The Fillmore is my new favorite venue to catch a show! After seeing two concerts in three days, I had the unique opportunity for a first impressions, then a deeper dive.
Who knew, that after 11+ years of vacant space located in Harrah's 22,000 square foot "attic" that it would be the hottest spot in town? Opened in February in partnership with House of Blues & LiveNation, The Fillmore pays homage to its original location in San Francisco with the this Nola venue.
The flow is great. The space was designed to deal with large crowds and despite my second show being sold out, never once did the crowd bottleneck. Entry is a wide, long hallway that splits into two lines for security. Tickets and QR code's are scanned after. The hallway snakes into a main lobby with a three sided bar, merchandise area, lounge, ticket booth, coat check, snack stand and sitting area. Nods to New Orleans culture and music, including directional signage that mimics our street tiles and brass instruments are focal points throughout.
A vast stairwell pouring out to Canal street makes for expedient exit after the show. Another wide hall directs crowds to bathrooms and entry to the concert hall. Bathrooms are designed to be fully automated, including entry/exit only doorways to create crowd flow and avoid surfaces that could be touched by unwashed hands.
In the concert hall itself, the rear provides auditorium seating, flanked by raised VIP seating with table service. On either side of the stage between the entrances and VIP areas are vast bars highly staffed to keep lines short.
The stage is raised and visibility is good. There are some obstructed views the closer you stand to the VIP areas but overall line of sight is uninterrupted. Sound quality is excellent without discomfort. I've been to plenty of shows where I've left and couldn't hear anything but the ringing in my ears. This venue gets everything right. 5 out of 5.
