Fin and Flounder

I mainly come here for the fresh oysters at the market. They are great, but the men who serve aren't so nice all the time, they have a "fake polite" energy that they exude. Also the tried to overcharge me, but I did the math of all the individual oysters I asked for, and said it should cost X price instead, so they had to reduce it. I'm not even a tourist, but they tried to make me fall for this trap; lucky I always check. For these reasons they don't get 5 stars from me, and seafood is my favourite cuisine.

Only popped by at the oyster cart, yet. Fun stop, extremely tasty oysters, favourite was the Irish Carlingford Oyster; fresh, juicy and with an almost green taste. Focused shucking and a great atmosphere from the stroller parents to the runners stopping by for a quick protein fix.

I love the way they handle their fish. It’s the one and only fishmongers in Broadway market, but the care and attention they give to the fish add so much freshness and flavour. All fish is handled with love. Their selection of fish is impressive given that it’s a tiny place. The fish is alway fresh and we’ll presented. We love going there to buy something special to cook. We bought fresh mackerel and monk fish today.

Some of the best oysters i've had in london. I think the options depend on what time you come. I've come on a Saturday before and there were multiple types of oysters, ranging in price from around £3.50 to £6 each. I got a pricier oyster and it was unbelievably good. I came recently on a Thursday at 6 and the oysters were £2 each. They were still good but not as mind blowing. However the cheaper price made them a great deal. I specifically recommended picking up some oysters then sitting at the pub across the road to get a drink to wash them down with.

Purchased a few dozen fresh oysters recently - some from Whitstable and a dozen from Jersey. Highly recommended. Also got about 250g of seaweed. A lovely fishmongers that have a range of seafood. Very friendly and helpful staff.

A knowledgable, honest and hardworking business. Open throughout Covid, sourcing direct day boat, sustainable fish from UK waters. Always open for advice, good humour and stocked with enough cloudy breakfast wine from far and wide to keep you though the dark days. The fish is clear eyed, solid and red gilled. The guys are always up for cutting the fish to suit your plan, or offering suggestions if you get a bit lost. Great oysters. Great daily fish. Good people.

Some people open a shop because they spot a profit margin. Other people own a shop because they have a passion for a particular type of business, and hope they can catch a profitable margin. This place is definitely the domain of the latter. These are owners who clearly love fish/seafood. The merchandise is presented this way. In fact it looks you in the eye and says "eat me." It's not a huge place but the product is hand picked and the quality high. Also, don't fret too much about prices. A big bag of mussels was 5.0, which isn't bad for ocean goodness.

Wow, surprised there hasn't been a review in a couple years for this place. It's my local fishmonger and is as good as it gets. The fish, which compose of a varying display of in season delectables, are presented out in front of the counter for the customer to feast their eyes on. The staff are infinitely helpful in going through the different offerings, the best way to cook the fish and are always willing to fillet and pin bone the fish (or gut the squid!) if needed. An absolute must if you live local and are looking for fresh fish.

Have been shopping here over the past year and always found the service as well as the fish to be excellent. Sometimes the price may be a bit higher than expected, but if cheap fish is now a product of fishing practices which are depleting our oceans, and this shop seeks to counter such practices by selling fish that's sustainably sourced, then this is surely a price worth paying. Quality or freshness have always been of the highest standard, too. Staff sometimes go for an unconventional approach (very relaxed!) when dealing with customers, but this has always been very friendly and as I understand it above all an expression of the fact that they take great pride in what they do and where they work.

All businesses have problems, the way that they deal with them is the measure of how good they are. Earlier this year I bought a lovely big gurnard for about £13 from Fin and Flounder. When I was preparing that evening we found it full of worms. It happens, can't blame the fishmonger. We wrote it off to bad luck, binned it and had a vegetarian evening. Last weekend I got another . Same again. That was annoying and expensive but nothing to be done. I was passing Fin & Flounder yesterday and thought that I'd pick up something for dinner and would mention the two wormy fish. I'd expect that at least they'd offer a replacement. So I told the guy in the shop and he just blanked me. I said again - "two wormy fish, £25 down the drain, that's not good is it." Silence. He just looked away. So I said it louder and firmly for a third time and this got a response. "Umm. I'll knock a pound off this one." I found that insulting and unacceptable. Of course some fish will have worms, that's how it is. But I'd expect a decent fishmonger to offer a free replacement. If they are just going to shrug it off then perhaps they need a sign saying "We sell wormy fish. If you get one then too bad. It's your problem!"

An excellent and friendly fishmongers which strives to stock sustainable seafood. There's often shasimi grade tuna and the guys will let you know what the catch of the day is through their Twitter feed. On a weekend they have a stall on Broadway Market selling sushi which is set up outside of Off Broadway.
