The 21 Best Restaurants in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca | Eater

"“Argentine” and “fusion” are the key words at Filomena, where you can find excellent cuts of meat, classic empanadas, Argentina’s traditional “lomito” sandwich, and specialties like calamari stuffed with red mole and chile poblano stuffed with Argentine chorizo. Of the house-made desserts, don’t miss the dulce de leche ice cream; same goes for any pour on the varied Argentine wine list; and the “White Mexican,” a version of the famous White Russian adapted to Oaxacan flavors made with mezcal infused with coffee, coffee liqueur, milk cream, and Fernet with Coke. Closed on Wednesdays. [$$]" - Tirza Bonifazi

We started with the sweet bread, which was absolutely delicious. For our main, we shared the picanha, the special of the day that wasn’t listed on the menu. It was very nice, perfectly cooked, very well seasoned, amazing flavorful. It came with roasted vegetables, sauces, and potatoes that complemented the meat perfectly. The service was also excellent. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and took the time to explain the menu and the daily specials in detail.

After a long journey, encouraged by the reviews, we descend upon Filomena, where, I believe, the owner greets us at the door. He talks passionately about his meats and daily specials. The service is top-notch, as is the food. A great place to start your stay in this city.

We live down the street for a year and have eaten at many restaurants on the rinconada. We are so mad we haven’t eaten at Filomena earlier. We are very familiar with Argentinan food. This was some of the best we’ve had. The rib eye and picana were fantastic, cooked beautifully, and perfectly seasoned . We tried all 3 empanadas enjoyed them all. Bottles of wine a reasonable price . Lovely service . We will be going back again and again.

Best steak in Puerto! We went as a group and 4 of us got the 800g picanha (meant for 2 people to share), and absolutely demolished them individually. Far too much food, could barely move for hours afterward. No regrets. They also make very nice cocktails, and their complementary bread basket with garlic butter was top tier. Had to hug the chef personally for cooking the best steak of my life.

Family run place with in door and out door seating. Outdoor seating was nice as you got to see the world go by. Amazing value for margaritas as 2 for 180 pesos. Tasted amazing Proprietor recommended the 800g sirloin with grilled veg and salad. Cooked to perfection - medium rare. Accompanied with the chimichanga sauce. The pear in Malbec with cardamom ice cream was good. Service was super attentive and warm.

We stopped in for a small bite to tide us over and were presented with two for one hibiscus mescalitas. Small buns and homemade garlic melbas were brought to the table with a scarlet garlicccc butter....so good then we ordered grilled provolone drizzled with oregano oil and an Arabic espanada.... Grilled onions and pepper accompanied this. The special was a huge steak done on the BBQ just outside the door .... Will definitely go back for that another time!

Okay, lets start with the steak. When they say Argentina knows their way around a steak, they are understanding it! This steak was incredible! Seasoned to perfection and cooked exactly as ordered. The staff where friendly, attentive and generally pleasant to talk to! The place itself is beautiful as well, with nice music playing (not to loudly) and quality chairs and tables. Also, grab a cocktail while you're here, and you will not be disappointed. All around fantastic experience and would love to recommend to anyone who is in the area or not! However... It's not cheap so make sure to bring your wallets!

Loved the food here- that garlic sauce served with the bread including what I think of as pao de queso (cheese balls) - delish! Staff were super friendly, burger and empanada were great. Had a special with a good price on gin and tonics the night we were there. Want to come back for steak!
