The 22 Best Restaurants in Cork, Ireland | Eater

"In a city chock-full of fine coffee houses and a county with the best roasting scene in Ireland, Filter is Cork’s epicenter for serious coffee drinkers. Assembled from recycled materials, it sports the clean, spare lines of a lab with none of the sterility, and an extensive array of coffee-related kit. Filter carries an impressive range of beans from top Irish roasters to titillate the obsessives yet functions equally well as a coffeehouse for the general public. Partner-proprietors Eoin McCarthy and Alex O’Callaghan have established an off-site bakery, supplying the shop (and other coffeehouses) with an inventive range of confections and baked goods. Google
One of my go-to spots before work. The coffee hits the spot every time, and the atmosphere is super relaxed. Not a lot of seating, but that kinda makes it cozy.

Whenever I stop by this coffee shop, I always encounter rude baristas. They look constantly angry, serve people with a cold, stone face, and act as if customers are disturbing them just by ordering. Honestly, it’s completely unprofessional and makes the whole place feel unwelcoming.

Only had coffee, it was good. Nice looking small coffee place, excellent background music, nice vibe in here. Pro Palestinian flags so obvious anti war and anti genocide sentiment in play. Worth a visit.

Ordered a cappuccino and completely scalded my mouth as the barista had heated the milk to a crazy temperature. Very painful and dangerous. Also just a general bad vibe from the place. Avoid like the plague

If you’re looking for great coffee in Cork City this is the spot! Staff is super friendly and helpful when needed to choose coffee beans for my house. Big selection of coffees and treats. Great music and atmosphere inside.

Google
Nice cafe, but it’s a shame they close in the middle of the afternoon at weekends. Myself and some other customers were being turned away at closing time. I had to go to one of the (many) other coffee shops in town, which were all still bustling with customers.

Got a lovely salted early grey matcha latte, stunning! Cute stickers around the cafe, although small, would highly recommend a visit! 🫶

I was walking, craving coffee (I’m Italian) and I was so much attracted by the smell coming out of the shop I turned back on my steps (like in the cartoons). Amazing place and very hot baristas ✨

Yelp
If you're a visitor or a local...there's no need to fret, you aren't going to be subject to subpar coffee while in Cork. Scurry away your thoughts of grabbing some java at a convenience store (or even at your hotel) and saddle on up to my newest, most favorite spot on earth. Filter is here to save your day! On a recent weekend morning I was up early (thanks baby!) and in need of coffee. While leisurely strolling along the river (and with a bit of help from my Yelp app) I came upon Filter, which was just opening its doors, hauling in jugs of milks for their coffee artistry endeavors. A sign if I ever saw one. Caffeine was to be mine. My latte was gorgeous (photo below) and hit the spot. The real stuff. I wish there was a Filter in every city in which I visit in the world, I'd not have to worry about caffeine reduction anxiety. Ha, I'm kidding! Sort of. *Small seating area (a few high tables) and pastries/light sandwiches on offer as well.

Yelp
Brand New - from Eoin the guy who used to be at Gulpd Cafe at Triskel. The place is only open a week and it already SMASHES any coffee options in Cork! I had a Guatemalan filter coffee with a distinct taste of chocolate, delicious! I'm not a coffee Nerd, not really, but I know when I walk into a place and i'm out of my depth that something special is happening. Filter Coffees, weird coffee paraphernalia... soya milk! This place is gonna be massive for O'Sullivan's Quay. They built the place themselves, laid the floor, made the counters from old doors and wardrobes. Its a TINY space, but there is a more space than you think to sit, around by the espresso bar etc.... Despite the fact that I live on the other side of the city, I will be visiting this tasty little spot regularly. Its worth the walk.

Yelp
Well it wasn't what I expected at all: first the place itself it's not that great : really narrow and not clean. Then they didn't have a real menu which is tough when you don't know what to order. I took a regular cappuccino which was far from the best of my life... The taste of the milk was too strong, I didn't taste the coffee at all. I don't think I will go again

Yelp
Really lovely gem of a coffee shop along the quay. The space is narrow but cozy, with spaces to sit in the back along the bar, or at one of three tables in front. We were just passing through Cork, but the shop seemed like a great mix of locals and visitors, all there to try the great coffee from Irish roasters. Filter had three on offer (Golden Bean, 3fe, and Badger and Dodo) when we popped in. There is no menu, so I went with the first thing that came to mind- a flat white. The milk was perfectly creamy and didn't overpower the coffee in any way. Hope to be back some time soon.

Yelp
This review is as much a love letter to the coffee, as it is to Alex & Co (the staff). They've gone from strength to strength over the years. It is not easy trying to be a high-quality coffee outlet in Ireland, let alone Cork; but the rising amounts of Irish emigrants returning home regularly has brought a caffeine addiction, and a demand for quality. Unequivocally, Filter is the best place for coffee in Cork. Also, it should be a big compliment to say that they stay true to using Irish roasters, and not taking the easy route of using sup-par beans, or driving up price with imports from 'high-end' roasters like Drop in Sweden, or Climpson & Sons / Square Mile in London. + Flat White & Lattes are sweet and velvety. + They'll do filter or Aeropress depending on what you like, and you can choose your own beans. + You can buy a porlex hand-gider and Aeropress, which make great gifts for coffee fans. + Have food, Wifi, available plugs at the coffee bar-top, and a toilet. So settle in for a days work. - Not a lot of space; but take it to go and wander my lovely home city. She's a beautiful thing.

Yelp
Delicious, smooth, non-bitter coffee with a barista/owner that cares about the quality of their work.

Yelp
Easily the best coffee I've had in Cork. Filter stocks a wide range of beans from Badger & Dodo, and a selection of teas from the good folks at The Tea Garden. The barista was nice enough to pick a carafe of one of their Guatemalan coffees and was good enough to provide us with a free shot of another variety. So we got a little bit of coffee education and a serious case of the jitters. This place makes me want to be a coffee-nerd though, I'll be making a real effort to call in whenever I'm back in Cork.

Yelp
Stopped by after reading the reviews. I was a little taken aback by the small size. It is tiny and I was disappointed that there weren't seats so that I would enjoy my coffee leisurely. But, I guess that says something about the coffee quality - it was great. Friendly and helpful staff and nice Latte Art!

Yelp
Really great coffee. Cool people. They've been known to start preparing my cappuccino when they see me walking up. I'm down, yo.

Yelp
Finally made it in there today for the first time. Hands down the best coffee in Cork from the best Barista in Cork. Great selection of beans, chilled out and a comfortable spot all round! If you REALLY love your coffee, and even if you don't, this spot is highly recommended!

Luke H.

Yelp
One of the best places in Cork for coffee there is. It's a little small so not too many chairs but the quality of the coffee is great.
