a different person. I'm not sure if it was the owner/manager or just another experienced staff member. He honestly ruined the experience for me, by completely dogging on the new guy who took our order. He treated it in a super unprofessional unnecessary way saying that he doesn't know what he's doing, he's not learning well, etc.. complaints. The food (cooked by this guy) was mid. I had a brisket sandwich and sweet potato fries. This was the DRIEST damn sandwich I had ever had. The meat was clearly old and left out. The fries were okay. The rest of our table ordered 2 other dry brisket sandwiches, regular fries (which were forgotten and brought out later), and a burnt end sandwich. This bbq does not reflect KC bbq taste & quality whatsoever.... Honestly I would rather go to Gates next time.

Kristy W.

Yelp
Mother's day lunch. I had the Carolina pulled pork sandwich. The food was hot and good. The staff was very tentative to our needs. Will be back for sure.

Yelp
I would skip this place. Was outside and they decided to mow and blow dust everywhere it was horrible. Picked a great time and the guy wouldnt stop blowing dust everywhere, Food: Had the Chicken. One of the things I cannot stand is charcoal lighter fluid smell and taste in any food. I had the taste in my mouth for hours. Made me sick to my stomach. On top of that it was cold. sweet potato fries were dark brown to black no resemblance of a sweet potato. The burnt ends were very good = the only thing we had that was good! beans were doctored canned beans. I just read another review on this and would have skipped it if I had known. Cannot stand anyone BBQ that doctors beans specially this obvious. I really feel sorry for some places that get it this wrong. The people were nice and great decorations thats about all the good I can say. Been here before many years ago but could not remember why we never returned, happened be in the area so tried it and now we know why.....

Yelp
We had seen the Filling Station Barbecue the last time we were in Lee's Summit, and the reviews were generally pretty good, so we thought we'd give it a try. The interior of this little place has great ambiance with 40s and 50s décor and period furniture. That's when things went downhill. We ordered two regular sandwiches and two sides (French fries and cole slaw), and we were dumbfounded by the $27.50 bill. They even charged us fifty cents for water! On top of that, the food was just chokingly salty. The smallish sandwiches were heavily salted and the fries were so salty they were almost inedible. It was just horrible. I felt almost like I had a sodium overdose. The staff were fairly nice, but if I'm going to spend $27.50 I'll go to someplace with better (and more) food next time. This was our first and last trip to the Filling Station BBQ, which is too bad. With reasonable prices and restraint on the salt, the place might be acceptable. It sure wasn't when we visited.

Yelp
If you're ever in Lee's Summit, this is a charming spot to hit with solid BBQ. I was in love with the place from the moment I saw the converted old-school gas station. The mid-century Americana decor is awesome. Overall the food is average by Kansas City standards but that doesn't mean you can't have a great meal. Here's what I ordered. Ribs - Marvelous flavor. The right consistency in that they are tender but don''t just flop off the bone. They're the older style and still have the knuckle/rib tip on the end which I enjoy when it's done this well. Burnt Ends - Just cubed beef, they're good but not a true Kansas City brisket burnt end Pulled Pork - A little too dry for my taste Chicken - great flavor but once again a little dry Sausage - Really nice smoky flavor, just a well made sausage that I would order again. Beans - Fantastic, on the sweeter side but with nice chunks of meat and great flavor. Potato Salad - Incredibly fresh and wonderful. I could taste the individual ingredients to know that it was made from scratch with high quality ingredients. Sauces - Are good and I appreciate that this spot doesn't over sauce their meats. They use a nice dry rub and let you sauce to your liking. Overall, I would return for the ribs, sausage, sides, the ladies who run the joint, and the building itself. I would not order the pulled pork again.

Yelp
love this place. Vibes are good. food is great, the burnt ends were very good!!! The lady that helped me was so sweet and helpful. 10/10 recommend this place.

Yelp
Solid BBQ joint Got my usual pulled pork sandwich with beans with brisket and burnt ends. Pulled pork was really good, almost didn't need sauce. Brisket was great with long cut strips and burnt ends were a treat! The only thing is they sprinkled some rub on which basically tasted like taco seasoning. It was not bad but I would have preferred to be asked because I would have preferred it on the side or not at all. Beans were average. 4 kinds of sauces, regular which is vinegar based, then original was the best, then sweet and hot. Great green decor, my favorite color. Definitely want to come back here and try their brownies!

Yelp
As a first timer that ran a BBQ restaurant in Connecticut , I enjoy my bbq, as I walked in the smokiness aroma of the meats filled the air . I must say it smelled great , reminded me of home. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich , the meat was tender juicy and full of flavor , I'm a sweet sauce woman , n I must say it tasted exactly like I used to make . It was fantastic and I will be back ! Friendly staff !

Yelp
I love the family atmosphere eating outside. They were friendly. Another great BBQ joint. I like the small-town-feel DQ caddy-corner away.
google avatar

Yelp
Passing by and thought I would try it out. I have done BBQ competition for three years and I am also a KCBS BBQ judge. Ordered a premium basket with brisket and fries. Also got a side order of baked beans. I expected, for $15 a larger sandwich but it was a standard sized hamburger bun with skimpy meat. The brisket was not tender and the fries were over seasoned. The beans were great and the sauce was as well. Maybe it was just an off day but I have never had an off day at Joes or Jack Shack. On the other hand the place was decorated fantastic and the atmosphere was as well.
google avatar

Brendon L.

Yelp
I am mixed on this. The atmosphere is cool and it is off the road in a neighborhood which I like. The food was good. Brisket was tender as expected. The issue here was the price. I did two meats (sausage and brisket), so a half pound with two sides and a drink and the bill was nearly $30 for just me. Now I had some leftovers, but probably will not return at these prices.
google avatar

Richard E.

Yelp
Meat was way to dry. Sides small and nothing out of the ordinary. Absolutely no masks on anyone working there when I went in.
google avatar

Christopher F.

Yelp
Quite literally an old filling station, they know how to do bbq. We had a mixed platter of meats and some fries. All of their sauces are really good too. We ordered Turkey but the sent out chicken instead. They rapidly replaced with the correct item
google avatar

Yelp
We tried it for the first time yesterday and it didn't disappoint. We actually went back for lunch today. Yesterday I had the half a rack with potato salad and baked beans. My husband had ribs, pulled pork, cold slaw and baked beans. The portion sizes are perfect. The food was fabulous. I loved the sweet barbecue sauce and my husband loves the regular sauce. The staff is friendly and it's a short wait. The decor is very fun and it's a great place to relax with friends on their outdoor seating once restaurants are allowed to hade outdoor dining again. Today with tried pulled pork sandwiches with baked beans and fried pickles. Totally loved the flavor. I would highly recommend checking this place out.
google avatar

Melissa T H.

Yelp
Such a fun lunch here! Kind service, historic-retro cool decor and excellent Smokey Joe's sandwich (chopped mix of turkey, ham & beef) on a super soft bun. The baked beans are yummy though a little sweeter than I like (my son devoured them!) and hubby and I also enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich. And to top off the nostalgia, the free refill of red cream soda put us all in a happy happy mood. They deliver within 5 miles too.
google avatar

Jim H.

Yelp
Stopped in today for lunch. It's a very nostalgic restaurant with old images and signs. This place has been around Lees Summit for a long time and I give them a try about once each year. I guess I keep hoping the food move beyond OK. Today I had the burnt ends dinner with two sides (beans and slaw). The beans are above average, slaw below average and the burnt ends average. Meal plus small drink $18.37! To date, the turkey is still the best item they offer.
google avatar

Yelp
What is it with KC BBQ and gas stations? I love this location and it being in a historic blg (gas station) and they have done a great job turning it into a fun place to get BBQ. The food is good and getting better. It was good and then sort of dropped off and then there was a new owner. I had not been here for a while. I can say the food and the service are.much better then before. Last time in I ordered the rib plate and was asked if I wanted babybacks or spare ribs. I asked if he thought one was better than the other. He said he really liked the babybacks for the flavor but like how much meat there was on the spareribs. So I ordered the babybacks and got spare ribs. No worries I like those as well. Have to say they were cooked just right but I would have liked more smoke on the meat. I ordered a Coke and got a Diet Coke. That is a problem so I said something and it was replaced in an instant. After that all was good. Good spot that I think will continue to get better.

Yelp
Don't fall for this trap. I wish I could review the food, but after watching the two old angry scalawags run around the kitchen dropping food and slithering their sweaty grimy bare hands all over the food while trying to avoid eye contact with and Hungry Human beings (me ‍only) for about 4 minutes straight I decided to try Summit BBQ down the street instead. I don't know why I would expect good SERVICE at an old SERVICE station turned bare bone bbq joint, and granted it seemed to be only them two running the show, but cmon... all I ask for is a simple acknowledgment of existence and say a few words like... "I'll be right with you" or "sorry we are slammed" or even a gesture a quick glance really anything would have done, he could have spit in my direction and that would have been more. And put some gloves on you filthy animals, but I do have to commend them for bringing me back to review town, it's been a while
google avatar

Yelp
This place is awesome, I've been here many times. Love the smoke ribs and smoked sausage. It would be nice to get more veggies at the menu... smoked or steamed veggies!

Yelp
So place was super neat and the outdoor area was decorated for fall and with Nov temps in the 70s, great to eat outside. We ordered a brisket and ham sandwich & a sausage and pork sandwich with fries & onion rings. The ham was delicious with great smoke flavor but the brisket was just ok & a little salty. (?) On the other sandwich very good sausage but again the pork was just ok. The onion rings looked great & the coating was decent not a lot of flavor but the onions were like shriveled up inside. It was like they were fried from the inside out. Fries had a seasoning I didn't care for but my wife liked. Overall, nice little neighborhood BBQ place but not someplace I would seek out.

Donna H.

Yelp
The BBQ is consistently good. The sandwiches are large and full of meat. We usually have the Carolina Pulled pork. The pork is tender, juicy, plentiful. The coleslaw is made in house and is not your standard cream based (although that's also available as a side). It's really good. The ribs are some of the best in the KC area. The restaurant and bathroom are always clean. On top of all of that the staff is pleasant and helpful. We highly recommend The filling station. Don't go on Monday's they're closed.
google avatar

Chad M.

Yelp
Ribs! Ribs! Ribs! Seriously. Loved these ribs. My buddy with me is a Kansas City guy and loved the ribs too. Said he hadn't had ribs that good in a long time. I had some ribs at another restaurant the next week and they were no comparison. Environment is awesome. Very unique being in an old gas station. Nice downtown are t walk around also after dinner to walk off the ribs. Thanks Filling Station for exceeding expectations.

Yelp
Stopped by the Filling Station on a whim today with some friends. This place is so cute, clean, affordable and delicious. I had the smoked catfish with baked beans and sweet potato fries. It was all super tasty and fast. The workers were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be going back.
google avatar

Jessie K.

Yelp
I went here a couple of years ago on Mother's Day and couldn't bring myself to come back. The BBQ was okay but as an experience I am shocked I made it to the end. We walked in and saw the staff sitting on the food counter next to a large CAN of baked beans. High price tag for canned baked beans and a staff that clearly didn't care about cleanliness or service. It took forever to get our food and we were the only ones there. I was very surprised this cute place was so bad.

Tonice R.

Yelp
Shitty ass customer service my burnt End sandwich was cold I asked for a fresh one, got it back and it was still cold as fuck. it was cold as fuckin ice then they didn't let me get a refund they told me to just deal with it. the people sitting behind me at their table got burnt black ass onion rings. Horrible!!! Ruined my night
google avatar

Mitch R.

Yelp
Great local food for a good price. Local gem with excellent friendly service. Had the pulled pork special and burnt ends, which were both excellent! Homemade sauces were tasty also!
google avatar

Tyga M.

Yelp
The restaurant itself is quaint and customer service is friendly and prompt, but I was pretty unimpressed with the food. There was little to no flavor in the meat itself (I had turkey, my friend had pork), and our fries were a tad undercooked. The sandwiches have LARGE buns, and the ratio of bread to meat is easily 4:1. The regular BBQ sauce and cole slaw were good though. While I wouldn't object to visiting again, I won't be seeking it out either.

Yelp
When an out of town friend stopped in for an overnight visit and wanted to experience some KC style BBQ, rather than drive into the city to go to the standard places like Gates, Jack Stack, or Arthur Bryants; I thought of Lee's Summit's own Filling Station. We are glad we went tonight. On Monday's and Thursday's The Filling Station has a rib special. A full side of ribs (about 12-14 ribs) for $16.95. This was enough to feed three adults. The ribs were meaty and big and tasty. Lot's of wonderful smoky flavor. In addition we ordered coleslaw. The Filling Station coleslaw has a vinegar based slaw dressing and it was quite tasty. A pint, fed three adults. We also ordered Onion Rings (I thought they were a bit salty) and Fried Pickles. The Fired Pickles were wonderful and the dipping sauce that came with them was also good. Just the right amount of dill in the fry batter on the pickles. The Filling Station serves Coke Products. A good meal that left a good impression on our out of town guest.

Yelp
As a kid growing up in LS, The Filling Station has always been a family favorite, we would take family members that would come visit also. The barbecue is mouth watering and divine. We moved in 2011 to Virginia and could never find a barbecue out there that could come close to the bar that the filling station set in our life. Now its 2016 came to visit LS and of course had to go get some barbecue! Still tastes marvelous even being owned by a new owner. They really have done a good job with the foods. Will for sure continue to recommend to friends to try.

Yelp
Stopped in since I was downtown and the smell of BBQ was tempting. I ordered a rib tip sandwich. The lady behind the counter seemed annoyed that I changed my order once I saw the daily special. The reason I'm giving two stars is due to a long hair being found in my sandwich! I was in a rush and eating my to go order when I noticed. I called back later to notify them of this situation. The same lady that helped me earlier apologized and said she really didn't know what to do about this. She offered a new sandwich which was nice but I didn't want a new sandwich. She eventually said that she would talk to the lady in the back that handles the food. I was concerned when she stated I don't know what to do about this.

Yelp
Small BBQ 2 blocks se of downtown lees summit mo. Really is an old gas station. Very limited seating. Not too hot spiced. Burnt ends great. Perfect quiet lunch spot. Few people know about it.
google avatar

Courtney C.

Yelp
This spot has risen in the ranks on my BBQ list in a short amount of time, in fact I've eaten here more in the last year than any of my other "favorite" spots. Let's take a moment and talk about their homemade sausage, something that doesn't typically speak to me but the product here us unbelievably good not to mention the fact that their ribs are so freakin perfect The come right off the bone when you eat them. Dudes are solid and taste just like granny used to make. One of my favorite things is their sauce, they have three different t kinds. We have found that when all three are mixed together they create the perfect sauce. If you haven't been here, fo yourself a favor and check them out. There's a chance we'll bump into one another there.
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
Considering this place is so close to Kansas City, you would think the food would be better. I don't think this place should even call itself BBQ. When I walked in, the place smelt kind of like trash and all of the tables were sticky. I ordered my food but the food they gave me came out wrong. I decided not to make a fuss and just eat it anyway. The side was cold and the meet was lukewarm, like it had been sitting on a counter for a while. The meat needed to be smothered in BBQ sauce to make up for how chewy and dry it was. I thought this would be a better experience because the building and the decoration seemed like a good idea and authentic but I guess that goes to show, don't judge a book by it's cover.
google avatar

Yelp
Well, this is good BBQ, and considering it's out in Lee's Summit, it's like 5 stars for around there. Also the beans are very above average, and their hot sauce alone is worth the trip (but I had to mix it with the medium to save my mouth). I only had their Carolina pulled-pork sandwich (with cole slaw on top), and it was pretty good. I had to, though, use a lot of sauce because the meat, while tender, didn't have much flavor of it's own. The cole slaw, sort of a side note to a good pulled-porker when in good order, in this case just sort of sat there, adding a little texture but not much else. Maybe I just like my cole slaw a little on the vinegary side, but this was pretty much just colorful cabbage. Nevertheless, I ate the whole thing (with the aforementioned sauce mix) and was happy. Now on to the beans. The beans, really a mean in-and-of-themselves, were chuck-full-o-pork bits, and in my estimation, if struck by lightening might spontaneously come alive and start talking. They looked good, and they almost tasted as good as they looked. I like my beans hearty and spicey, and these didn't really have the tang I enjoy. Still, I ate them all, too, and I was happy. Anyhow, I might be harshly judging some really good BBQ, but it's high standards which give us a good measure of an experience. As far as the ambiance of the place goes, it was a nice little nook-place, clean, inside and outside seating, and good for kids, families, or friends. I'll be back.

Yelp
Call this strike one. Eaten here many times in the past and always very good. A little off today. Burnt ends were cold, sweet potato fries were burnt, fountain coke was flat not the norm. I'll give it another chance because I love this place love the location. Hoping for better next time.
