The 23 Best Date Night Restaurants In London Right Now - London - The Infatuation

"Housed in a former Air Cadets lodge, this airy, foliage-accented Leytonstone bar is currently home to Sho Foo Doh, a long-term Japanese residency. Their hidden, heated terrace is an excellent setting for eating potato salad with a live-wire dosage of chilli oil and splitting a bottle of Spanish orange wine. Come sundown, the chopsticks are cleared away and a DJ hits the decks inside. It’s the E11 afterparty that’s always worth getting a little Negroni-blurry for." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley

Sho Foo Doh at Filly Brook - Review - Leytonstone - London - The Infatuation

"If someone were to draw a beer-garden version of that ascent of man diagram, Filly Brook’s covered terrace would be its final beautiful form, standing on two legs, shoulders back, and making eyes at the nearest bottle of biodynamic orange wine. Housed in a former Air Cadets lodge, this airy, foliage-accented Leytonstone spot may be masquerading as a chill local bar, but it has solved one of the ultimate dining dilemmas: Where do you eat when that instinctive London longing to sit on a picnic bench in the sunshine hits, but you don’t want to compromise your personal promise to not eat battered chicken in public anymore? Enter Sho Foo Doh and udon so bouncy it could pursue a career as a trampoline’s stunt double. photo credit: Filly Brook photo credit: Filly Brook Filly Brook’s long-term Japanese residency is all about reinvented izakaya classics that, helpfully, can be consumed while your other hand goes about the important business of draining a pint. Think eggy potato salad with a live-wire dosage of chilli oil, a crispy gyoza skin tostada topped with citric tuna, and golden tonkatsu that deserves a lingering dip in the sweet plum sauce. Even the simple shrimp wontons don’t require a publicist—couples seeking a cheeky mezcalita post-pup-walk and happy, hoppy group hangs all get neighbour envy and wind up with dumpling and dan dan additions to their tables. Stick around once the chopsticks have been cleared away. Come sundown, a DJ hits the decks inside and Filly Brook becomes the E11 after-party that’s always worth getting a little Negroni blurry for. Food Rundown Potato Salad Potato salad, meet chilli oil. Chilli oil, meet potato salad. Charmed, we’re sure. This is a pairing that we’ll now co-opt in our kitchens every summer from now until death. Plot twist: Parmesan and chilli oil are an “it” couple we never saw coming, but we’re very into them together. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Tuna Tostada One word: fresh. To really make all the wasabi and avocado chunks pop, squeeze the limes like you’ve been put in charge of making margaritas for 40 people. Also, we’d like to formally diagnose using fried gyoza skins as tostadas as: genius. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Tonkatsu The golden panko crust on this hulking, chewy pork cutlet has perfected the ombre finish better than 99.9% of London’s hairdressers. Props to the accompanying plum sauce that is sweet, a touch herbal, and—hello, subterfuge—makes the little silver dish it comes in worth hogging for the extra-crunchy crusty bits. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Vegan Dan Dan Udon Truthfully, a majority of our trust issues come from dating people who believe that the mere presence of a guitar at a house party is a personal invite to begin a brooding rendition of “Wonderwall.” But the fact that there isn’t any meat in this, forgive us, inherently “meaty” sauce is a close second. Spice-wise, it’s hot, hot, hot, and the udon’s springboard texture is up there with some of the best noodles in this city. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley" - Heidi Lauth Beasley

East London Cool at Filly Brook Filly Brook was a breath of fresh air — stylish, laid-back, and full of personality. The space is beautifully designed, with natural wood, soft lighting, and a relaxed vibe that makes you want to linger. We tried a few small plates and natural wines — everything was thoughtfully curated and full of flavour. The Japanese-inspired dishes were delicate yet bold, and the drinks list had some real gems. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, happy to guide us through the menu. It’s the kind of place that feels both local and special — perfect for a quiet evening, a date night, or catching up with friends over great food and wine. Final thought: If you're looking for a cozy, creative spot with East London charm and Japanese flair, Filly Brook is a standout — elegant, soulful, and effortlessly cool.

Perfectly perfect Roast! One of best finds for roast in this area. Great food experience and is served hot! For the customer service, she was very attentive and follow ups what else you need at the table - great service! Dining in was very comfortable, the ambiance is very cosy and relaxing.

What a lovely place for a casual meal and catching up with friends. A couple of my friends live in the local area and recommended the place. We came for a weekend brunch and I was not disappointed with the food. And it seems the menu gets updated regularly - a sign of a good restaurant in my book. My only disappointment was when I was told they don’t do coffee (what?!). There’s plenty of beer, wine and cocktail tho, I was told. So I asked for an espresso martini. There wasn’t one either. Sad times.

Natural Wines & Vinyl Vibes at Filly Brook – Leytonstone Filly Brook is the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something special. Tucked just off the high street in Leytonstone, this bar-slash-cultural-hub blends Scandi minimalism with East London edge — think concrete floors, clean lines, and a warm glow from low-hanging bulbs. The drinks are the stars: natural wines, inventive cocktails, and local craft beers, all curated with care. We tried the mezcal negroni and a seasonal spritz — both were balanced, bold, and beautifully served. The wine list changes often, leaning into biodynamic and low-intervention bottles that pair well with the bar’s understated charm. There’s a small but thoughtful food menu — cheese plates, charcuterie, and occasional pop-ups from local chefs. The vibe is relaxed but refined, with vinyl spinning in the background and a crowd that’s effortlessly stylish without being aloof. Filly Brook also hosts DJ nights, art events, and community gatherings, making it more than just a bar — it’s a creative space that invites you to linger, connect, and discover.

The food is incredible and service is always in anticipation being unobtrusive. The quality of food product speaks volumes! I had a home made baklava and went for an ice-cream to pair , the ice cream was indeed a creamy richly textured and balanced on the palate. The chefs team is great for consistent food and quality. My humble prayer to team to keep the same quality and consistency, you all will do wonders in life in sustainability local business. Great selection of food , wines and beers. I wish all the best to the team and owners, keep up the great work. Harris , Xander and Ellie was great to offer service and was very hospitable for the dessert to pair.

This is our favourite local spot. Love the vibe of the place, really nice staff, good drinks selection (albeit a bit pricy) and great food. We keep coming back with our little one and all the friends we’ve brought with us have loved it too. Definitely the neighborhood gem.

Last night was our 3rd visit having recently moved to the area and couldn’t recommend Filly Brook more. The food is excellent (particularly recommend the sesame panko crusted cauliflower) and the cocktails are delicious. The service was friendly and the atmosphere had just the right vibe. We’ll be back soon!

We have eaten here many times before and always enjoyed the food but we ate there yesterday and found the food below average. Soggy fried cauliflower and our main dish the share had only 2 prawns and wasn't worth the £15 price tag. Real shame as the drinks and setting are very good but we won't be eating there again in a hurry!
