Everything You Need to Know About the Changes at Marina Variety Store | Eater Carolinas

"Reopening this week at 9 Lockwood Drive under James and Cindy Capps, this successor keeps the seafood-house spirit alive with fry baskets and fresh catches; I got a peek at a tentative menu adding conch fritters, cioppino, and a poke bowl, and it will maintain the entire Marina Variety breakfast menu with longtime chef Ryan Collins still cooking." - Erin Perkins

This establishment destroyed a beautiful historical and cultural restaurant, The Marina Variety Store, so they could put in a millennial grey tourist trap. This place was once a Charleston staple. If you care about Charleston and its culture, I would not give this business your time or money. They mislead the public and their employees and destroyed a beloved eatery. It can only be inferred that this is how they will treat their food, service, and atmosphere.

I would highly consider a name change and going back to the old menu and ways. Prices way too high for a place with a mediocre remodel , doubling the prices. May work on Shem Creek for tourists but this wasn’t a great experience

This restaurant is not fully open yet but they had a soft opening. The restaurant has been renovated and is nice inside. Customers are definitely paying for it. The prices are too high for a restaurant that was once considered a dive bar. Service was mediocre. The prices are set as if they are fine dining. Food is good but again, too pricey. Unfortunately I do not see this restaurant to be the new place to go especially in this economy.

Would NEVER eat here again. Awful what they have done to a once loved community staple. Destroying generations of goodwill like this does not deserve a reward.

Yelp
Welcome back, Fin & Crab -- you nailed it. I stopped going to Fin & Crab for the same reasons many locals did: it had started to feel tired and overdue for a reset. Well... consider that reset complete. The reopening at Charleston City Marina is a total refresh in all the ways that matter. The space is now clean, bright, and inviting, with a polished-but-relaxed coastal feel that finally matches its unbeatable location. The menu stays true to what worked--familiar favorites, solid seafood, and crowd-pleasers--without trying too hard or losing its identity. Sometimes you don't need a reinvention; you just need execution done right. And the view? Absolutely unmatched. Watching boats drift in and out of the marina with the Charleston skyline and water stretching out in front of you reminds you why this spot should always have been special. It's one of those places where you catch yourself lingering longer than planned--drink in hand, breeze coming off the water, thinking, oh... this is what it was supposed to be. If you drifted away like I did, it's time to come back. Fin & Crab is refreshed, revived, and once again worthy of its address.
