Bucktown Gets a Rooftop Bar and Shuffleboard Court Tonight | Eater Chicago

"A Lakeview sports-and-beer staple known as a reliable spot to watch NFL and college football, located at 3458 N. Lincoln Avenue, has been sold after more than two decades; the incoming owners will take over after service on Saturday and plan to retain the entire staff while keeping some of the food and drink specials." - Daniel Gerzina

I started stopping by Finley Dunne’s Tavern earlier this year, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite spots in Chicago! From their delicious pizza and burger to the amazing, friendly bar staff! This place has such a welcoming atmosphere that you feel at home the moment you walk in. The patrons are equally friendly, making it the perfect neighborhood hangout. With TVs mounted on all four walls (plus the street-side patio) you can catch pretty much any game your witty heart desires while kicking back and enjoying the chill and lively vibes. Whether you’re looking for a local neighborhood staple or just a great bar to unwind at, Finley Dunne’s is the place. And trust me on this… DON’T LEAVE WITHOUT ORDERING AN O’YEA Bomb!! You won’t regret it!

Google
Not an IU bar anymore! Great spot but wanted to spread the word. They played an Illinois basketball game with sound on instead of the Big Ten Football championship IU vs. Ohio State. The football game was on some TVs but our group left for another establishment pretty surprised an early regular season college basketball game carried more weight than 1 vs. 2 in the Big 10 championship.

Google
Really enjoyed the house made chips, had great service, and can't beat $2.50 draft PBR

Google
This is a very cool place to watch games on many screens including the very large one behind the bar. Although the tap selection are limited to such staples as Anti-Hero and Daisy Cutter, there are also spirits in this sports bar. Their food here is very good especially the wings (prefer the garlic parmesan) and the loaded tater tots. The staff is friendly and so is the owner. Additionally, there is free popcorn for all patrons.

Google
Great family owned and operated, like cheers only better

Google
This review is for the carrots and those who love carrots. Have you ever wanted to bite into a carrot that just tastes like a carrot is meant to taste? These are sweet (but not too sweet), crunchy (the perfect crunch), and full of flavor (carrot). You haven’t had a carrot until you’ve had a Finley Dunne’s Carrot. Edit: the celery is also good

Great vibes and service in here. Our drinks never ran empty because of our amazing bartender Taylor! Will be back for sure

Google
Love this spot! Service is always great and food is SO good! They have a plenty of TVs, darts and TouchTunes. Their wings are my favorite and they let you mix sauces (recommend the buffalo with garlic parm) and their sweet potato fries are my favorite ever but really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

Yelp
Finley Dunnes, a good old sports bar right off the Paulina Brown Line Stop on Lincoln. I use to go here when the Blackhawks were rolling in 13' & 15', such a good Chicago neighborhood sports bar. Met a buddy that lives up the street to watch the Cubs game. The food is solid, beers are cold and the service is spot on.

Yelp
Cheap beer, good food, amazing service. Came in Friday around 6, not super busy, but then it picked up. The bartenders also served the food and was honestly some of the best service I have ever had a bar. Though crowded they both seemed to know when I need another drink either from the bar or just walking by and both were very nice. Kudos to the woman and guy. Give them a raise.

Yelp
Don't believe what the website says. I traveled to watch my out-of-town sports team today because they advertised that it was one of the preferred teams on their website. When I got there they had lots of TVs but all of them were tuned to either Indiana or Northwestern games.

Yelp
Had a good time at this sports bar. It's a basic neighborhood place north of the Southport Brown Line station. Finley Dunnes isn't anything remarkable but it will do the job. More to the point, the job of getting you tipsy. The bar also has food but not too much that's healthy or okay for vegetarians. Bars like this are okay, and we had a mostly good experience after stopping in a bit. It looks a lot like a typical dive bar: dark and musty. There's both drink and food menus that are affordable on most options. It's about $6 for a cocktail. Whiskey was poured pretty strong. Food options are limited. We got the Pretzel. It's $6 for a few sticks to dip in cheese or mustard. The pretzels were kind of soft and not as greasy as others. Cool better than average bar. It's not anything at all special but it's okay. The rest of the menu includes typical bar things like wings and whatever.

Daniel S.

Yelp
Opened late. No food. Smelled terrible! All of the seats were torn and there appeared to be drinks still on the bar from last night.

Craig B.

Yelp
Great wings, super friendly staff, and a ton of TVs with games on (just ask if there is something you want and they will try to get it on). Overall a great neighborhood chicago bar!
google avatar

David Y.

Yelp
Went for the TNF Bears game recently. Sadly they were very understaffed for the night. No one's fault at all, but the service was quite slow, but good enough keeping the small staff. Ordered the garlic parmesan mixed with medium wings. They were quite good, but wish there was a bit more sauce overall, wings were cooked well but needed more sauce. Overall enjoyed the game and food!
google avatar

Brad S.

Yelp
My favorite bar in the city of Chicago. Big fan of the Ryan Burger, Guinness Brat and the Wings. Fun but laid back atmosphere with great service. They usually play the sound for whatever the main sporting event is that night. Golden Tee and Darts available if that's your thing. And when you get the bill at the end of the night, it's usually significantly less than any other place I've tried in the surrounding area.
google avatar

Yelp
Great bar. Great service. Great prices. Great customers. We really enjoyed watching the Stanley Cup Game 7 there. This is an outstanding Chicago neighborhood bar.
google avatar

Melanie V.

Yelp
First time stopping by for a beer after Fernando's, and was pretty happy. This is a pretty divy bar with limited traffic. Decent selection of draft beer and outdoor seating with the TVs up to the windows for viewing. The waitress was fast and kind. I will go back, not sure about eating there but the beers are safe!
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place! Love watching the nhl playoffs here! Great food good people! Wings and the home made chips are great!

Yelp
Finley Dunnes tavern is where it's at! We stopped by before a cubs game for some drinks & snacks and had a grand old time. They have a pretty good beer selection and tasty, reasonably priced food. First off, you can't miss out on their 50 cent wing special on Tuesdays. We ordered a dozen of the garlic parm wings with a side of the hot sauce to share and they were bomb. Their chicken nachos also did not disappoint - comes with nacho cheese, pico de gallo, jalapenos, guacamole & sour cream. The portions here are quite generous (more than enough to feed 3 hungry ladies) and they make their own pizza dough from scratch! They have great deals on drinks throughout the week as well as $2.50 high life drafts and $5 stadium cups on the weekends. The staff here is super nice and welcoming, they really make you feel like you're at home even if you're not from the area. The owner even took the time to come say hi to us. The vibe here is pretty laid-back, which I really enjoyed. Great neighborhood sports bar!
google avatar

Yelp
First the staff are very sweet! The food is excellent, the fries have some yummy seasoning going on. Sizable chicken strips, the chipotle ranch is absolutely scrumptious! Chen is a bit dry, closely resemble a chicken cutlet. FOOD IS STILL BOMB THO!
google avatar

Andy S.

Yelp
Really great price to quality ratio, food was well executed, service was both on point and polite. Their sweet potato fries were well seasoned with the perfect texture on the inside and outside. My partner and I enjoyed the pita wrap as well as the sauces that we ordered on the side. I will make a point to return when I am in the neighborhood, so that I can try the mahi mahi tacos which were out of stock on our first visit.
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
A cool neighborhood sports bar, the pizza/burgers and Hillbilly Nachos are really good. Free popcorn and good beer to choose from

Yelp
What's a Cubs game without a pregame?! We wanted to pregame before a Cubs game on a Tuesday and wanted somewhere more lowkey than the typical bars on Clark. So we happily chose Finley's and it was probably our smartest decision of the day. I mean I could actually hear my friends and have a conversation. I absolutely loved the staff here. Sometimes it can be intimidating to walk into a bar full of regulars, but someone greeted us as soon as we walked in. The owner even came over to talk to us! Friendly and welcoming! We ordered a couple of gin & tonics and Moscow mules (which were amazingly delicious and pleasantly strong). They also had a variety of beers to choose from which is impressive for a local bar! They have 50 cent wing specials so we decided to order a dozen to share. We also got the chicken nachos (which btw was unbelievable). I love good nachos and I've had some amazing nachos around the city. But when they brought out the nachos, I felt my eyes glisten and mouth water. I was in heaven! It was loaded, huge portion and full of good stuff. UGH I want more. We also got a pizza with sausage and hot peppers and so amazingg. The dough is all made fresh in their kitchen! This is definitely a good spot for drinks and bar eats! Ya gotta come here for your pre-game/post-game shenanigans. Skip the typical loud bars and sticky floors! Oh and they have huge TV screens in every corner. I'll definitely be back to watch a game and the nachos, can't forget about that!!

Joyce J.

Yelp
I was sitting at the bar for 15 minutes and the bartenders didn't even ask for my order but kept helping other white men. I guess bring an Asian woman minority, I don't deserve to get service.
google avatar

Mayo M.

Yelp
We love Finley Dunnes! If you long for the days of the old Chicago corner tap this is the spot. They've recently upgraded their TV's which makes it a great spot to watch a game. They usually have a pretty good beer special. The nachos are huge and taste great. The chicken wings come in a multitude of flavors and never disappoint - we order the Buffalo and Garlic Parmesan. Can't wait to return to Finley Dunnes!!!!

Yelp
I've been busted. Finley Dunne's server, Carrie, called me out for my 3-star Yelp review. If I bring my improv team there every single Thursday for orange whips and 25-cent wings, how can I deliver anything less than a superior rating? At Finley Dunne's you get... ... free popcorn. ... excellent service (as long as Carrie is there. She's the best server in the city.) ... cheap, usually good chicken wings on Thursdays. ... a usually low-key, chilled atmosphere. ... coat hooks (an underrated, but necessary convenience in winter). Now, I have been to Finley Dunne's on nights when it's packed to the rafters. In that case, you might as well stand on the corner of Lincoln & Cornelia and hope for food and beer to come by. The place can be woefully understaffed at times. (If you walk in and see a corporate party, leave immediately.) Oh, and they changed their Orange Whip recipe to a very sad concoction. I weep for this. I am there almost every week, and I wouldn't come back if it hadn't earned a 4-star place in my heart. We cool, Carrie?

Yelp
Very well satisfied with the service and food I will definitely be back once l travel back to Chicago !!!!! Great customer service and the food was delicious as well

Yelp
Amazing Wings!!! The wings are so good!! They are some of the best in the city!! Finley's is so fun during football season!! The fans are passionate here and the bar tenders get everyone fired up!! They have darts and golden tee too!!! Always go with a big group of buddies during football season!! We have a great time always!! Free popcorn too!!
google avatar

Yelp
Incredible sports bar - my friends and I love this place! The food is fantastic - crispy wings with original flavors and incredible tavern style pizza. Great service, tons of tvs, and I love the free popcorn and Golden tee!
google avatar

Yelp
Popped in on a Tuesday which happened to be wing night. Great neighborhood bar in Lakeview and the wings were great. With the special, wings were $0.50 each so I got a dozen (sauces are all the standard ones so you're covered here). They came out piping hot and chicken was perfectly cooked. Will definitely come back. Wings: 4.5/5
google avatar

Yelp
Great neighborhood sports bar. Steve behind the bar was great! I came in for a few pints to watch the hawks game on a Sunday afternoon and had a good time. The beer was cold, staff was friendly and the fellow patrons were just as welcoming. The laid back theme was great, but the attention to detail that Steve gave when pouring different beers in there respective glasses well noted. I'll be back next week for another hawks game, hope to see you there. Cheers
google avatar

Jay S.

Yelp
I was lured to this place as opposed to my regular Tuesday night stomping-ground by the promise of 20 cent buffalo wings. That's 5 cents less than my normal place! I was down with that. The wings were good. Not quite as saucy as I would have liked, and the "medium" is quite mild, but they were good. Some of the wings even looked like they came from giant, slightly deformed mutant chickens. if you like spicy wings, you might go straight for the "hot". the beer selection was decent, but reasonably small. The price on the beers was comparable to similar places, but a tad on the high side. The service was good and pretty attentive (which it should be considering that the place was pretty empty). The music is from a TouchTunes jukebox. they have a Golden Tee and a bowling game. The sports on the large TVs was college basketball. It seems they show a lot of sports there. They also have free popcorn, and there is apparently a party room in the back. It's smack in the middle between the Paulina and Addison Brown Line stops so it's pretty easy to get to.

Yelp
We have been here twice in the last couple of weeks and have had two great experiences. Nate the bartender/chef is really good. He not only has time to keep our beers coming, but he makes our food and then even has time to chat and talk about sports or current events. He gets 5 stars for multi-tasking. For Appetizers I highly recommend the Jalapeno Cheese Sticks...I know that this stuff is just deep fried but it is not your typically Jalapeno Popper or Cheese Stick...it is like if those two Apps hooked up and had a crazy night of deep fryer fun and then 9 months later the Jalapeno Cheese Sticks showed up on the menu. Don't take my word for it...you need to try them for yourself. The tap beer is nice and they have some good specials too. They will also let you have a little sample too before you committ to one of the new brews that they are pouring. A couple of times that has saved me from making a big pint mistake. We also had the Ryan Burger too which was highly recommended to us. It was really good...burger came on a french roll and was perfectly cooked with some nice grilled onions...red grilled onions which are nice and tasty too. I almost forgot that this place has TV's and TV's placed at every possible angle...there is not a bad spot in the bar...maybe I havent found it yet. I hate going to a bar that has like two TV's and you spend the whole game watching it from 40 feet away while looking through someone's head. You are not going to have that problem here. So high marks are having TV's...umm this is a bar and people love to drink and watch sports!!! My only negative is that this place does not open until 4pm during the week...Friday it does open early which is nice...so you can get your drink on for the weekend.

Gil M.

Yelp
Great wings! Great sports bar and friendly staff! Good for a game nights and if your looking for something outside of Wrigley. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Bridget M.

Yelp
Awesome neighborhood bar. Great spot to chill and day drink on a Sunday, also a great spot to get rowdy at during the hawks game on a Saturday night. Free popcorn. And the food is actually really good. Don't miss the pizza and the nachos!! I live down the street and this just might be my new favorite go-to neighborhood bar. Friendliest bartenders in the city.
google avatar

Bryan S.

Yelp
Typical good vibes sports bar with wings that will bring me back. Jumbo, delicious and beers flowing with a good game on for a perfect Friday beers night.
google avatar

john d.

Yelp
Home the craziest 2005 Whitesox ALCS party in the city. Get the Ryan Burger!
google avatar

Elisabeth C.

Yelp
Very poor selection of beers. I'll drink almost any IPA but could not find something I liked here when I came in this summer. Too bad because it's a great convenient location near the Paulina brown line.
google avatar

Samantha E.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar! Always my go to spot to watch sports- good food and drinks. Even better service. Walked in and asked for a game on SEC network. They didn't have the channel but ordered the game for me. Couldn't have asked for a better bartender/service.

James P.

Yelp
Beer was ok, cause it's beer. 1 pizza took an hour even with only 5 patrons in the whole building. Staff was nice but wouldn't come here if you expect a quick bite with your drinks, like most people do.

Sean G.

Yelp
Everyone was friendly, nice staff and bartender. I could deffinitly come back to enjoy the atmosphere
google avatar

Mason B.

Yelp
The food at this place is fantastic. Cheap beer and food and a solid dive bar atmosphere. This is my home bar whenever I'm in Chicago. Keep the spirit. (Get the wings you will not regret it)
google avatar

Michele S.

Yelp
I came here on a Thursday night with my volleyball team after a game. They couldn't stop talking about how good the wings are so I had to at least give them a try, I love me a good wing. The bar is dark inside with large tv's which would make this the perfect game night spot. We easily got a seat nearby. They had 50 cent wings and $2 high life beers so I was happy. They had 5 different sauces for the wings and they were delicious. I got 20 thinking they would be tiny but they were a good size wing. Our waitress, Lauren was very attentive and would give refills, napkin, wipes even before we could request them. We'll be back soon after our next game!
google avatar

Angel M.

Yelp
So yes there are plenty of local Pubs in the neighborhood. But none as unpretentious and laid back as Finley's! And im not saying this cause the owners is a good friend of mine (hes not paying me to say this, ha!)They have crazy good deals during the week. The bartenders... All of them are gracious and pretty generous with their pours. Yes there are regulars/locals here but you feel welcome even if you are not one. It seems they always have something goin on as far as entertainment. But most important those cooks make something as common as pizza taste delicious. Why? They make their own dough from scratch. Fresh ingredients! Their HOT pizza ovens have some miles on them so their is a flavor profile im sure! I just helped introduce Angels Empanadas (hence the name)... do not snooze on these! The beef empanadas are mostly my moms picadillo recipe(over 15 ingredients including spices!). And chicken tinga empanadas are a hit too! Made in small batches and sometimes they go fast! Oh and That greensauce...My little twist on peruvian Aji! Fla Swing by. If you see me There as a patron having a drink and recognize me maybe ill get you an extra empanada with your order. I got a guy ;)

Yelp
Finley Dunnes is about as good as it can get in regards to a friendly neighborhood sports bar. The staff are all very friendly. The owner, Joe, is one of the coolest guys. He puts a lot of heart into making Finley Dunnes one of the best places to go in the Lakeview area. If you're a Blackhawks fan like me, then this is probably the #1 place for a Blackhawks fan to go (especially during the playoffs!). The food is great. A lot of their meat is sourced from the butcher from across the street - which means it's as fresh as it can get and tastes GREAT! I recommend the Cali Burger. It's my favorite. I also love their wings. Their hot wings are HOT HOT HOT, but their "Fire" wings are mild, mild, mild. I think someone accidentally swapped the labels! Ha ha! Just about every person who works there or has worked there in my time visiting Finley Dunnes has always been kind, sweet, and funny. It's a shame I didn't live closer or else I'd visit a lot more often. Love you guys!

Kim L.

Yelp
Super Bowl Sunday was a great time at Finely Dunnes! Excellent service as usual. Wings, nachos, burgers never disappoint! After a number of visits, consistent all around. Cant wait to return!
google avatar

Jenn R.

Yelp
Came here on a Thursday evening for dinner. Quite, with an older scene. I enjoyed the burger and fries. The chicken tenders could have been a bit better - however, our server was super nice and chill. Very welcoming! Was a bit cold, however, makes sense as we sat near the garage door.
google avatar

Brittany M.

Yelp
Love this bar. Local hot spot, love the fiesta egg rolls. Owner, staff, everyone is amazing. Neighborhood bar that makes you feel like you are at home
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Good place, it's nice and cozy inside for sure! The TV's are set up great for watching The Blackhawk's and they're an official NHL "Hockey Bar"/ neon sign behind the bar to prove it. Great beer menu with many drafts that are "Locals" as well as a rotating tap with Short's on hand from Bellaire, MI! Very good APA for sure. We had GREAT service from the waitress that was working the center section on Friday night; a really great server which is a rarity these days for sure! My only complaint: You gotta turn down the music.. Ridiculously LOUD at 8:45 PM between the periods.. you can't even talk to the person next to you. I'll be back to try that burger! Get dat did
google avatar

Rob R.

Yelp
Finley Dunnes? This place is about as Irish as Shaquille O'Neal. The one thing that stood out most about this place is that they may have Chicago's most extensive collection of piss-grade beer. Bud, Bud light, Bud light lime, Bud light amber ale, Miller, Miller genuine draft, Miller highlife, Miller Lite, Miller 64... Impressive in quantity of low quality... but if you look past that you'd notice they also have a good number of good beers as well- Duvel, Rogue & Blue Moon on tap... As I heard, this is a pretty good place to watch hockey. Even on the Red Wings/Black Hawks' off-night, the Penguins/Hurricanes game was playing on the enormous central TV (maybe 36" x 24"?), though the volume was off. I sat between a rascal whose sense of humor didn't improve with alcohol saturation, and (fortunately) a good conversationalist with ties to northeast hockey. Such is the nature of the barstool lottery. There were just a handful of people watching, and the rascal made the mistake of insulting the Detroit Red Wings. "You don't know a thing about hockey," the bartender reminded him. He made another moronic comment; "you can't name one person on the roster," the bartender successfully challenged him. Just then I noticed the bartender was wearing a Red Wings hat. Wait, Red Wings? In Chicago? Well, the North Side does have a huge Michiganese population. This for sure is a safe haven for them, and for anyone who likes hockey. No haters allowed.

Yelp
Love Finley Dunnes. The only negative isn't really something they can control, unless they turn away business, and that is not a realistic thing to expect. This place blows when organized groups come in. For some reason, there have been a number of group events involving kids. Teens. Lilttle kids. This is a neighborhood bar, not a Chuck E. Cheese. I am not going to go out of my way to be rude to make a point, nor am I going to walk on eggs in a bar. At one point, I said "Dammit" about something, and some dad came over and told me to watch my mouth in front of his kids. I suggested he find a more appopriate locale for a child-inclusive outing. Now for the good: -Beer list is one of the better in Lakeview. Definitely plenty of options. -Like every other review has mentioned, free popcorn. -The wings are damn good. Good-sized, great sauces, especially the garlic parm. -The rest of the menu is good. Nothing to come here for especially, but everything I have had has been solid. -Plenty of TVs, and they are good about putting at least one on the game you want to see. -Clean bathrooms. -Back room available for fantasy football drafts. -Good drink specials. There are always a couple things that actually are a good deal and that you actually want. -Keith. -Right by the Paulina brown line stop.

Yelp
I originally gave Finley Dunne's 5 stars because I'm a UD alum, and it would feel wrong not to. Now, I'm pretty sure that the 5 stars would stand even if I hadn't gone to UD. That said, there are cheeeeeep beers and awesome wings (20 cents on Tuesdays!), which makes this place very ok in my book. Any bar that has wing specials makes me smile, and the fact that it's a Dayton alumni bar is just icing on the cake. The Ryan burger is nothing short of incredible. I could eat one of those every day of my life and not get tired of it. It's really really simple - beef, cheese, and garlic bread. No veggies, just awesome. The owner is a class act. He's also a huge college hockey fan, and makes sure to have at least one of the tv's turned to hockey during the season, even if March Madness is happening. Most excellent. Also, I'm a sucker for bars with popcorn machines. Good job, UD. You picked a fabulous alumni bar.
google avatar

Stacey A.

Yelp
Goddammit, I want EVERY bar to be Finley Dunne's. Tasty food (the Ryan burger is amazing). Cheap drink. Lots of options for beer AND liquor. And a really nice staff. Add to that, the fact that it's not solely lit by TV's, and it's never too loud that you can't have a conversation with someone. Maybe it's good that they're a little bit of a walk from my house - otherwise I'd be spending all my money there.
google avatar

Bella V.

Yelp
This is the perfect place for you if you're looking for a place that will never EVER cut you off and you want to pass out on the floor drunk as a skunk. I was in here a few nights ago with some friends, and let me tell you folks, this place is a dive! Within the 45 minutes that I was here, my friend saw a girl trying to pee in the drain on the bathroom floor, 5 minutes later to take a dive and bust her ass while just sitting. Then there was the girl who had no idea whatsoever where she was and kept trying to kiss random people. As far as I'm concerned, I'll never go back here, but hey, that's just me.
google avatar

Damian C.

Yelp
Aside from the friendly staff and decent prices, I was pleased that they had popcorn hot and fresh in the back. And it was free! That sure saved me the $20 I likely would have spent at Taco Bell later on that night (and the $10 cab ride just to get there). Our night was even more amazing when "Shine" by Collective Soul came up on the jukebox. "Duh duh, duh duh duh duhduhduh duh YEAH!"
